BOOM News!!! 2019 Millwood (OKC) RB Commits to Sooners!!!

– Millwood High School hasn’t always been a great place for Oklahoma when it comes to landing in-state kids. 2019 running back, Marcus Major, seems to be ending the drought the Sooners have had at one the states top talent factories.

This commitment was a long time coming and really has taken several twists and turns in the last couple of weeks/months. I was informed about a month ago that a decision was coming for Major and the likely destination was going to be Oklahoma. That all seemed inevitable after the spring game when former Sooners star, Adrian Peterson, took a shine to Major and became a quasi-mentor to the star Okpreps running back. Major elaborated on their relationship saying, ” He never tried to sell me on OU. We just happened to have a lot in common, but he was good for life talk, not just football or what school I should attend.”

It went quiet for about two weeks and then I was called and informed that they would like to follow through with a commitment video. We began pitching video ideas. Even had one that was softly agreed on. It was at that point that we posted the thread about good news coming soon, back on Wednesday, which was followed about an hour later by Coach Riley’s famous eyes. All of that didn’t last long with certain entities leaking Major’s commitment. Video scrapped.

This is where the maturity of Major really came into light. He handled it with class, as did his family and coaches. That’s how we get to where we are today. Major has announced his commitment to the Sooners.

Coach Jay Boulware and Lincoln Riley really made Major feel at home, ” They were the biggest part of my decision. S&C Bennie Wiley was too. I know I will be with him more than anyone. He has a vision for us and  I love it.” Major added, “Riley’s scheme is so good and really fits me and Boulware has produced some really good running backs.”

He also said, “I decided to choose OU because it felt like home. I have built a great relationship with Coach Riley and the entire staff”. He continued by saying “Also, Coach Wylie is doing amazing things with the strength program and it really caught my attention”.

The football program was not the only thing that impressed Marcus and his family. He said, “The academic support is amazing and the facilities are state of the art”. He added “OU has a family atmosphere and I just really feel like this is a place I can spend the next four years of my life. I’m Excited to say ‘Boomer Sooner'”.

Major also liked the fact the Norman was so close, “Location is key. Friends and family can see me play.”

Major will not be an early enrollee, but he will be in Norman a lot. During that time I’m sure he will try and absorb the playbook and get to know his future teammates, he says.

With Major’s commitment, Oklahoma has one more RB spot in 2019.
