Caleb Kelly | Butkus Award Preseason Watch List

– The Butkus Award is given annually to the top linebackers at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of football. Oklahoma has a rich tradition in regards to the Butkus Award as Brian Bosworth was the initial recipient of the award back in 1985 when it began. Bosworth is also the only two time winner and overall the Sooners have taken home the award 4 times as Rocky Calmus (2001) and Teddy Lehman (2003) joined Bosworth in receiving the prestigious award.

This year, Caleb Kelly has been placed on the preseason watch list for the Butkus Award.

Kelly came to Norman as an outside linebacker. After showing flashes of his athletic potential over the past two season, could a change of position help elevate his game towards the lofty expectations that the fans, staff, and he placed on himself back when he committed to the Sooners? That will be something we all will be watching for as the season kicks off!
