Open Post | Weekend, November 18th – 20th

Another One Bites the Dust | UH vs. Louisville: The Sooners still need a number of things to happen including a win in Morgantown this weekend to have a chance at a playoff berth. They got some help last night from their own previous nemesis, the Houston Cougars. Louisville came crashing down yesterday as Tom Herman’s boys put on an absolute clinic on how to combat speed on offense with controlled chaos, sound tackling and speed on defense.

For all those who have blasted the Big 12 this year, Louisville didn’t do the ACC any favors last night. If Clemson loses another one, I suspect that conference is out of the playoff.

Yesterday’s loss opened the door to more possible scenarios that would give the Sooners a shot at ending up in the playoffs should they win out. – (Super K)

Team Note | Playoff Talk: Shouldn’t come as any surprise but in talking to a source earlier this week, I’m told coach Stoops has talked to the players about the renewed possibility of a playoff berth. Source said, “he’s just telling them that a lot has to happen but a lot of things still can happen and that they need to take care of what they’ve got in front of them”. I asked the source if it’s added any noticeable difference in the team’s attitude, “there’s been a lot to play for but it never hurts when you can add more (motivation). They’re practicing well.”

Defensive Line Recruiting | JUCO Search: It sounds like the Sooners might be looking to go the JUCO route to fill a hole or two on the defensive line. The Sooners will return some talent next year with guys like Gallimore, Lampkin and Overton but adding some guys to the rotation for depth may prove to be important.

One player who tells me he has heard from the Sooners is Mississippi State DL commit, Lee Autry (Itawamba CC, MS). Autry tells me that he’s been hearing from coach Thibodeaux and while an offer hasn’t come yet Autry says he is hoping to make it to Norman for an official visit for the Bedlam game.

Also, should note that Autry says he will graduate this December so he will get a full spring under his belt wherever he ends up. – (Super K)

Kamren Curl: Yesterday, the Sooners extended an offer to an in-state prospect I really like, Kamren Curl (Muskogee, OK).

Curl’s father tells me that they will visit Norman for the Bedlam game. Curl took a visit to Nebraska last weekend and I’m told that coach Riley and the staff really impressed Kamren. But I suspect TCU will be the team to beat. I’ve been told repeatedly by folks around Curl since we first got in touch with his last year that he grew up a big fan of TCU. Gary Patterson offered Kamren earlier this fall and the family will take their second visit to TCU this weekend when the Frogs face Oklahoma State.

Having said that, the Sooners will get their chance to make the case next weekend and as we all know, when Oklahoma wants an in-state player, they typically have a great deal of success in doing so. – (Super K)

Noah Daniels: Another defensive back visitor expected for the Bedlam game is 2017 CB, Noah Daniels (League City, TX). Daniels is a big, blazing fast cornerback (sub 10.6 100). Daniels is currently committed to Baylor and recently picked up a TCU offer. Daniels tells me that Kerry Cooks has been in touch with him and invited him up for the Bedlam game. He also noted that the Sooners have not yet offered Daniels.

I’m told by a source they are still checking on a few things.

Marquise Brown: As most of you know by now, the Sooners will also host speedy JUCO WR, Marquise Brown (College of the Canyons) for the Bedlam game. Brown has been offered by Oklahoma and it’s pretty easy to see why. He fits the mold of the small explosive WRs that can eat cushion and separate at the end of the route that the Sooners have had success with lately.

Brown tells me that he is a January enrollee so he will have ample time to learn the playbook and build a rapport with his quarterback. Brown will get a chance to see the Sooners up close this weekend as he says he will take an official visit to Morgantown this weekend. He says he has already taken a visit to USC (he does hold a USC offer).

After the OU visit on December 3rd, Brown says he will likely take a final official visit on December 10th though he hasn’t decided on a destination for said visit just yet. He tells me he plans to announce a decision between December 15th and the 20th. – (Super K)
