The Sooners pick up their first commit of the weekend as ’27 RB Jakoby Dixon has announced his pledge to Deleand McCullough and the University of Oklahoma!

This should be no shock to anyone in the community.

The commitment of Jakoby Dixon gives Oklahoma another quality piece in what is shaping up to be one of the nation’s best 2027 classes. While he may not carry the same recruiting ranking as some of the headliners already committed to the Sooners, Dixon is the type of running back who fits exactly what Deland McCullough wants in his room: physical, productive, and capable of handling a heavy workload.

At roughly 5-foot-10 and 200-plus pounds, Dixon is built low to the ground with excellent contact balance. He’s not a track-star back who wins solely with long speed. Instead, his game is centered around vision, patience, and the ability to run through arm tackles. Over his first two varsity seasons in Texas, he piled up more than 3,400 rushing yards and 53 touchdowns, establishing himself as one of the more productive backs in the state.

What stands out most on film is how complete he is as a runner. Dixon consistently gets north and south, finishes runs falling forward, and shows the toughness to wear down defenses over four quarters. Those traits translate well to SEC football, where backs have to create yards after contact and survive a physical schedule.

For Oklahoma, this commitment is about more than just adding another talented player. The Sooners have made it clear they want to take two running backs in the 2027 class. They already hold a commitment from four-star running back Keldrid Ben, one of the higher-rated backs in the country, and adding Dixon gives OU a complementary piece with a different style.

Ben brings explosive-play ability and national recruiting buzz, while Dixon provides a physical, dependable presence who has proven he can handle volume carries. Having both in the same class gives Oklahoma balance and helps protect against the inevitable attrition that occurs at the running back position. Running back is a room where depth matters, and the Sooners have been intentional about building numbers after seeing how quickly injuries and transfers can impact a roster.

His addition also signals that Oklahoma is continuing to recruit Texas at a high level. Pulling a productive Texas running back away from that level of competition is another sign of the recruiting momentum Brent Venables and his staff have built.

In the end, Dixon may not be the flashiest commitment in the class, but he’s the kind of player championship programs stack. Pairing him with Keldrid Ben gives Oklahoma its two-back foundation for 2027 and provides McCullough with a versatile tandem that should fit nicely into the Sooners’ future offensive plans.
