– Team Note | Outside Linebackers: On Monday, I was told Kapri Doucet received most of the first team reps in place of Obo.
However, I checked with a source yesterday about whether Tuesday was any different in terms of Deberry and Jackson getting additional reps and I was told, “yes, they are all got (1st team) reps”.
It appears the staff is going to let these guys compete and based on practice determine who get’s the start later this week. – (Super K)
– Team Note | Defense: Earlier this week I spoke to a source about whether it was possible to anticipate the defensive meltdown that occurred Saturday. Source said, “defense was getting beat all last week. I’m not going to say it was expected or that it wasn’t a surprise but the defense wasn’t winning last week”.
I was told the defense was dominant yesterday. Apparently Steven Parker and had an INT and young Jordan Parker had a couple himself. I’m sure that’s not much of a consolation to a fan base who’s historical identity was built on defensive prowess. Ultimately the Sooners aren’t going to face the same kind of test this week that they faced last week…no matter how much people tell us Kansas is improved. – (Super K)
– Charles Walker: I know there were some reports yesterday that Charles Walker may play this weekend. However, shortly thereafter, Coach Stoops noted that Walker will not be available this weekend. The reports however weren’t completely unfounded. Walker did actually practice a little bit on Monday however, I was told that on Tuesday he did not. So the initial confusion may have come from the fact that Walker appeared to be making some progress on Monday. – (Super K)
– Ceedee Lamb: Sooners WR commit, Ceedee Lamb tells us that he will visit Norman this weekend for the game against Kansas. Also, I heard a rumor that Lamb may bring along another top prospect out of Houston but I haven’t been able to confirm it through the player just yet and since the player is committed elsewhere I’ll wait till we hear a confirmation from the player or his family before we say much else.
Either way, good for the Sooners to have Lamb back on campus. – (Super K)
– Chuck Filiaga: Star OT, Chuck Filiaga (Aledo, TX) will be in Norman for an official visit this weekend. It’s pretty clear based on what Filiaga told Brandon last week that the Sooners on somewhere in his top 3 or 4 and could be as high as two right now. Adding Filiaga to this current OL class would be, as JY would say, down right filthy. – (Super K)
– Tweetin’: Was watching some of WVU vs. Texas Tech last night and in case you missed it on my twitter feed, I wanted to share it here.
#WVU #Mountaineers defensive alignment on 3rd & 7 against 10 personnel. No space yielded inside or outside pre-snap. Savage… pic.twitter.com/D9CazTb89I

I wrote a brief discussion of this over on the Texas site, saying…
Press coverage is an absolute necessity. Whether you’re going to play press quarters or press man…to be a legitimate defense anymore, your team has to be able to play tight and take away the easy pre-snap looks for quarterbacks. This is especially true in the Big 12, Pac 12 and other passing leagues. Take a look at WVU’s 3rd and long alignment in a tweet I put out last night…
I need to go back and refresh my memory but I believe this actually ends up turning into outside pressure from the inside defensive backs and then either cover 1 or 0 on the back-end. You think a college quarterback likes looking at this? He has no pre-determined throw. He can’t completely determine whether the inside defensive backs are going to blitz or not because both would be shaded inside whether they’re coming or not. The receivers are uncomfortable because most receivers hate to fight for the release and they know they’re going to have to. But you’ve got to do this a lot to get good at it.
