Boom News! | 2021 QB Caleb Williams Commits to Oklahoma!

The Sooners picked up a huge commitment today as quarterback Caleb Williams (6’2″ 209) out of Washington DC (Gonzaga, HS) announced his pledge to Lincoln Riley and the University of Oklahoma.

If you have been following along, Williams commitment should not come as a surprise to you as both K and I were down in Washington earlier this month following his visit to Norman and upon our return, K dropped this note:

“As you all know, I was in the DMV area couple of weeks ago. I took a quick trip over to Europe (personal) and then returned to the DMV area this week to see more players.

I had seen Caleb Williams a couple of weeks ago – during my initial time there.

I’m now back in TX but on my return time in DC, I heard some encouraging news regarding Williams that was floating around.

I’ll just say that I feel very good about this one for the Sooners. I know some of you were hoping for some Lincoln Riley eyes last weekend but the lack of the emoji doesn’t mean much in this case. We respect that Williams is going through his own process. So, I’ll leave it at that.”

Williams, considered by some to be the top quarterback in the class, should bring some momentum to the Sooners 2021 class as he has ties to recruits across the nation and particularly on the east coast.

However, his recruiting prowess is not necessarily confined to the east coast as he is a national figure, quite like Spencer Rattler was and when K dropped this note on the ‘Caleb Williams Effect”…

“So I was recently speaking with a recruit who is tied in with a number of other recruits. He’s a higher profile guy and is well-liked in the recruiting world.

He was telling me how a big part of recruiting is where the best players end up.

“Guys can have a 5-star rank and all but we know who’s really a dog. We see it. We talk about it. And the best players want to play with the best players”.

So, I changed the subject to Caleb Williams. He’s a five star but I asked said recruit if Caleb Williams is respected as a baller amongst the players.

He looked at me like the question was crazy, “Of course. That man’s a dog”.

We talked about the possibility of Caleb ending up at OU (he basically looked at me like, dude you know he’s going to OU). He added…

“If Caleb Williams commits to OU, just watch”.

What, I asked?

“Just watch”, he said grinning.

Bottom line is, if the Sooners do land Caleb Williams, expect them to get some serious help on the recruiting trail for this 2021 class.

And if you want to know the difference the athlete upgrade is going to make at OU, as school that’s already knocking on the door of a championship, well…

More on that in a later post.”

He wasn’t talking to a player from the east coast…he was speaking to a defensive player in the 2021 class from OU’s traditional recruiting footprint.

For those of you tracking the ‘Eyes of Riley’…We bring you back to March 22nd…

‘We are working on some additional confirmation but initially, we believe it is a big one which could lead to additional dominoes falling, just watch.’

Definitely ‘Big’ and definitely leading to additional dominoes falling in favor of OU.

We will get into the detail more over the next couple of days, but this is a huge pickup for Lincoln Riley and the Sooners.
