fwiw, Saban wasn’t the coach of Bama when Pat White was being recruited, So Alabama has been doing this a long time. Not to say Saban isn’t apart of that stuff, because he clearly is.
Yeah, I didn’t mean to imply he was associated with White, I was just meaning he knows that stuff goes on and if he says he doesn’t, he’s a damn liar.
The HS kid that threw all those pitches. What does his future look like? He going to college? Pro potential?
I understand how many players from a team/conference get drafted by the NFL matters to many, including the players. Not to me.
The morally bankrupt NFL organization ran me off years ago, the Michael Vick reinstatement ran off many others and have heard from some folks this week that the Michael Sam situation is running off even more.
What I care about is OU winning and competing for a MNC, while stomping a mud hole in the wHorns each year.
Considering how young the Sooners were this year, it shouldn’t come as a major shock that there were few available for the draft. I just hope we don’t lose a large number of third year players after next season.

I’ve soured over time regarding the NFL – they’ve soaked taxpayers for expensive stadiums for decades. No end in sight to the wretched excess. In contrast, Sooner Nation raises its own money for our stadium.
The NFL also claims official status as a non-profit. What a bunch of thieving liars.
I’m glad to see individual Sooners get a shot at big pro money in the sport they love, but that is strictly case-by-case, individual Sooners. I don’t care anymore in the least about the NFL as a league.
A concept of “Big XII performance in the draft” is not logical. At least on paper, we are still talking about a college league.
If major college football takes the next step to become a true “farm system” for the pros, then we could measure performance between college conferences on draft day. It would be a shame for the crooked, money-grubbing NFL to reach their slimy tentacles into our game.
Coming from a different era than most here, I was opposed to the AFL-NFL merger, opposed to the “parity” movement and opposed to unrestricted free agency with a salary cap. As far as all that goes, I even resent the draft, I think all players should be free agents.
Yeah, and the real news has escaped the censors about the Michael Sam thing. It was a manufactured p.r. stunt from the get-go. What a bunch of manure.
The NFL should have universal free agency, unless a player agrees to a long-term contract. Teams would put together a roster on an open market each summer – they’d change a lot every season – we all grew up picking teams everyday on the school playground. Same basic principal, just applied on a bigger stage.
Some one did a domain search and discovered Sam created his web site while he was still a student-athlete. His entire story and back story is a load of bovine excrement, designed to draw attention and cash in. I actually saw one espn reporter make the statement that Sam should be cut right now.
I know many don’t want to acknowledge it, but conference realingment has hurt the Big XII very much, and in turn will continue to hurt OU’s recruiting opportunities. Couple that with ESPN’s $2 billion SEC network and the constant marketing propaganda that today’s youth hear about day in and day out………it won’t be getting any easier in the years to come.
In 5 years or so there more than likely won’t be a big12. They should have tried to expand even with what many considered mediocre teams. But if tcu and wvu were good enough to add then so were Louisville and Pittsburgh. Syracuse and uconn were out there too. Would have helped big12 basketball a lot as well.
Anything other than what they did would have been considered trying to be proactive in my opinion. Allowing the big12 to lose the Conference title game will end up being a fatal move.
Exactly. All the teams were looking for a pay day and they get a bigger cut right now than they would if they had 12, 14, or 16 teams.
True dat….ESPN is the flagship station for everything sports related. We saw it during the Sugarbowl it was 90% Bama talk/excuses rather than OU playing well. They want to protect their product. It’s going to be tough to compete with because every football player in high school knows Sportscenter and not so much Fox Sports. It’s an uphill battle.
10-4. As a die hard Sooner fan, its a tough pill for me to swallow. However, as the years go by, I think we’ll see more and more athletes flock to the SEC because they are hearing over and over again that’s where the NFL talent comes from. These days high school athletes recieve constant, year round coverage. ESPN and others are involved in the recruiting game early on. They broadcast camps and other events that showcase these young athletes. The predominance of coverage the SEC recieves through ESPN gives a direct recruiting advantage to those teams…..not to mention the impact on national perception that influences polls and rankings in favor of the SEC. Like it or not, TAMU and Mizzou are already benefiting from the exposure ESPN brings to the SEC.

Also only one thing can beat the SEC, that’s winning. The Big 12 has to win their bowl games and non-conference games. The fact is OU’s victory over Bama saved the conference what little respect it had. While the Okie-State’s loss to the winner of the SEC East, Mizzou in addition to Big 12 Golden Child Baylor getting manhandled by UCF killed the reputation of the Big 12 on a national level.
