Sooner Nation woke up to a nice surprise as 2022 linebacker Kobie McKinzie has announced he has verbally committed to Brian Odom and the Sooners.
2022 is a long ways off but this is a massive get for Oklahoma.
Super K and I were watching his sophomore film just last week and it is pretty jaw dropping:
The 6’3″ 227 sophomore was committed to Texas Tech at one point but when OU offered, it felt like a matter of time until he would end up pledging to the Sooners.
McKinzie currently holds early offers from Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech among others, but you can expect that list to grow exponentially and the Sooners will certainly have to hold off some of the elite programs over the course of the next two years.
McKinzie gave us all a hint that this was coming via social media over the past few weeks. First, he showed his affinity for Sooners linebacker Coach Brian Odom when he retweeted a video clip on Twitter of Kenneth Murray getting emotional following the Peach Bowl as he spoke about Odom and what he meant to him.
The on January 9th, he tweeted out:
His commitment to Oklahoma certainly fits the narrative of ‘Big News’ for both the young linebacker as well as the Sooners!
Sooner fans should be very encouraged by this pickup even though it is still two cycles out as this indicates that the new staff can recruit at an elite level on the defensive side of the ball.
Enjoy his film and the good news to start your day!
