Boom News! | ’24 DL David Stone Commits to Oklahoma!

The mother of all BOOMS was just detonated in Norman, Oklahoma as priority defensive line target and longtime Sooner lean David Stone announced his verbal commitment to the University of Oklahoma!
Stone, 6’4 270, currently plays his high school ball at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida but he is a native of the Sooner state and has openly been a fan of the Sooner football program for years. Stone has made dozens of visits over the course of his recruitment and as it turns out, this recruitment went exactly as one would suspect without much factual drama.
The Sooners offered Stone more than two years ago back in June of 2021 and since that time, they have been the leaders in his recruitment. Two different staffs in Norman prioritized Stone and Todd Bates and Brent Venables were able to get Oklahoma across the finish line to secure his verbal commitment.
Stone is one of the top ranked players in the country and he had a top six of OU, Michigan State, Miami, Oregon, Alabama and Texas A&M and he holds offers from just about every major program from around the country.
Massive win for the Sooners as Stone was absolutely a ‘must have’ in the ‘23 class and his addition gives the Sooners a huge boost on the recruiting trail as you all know because elite players want to play with other elite players and you can expect Stone to be able to attract some additional guys to check out Norman.
Stone joins IMG Jayden Jackson and JUCO Danny Saili in the defensive line class for Todd Bates and you can bet he has been helping recruit Nigel Smith behind the scenes.
The addition of Stone gives Bates and company a versatile big body on the interior of the line who will get to Norman in January and should begin immediately pushing for time in the rotation. Stone has tremendous length with close to a seven foot wingspan and he is already polished as a pass rusher while also displaying the ability to play the run very effectively as he shows off very good lateral movement as well.
Huge pickup for Oklahoma as Stone will be a difference maker on and off the field for the Sooners!
