First of all happy Friday y’all! Also happy game week! Hope it’s a great and safe Labor Day weekend for everyone!
– Torrance Gibson: Earlier this week we reported that Gibson let us know he will be taking an official to Oklahoma for the Tennessee game in a couple weeks. We want to give y’all a run down on where things currently stand with Torrance based on what we’ve heard. First, Bleacher Report recently reported that Torrance Gibson’s Top 3 are Ohio State, Oklahoma and Arizona. For months now we’ve been saying that Gibson would run out of options simply because quarterbacks are not generally afforded the same length of time to make a commitment. Gibson’s original favorites including LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, etc. have all taken quarterbacks. OU obviously hasn’t taken a quarterback and from what we can tell, neither has Arizona. Ohio State has taken a quarterback, but are still heavily recruiting Gibson.
We’ll be very candid here. We checked with someone very close to Gibson earlier this week and despite Gibson taking a visit to OU, we were told “he is all but done to Ohio State.” That certainly sounds bleak and it should come as no surprise. Ohio State has very strong ties in Florida and in particular with people close to Torrance. However, it’ll be interesting to see how big of an impression OU can make in a couple weeks. After all, Torrance never got a chance to see OU in all it’s glory and splendor. When he visited OU previously, it was the final days of spring break and there was no one on campus.
Meanwhile with all the rest of the schools he visited, he got a chance to meet the players, interact with all the coaches, etc. If Gibson does indeed make it to OU, it’s going to be very interesting to see how Bob Stoops, the environment, etc. can make an impact. Remember, even though Torrance didn’t get the full OU experience, he actually really liked his first visit. Also, one has to keep in mind that OU is poised to make a lot of noise this season. Ohio State, meanwhile, just lost their number one QB.
– Khaylan Thomas: Earlier this week Oklahoma offered linebacker, Khaylan Thomas out of Etiwanda, California. Chatted with Khaylan earlier this week and while we first suspected he was being recruiting as an inside linebacker, he said he was told that he was offered as an outside linebacker. He certainly has the bend and edge explosion of an OLB in OU’s scheme, but he doesn’t have the length of guys like Ricky Deberry, Cassius Peat, Bo Wallace, etc. Watching him, he looks like a guy OU saw and was wowed by and said…”let’s take him and figure out exactly where to play him later.”
After receiving his OU offer, Thomas immediately put the Sooners in his Top 5 and when we asked him if he’ll be visiting OU he said emphatically, “Oh yes I will.” We asked Thomas which game he’d like to visit for and he said he still needs to look at the schedule, but he’s looking towards either the Baylor game or the Oklahoma State game. As far as a decision timeline he said, “I’m probably going to commit in January.”
– Anthony McKee: Ohio LB, Anthony McKee, also told us earlier this week that he’d like to visit for the Tennessee game. However, with all the recruits coming in, we won’t be surprised if OU asks him to push his visit back a bit.
– Amonte Caban: Chatted briefly with Caban and, as mentioned above with McKee, OU has asked Caban to push back his visit to OU. He had originally hoped to make it in to the Tennessee game, but he said Coach Kish told him, “there will probably be a lot of recruits there…he (coach Kish) wants me to get the attention that I should.”
– Weekend Visitors (Jalin Barnett): The Drake posted a list of weekend visitors over on The Original Posters. We have been able to confirm everything he reported. Obviously, this isn’t a big game so there aren’t a ton of people coming in. But an important offensive line recruit, Jalin Barnett, did say that he will try to make it.
Last week, former OU target, Tyler Moore released his Top 5 which obviously didn’t include OU, because OU didn’t end up extending an offer. However, what was interesting is around the same time Texas offered Moore, OU was still recruiting him very hard. And according to Moore, OU told him they are still very interested in him. But since they’d already extended an offer to Jalin Barnett, they couldn’t extend an offer that they couldn’t stand by. OU is one of those schools that doesn’t just throw out non-committable offers (which is a good thing). But Moore also said he was told that Jalin isn’t going to have to make a decision soon because they (OU) don’t want to miss out on Moore waiting on another player.
Fast forward to now, we checked with Moore and asked if he was still hearing from OU and he said he has not. That is very interesting because, according to Moore, he was in regular communication with Coach Bedenbaugh for more than a year. It sounds like Barnett to OU is all but a done deal and OU knows it.
– Marquiz Simpkins: Another visitor coming to Norman this weekend is Clinton, OK RB Marquiz Simpkins. We’ve assumed all along that Oklahoma was only taking one RB and that may very well still be the case. But Simpkins is an interesting prospect. OU has been recruiting bigger backs, and Simpkins could bring a smaller change of pace type back to the offense. Just because Simpkins is smaller in terms of height, he still has great strength and speed. At 5’9″ he already wears nearly 190 lbs and is one of the quick physical backs that can hide behind offensive linemen and make life miserable for defenses. You want to talk strength and speed? Simpkins bench presses 315 lbs and ran a 4.35 40 at an OSU camp this past summer!
– Patrick Hudson: Many of you probably aren’t familiar with 2016 OT, Patrick Hudson out of Silsbee, TX. We had a chance to speak to Hudson’s mother for quite a while yesterday, and she told us that OU has offered Hudson. Patrick is currently a Baylor commit. He was actually an early TAMU commit, and once he received the Baylor offer he flipped. His head coach has strong ties to Art Briles. However in talking to Hudson’s mother it seems clear the decision was made based on what they were told by people around them. And not necessarily based on having all the information about which schools will give Patrick the best chance to succeed on the field and play at the highest level. Hudson’s mother told us that they’d very much like to visit OU.
