OU has landed a new commitment, as talented 2018 TX WR Treveon Johnson has committed to Oklahoma.

Johnson initially committed to Texas Tech back in August 2016. In January, he picked up an offer and attended the OU Junior Day. TFB’s own Super K mentioned his violence and speed as things he really liked about him, calling him “underrated.” Super K also mentioned that Johnson’s parents were very impressed with Oklahoma. In early spring, it started to seem that OU was very much in the race to open Johnson’s recruiting back up. Johnson has a good relationship with OU target Jaquayln Crawford, and both were planning on making it to the Spring Game. Although Johnson did not end up making it, good news came soon for Sooner fans.

TFB was able to get in touch with Johnson shortly after this. He mentioned wanting to make a return trip to OU, and spoke very highly OU WR Coach Dennis Simmons. Johnson wanted to make that return trip in early June, but was unable until June 20th. After the visit, he announced that his decision would come June 25th.

OU generally has success recruiting wide receivers: there are many reasons why, but several stick out to me. One is the obvious success Oklahoma has at developing star receivers. Just in the past few years, OU has had several all-timers in Ryan Broyles, Sterling Shepard, and Dede Westbrook. Another is the quarterback play in Norman, as it takes a back seat to nobody. Finally, OU does an excellent job of using receivers all over the field, regardless of their size. Dede Westbrook is too small? Put him outside and let him burn the defense. Mark Andrews is big enough to be a tight end? Line him up in the slot, let’s see how the secondary enjoys guarding him. Oklahoma uses the talent of receivers to its potential, which is a great thing to be able to show.

The Sooner offense got themselves another good one.
