Oklahoma Getting Involved with another Big Man from SEC Territory

Recent Oklahoma DL commit, Dwayne Orso, isn’t the only big man in SEC country that Oklahoma is interested in. In fact he’s not even the only big man Oklahoma is recruiting in Homewood, Alabama. Big offensive guard, Jordan Sims hails from the same high school as Orso.

Oklahoma actually offered Jordan many months ago but there didn’t seem to be much interest there. Recently that has changed. Word is that Oklahoma is actively recruiting Jordan now and, to the surprise of many, Jordan has been quite receptive. It doesn’t mean its a done deal by any stretch. He’s being recruited by a lot of SEC schools. But it’s certainly no stretch to say he is interested in Oklahoma. And with Dwayne in the fold that could certainly help.

Our OL expert JY absolutely loves him. JY called me and couldn’t stop going on and on about how incredible Jordan is. Said he’s got sledge hammer hands, bull ox strong, moves well, plays flat backed and is nasty, violent and abusive. To summarize he is a nightmare for D-linemen and LBs. For Big 12 D-linemen and LBs he is hell in motion. Also to quote JY, “only thing he needs is syrup cause the boy is a pancake machine…you get him and Pruitt and nobody stops our run game.” I mean the fella is 6’4 340 lbs! JY said without even doing a complete evaluation the kid isn’t any lower than a mid to high 4 star kid (4.5+).

He’s also a very intelligent kid. Does well in school and has the kind of attitude you need to play at Oklahoma. Comes from a fantastic family.

If it weren’t for the distance I’d say Oklahoma would have an excellent shot here. But regardless there has been progress made with Jordan and the fact there is interest is great because anyone will tell you that until recently Oklahoma wasn’t in the picture. And let me tell you, this young man would fit in perfectly at Oklahoma in terms of the family environment within the program, the incredible development on the O-line, the excellence and accountability that coaches instill in the kids and in terms of the renewed focus on the power run game.

We will keep following this.

P.S. JY also said Jordan gets his “Aunt Jemima Award” (again, a pancake reference). I’m sure J will be thrilled that I shared that 😛

Nasty attitude oline, like big Trent Williams, sounds exactly like what Sooners need.

  • Brian says:

Guessing Montgomery helped us get back in when he visited Orso?

  • Ne'erdowell says:

I’ve never heard someone call an offensive lineman abusive. I’ll allow it.

  • Nathan Brenneman says:

fantastic news thanks! Just to be in the same discussion is a change from recent past. It will change our culture soon(er) enough!

If OU can grab some kids out of that region it will make Oklahoma feel closer to the region in general and perhaps increase the sense of familiarity with HS coaches down there. In my experience HS coaches in that region have more influence on their kids than in places like Texas (excluding deep east texas) and Cali.

itsure would be nice to break some barriers down in SEC country, hopefully this staff can accomplish that

        • Super K says:

Yep. There is so much talent in that region that even with all the SEC schools there is room for Oklahoma to come and grab some talented kids that would go to the ACC or even to schools like USF. Oklahoma can develop talent as long as the athleticism is there. That’s what we do best.

  • Atlantasooner says:

Sims is an OG, right? With Dalton and Alvarez, and maybe Natrell Curtis after his positive visit, does OU have room for Sims with the dire need for HS OTs

    • Super K says:

Yeah OG and too good to pass up :). He a bad man. The biggest issue is going to be distance and then of course if Bama loses anymore interior linemen (this lost the USC kid). Because Bama likes Sims.

    • JY says:

Sims is so good, you have to make room for him.

  • Billy Jackson says:

This is why I believe Texas’ attempt to run an “SEC” style offense didn’t go as well as they hoped. Sure, they have the running backs, but really, who in Texas’ offensive line the past few years made you think “Uh oh, here comes “hell in motion”? Also, you have to have the right coaching to effectively run block, and it looks like Stoops has finally found the right man to help OU return to a dominant running team.

    • Super K says:

Interesting take Billy. Texas hasn’t put an OL in draft for a while it seems.

      • Billy Jackson says:

Kind of goes back to a point you made earlier about Texas and their lack of producing man-child offensive and defensive linemen.

Very interesting considering how big Texas is and the kind of football state it’s known to be.

  • Adrian says:

I would definitely like to see this happen. We could have a big finish in O-lineman recruitment. Hopefully Orso takes an unofficial with him sometime soon and gets in his ear

  • AlexOU says:

Great to see, hoping for the best of course. On a side note, I just added this website at beginning of my favorites bar…..so there’s that 😉