– TAMU Beats South Carolina: And the recruits go crazy! Right? Well, anyone who watched that game and knows the littlest bit about football (and has the tiniest amount of objectivity, very rare in SEC country) could see that South Carolina’s defense did not play well. Not trying to take anything away from TAMU, but it’s the simple reality. Just wanted to share a text we received from one of the top CB recruits in Texas (not named PJ Mbanasor) after the TAMU game, “I was thinking about direct messaging the defensive coordinator from South Carolina and say I could help out at cornerback.”
– OK Preps Scrimmage Notes: Last week Ace was at some OK HS scrimmages and saw a few of the top recruits in the state including 2016 QB Keaton Torre, 2015 WR and Louisville commit Dahu Green, 2016 RB Z’Quan Hogan, and 2015 QB and OSU commit John Kolar. Here are a few of his notes:
Keaton Torre – Overall looked more impressive than OSU commit, John Kolar. Torre shows a shiftiness that is similar to what we saw from Trevor Knight at Reagan. It doesn’t matter when the play has broken down, Torre seems to make a play last for what feels like days. His mechanics as a HS QB are superior to what Justice Hansen possessed. He allows his arm motion to be completely over the top generating more zip. Torre has to work on his intermediate accuracy. His timing seemed off with some receivers. He threw quite a few balls low and inside the WR, but this should get ironed out by week one. His offense is set up through play action, which causes the linebackers to overextend on the zone read, so once Torre gets the timing down with his receivers his stats should blow up. Overall, you see a competitor. He has strong mechanics and good athleticism. Not surprised he’s got an early offer from Bobby Petrino at Louisville.
Dahu Green – Killed the Cover-2 coverage. No one played up on the 6’4″ receiver. At first he was a cause for concern, but as the scrimmage wore on he became a flat out menace. Dahu is a slick athlete. He already seems to know how to use his body and create separation. Petrino will certainly be pleased with his new red zone target. I need to see his press release, but he’s such a big strong kid that it would seem difficult to press him. His route tree looks like a Georgia Tech receiver right now, but he’s got plenty of time to develop that and there’s no question Lousiville will get him right. Dahu was averaging something like 20+ yards per reception. He should have tons of yards this season. Westmoore will utilize Dahu in a trips open set with him as the open receiver, trying to get him on the island.
John Kolar – Kolar has the tools than an OC salivates over. He’s calm and knows the offense’s checks. He’s got nice touch on the ball. Doesn’t have the zip that Keaton Torre has though. North is going to utilize Kolar as a rollout passer, and he is elite at throwing on the run. He can even throw well across his body on a rollout (a big no-no).
Z’Quan Hogan – Hogan has the tools to be a three-down back. With his athleticism and size he should easily be able to run between the tackles but he’s got the elusiveness to to be effective on screens and flood routes. Hogan currently seems to gravitate to the sideline. He doesn’t want to stick to the hole so he bounces the ball outside. He isn’t DeAnthony Thomas or Dexter McCluster, but could potentially make some OC very happy if he learns to stay true to the hole. As of right now Hogan is a guy with a great ceiling, but again he’s a little hampered by his desire to bounce everything outside.
– (UPDATE Fri., 12:40 pm): According to multiple reports, Frank Shannon’s attorney is holding a press conference at 4 p.m. today. No word yet on whether this is good or bad news with respect to Shannon’s standing with the program.

Linebacker recruiting is REALLY starting to make me nervous. Kish needs to get his act together, and fast.
Couldn’t agree more. Good thing we’ve got a few months before Signing Day. Hopefully Kish can reel in a couple ILB’s… and Malik Jefferson.
Can’t believe they want Thomas at OLB, not ILB. Maybe they want more height at ILB?
I agree! Looks like he could fit either but a perfect ILB in my eyes.
The aTm game from last night doesn’t make me feel better about our chances with M. Jefferson.
Yeah, the “politics” thing with Frank Shannon, and the TAMU defensive performance last night has me thinking Malik Jefferson could be once again be leaning toward them.
The only concern I have about the linebacker recruiting us that he hasn’t gotten even one early commit from the 3 star guys. I get waiting on the 4/5 star guys but the 3 star guys should be looking at the numbers and say hey let me commit first so I have a spot.
I know! OU is long over due for a high profile commit at the LB position. What in the world could be holding recruits back from us at this position?
We don’t have publicity swagger. I mean Sports Center left OU off their poster of teams competing for a playoff spot. Zack Sanchez let everyone know.
I am really puzzled about asking 2 great lb recruits (Caban and McKee) to come to some other game than Tennessee because of overcrowding? I see why I would never make it as a coach. If Anthony Wheeler makes it somehow I would get DeBerry,Peat, Wheeler, Caban,McKee and show them a lot of love and say who is commiting today? I know that never will work but OU and Kish need a little mojo. With all these stud athletes coming to the Tennessee game I hope OU doesn’t end up 0 for 20 or whatever. Since this is an Open Post I have another off the wall posts coming up.
I agree it’s puzzling if they wanted to go to that game then I say let them see who’s there as competition for those linebacker spots. But they may feel those 2 are guys they need to make an impression on and give special treatment to win their commitment. Plus they probably hope to know where they stand with wheeler, peat, KLS, and deberry after that weekend.
Excellent point. Do we know if Shannon would be back next year? That might change things. A big hoss in the middle with this defense, heck it is almost unfair.
More content up by 9 am than any other OU site will probably have up all day. You all are really spoiled 😉
There is no denying that my friend!! Thanks for everything you do Jordan!!
thank you all for reading and making it worth doing!
You are the content king.
We are VERY spoiled. Damn it’s good to be a SOONER! : )
It’s good to be spoiled.
not renewing any of my subscriptions on other sites because of yours. so thank you.
Exactly Rico. And my friends are doing the same. What’s the point of them any more? Other sites better step up their games.
Yes we are. You have our infinite gratitude.
