Our CJ Vogel has made his way down to San Antonio for the All American Game. He will be providing you all with updates throughout the week and during the game!

Quite a hectic first day at the All American Bowl practice on Wednesday for me.

This is my first time in a scene like this but I really enjoyed seeing these kids up close.

My biggest takeaways:

TE Austin Stogner is a mismatch for any outside linebacker that lines up against him. All day Stogner was able to create separation from LBs through crafty route running and smart use of his size. Often Stogner matched up with CBs, who really did not stand a chance with Stogner’s size and length.

  • The ceiling for Stogner at Oklahoma is very, very high considering the recent studs they have produced at the position.

QB Spencer Rattler had himself an afternoon. I posted a video of Rattler and Stogner hooking up on an out-route in the earlier post. He is a talented player and I would not be surprised at all if he found play time next season.

WR Jadon Haselwood won several one-on-ones in early 7 on 7 but went down with a lower body injury. He did not participate for most of the afternoon.

WR Trejan Bridges doesn’t get talked about all that often, but he had a very good day today. A good majority of his receptions came within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, and quickly after the snap.

OT Stacey Wilkins ended up participating in 1 on 1 drills after sitting out the first practice session of the day.

OL EJ Ndoma-Ogar will be a very nice interior lineman at some point during his career at OU. I ddi not watch much of the inside period, but I did get to see two or three running lanes that were created by Ndoma-Ogar.

I’ll be looking at the aforementioned players again tomorrow, as well as OL Enokk Vihami, David Ugwoegbu and Noa Pola-Gates.

Spencer Rattler

Rattler obviously watched the Oklahoma-Alabama match up in Miami last week and shared his thoughts.

“Man, Alabama, that’s a tough team to play, they’re a bunch of grown men out there on defense, they’re just crazy on that side of the ball.” said Rattler. “We are that close to getting to that next step. So hopefully we can get that in the future.”

Rattler is coming in as the highest rated pro-style quarterback in the 2019 class and is completely focused on finding his way on the field. However, with Tanner Mordecai and Austin Kendall already in the mix, Rattler knows it won’t be a straight shot the field.

That path may get tougher if the Sooners pursue Justin Fields, the former No. 2 QB in the country during the 2018 cycle.

“Right now, I am just focused on getting on the field. That’s my first goal, I won’t be able to do anything without getting on the field.”

Rattler said he is where he wants to be at 200 pounds and is constantly working on his craft.

Despite Marquise Brown declaring for the NFL Draft, Rattler is thrilled with the wide receivers currently on roster and in the 2019 cycle for the Sooners.

“Our receiving class is already solid. Trejan [Bridges], Theo [Wease] and Austin [Stogner], we got some studs,” said Rattler. “Austin is a killer, we killed it at The Opening and we’re doing it again here.”

While 5-star WR Jadon Haselwood is set to make his decision during the All American Bowl game on Saturday, Rattler said he has let that decision rest entirely on Haselwood. He did mention that he and Trejan Bridges their best recruiting spiel earlier in the week.

The Sooner-t0-be also said he is all in on the Red River Rivalry game and has engaged in a friendly rivalry with some of the Longhorn signees at the All American Bowl festivities.

And if Rattle finds the endzone this Saturday, he said to expect the Horns to be shot down as a celebration.

Stacey Wilkins

He said his foot was stepped on and swelled earlier in the day which caused for him to be in a small boot at the beginning of practice.

Wilkins did end up participating in the joint practice that focused primarily on OL and DL one-on-ones. He said the foot is still ginger but he is expecting to play in the game and it isn’t anything serious.

I’ll have a more in-depth conversation with Wilkins tomorrow.

Jadon Haselwood

I’ll have more on Haselwood tomorrow. He had a family emergency to tend to which cut our previous conversation short.

But he did say he has made a decision and is on schedule to announce during the game.
