The 24K Class picked up member number one as 2024 defensive back Jeremiah Newcombe has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Oklahoma!
Newcombe was offered by Jay Valai and the Sooners back on November 1st, 2022 and things culminated this week as he was able to get out to Norman for a visit. As Super K noted back on March 16th OU was in a great position heading into the visit and the only real mystery was when Newcombe would make an announcement. Mystery solved.
The 5’11 175 product of Queen Creek, Arizona (Casteel) holds close to two dozen offers from programs around the country. Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska, Washington, Michigan, Utah, Stanford and both the Arizona Schools were among those in pursuit of the speedy Newcombe.
Jeremiah’s father, Bobby, was a quarterback for Nebraska and was selected in the 6th round of the 2001 NFL draft. His brother, Isaiah, is currently playing football at UCLA so the pedigree is there.
The Sooners are getting a DB with good length and very good speed. He’s quick to the ball in close spaces and displays top end ball skills. Newcombe is a willing tackler and does not shy away from contact and he has the frame to add plenty of good weight once he gets into a collegiate S&C program. Reminds me a bit of Jasiah Wagoner from OU’s 2022 class.
Really nice start for OU in the ’24 class!
