The Sooners picked up a big-time win on the recruiting trail as ’24 defensive lineman Jayden Jackson (6’2 300) out of Bradenton, FL (IMG Academy) has announced his pledge to Oklahoma!
Jackson is teammates with another priority OU DL target ay IMG in David Stone and that should not be lost on you all.
The Sooners beat out a crowded list of contenders to win Jackson’s pledge. He had a top five of OU, Texas, Florida, Ohio State, and Miami. Do not be fooled by what social media will tell you, they were all after the talented defensive lineman and he took official visits to each of them in the month of June.
This is a really nice win for Todd Bates on the recruiting trail and it sets him up for a very impressive class if he can close on a couple of his remaining targets.
Jackson was in Norman on June 20th for his official and to be completely upfront, we didn’t think much of the visit as our intel at the time had Texas being in a better position along with Ohio State and Miami. However, we did note that OU made a very big impression on Jackson and his family during the visit, we just didn’t realize how large of an impression it truly was.
He projects as a true nose guard in the Sooners defense and he is a guy that brings a nice skillset to the table. Jackson plays with great leverage (low man wins) and moves very well laterally for a young guy at his size. He is very powerful and if developed correctly, he should be a multi year starter who has all-conference potential.
Big win for Bates and really nice add for the Sooners!
