Champion Standard Podcast | Trench Warfare – Temple Rundown, Auburn Clash
Posted on: September 17, 2025
Trench Warfare is back in the lab. Rob sits down with JY and Alex to break down Oklahoma–Temple in the only way that matters: in the trenches. We rewind the tape to grade OU’s OL/DL performance—pad level, double-teams, combo timing, and pass-protection IDs—then stack it against our Trench Warfare Index (TWI) to see what the numbers say versus what the film shows. On defense, we spotlight how Venables mixed simulated/creeper pressures with base rules to choke runs on standard downs, where the edges won (and where contain needs to tighten), and which interior stunts created the cleanest wins. On offense, we talk run fits, counter/duo vs. light boxes, and how the pocket held up when Temple tried to heat it.
Then we pivot to Auburn: fronts, personnel, and stress points. What do OU’s guards have to own against odd/“mint” looks? How do we handle simulated pressures off the boundary? Which rush lanes and twist games can OU exploit, and where can we create explosives without sacrificing protection? JY brings the clinic tape, Alex brings the data cuts, and Rob stitches it together into a clear plan of attack.