No need to toot toot. It’s appreciated for sure.
toot.
You’re special.
Damned right he is. Beats pimpin’! LOL
You better go get that shoulder checked out.
Everyone really appreciates what you all are doing here, but the constant bragging about it and bragging about being the first to report this or that is getting really damn annoying.
with the new season starting, it does seem like a good time to “let it go”
Agreed. The work speaks for itself. Leave it at that. I love competition, but being a baby about it isn’t cool.
That was rude. This is a free site, show some manners for God’s sake. They obviously work their tails off. You point is not off but man, maybe a softer approach. Free does not happen everyday and this stuff is better than water in the desert.
I don’t think Michael, or myself, was being too harsh. We were both being honest. It comes with the territory. We both appreciate the information. It’s wonderful that we can come to another OU site and get info. Moreover, I appreciate ANYBODY’s hard work, whether it’s free or not. The point is, you don’t have to call your competition out every chance you get. It gets old rather quickly. We get it. That’s why we come to this site. So, like i said, the content should speak for itself.
wow, real nerve. if you dont like what you read just dont come to the site. how can you complain about something free? brag all you want, its the truth and some people dont like to hear it.
It’s called speaking in a facetious manner @disqus_1dfeCvciEp:disqus
And there’s always Jenni Carlson articles if it get’s too much for ya 😉
That’s called swagger. You can gtfo if you don’t like it. They have earned it
Jebus…that’s not swagger. I didn’t know you could have “swagger” running a blog. Your “gtfo if you don’t like it” comment is un-called for. Nobdoy was being rude, except for you.
Complaining about a free site is rude, period. You calling them a baby is quite rude also. Other sites try and run tfb down, are you complaining on their boards for them to stop?
You can have swagger in anything you do. When you are blowing away paid competition, you have earned some bragging rights.
just let it go and enjoy the best ou site on the net
And you. If you don’t like how Jordan writes- why are you here? He doesn’t come over to YOUR job and knock the d@@k out of your mouth! That would be rude, as well. LOL
Jordan isn’t the only writer here. And I never said I didn’t like the way Jordan writes. Some of you are acting like I stabbed your puppy in the face.
Come on Stuart! Many of us come here to read what he says, and even the way he says it. I don’t appreciate anyone acting like they need to change or correct or admonish someone’s style who I enjoy on a daily basis, and who is providing it on a free site where anyone can go elsewhere if they choose. It’s inappropriate because the vast majority of readers don’t agree with your critique- or asking him to change!
I give up. It’s obvious you cannot understand the context of what I was saying. Jordan said he understood and took note, and here you are still trying to defend him. Get over it and move on. Everything is ok. You don’t need to defend him anymore. Life will go on, I promise.
*Hint:
Next time maybe a private message/email to the brainiacs, so as not to ruffle the feathers of other posters, who are apparently filled with passion for their Brainiacs! (which is great by the way…) lol
Agreed. I didn’t think it would be taken quite so personally by some.
It’s all good intentions…we’re all SOONERS here, well cept’ the occasional trolls!
Never mistake kindness for weakness. He can say what he pleases.
what the hell does that even mean?
Is that you Joey?
Joey who?
Fellas let’s put this conversation to bed if y’all don’t mind. We’re all Sooners here and more importantly we are all humans…let’s forgive, forget, whatever and move on.
agreed man. I feel like I say what I want to say and then there is another reply. I’ll stop responding. I wasn’t trying to ruffle any feathers or anything. I’m sorry if it was taken that way. You guys all provide a really cool service. I’m bowing out of the convo. Have a good labor day weekend. Boomer!
My apologies to michael and anyone else I offended. I love the site, appreciate all you guys do(especially doing it only to share your love of the program with us fellow sooners), and only want to see you guys continue to do your thing.
I think we will all feel better after a massive butt whopping of la tech tomorrow. Boomer!
No swag.
They may sometimes be the first to report and let it be known, but they also give credit to others when they are the first to report. I’m just excited about the content they bring and could care less if they are the first to report and want people to know it. Thanks thefootballbraniacs for continuing whatever mission you guys are on.
this is true. always been a policy of mine. i see no harm in crediting others, though that has clearly been a one way street a lot of the time.
point taken. i’d only say TFB tends to get so little credit for doing these things, I have a tendency to point it out since others don’t. but i’m sure you are right, i could stand to do less of it.
Jordan, TFB gets plenty of credit on other message boards. I see plenty of posts from people who stick up for this site. I am one of them. I am simply saying that I don’t think you need to toot your own horn because the work does that on it’s own. You guys put out wonderful material everyday. It hasn’t gone unnoticed.
newsok.com put’s these guys too shame. You’ll love it!
I hear ya and I appreciate the feedback. I can give it a rest, no big deal.
Ignore the criticism Jordan. I don’t read the other sites hardly ever and love to know what you’ve scooped them on! There’s no reason at all to shy away from being honest about your wins over better financed and bigger sites!
I know man. That free info really sucks. I remember when I was seven and complained about everything
Michael, I understand your sentiment but please let me contextualize this a little bit for you and I’ll do so by giving you an example. We were first to report many of the top names attending the Tennessee game (Neville Gallimore, Gabriel Campbell, Jarrett Guarantano, and others) but despite this we get writers from other sites that attack us, unprovoked, on twitter and even the radio (in one instance) for “stealing” information. And it’s absolute lie. We know because when we see public information from any other site we credit it and we spent countless hours in our free time trying to gather the information. So when you see one of us sometimes say “as we first reported” it’s sort of our way of reminding our readers in case anyone actually believes the things they say. Your comment is noted though and we appreciate you being a regular reader and commenter.
