Boom News! | ’26 OL Deacon Schmitt Commits to Oklahoma!

The Sooners get a big win on the recruiting trail as they add priority ‘26 OL Deacon Schmitt (6’5 320) out of Windsor, Colorado, to the class!!

Oklahoma offered Schmitt back on June 26th, 2024, and he chose the Sooners over a huge list of offers, which included offers from Alabama, Tennessee, USC, Georgia, Florida, and Ohio State, among them.

At 320 pounds, Schmitt is a powerful lineman who excels in the run game, creating significant push off the line of scrimmage. His team at Windsor averaged 211 rushing yards and four touchdowns per game in his junior season, largely due to his ability to open running lanes.

Despite his size, Schmitt moves well in space, with the ability to pull across formations and engage defenders at the second level. His agility and footwork make him effective in both run and pass protection.

While he plays tackle in high school, his frame and skill set suggest he could transition to guard or center at the next level, offering flexibility to college programs. I currently expect him to start his career in Norman as a tackle and work from there.

Schmitt demonstrates good footwork and hand placement, allowing him to mirror pass rushers effectively. His ability to finish blocks with physicality has been noted as a key strength.

To me, Schmitt projects as a potential early contributor at the collegiate level, with the ability to develop into a multi-year starter.
