During Monday morning’s Big 12 conference call, Bob Stoops said cornerback Zack Sanchez is “expected to practice today and be fine for the game.” Which is obviously great news after Sanchez suffered what at the time looked like a potentially scary (in terms of the impact his loss would’ve had for the OU defense) shoulder injury this past Saturday.
So barring any kind of setback in practice this week, it would appear Sanchez will be available against a talented Tennessee receiver corps.

That is great news!!!!
Poker?
I really think that if our D line and linebackers play decently that Tennessee has VERY little success through the air. We’ve held back so far, but this Saturday we will play MUCH more aggressively.
Yes, and the offense will open up more too.
Thank goodness! It was obvious what an impact Sanchez had on our entire defense when he went out.
It kinda scares me that we might be only 1 deep at corner. I hope there are more opportunities for the 2s to play quality minutes. Hopefully they just need more experience.
JT is getting better. Julian looks good right now. But these Tennessee receivers are nice so they’ll be a good test.
Would appreciate your analysis on our secondary. So far, it’s scared me. I see lots of enemy receivers getting free and open.
Secondary has been a concern of mine for years with OUr team. It seems like other teams are deflecting/defending a lot more balls than we are. We seem to give receivers room to make the catch and then tackle. Not sure why…
Might be the “bend don’t break” style that Mike has used in the past. I think he continues that; the secondary can play conservative seeing that the pass rush will eventually disrupt the drive.
Tennessee lost their stud WR, Von Pearson for this game. You’re right in their WR corp being good, but the depth is thinner.
I thought malone was their stud receiver? hes the one who had 3 td in their spring game IIRC.
I was going by stats which admittedly don’t give the full picture. Marquez North leads at 106 Yards/ 2 TDs. VP was sitting at 98/ 1TD before he went down. Kid is legit.
Malone hasn’t seen much time. Who knows what’ll happen this game though…
true, north has looked good so far. lets hope malone dosent fulfill his potential this weekend lol.
I’d like to see Steven Parker get some more time, he’s impressed me so far. Obvious ability to be versatile. Solid tackler.
On the radio broadcast, at the time, Dusty speculated on Sanchez’ injury and said that if it was what he had experienced it would turn out to just be a case of pain management. He said it was extraordinarily painful, but “If you can stand the pain, you can play.” (easy for him to say. heh. heh…)
For sure, Colvin played thru something similar for most of last year.
Colvin was amazing last year playing the end of the season with one arm. In the dictionary, they should put his picture beside “man up.”
Thanks for the update JE.
Happy to do it. But those conference calls can be pretty brutal to sit thru 😉
Great news!
He has to get his head up!
So, given Bob Stoops’ history on injury reports, either ZS is fine… or they’re amputating his arm later today at OU medical center. 🙂
Maybe he’s getting a cyborg arm.
Zack “Winter Soldier” Sanchez
Oh, you a funny man. 😉

I was wondering where they found the linebacker scholarship, now we know.
Great news. After the last few seasons, we’re due some good news on the injury front.
Thank god, was super worried.
Great News. Between him and Julian I feel pretty confident in our pass defense. As long as the LB’s start recognizing their assignments better.
Maybe when Mike tells him in the film room to quit tackling with his shoulder he will listen. Sometimes hard to get guys to change the way they play because they have been doing it so long and been successful. He’s going to be a good one. Just needs to wrap up.
Per Zach’s tweet, he and I have a different definition for “minor injury”. Four straight games with an INT for #15. Looking for five straight this Saturday.
I’ll believe it when I see him play on saturday.
Very, very good news. Huge relief.
