100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #28 Chanse Sylvie

The Path to Norman

The coaching staff was a big factor in Sylvie’s decision to join the Sooners. Offered along with some of his Louisiana high school teammates, Chanse made several trips to Norman. His relationship with Coach Cooks and Coach Viney, recently returned to the OU staff, ultimately won him over to OU.

TFB: Chanse Sylvie Commits

Sylvie ended up being a big force in the recruiting game for the Sooners, letting others know that they ought to join him in Norman. His ability to create relationships with players and staff is still showing today.

Career So Far

Chanse’s freshman season was one spent playing mainly on special teams; however, his playing time came in most of the Sooners’ games. In 2017, he played in every game of the year, providing valuable playing time when called upon.

Unfortunately, Sylvie sat out the 2018 season while recovering from an achilles injury and took it as a redshirt year. It was certainly a shame for him, as he had appeared to be on a path toward starting. He saw action in the Playoff game against Alabama.

2019 was a similar year to 2017; Sylvie played in almost all of the team’s games in a reserve role. He tried his hand all over the secondary.

Sylvie was very vocal this spring during COVID and social unrest; he made his voice heard while riots were going on and even put together a plan for reform.

2020 Season

Chanse Sylvie has experience all over the secondary at this point in his career. Despite his versatility, he hasn’t been able to find consistent minutes for the Sooners, with his health not helping in the matter. It will be tough to earn playing time this year, with lots of experience for the defensive backs. Sooner fans will be rooting for a good last year on campus for Sylvie.