I can attest to that. The 3 names you mentioned above plus the other 17 visitors I have for the OU/Tenn. game were picked up on this site. Oh by the way as I pointed out to Jordan “it ain’t bragging if you done it”. Please have your staff to send my renewal notice at last year’s prices.
guilty as charged
Do you do a lot of it the night before as I assume, Jordan? And/or just get up really early? I am impressed by how much material you put out early in the morning before the pay sites have even woken up. Great job. Great effort as well!
I gather links throughout the previous day, but go over things in the a.m. before posting. A lot of what I write is in the moment. I tend to not pre-write a lot of things. Probably why I’m not very good at this whole writing thing 🙂
Wow Jordan. A literary genius with humility. love it.
haha, far from it but thanks
Thats awesome. Thanks guys!! Love the attitude.
What sugar daddies are to the ladies so is football brainiacs to football junkies.
I love this comment by Jordan, which to me was OBVIOUSLY IN JEST (even though there is some truth to it), and I for one, a nearly daily reader, haven’t noticed any ANNOYING tooting of one’s own horn from the TFB’s. And to me, pointing out that you are the first to report something, is what news people do. I’ve heard plenty of ‘news slogans’ from tv stations, to newspapers, to websites, claiming to be the quickest and first to report. Seems to come with the territory with news and trying to gain more readers/watchers…
And for those with issues of TFB’s style, may I suggest removing panties from wad formation…
Yes…yes we are.
BOOMER!!!
Anybody got a pacifier I can borrow? 🙂
Anybody got a pacifier I can borrow? 🙂
So Thaddeus LaGrone isn’t on the roster anymore? Any idea why?
We checked with OU. Waiting to hear back.
Maybe that he got passed up by some younger guys & decided to leave? Always thought he’d be solid on special teams if nothing else
Felt the same way and thought if injuries had piled up he’d be an acceptable fill in if needed.
SWEEET! (In Eric Cartman’s voice! of course) Super K has serious contacts to call on as needed at will! For free, I should add. And get a STRAIGHT answer when they do respond! Appreciate the time and effort, Super K, that you put out to make this site better every day knowing just how full your plate must be! Thanks again, dude.
Open post withdrawal. Finally getting my fix.
So, in your guys opinions should OU offer Marquiz Simpkins, Keaton Torre, Dahu Green, or Quan Hogan? Are there any other 2015/2016 OKPreps kids you think they should offer?
In any other year, I think Green would have had an offer a while ago.
Wouldn’t you think if he just has a monster season that OU has to really consider offering him. I know we have a lot of big WRs already, but I just wouldn’t let that factor in too heavily.
Ou should offer no matter what. 2 players that should already have offers (instate) are dahu and whitfield. IMO probably the 2 best athletes with mayfield right behind them.
Agree completely. I’m not a guy to bang the OKPrep drum because I’m from/in Michigan so I have no particular allegiance the OKPrep football, it’s just that it makes sense to keep the best in-state kid in-state.
What about the other guys Jordan. Do you think they are worthy, deserving of offers?
I’d wait to see what Brooks can give you before offering Simpkins. Torre w/b a possibility depending on what happens w/ Buechele. Don’t know enough about Hogan right now to offer an opinion.
Another question, of the guys that OU has coming in that we know for the Tennessee game, which ones should be their real priorities? I’d feel these guys should be their main targets:
Ricky DeBerry
Torrance Gibson
Neville Gallimore
Kahlil Haughton
Keisean Lucier-South
Cassius Peat
Ykili Ross
I think Sunderland is already pretty locked in and will be buddying up with Mixon anyway, so he doesn’t need to be a focus really. Danley prob needs a bit more attention than say Patrick Allen or Martinis Rankin.
There’s Only ONE Oklahoma!!
1 Day Till Football Time in OKLAHOMA!!! BOOMER SOONER!!!
It has been my pleasure to do this countdown each day. There isn’t much more in this world I love as much as OU football. Lets go get 8!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fis7-OFuJas
BOOM.
If that don’t get your Sooner blood pumping, I regret to inform you that you passed away some time ago!
So I’ve watched these in the days leading up to first kickoff, without fail, since 2008.
Should I skip it this season?
Hmm, yeah…couldn’t hurt. :/
Seems Gibson likes dating but doesn’t wanna get married. 🙂
Silsbee, TX
There is not much to do down there. At. All. When neighboring Beaumont, TX is the place you go for fun, you know you live in the sticks. 🙂
Usually I don’t put out silly and nonsensical information such as this but for this labor day weekend ‘m making an exception.
Everybody have a happy and safe weekend and be good to your loved ones and Boomer Sooner!
USA goals?
Very good.
What’s it mean?
Ugh………..
Well that’s a good way to inform someone.
Why don’t you answer him? What does it have to do with criticizing the writers on this site?
@paganpink:disqus
Has absolutely nothing to with site. Nothing whatsoever………….
Did you enjoy the Texas A&M game last night. Boy I sure did. Great coverage by the network too.
I just googled it and found the answer. I have never used that site, so I wouldn’t have known what it was. Good advice though.
Give Google a hug for me. It took me awhile to find it so I didn’t want to make it too obvious.
HAHAHA!!!! Awesome, ND52! Seriously, very creative!
Marquiz Simpkins = Quentin Griffin? That would be sweet!
OU Stat of the Day: Stoop’s Sooners have “hung half a hundred” in 3 openers:
’00 – 55-14 UTEP
’07 – 79-10 North Texas
’08 – 57-02 Chattanooga
– If we do it this year, that will be 4 out of 16 years, or 25%.
Having a veteran o-line and a returning QB, I see no reason why we can’t score 50 points on this team, when we scored 41 against Alabama last year to end the year.
And two of those seasons, we went to a BCS championship game.
