Not OU related, but big news nonetheless.

Ash is out and starting center Espinoza is probably done for the year (broken bone in leg). New QB and new Center for BYU, then UCLA. Could get ugly quick in Austin.
Espinoza could actually redshirt and be better for next year. There was plenty of moaning on Shaggybevo about who is next man up. Real drop-off on an already thin Oline. Jordan Philips will be in heaven during the RRSO.
Only thing is, they don’t have a QB for next yr, IMO. Ash was good. I saw the game and he played okay. His soph yr was very good w/exception of 3 games (OU, which was definitely n/his fault–36-2 at half and like the USC game we played; TCU where he had broken ribs, and KU where UT n/play well). In every other game the O looked as good as any UT O ever. He’s good and OU fans don’t like to admit it b/c he’s UT. However, I don’t think UT has a backup QB who c/play D1 level (OU/UT level). I think UT is in bevo trouble b/c I don’t see Ash ever playing football again.
… get ugly quick in Austin.
One can only hope.
you mean stay ugly longer???
They shouldn’t be worried about UCLA. Did you watch them vs. Virginia? They were awful. I hate the Horns, but they’re better than Virginia in every way.
No way UCLA plays that poorly again.
You think so? It’s not like Virginia was playing all that well, they were just the definition of mediocre. I’d take OU against them in a heart beat.
Oh, I agree OU is better than UCLA, and I also agree that UV didn’t do anything particularly good the other day. I don’t know if it was the first game, or the fact that they flew from coast to coast, or what. But UCLA is a more talented offensive team than they showed against Virginia.
What happened to Ash?

Hate the horns, but feel really bad for David Ash. I hope he can recover. He needs to start thinking about life after football.
I can’t imagine any reputable coach letting this kid play ever again.
That’s really too bad, but I wondered how many hits he could take before getting another concussion. Not being a biased fan, but for the sake of his health, I really hope he considers hanging it up.

Big if, but if DGB stays, him, Mead, and Todd, and maybe Shepard if he returns? I don’t think Big XII DCs will get any sleep.
Even though it’s early in the 2015 season, I can’t help but look at the talent we’ll have for 2016.

Here’s Bob
Stoops: Every one of young RBs were 100 percent assignment correct.
Stoops: KJ Young came up with some big plays, excited to see deep balls to Sterling Shepard, o-line blocked well.
Stoops: Daryl Williams had the best game amongst the O-line. Keith Ford also a player of the game & entire No. 1 defense
Fox PBP guys picked Ross as player of the game. Personally, I’m ok with any of several guys.
Stoops: Kicking game was great, couple of nice PRs, Alex Ross with KR, Hunnicutt perfect for day.
Stoops on backup QB: We’re supposed to have a healthy one this week. Blake Bell is healthy and can always go.
Also adds Bell is taking reps at QB.
Lots of ambivalence here. On one side, says CT is available, then says Bell is taking QB reps. Maybe I am reading too much into this. That being said, Bell will go down as a legend in my book regardless of what/ how he does this season.
I can’t figure out why they don’t Let Hansen take reps.. Cody is hurt, didn’t even throw a pass in pregame apparently.. Baker is not eligible.. Let Hansen take some backup reps now.. Redshirt him next year, Baker will be eligible, Cody will still be here & so will Trevor..
Likely has to do with development. They probably believe Bell has a better understanding of the scheme at this point than Hansen which does not surprise me. In that case, it is better to let Bell take up CTs snaps and save the redshirt.
Stoops: Expectation is that Cody Thomas will be available this week at backup QB
Stoops said he expects to hear from the Big 12 office on Jordan Evans’ ejection later today. Evans WILL be able to play against Tulsa, which is obviously good news (even if expected).
Stoops: Jordan Phillips played great. He was in the backfield a bunch, was disruptive, and he felt great after the game.
Stoops: Jordan Phillips feels a lot better now than at this time last year, which is obviously a positive
Stoops on Ross as KR: We’ll be smart with how much he gets of it, but Alex is one of our better special teams guys.
Stoops on Mead: More closer we got to game week, Jeffrey just shows up. QBs just like him so much.
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/506490443400372224
Stoops: Loved what Eric Striker and Geneo Grissom were doing. Striker was much more disruptive than stat sheet showed.
Stoops on Bell at TE: I always knew he had the toughness, now it just comes down to does he have the size and ability and he does.
Stoops on Wilson: Looked really good at CB. I’ve been more than pleased with him thru the whole summer.
https://twitter.com/ryaber/status/506492842143793152
Stoops says DeMarco Murray texted him (jokingly, of course) asking him not to kick too many FGs this season to keep his scoring record intact.
Then he said Murray texted back and said he hoped Hunnicutt did break the record .
Stoops: We’ll see on Cortez Johnson. He’ll have to find out by today or then I’ll make a decision.
What is this about? I think I missed something on him.
No showed on saturday
Stoops on neutral site openers: We only have six games here as it is. I’m not real anxious to take one away from here, even for the community.
Stoops: Now if somebody we’re going to play in the future wants to give up one of theirs, then I’d be more apt for that.
Stoops: Love Calvin Thibodeaux. He’s the kind of guy you wish you had 100 of him.
That’s a wrap for today.
The Cortez and Quincy situations are weird. Too bad they didn’t just leave before the summer since they obviously couldn’t hack it here. I wouldn’t want those guys back if they’re crying about pt. Look what Stanvon did when his number was called.
unless qr had a really compelling personal reason for a no show, at a minimum, I would think that he just got an extended reservation in stoop’s dog house which would effectively end his ‘career’ here………..and cj played a yr for mstoops at zona, follows him here and gets buried……..perhaps he should have just stayed at zona
re mead……..is it totally up to a player if he redshirts or not?…….while he has a ton of potential, there were comments that he really needed to gain some strength and some weight……thoughts?……..as one of the taller receivers recruited recently, disappointed that cavil hasn’t made more noise so far
I bet our D line has the date circled for that little game south of the border.
I hope so with there starting center done for the year and I bet ash could be done, just think there might be a young kid trying to block Jordan Phillips, not good
If I’m coach Strong, I don’t let Ash anywhere near our pass rush.
I don’t let him anywhere near the football field again, unless its with a clipboard and headset.
Jordan, thanks yet again for all the time you save us by giving us this summary! Awesome!
Ross is made to return K/O IMO. Fast, strong, finds a hole and hes gone. Fits his skill set perfectly. Not like we dont have the depth at RB.
Texas announces David Ash will miss BYU game with concussion like symptoms.

Poor kid, I hope this doesn’t affect his long term health.
Probably for the best, seeing as how Espinosa is out. At least Swoopes (I’m assuming he’s the next guy up) can run.
Did anyone ask about Nila today?
Stoops said last night it was a minor injury and they were just being cautious; he’s expected to be back for Tulsa
Thanks
