The Sooners picked up a coveted commitment from priority linebacker Danny Stutsman (6’2.5″ 215) out of Winter Garden Florida.
Stutsman was offered by Sooners linebacker coach Brian Odom back in early March and it became quite clear that he was a priority for Oklahoma.
Stutsman put out his ‘Top Six’ on April 21st which consisted of OU, Texas A&M, Minnesota, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Virginia Tech.
Back when Stutsman was offered, he mentioned that he had previously been in touch with Odom sparingly, but once the offer came, the Sooners quickly made it clear to him that he was their focus.
The Sooners, led by Odom, locked this commitment up without Stutsman having physically visit Norman. They did it by building a relationship that really took off following the offer in which there was daily communication between him and a number of different staff members.
How much of a priority was securing Stutsman’s commitment to OU? If you have been reading the board, you are aware that the Sooners backed off Trenilyas Tatum (Jonesboro, GA) who was a big Oklahoma lean and was looking to commit to Oklahoma recently.
Brain Odom continues to trust his evaluations and then make decisive moves to go out and lock up the guys he wants in a very efficient manner.
If you have not watched his film yet, one look will give you a small glimpse of what Odom sees in Stutsman. I love this pick up for OU as he brings a different look to Oklahoma at linebacker than the recent linebacker types they have been targeting with his size and length.
Stutsman is the fifth commit in the Sooners 2021 class as he joins WR Cody Jackson, DL Ethan Downs, DB Jordan Mukes, and OL Cullen Montgomery in the class.