Whoa whoa, are some of you guys seriously griping about TFB “bragging” that they broke the news first? These guys are giving us great information FREE of charge, they can brag all they want to. Jeez, get a grip.
man, didn’t think my comment about content would spark off such a firestorm. guess that had been building for a while w/ some of you.
regardless, message received. i’ll ease up on the self-promotion, appreciate the input.
Nah, OU and it’s fan base needs to be loud and proud. Tired of being skipped over by popular media. If you’re the best it’s perfectly alright to let people know. I mean, just ask Richard Sherman. LOB
Never stop being yourself @jordanesco:disqus F__k the haters.
I assume they have asked their paid site to do the same???
Jordan, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Rarely in life can you put great with free. If someone doesn’t like the channel, don’t listen.
Keep it up jordan. RJ and the video guy probably sent them over here.
Carey’s inside source is Jordan Esco’s tweets.
Carey needs to find a source at the gym.
OUCH
He did, but they were both confused. The buffet was on the other side of the parking lot. They had to walk all the way back to their cars and drive over there. Exhausting day. Luckily he was able to read Jordan’s tweets while eating.
I was going to say the same thing, but for Hale. But then I realized that couldn’t be true…he keeps getting almost everything wrong…
come on man. Nobody did anything like that. I don’t have a particular allegiance to any site or any reporter. I just like Sooner football.
Then read the info and drop the attitude.
JMO.
I don’t have an attitude. Just because I made a statement doesn’t mean I have an attitude. You people are REALLY protective. Group think at its worst. It’s kind of freaky actually.
You’re doing fine, Jordan! I understand you taking pride in how you’re blowing away the paid sites. And you have every right to BE proud even when you do it tongue in cheek. Ignore anyone who says differently and has never written anything on deadline in their lives. They’re losers who miss the humor completely, and spend their days being perpetually offended! Not worth five seconds of your time.
I do write for a deadline for a living. Stop painting with such broad strokes.
Then write somewhere else and stop criticizing another writers style that we all enjoy on here. Do you want me to call you a petulant fool who adds nothing to the conversation? I didn’t think so. The difference is my statement is true. Your statement about Jordan isn’t!
Say what you want. Why stop now? It makes no difference to me. My work gets criticized. It’s part of people reviewing your stuff.
Someone needs to chill out. It’s not like he said Jordan rapes babies or anything. Why are you getting your panties in a bunch over someone who doesn’t particularly love self-gloating? That’s a perfectly normal thing to find irritating. Get over yourself.
“Someone needs to chill out”-probly the guys complaining about free things. To me, and probly others here, someone who complains and then acts like theirs is the only opinion you could have is way more obnoxious than anything Jordan could ever say
First off, where was anyone complaining about free things? I’ve re-read the comments and found no mention of anyone complaining about the content provided by Jordan or any contributors of this site. The only person(s) who acted like their opinion is the only “right” opinion are those getting their panties in a bunch and “defending” Jordan, who, by the way, has acknowledged the criticism and has moved on. Those getting riled up by a person sharing a VERY small concern about the way the news is reported – NOT the content – are acting very childish. But whatever. This is all dumb because the only thing that matters is the FACT that this site rocks.
the site is the best there could possibly be. the only childish people are the ones who come on here and don’t get everything their way(the content and the wording) and then have to spout off about it. there is no need to question the content or the manner in which it is provided, unless those questions are to find out if the information is accurate, which in that case, do your own research. too many glass houses coming on here dropping lines about “great info but don’t say it this way, i want you to say it this way.” when someone, who is not getting paid, brings you FREE info, bite your tongue or just say thank you and go on your way
I have to take issue with your line of thinking. I am very appreciative of the work that is put into the site. I think 99.9% of us are. You can be thankful for something and still offer constructive criticism. I think not saying anything is more harmful than speaking up. Provided one isn’t a jerk about it…but I don’t think anyone has been a jerk here.
i would have to agree with everything you just said. constructive criticism should be the only kind. if i misread something, forgive me.
Thanks man. As I said above, I sure didn’t mean to come across in a bad way towards anyone. It’s easy for things to get taken wrongly on an on-line forum.
I guess I just prefer the KD approach of letting your work do the talking over the Lebron approach. To each his own.
i will shut up and leave it alone since i just got compared to lebron…ouch..haha
Don’t change a thing! You guys are doing great and your hard work is much appreciated by me.
Oh goodness-had to go back and read what a bad boy you had been. I’m still looking but will have to cease ( getting time to go get ready for Friday afternoon happy hour)). If it’s what I think you done then it’s like that old saying ” It ain’t bragging if you done it”. You and the TFB are doing a fine job.
see if they got any whinikins for some of these guys
I actually prefer to know when TFB is the first to report something, and would prefer you point that out. You always credit other sites when they get it first. I’ve seen you credit Carey Murdock and Bob Pryzbylo when they break stories, even when they don’t reciprocate. I like to keep a running total in my mind, because it makes me laugh at how often you beat pay sites to the punch.
I would even recommend it because I’m sure these other sites are reading this site constantly and will happily take your info, post it on their site and claim they reported something first, if you haven’t made that known already. So, please, keep letting us know when you report stories/info first. That’s my humble request anyway…
That’s exactly how I feel, JB. I rarely read other sites and I like to know when TFB’s get the story out of the gate first. Perhaps it makes me feel better to know that I saved my money on pay sites and am still getting the up to the minute stories that I love. But the inside analysis and everything about this site is great IMO.
Jordan, don’t ever apologize for being good. TFB is always gracious when accepting compliments. I didn’t/don’t see anything wrong with what you all do. This is, by far, the most respectful site I’ve ever gone to. That goes for the TFB and its readers/followers.
