Oklahoma gets back on the board on the recruiting trail with the commitment of 2022 Carthage LB Kip Lewis.
Lewis was in Norman last weekend for the Sooners’ spring game and left very impressed. So much so, that he told me he currently has no plans to visit other schools for the moment.
“I think Coach (Brian) Odom played a very big role,” Lewis said about why he felt comfortable pulling the trigger to OU. “I like him a lot and we both kind of like similar stuff so I think we will be fine. I can’t wait to grow as a player with him.”
The family vibe Lewis felt at the spring game also played a factor into why the Sooners ultimately ended up being the pick. I mentioned in the post-visit report, but Lewis lightened up when talking about Sooner fans coming up to him at the game, asking for pictures, wishing him good luck and ultimately just talking with him. “It was a very warm feeling.”
“(Coach Odom) said he was very excited,” Lewis said of when he alerted the staff of his intentions to commit. “From now on, just looking forward to what me and him can do together.”
Lewis told K that OU had a pretty sizable lead compared to the others in the race. In that conversation with K, he mentioned that LSU and Texas A&M were probably the only two other schools that truly had a shot at landing him.
Lewis joins the 2022 OU class as the 8th commit in the class as the Sooners jump Texas and Texas A&M into the top five of the composite class rankings.
