Boom News! | ’25 DB Maliek Hawkins Commits to Oklahoma!

The Sooners add the first member of the ’25 secondary class to the fold as cornerback Maliek Hawkins (6’1 180) out of McKinney, Texas (Frisco Emerson) has announced his verbal commitment to Oklahoma!

Hawkins chose the Sooners over five other offers which included Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Indiana, and Texas State.

Maliek is a tremendous athlete with a high ceiling and a tremendous work ethic.

Hawkins is the younger brother of Sooner freshman quarterback, Michael Hawkins and the son of former OU player Michael Hawkins Sr.

For the Sooners, this commitment is the first in the secondary and it starts the clock ticking on a few other recruits as the spots will begin to dwindle as OU is in very good shape with three other corners in Cobey Sellers, Courtland Guillory, and Trystan Haynes. It will be interesting to watch how the corner spots play out.

Overall, Hawkins is the 12th verbal commitment for Oklahoma in the ’25 class and he could have company joining him later today as ’25 DL Trenton Wilson will announce his commitment to the school of his choosing. We have him trending to OU.