I hope you took my jab as a joke and nothing more. As long as you don’t start acting better than everybody else and think you’re the only game in town, like the round, boastful, arrogant guy at Rivals (NOT EDDIE OR JOSH OR RJ), it’s not a big deal.
Jordan #bringthewood
Per the Twitter World: Frank Shannon’s attorney Aletia Timmons has announced a 4 p.m. press conference. #Sooners
Today at 12:27 PM
Anyone have any knowledge about why Frank Shannon’s attorney has called a 4:00 pm press conference today?
I wonder if it’s good or bad news.
Same here. I hate surprises especially bad ones.
Omygosh, I cannot wait to see Coach Mike’s defense. I love points but I’m old-fashioned. I want our D to just crush people and take them out of their game early. Yeah, 1974 and 1985 neighborhood’s would be good.
For those who don’t like something about the site or whatever I have a suggestion. Send an email to the admin to let them know your concern or ignore the comment section if that’s your issue. But for me this site is unlike others because the posters are very complementary of each other. The bickering and insults are not cool, if you want to hide behind your monitors and make those comments then it would be great if you did it somewhere else such as your own blog or twitter, there’s plenty of trolls there. That’s my opinion so let’s get back to football.
Hopefully Shannon’s attorney is announcing something good. I don’t want to see a lawsuit filed but I have a feeling that’s coming.
As usual Zack, spot on. What makes this website so unique are the lack of sarcastic / bitter / high and mighty attitude from posters that plague other OU websites. That on top of the breaking information that is given to us for free. The fact that people are whining about it is insane. Some people just can’t be pleased I guess.
lot of wet blankets can’t be happy with nothing
I take pride in the fact that I come here to get my info and discuss ou football. I’ve gone to other sites and they usually have a handful of posters who would jump all over anyone’s comments and then once they do it seems like everyone in that thread is doing the same thing. And I’ve found that they really don’t offer any more of an inside look than tfb does, although if you go there (any site) they will claim that they have the best sources the most insider news. And I also don’t like that they’ve taken to twitter to attack jordan when he’s just minding his own business.
Didn’t know about the tweets. Seems like there are lots of people trying to knock you down when you have success. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. You may see me behind the wheel of a large automobile…oh, sorry. Reminded me of a song,
You, sir, get an up-vote.
Thanks Stephen. Were you the Stephen that was trying to do a fantasy league?
I was! Didn’t really know how to organize the whole thing with people on here, though.
Yeah I understand I’ve been trying to organize one for this year but I still need 6 people. I’m just not sure who all on here is into espn fantasy leagues.
I’m in a couple ESPN leagues, works better than the NFL leagues in my opinion.
Yeah I’ve always done espn. If you want to be in another league I can send you an invite. Just send your email to [email protected]
And the invite goes to anyone else who wants to join. I’m looking for 6 more to get a 12 team league but I will settle for 10.
Sounds good. As soon as I figure out what email is being used by ESPN I’ll hit you up!
20 of them, at the time I type this…
So did OUI crash or get hacked? I was looking at post over there and when I tried to go back to the topics page… I got some weird search page or something
WHO?
OU Insider
it was a little joke there, Sooner, but thank you nonetheless! It obviously wasn’t too funny, LOL
Well, since there are only about 12 people left on that board, I could understand it not being known to you. LOL
That’s the truth. That site went down the crapper in a hurry after the switch.
Never mind… after 27 tries, it is now back up
And now it is back down again. Is anyone else having trouble getting to the site?
I will be astonished if the Shannon news is.”good news,” if by that you mean any thing that indicates a move toward him playing this season. Maybe I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it happening, or even close to happening. I wonder if his atty might be announcing that he’s not gonna fight in court. Dunno. We’ll find out soon…
I have a feeling it won’t be good news. Since there has been no ruling (that I’ve heard of anyway) from TOSC concerning OU’s challenge of the district judge’s injunction, then the injunction is still in place. Which means we are now little more than 24 hours from kickoff, Shannon is LEGALLY/ TECHNICALLY eligible… and yet OU is punishing him anyway. So I would bet this is going to his attorney’s first shot across the bow of OU and Admiral Boren. She already sent up a warning flare with her “if the university makes one more public statement about this case, I’ll move to have the records opened regarding the the title ix hearing” comment.
As well she should. They can’t disparage a man never convicted of this act by trying him in the court of public attention whilst attempting to prejudice or taint the jury pool with statements that are completely unproven, and may be false.
I honestly am not expecting any good news. Seems like February was the last time we received substantial good news. If it was good news it would have been a court hearing being dismissed or anything like that. But the school has said they won’t play him while this is on going. I just don’t want the situation to get any worse unfortunately it appears to me this is gonna be “even worse”
hmmmm
RE: Shannon’s attorney’s statement
If it were good news, Shannon is allowed to play this year, OU’d hold the press conference. Don’t expect anything positive
RE: Promotion
People like the site. OU football is not releasing a lot of information right now. INFORMATION, NOT opinion, is what is making this site popular. The site has gotten to the point that self-promotion isn’t necessary. By sticking to developing good content, the site will grow.
The specific self-promotion that was done was ham-handed but true and therefore harmless.
Jordan; Thank you for what you do!!!! Much appreciated!!!
Man, these final hours of waiting are brutal! I always hate the later kickoff for opening game too…experienced more than one of these with a bit too many beers by game time!
BOOMER!!
And this one’s for whatever’s about to go down…
haters always gonna hate — we love what you do here!
BOOMER!!
A stadium wide chant of “PLAY FRANK SHANNON” should happen at the game tomorrow. It’s disgusting and shameful that Boren can’t see what he’s doing to the University, and the future of it’s football program.
That would be a great chant by all nearby every time Boren shows his face.
