Boom News! | ’26 RB Jonathan Hatton Jr Commits to Oklahoma!

The Sooners and ’26 running back Jonathan Hatton Jr (6.5 205) out of Cibolo, Texas, have come full circle as Hatton has flipped his commitment from Texas A&M and has re-committed to the University of Oklahoma!

Hatton originally committed to the Sooners back in October 2023 before opening things up in December of 2024 and eventually committing to A&M in March of 2025.

He stands out as one of the most intriguing young running back prospects thanks to a blend of size, athleticism, and versatility that translates well to the college level. He brings a strong physical presence to the backfield, giving him the power to run through contact while still showcasing the speed needed to hit explosive plays.

Hatton’s athletic background, particularly his success as a track sprinter, shows up on the field. He accelerates quickly, reaches top speed efficiently, and has the burst to separate from defenders at the second level. That speed, paired with his frame, makes him a true every-down candidate rather than a situational runner. His HS production backs it up as well, proving he can carry a heavy workload and deliver consistently.

Beyond pure running ability, Hatton brings versatility. In modern offenses that demand multi-skill running backs, that trait will only elevate his value. His competitiveness and maturity also stand out; he approaches his development deliberately and shows a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed at the next level.

Of course, like any prospect, there are areas he will need to refine. Translating his speed against college-level defenders will require continued work on vision, footwork, and the ability to accelerate through contact. Durability will also be important given his physical running style and the workload he’s accustomed to. With continued development in the finer points of the position, especially pass protection and receiving consistency, Hatton has the tools to grow into a feature back at the collegiate level.

Overall, Hatton is a high-upside prospect with the size, athleticism, and mentality to become an impact college running back. His blend of power and speed gives him a strong foundation, and his commitment to rounding out his game suggests his best football may still be ahead.
