Boom News! | ’22 Athlete Jaren Kanak Commits to Oklahoma!

The Sooners picked up a massive commit today as 2022 athlete Jaren Kanak (6’2 210) out of Hays, KS, flipped his pledge from Clemson to Oklahoma.

Yes, this was the surprise K first mentioned HERE back on the 11th:

‘***Also, a nice surprise coming fairly soon…’

Later, K gave you another clue when he wrote this HERE.

‘As we’ve already noted, Coach Venables gave coach Swinney his word that he wouldn’t go after the Clemson 2022 recruits.

It is our understanding that he has stuck to that.

However, I want to offer this. There is a situation in which coach Venables could accept a Clemson committed player. That would be a case where for certain reasons, coach Swinney has given coach Venables his blessing regarding said recruit.’

Source tells us that Kanak opened up to Dabo and expressed his desire coming out of high school was to play for Coach Venables, not necessarily to play for Clemson. Coach Venables was not engaging with him in recruiting once he left Clemson for the head coaching position in Norman. It was only after Dabo reached out to Venables, advised him of the situation, and gave his blessing, that the Sooners head coach opened up communication with Kanak.

Back in June we noted that Kanak was taking an unofficial visit to Norman so he is somewhat familiar with the Sooners.

Now, lets talk about what Kanak brings to the field in Norman:

Speed.

Lots of it.

10.37 100 speed…in the frame of a linebacker.

Kanak will likely play outside linebacker for Venables and he has the frame to add the necessary 20-25 pounds while keeping his speed up.

He was very good on offense in high school and his ball skills and blocking ability (will serve as getting off blocks defensively) will be a tremendous asset in his toolbox.

Kanak is a massive addition to the class and he joins a loaded linebacker room with Kobie McKinzie and Kip Lewis.

You look at that linebacker room and there are only two words that come to mind….Ted. Roof.

In all seriousness, the way this went down speaks volumes about the respect Venables has for Dabo and his own program in Norman.
