Boom News! | Sooners Land OT Transfer Wanya Morris

Bill Bedenbaugh and the Sooners have landed a commitment from former Tennessee offensive tackle Wanya Morris (6’5″ 320) out of Loganville, GA.

Morris is a former five-star recruit and was one of the nation’s top freshman offensive linemen in 2019. As a freshman at Tennessee, he appeared in all 13 games and started 12 of them.

Over his two seasons on Rocky Top, he played in 22 games which included 19 starts.

As a freshman, he was named as an SEC All-Freshman and was a True Freshman All-American per 247.

Since January 3rd when Super K first mentioned that he may have some good news for you, our sources have not wavered in telling us that Wanya would end up in Norman.

‘Despite the Sooners great ending off the field, I know some of you have been a little disappointed in some of the early departures and recent recruiting misses (although you can’t say we didn’t warn you on most of them).

But you might have some good news coming your way.

There is a very talented P5 offensive tackle who I’ve been told is a) likely to enter the transfer portal and b) likely to end up at Oklahoma, should he leave.

Since he has yet to enter the portal, I’ll hold the name for now. But once he hits the portal we will discuss more.’

While there was some drama from other places, that turned out to be much ado about nothing as the re-recruitment of Morris played out exactly as we were told it would. On January 14th Super K wrote:

‘***In our previous post, many of you asked for additional comment on Wanya Morris.

***My source still maintains that OU is the favorite.

***As far as Texas A&M goes, Wanya is in the state of Texas working with a trainer. He is expected to head up to Norman, this weekend. However, before that, he plans on stopping in College Station to visit his friend and former high school teammate, Kenyon Jackson who plays WR for the Aggies.

***But it’s my understanding that while TAMU may be recruiting Wanya, this trip is just a trip to see his friend.

***Again, my source is very close to Wanya and source hasn’t wavered in saying that Wanya is headed to OU. That’s all we can go off of.

***If the source changes their tune, I’ll let you know. But so far, again, source continues to repeat the same thing.’

Morris is a guy who comes to Norman with a ton of experience playing offensive line against some high level competition for the past two seasons in the SEC.

Wanya still has 3 years of eligibility left and he came to OU to work under Bill Bedenbaugh. K’s source told him early on that Bedenbaugh believes he can turn Morris into a first round draft choice.

Morris will join an offensive line room which returns three starters in Marquis Hayes, Tyrese Robinson and Eric Swenson. He will immediately compete for one of the starting tackle spots and I would not be shocked to see he and Anton Harrison as your starting tackles next year.

The Sooners also have Aaryn Parks, Chris Murray, Ian McIver, Nate Anderson, Noah Nelson, Brey Walker, Andrew Raym, Marcus Alexander, Stacey Wilkins, and Darrell Simpson to work with in the offensive line room next year in addition to the incoming freshmen Savion Byrd, and Cullen Montgomery.

Really nice addition and well executed use of the Portal by Bedenbaugh and the Sooners!
