Boom News! | 2020 WR Marvin Mims Commits to Oklahoma

The Sooners picked up a big commitment today from 2020 wide receiver Marvin Mims as he has flipped his verbal commitment from Stanford to Oklahoma!

The 5’11” 161 lb target had been committed to The Cardinal since August.

Mims was originally offered by Oklahoma back in February and his recruitment with OU went through some ups and downs until he visited Norman in mid-October. From that point, it seemed as though the two were destined to end up together.

Following his visit, Super K touched base with a source close to Mims who had this to say:

“Also, spoke with a source close to 2020 4-star Stanford WR commit, Marvin Mims. Here is what I heard…

– The Sooners want Mims but I’m told they want a clear decision soon. They don’t want to continue to wait on this. They want to know where they stand.

– Source said that Mims is reconsidering things due to how little Stanford throws the ball. This one is tough for me to really understand because, Stanford has always been more of a running team. In other words, the family had that information when Mims committed to them back in the summer. But, perhaps seeing it up close as the season plays out has made a difference.

– The issue with Mims for Oklahoma has long been concerns about the number of wide receivers and the depth at the position at Oklahoma. I’m not sure if there is much that’s going to change that. This is more something that the family has to work through.

– Primary other schools in the mix are Okie State and TCU. I’m told that the family is going to decide whether to take any additional visits or just make a final decision between Stanford and the Sooners.”

Mims brings some impressive speed and quick-twitch with him to the wide receiver class which includes Brian Darby and Trevon West.

Mims is the 18th commitment in the Sooners ’20 Deep’ class.
