Posted on: January 10, 2026
The Sooners pick up another big-time commitment in the 2027 class as nationally coveted linebacker Taven Epps has announced his intention to commit to the University of Oklahoma.
Epps is regarded as one of the top defensive prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, bringing an ideal combination of size, athleticism, and versatility to the linebacker position. A standout at Tustin High School in California, Epps (6’4 220) has a long frame and plenty of room to continue developing physically. He began his high school career in the secondary, and that is evident in his ability to move in space, read plays, and contribute in coverage.
Now established as a full-fledged linebacker, Epps impacts the game in multiple ways. He has the range to play sideline to sideline, the physicality to handle run support, and the athletic tools to be used as a blitzer or hybrid edge defender. Those traits have earned him consensus four-star status, national Top 100 recognition, and Navy All-American honors, placing him among the elite defenders in the 2027 cycle.
Epps was previously committed to Texas before reopening his recruitment and ultimately committing to Oklahoma. His decision gives the Sooners a high-upside defensive piece who fits well in a modern, versatile defensive system. With continued growth and development, Epps projects as a player capable of becoming an impact contributor at the collegiate level.