The Roman general turned Senator Scipio Africanus used to end all of his speeches with “…. And Carthage must be destroyed”. Did that for I beleive a little more than a decade until Carthage was destroyed, it’s people scattered, the city dismantled and salt plowed into the soil. Maybe a new ending to my posts “…. And Shannon should play!”.
Me like very much.
Any update on the Frank Shannon presser

Thanks
He’ll be suited up on the sideline ready to play in silent protest. He is being wronged, and a pretty substantial amount of damage is being done to both his reputation, and the reputation of OU.
His Attorney says she believes that they have violated his right to due process and ignored evidence that shows that there is no factual basis behind any charges against him. She says he intends to fight, and even if he has to stand beside the field in silent protest against his treatment by OU, he will be there every game.
And in the mean time he is paying legal fees. Face it all, he was going to be found guilty no matter what the evidence suggested.
I bet OU will paying the legal fees when the dust settles
And they should IMO.
definitely
Amen. I did not know until listening to the press conference that his attorney had him take a polygraph test among other things before she would even consider his case. His attorney reminds me of a female pit bull with a litter of pups-don’t mess with them (client) or the mommy!
I’m all for them making sure female athletes have the same opportunities that male athletes have but this judge and jury stuff without giving someone their basic rights under the law has got to stop.
I have expressed on here before my feelings about Title IX hearings. I believe that they are unconstitutional and strip student athletes of rights that they would enjoy anywhere else in society, and that are guaranteed by our constitution. They are wrong. They are government overreach at its worst, and they should be ended.
Totally agree.Pagan. The burden of proof should remain protected just as in a court of law. Either convict based on proof or close it out. Frank wouldn’t pursue this if he was guilty.
I’ve said it all along, it’s extra-legal and foul. Not a single person on that committee which empowered to judge a person’s action illegal (which title XI is law) is elected or held accountable to the public. This is not unlike the admiralty courts that set off the American colonists- both included murky procedures, secret, and can act with impunity. If the university wanted to send a message it could have just suspended Shannon for “violation of team rules”. To give him his chance to give his side and then pull this crappola is disgusting.
Wow is all I can say. Ms. Timmens is pissed. But she being’s a good point. What if this girl was just mad and wasn’t aware of the exposure that it has received. Now a man has to clear his name. Honors list. That is so much loose behind a lie. Kids just don’t understand how powerful lie’s can be and so devastating. We know GOD know all.
Most screwed up political vs. law mess I’ve ever seen on the collegiate level. Title IX could ruin college athletics as we know it.
In it’s effort to prevent discrimination of female athletes, it has placed unfair and outright discrimination on males. That’s my opinion, not looking for any debates here.
Does anyone know if they’re releasing a 2014 “there’s only one” intro. Or is this the video for 2014?
http://youtu.be/0XHVFTtAYkw
Never mind that’s a video a fan made. I like the music
Someone posted an official but right now I can’t remember when or where…..it’s Friday night you know.
I could be wrong but I believe they will introduce the video for the first time tomorrow at the game a little before kickoff.
Thanks. I’m watching all the previous years to get even more pumped for tomorrow. Probably won’t sleep. It’s like the first day of school only way better.

“The eyes of texas have been blackened.”
That season did so much to heal the pain I felt in the years between Gibbs and Stoops. Right after the Championship game ended I ordered my game ball and not a day goes by that I don’t pause and look at it. Hoping to order another very soon.
I really miss hearing Bob Barry call these games…lots of times I would mute the t.v. and listen to Bob call the games, even if there was a time lag, I didn’t care. His voice made every game seem like an instant classic. He is right up there with Keith Jackson in my book. R.I.P., Mr. Barry…
I agree. He was the best, especially with Merv
Well, Frank Shannon’s attorney portrays Sooner staff and Admin as scum. Of course, we should all listen with critical ear, because we know that no profession is more highly regarded in our society than a lawyer.
Especially attorneys for a University tasked with taking away a young mans chance to play without even a hint of due process under the law. No crime, no charges, no victim. Would YOU like to be suspended for a year under the same circumstances, Oscar? The courts are where they have forced him to prove he’s innocent in a mockery of American and English common law where you are innocent until proven guilty- so the courts will be where he fights for his rights. Not through HIS choice- but through theirs! And I hope he wins.
An lawyer is a lawyer is a lawyer, no matter on what side of the fence they sit. Its called freedom of Association in Austrian Economics. If you freely decide to associate with a business, institution, or entity, you are subject to the constructs and rules and regulations because you exercised your free will to associate with them. You also have free choice to leave at any time if you so decide. Unlike the forced monopoly of gunverment.
I hope you are drinking a lot stronger stuff than myself because that was hard to read.
“If you freely decide to associate with a business, institution, or entity, you are subject to the constructs and rules and regulations because you exercised your free will to associate with them.”
Funny thing about this statement…the rules by which OU is operating its title IX program are illegal as a matter of law. I’d ask you to do some research, but that’s lawyer stuff. You wouldn’t be interested.
Thank you sir for not calling yourself “an lawyer” or mentioning the “gunverment”
You cannot be compelled to give up your right to due process.
Very good point Paganpink, but due process is only protected within government institutions, BUT, since OU is a State land grant university, it should probably apply.
Will there be a game day chat/thread of some sort tomorrow?
I asked Jordan about that the other day and he thought there would be a game thread. I was hoping to be a part of it but got an invite to watch the game and don’t know if I want to take an I pad along. I will jump into some post game thoughts if I get a chance.
That’s what I’m doing as well…food football beer music and who knows what else!
Party on Wayne…….party on Garth.
good idea
Yes, we’ll have a game thread up just like last year.
Thank you and TFB for making something we all love even better. You guys ROCK.
Man, I’m so ready for the game I can’t sleep. Lol
You’re not alone!
Watching UTSA vs Houston to pass time. Houston looks bad.
