The Sooners add another piece to the 24K class as former Northwestern commit, Brendan Zurbrugg (6’4 185) out of Alliance, Ohio has flipped his verbal commitment to Oklahoma!
The Sooners have been in the market for a second QB in the class to join Michael Hawkins and it looks like Jeff Lebby got his man in Zurbrugg.
Zurbrugg had been committed to Northwestern since June 26th which was preceded by a commitment to Syracuse a week earlier.
As you know, Northwestern is in the process of going through a coaching change and Zurbrugg was more than open to the Oklahoma overtures which ramped up in the immediate aftermath of Northwestern firing former coach Pat Fitzgerald.
The Sooners wasted little time and were very aggressive in their pursuit of Zurbrugg as they were able to get him on campus last weekend after extending his offer on July 18th.
Zurbrugg has good size, he’s got an accurate arm and adequate wheels. He shows the ability to throw very well on the run and will provide some much-needed competition in the OU QB room next year as the Sooners could be down to Jackson Arnold, Michael Hawkins, and him. Dillon Gabriel is likely to move on as is Davis Beville and perhaps the lone holdover could be General Booty if he sticks around.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to you all as we reported HERE that sources indicated he gave OU the news following his visit to Norman last weekend.
Impressive recruitment by Jeff Lebby who was very aggressive in securing the commitment.
