    1/2 way there 😉

Very fitting that you cover this story, K. I wonder what will happen next??? Who’s in line for the job? I think we’ve all heard the theories about this, but I can’t wait to see how it ends. Maybe those haters from earlier will have to shut their traps….

Right after saban accepts the huge extension; man, who knows where texas goes now…

  • Jordan Esco says:

If not Saban, is there any hire that would worry you as an OU fan?

    • Billy Jackson says:

Jim Harbaugh, and/or Pete Carroll. Chip Kelly would be no picnic either.

As far as current active coaches go, I’m not seeing any that would have me shaking in my boots. There’s probably an up and comer that would take the CFB world by storm, but Texas would find that beneath them and will try and pluck an active coach from a power 5 conference.

I’ve always thought that Charlie Strong would be a home run hire for Texas and the hire I don’t want the most as an OU fan. Tony Dungy or Herm Edwards would be guys who would really be impressive.

      • Rashad See says:

I agree that Charlie strong, art briles and David shaw would be very concerning hires for OU. My biggest questions for anyone considered for this job is why would you take this job knowing you were not the coach they wanted for this job and would be compared to a 3 time championship winning head coach that never coached there?

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Nobody that I’d consider all that realistic.

I don’t think any of the really good NFL guys would be interested. Who is scary in the college game? Urban Meyer would probably be scary, but can’t see him leaving OSU. Shaw would probably make them tough, and consistent, but I don’t know if he scares me, and I don’t see him leaving Stanford. What other college head coaches are scary good right now? I just can’t think of many. Maybe a guy like Strong would do well there, but his hire certainly wouldn’t scare me.

Art briles, David shaw and Charlie strong

Easy, Gus Malzahn. The jury is still out, but he may be true offensive genius.

      Fisher and Briles

  • SoonerGoneEast says:

Easy answer, Jim Harbaugh. And FTR, I would much rather Texas hire Saban than Harbaugh.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Why are names like Harbaugh, Carroll, and Kelly being mentioned? I would think there would be NO chance on Kelly. He just left a great program, and is having success. So is Harbaugh. So is Carroll. And those guys wouldn’t be available until the middle of January at the earliest, most likely. Maybe later than that.

It’ll be a college guy. Gundy wouldn’t shock me. They may try to snag Sumlin, but I don’t see him leaving. Maybe somebody like the Vandy coach. Franklin, is it? I don’t see a head NFL coach, especially ones having success, or that just moved there, having any interest at all.

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

As much disdain as I have for that arrogant bunch down south, there’s no denying they are the most attractive program in the country. It’s not just that they have more built in advantages than anyone in the country (and it’s not even close), but they can gather up some pretty crazy money to lure in their guy and money speaks louder than anything.

    • Ed Cotter says:

Gary Patterson? Guy has done a lot with less, imagine what he could do with the athletes Texas pulls in. Just sayin’.

    • pitbull17 says:

I could see them making a run at JImbo Fisher

  • Cary Newman says:

I view it this way, we’re OU and we don’t back down from anyone. The bigger the name, the better, bring it on.

I’m far more concerned with remaining in this conference and it’s future than who’s hired at Texas.

  • OUFan123 says:

I hear Lane Kiffin is looking for a new gig….

  • JD says:

I hope they hire Saban just so I can tell guys on other boards to eat this crow I’ve marinated with _____. There’s a lot of penis envy out there towards this site and I don’t understand why..you guys do an awesome job!! They must be the media types meddling among the message boards

I gotta say that I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia and sadness with the news of Mack Brown’s “resignation.” The Mack Brown/ Bob Stoops years have arguably been the glory years of the Red River Rivalry, and in particular the games from the early 2000’s to 2008 were heart-stoppingly epic. Both teams were annually in the top 5, loaded with NFL talent, Bradford, McCoy, Adrian Peterson, Vince Young, Gerald McCoy, Jamaal Charles, etc. We had moments I’ll never forget: Roy Williams’s flying through the air over the line at Chris SImms , Adrian Peterson single handedly dominating Texas and winning the game at a rainy Cotton Bowl as a Freshman, Q recovering the fumble and running it in to seal the game… Mack always lost as a gentleman, he is a classy man, who has been easy to like, in spite of hating Texas with the fire of a thousand suns. Here’s hoping Texas gets a great coach who will bring them back to the top five where we can have another glorious era of OU/Texas games, and we will rip their heart out and squash their National Championship aspirations on a yearly basis. Adios Mack, que te vaya bien. Boomer Sooner!

  • CoachStauder says:

I don’t know who it will be, but I do know a lot of coaches won’t want to put up with the politics that go along with the job. A few coaches have already gotten extensions thanks to Texas and I can only imagine how many more will get more money thanks to this opening. Shaw, Mora Jr., Sumlin (although bc of Houston/USC) Malzahn, Saban, Fisher, etc… already have extensions on the table. Who’s next? I bet Todd Graham gets a few more dollar bills in his pocket very soon…

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

What if we offer texass Huepel? Him and Applewhite could become best buds and figure out offenses together.

  • red clay says:

It will be interesting to see who they hire, no doubt he will be blue ribbon top notch. The new UT AD has a track record of major success. We’ll need to step up everything to remain ahead.
    Yes, I do mean “remain.”

But this improved competition could help us steel up for the coming playoff gauntlet to reach Title No. 8. It seems to me that OU won some national titles while UT still had Darrell Royal at the helm and UT had maybe an even bigger “natural advantage” than now . . . bring it on . . .

  • Adrian says:

Sonny Dykes, Mike GUNDY, Mike Shanahan (if fired)
I would really like you guys to talk about Josh Heupel leaving to Arkansas tech(I think that’s the name) if he leaves to be a head coach, would we promote Jay norvell and hire a QB coach? Or hire a new OC to work with Norvell or maybe Cale Gundy and Jay work as OC’s and we hire a young QB guru

  • DCinAZ says:

We should be on the phone with every 2014 recruit they’ve got.