I’ve got UNLV vs Arizona but it’s making my eyes heavy. Tomorrow is gonna be a long day!
You got that right…
I work graveyard shift, so staying up late is no biggie for me…however, when OU plays a day game, it really sucks for me!
Last season during Bedlam I was lying in bed watching the game. Hadn’t had a wink of sleep (of course). When I saw Gilbert come down with what I thought was the game clinching INT, I shut the t.v. off and, in a fit of rage, jumped out of bed, walked into the living room and told my wife and son that I couldn’t sleep and that we should go finish our Christmas shopping. It wasn’t until hours later, after I had returned home, that I realized that OU had won!
I didn’t even watch the ending (live anyways), but it’s still one of the most memorable Bedlam wins for me.
Same here!
Sleep……. what’s that?
Great post TFB. I’ve got guys here in SEC country jealous of this site and wish their teams could have similar. Thanks again fellas!
It’s game day baby! About to hit the road for my 3 hr drive to Norman and make a day of it! BOOMER!
From okc? Lol
If y’all haven’t already, y’all should check out the scene setter that Toby Rowland did for the game tonight… Gave me chills!

THANK YOU JESUS!!
IT’S GAME DAY IN GOD’S COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOOMER!!!
SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!
IT’S FOOTBALL TIME IN OKLAHOMA!!! BOOMER SOONER!!
I think we still need to take soso if he wants to come to ou
Plano West defeated Mesquite 44-7. Top247 running back Soso Jamabo ran for 120 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries and caught two passes for 64 yards and another score.
I agree. Did he torch the high school that M. Jefferson and D. McNeal go to?
I don’t think so I tried to look their name up on that same story and didn’t see it. I think it might have been mesquite horn. They go to poteet in mesquite. So who knows.
They go to Poteet HS which is also in Mesquite but a diff HS
Thanks.
Live outside of Oklahoma. Any other way to watch the game other than PPV?
Find a very, very, very, VERY, sketchy link online somewhere??? lol, usually works, but comes with all sorts of junk! I’ve got same issue. Can listen on an tunein radio app, or other radio apps. Find 1430, or the Franchise 107.7
Is it legal for SportsBars to televise the game? Have to work until gametime.
I believe they can pay for it just like anyone else.
Should be a law that they HAVE to televise the games!
0 days to kickoff!! Not sure we have a number 0, so I’ll use our Silent Warrior today!!
Boomer Sooner!
PLAAAAY LIKE A CHAMPION TODAAAAY!!! REMIND THEM WHO WE ARE! BOOMER!
Been in Gods country since 6:30am. Tailgate set up by 7:00am. Thank The Lord game day is finally here!! BOOMER!!!
For 58 years I have looked forward to and have a deep love for OU football and game day Saturdays.
I’m ready!
The weekend got off to a good start with my high school team’s big win last night, 54-21, first opening night win in five years(thanks to a weak team and not the State finalists in those other first games).
Pork(St. Louie) ribs are rubbed and chilling, new dvr which surprised me with how much better the picture quality is over my old one, flat screen is clean, doors are locked, blinds down and curtains closed.
I feel good about tonight. If the Sooners protect the ball, don’t commit any penalties other than hustle penalties, no one gets hurt and mistakes are minimal, regardless of the score I will be a happy fan.
Enjoy year 58!!
Thank you, sir. I do believe I will.
My high school team lost in the state championship game in ’04(Ennis-Graham Harrell) and ’05(Highland Park-Matthew Stafford), just as the Sooners lost in two consecutive MNC games those same years. It’s time for the Mavs and the Sooners to win it all.
You looked a lot like Bud Wilkinson when you were younger. Anyone ever tell you that? I hope the Sooners have no injuries and hang half a hundred at half time!
Farniok’s brother just hurt his knee in the NDS-Iowa St. game.
Hate to see that.
360 minutes to go. Go Sooners!!!
Watching the replay of the Allen-Denton Guyer game.
Bobby Evans is absotively, posilutely legit.
So does anyone know how serious Cody Thomas is injured? Kind of crazy going into the game with no back up qb. So bell will play TE in the first half and qb in the second?
When did it happen?
Not sure there’s been rumblings for a couple weeks, with bell taking 2nd team snaps. Not sure what the injury is, they might need to burn the RS for Hansen. I think you can RS him next year
Pretty sure I read he practiced this week
Tfb tweeted that Thomas is out. Looks like Kendall Thompson made a tough decision. Hope he actually gets to play there at Utah because it looks like he would be the definite backup here with a qb who hasn’t stayed healthy in front of him. Although I think knight will stay healthy
Oh…lol…yeah I woulda missed that cause I don’t have twitter anymore lol thanks for the update Zack
With no updates and only one tweet saying “might be out” I will wait for further info before I believe it is true.
Dude’s on the Franchise 107.7 just talked about Thomas coming in to spell Knight.. is this not a live broadcast? or did they not get the memo TFB did?
its the Franchise tailgait show? but it almost sounds like it was broadcast earlier. Who knows!
Go WVU!
Heck yeah, they’re moving the ball well!
Can we just end the game now so I can be right with my bold prediction?
Ha, that would be one heck of a prediction if they do win.
So will all the alleged “experts” at espn admit they were full of cow scat when they declared Bama was the greatest team ever…EVAH with Coker at QB?
Doubt it, they will probably start a Heisman push for the new QB.
And Coker was the big reason why they were going to be special this year too. After all, he almost won the starting job against Jameis Winston!! The fact that that means he lost the starting gig seems completely lost on these football wizards. Just hilarious.
I think all the alleged “experts” at espn are in desperate need of a high colonic.
Lol…agreed.
NOOOOO! I cannot get a radio stream to work in Denver! they blackout radio now!!!?
