The Sooners add a big-time talent to the 2026 class as T-Ron Richardson, out of Hopewell, Virginia, has announced his commitment to Todd Bates and the Oklahoma Sooners!

Richardson, 6’3 295, possesses the ideal size and frame for a defensive tackle in the SEC. His combination of height, weight, and athleticism allows him to dominate offensive linemen and disrupt plays in the backfield.

During his junior season at Hopewell High School, Richardson recorded 52 tackles, including 19 tackles for loss and one sack in 10 games. He has demonstrated the ability to penetrate the backfield and stop the run effectively. His sophomore season also showed promise with 24 tackles and 2 sacks, indicating consistent growth and impact.

Richardson is a multi-sport athlete who also excels in track and field, notably placing third in the shot put at Virginia’s Class 3A state meet.. His athletic versatility, including a 24.01 (!!) second mark in the 110-meter hurdles, translates to agility and explosiveness on the football field, which are exceptional traits for a defensive tackle.

Richardson has pulled in offers from top programs like Penn State, Georgia, and Auburn, with some schools even preferring him as an offensive lineman. This versatility highlights his raw athletic talent and adaptability, which can be refined at the college level to make him a dominant defensive tackle.

He is known for his ability to prevent rushing lanes and pressure quarterbacks, Richardson’s size and strength make him a formidable presence. His performance at Hopewell shows he can anchor a defensive line, a skill that will translate well to college football, particularly in a big boy conference like the SEC.

T-Ron officially visited Norman back in early June, and the Sooners held off the long-time in-state favorite Virginia Tech, along with Penn State and South Carolina, for his commitment. He joins Brian Harris and Tank Carrington in the Sooners IDL class.
