Boom News! | ’22 DB Gentry Williams Commits to Oklahoma!

The Sooners added another huge piece to the ‘ChampU22’ class today as in-state defensive back Gentry Williams announced his verbal pledge to Oklahoma!

Williams chose OU out of a final four which consisted of USC, Florida, Missouri, and of course, Oklahoma.

He becomes the 16th verbal commit for the class. The Sooners defensive back class currently includes Williams, Jayden Rowe, Xavion Brice, and Robert Spears Jennings.

While Williams has been pegged to the Sooners for a long time, years even, it was not as simple as that for the Oklahoma staff which did a really nice job of closing on Gentry.

USC and Donte Williams were out front for a while with Gentry as the personable USC interim head coach had built a strong bond with Gentry. Florida made a nice run at him as well and Missouri’s efforts were rewarded with a hat on the table at the end of the day.

The home state Sooners won out in the end and Gentrys commitment to improving the lives of those around him and within his community played no small role.

Williams is a guy who has many of the measurables that OU covets for their defensive backs. He has good height and great length to go along with impressive speed. He is a naturally gifted athlete who is very fluid in all he does. Gentry missed pretty much his entire junior season in high school with a torn ACL but he has returned to play and is rounding into form.

Williams is a young guy who is very charismatic and holds a lot of clout both on and off the field in the State. His inclusion to the class could have an impact for the Sooners this cycle as well as for years to come.

Huge addition to the class and a really nice job by the staff here on closing on the top in-state target.
