Heading into next Saturday’s Red/White game, one of the most easily identifiable points of interest was the chance to see Blake Bell in action at the tight end position for the first time. With practices closed and information from said practices on total lock down, there has been very little to go on regarding Bell’s transition to a new, and unfamiliar, position. Unfortunately, it appears as though we are going to have to wait a little longer.
We heard from a source Friday afternoon that Bell has suffered some type of knee injury, though at this time is not believed to be serious. Based on what we were told, he’s only expected to be out ‘several weeks’ which, if accurate, would obviously not put his availability for this coming season in any jeopardy.
Again, just to be perfectly clear, we have been told this is not believed to be a serious knee injury. We were not told any specifics as to the injury itself, therefore we will not speculate as to what it may or may not be.
While what little information that did leak out of practices was mostly positive, this news does somewhat put a damper on things with respect to Bell missing valuable practice time as he continues to learn the tight end position. Working in his favor however is the extensive knowledge he possesses from his time in the system as a quarterback. Thus from a mental perspective, this will likely have very little effect on his development. However, it’s the practice reps he is now likely to miss where this news really disappoints.
We will continue to work to confirm this through multiple sources however at this time we wanted to pass along what we have heard from an initial source.

Man I hate to hear that!! I was looking forward to watching him in the scrimmage!! Let’s hope it is just a minor injury and nothing major that could keep him from seeing the field this fall!!
We were told it is minor. Just a few weeks…max 6 weeks kind of thing. He was definitely progressing at the position throughout the spring and I wanted to see him. If Bell is indeed out though it’ll be fun to see Ijalana and McNamara
Isaac is freakin huge compared to the other guys (including Bell)
Really? Isaac is 6’5 250 and Blake is 6’6 265. So how does that work?
He is more toned…physically looks tough.
I guess the pic I seen was misleading…Isaac looked jacked compared to the others…I wasn’t looking at stats…I was looking at him…that’s how it worked
I am glad it is not serious, but this could be just as big of a blow. The kid needs all the reps and experience he can get at the TE position, if he is to succeed.
Fwiw he looked good blocking in Keith Ford and Hatari’s videos
Hopefully it isn’t too serious and he will be back full strength in fall camp.
Well, that sucks.
Regardless of if he played in the spring game or not we’re not going to get to see much. It’s going to be very watered down & vanilla. We’ll get to see how some of the new guys like Bond look and how some of the younger players are progressing, just don’t expect to see a tenth of what this team will look like in the fall
Spring games are for “pink” jerseys and hopeful players.
Pink jerseys?
Not my words exactly. A good friend of mine calls the blue jerseys pink because he thinks the QB’s should be treated like a RB when they pull it down and run in the spring game. Bothered him so much he won’t even go watch any more. SMH.
Lol! To each his own I guess.
You can also choose to think of the pink jerseys as players who are on the borderline of redshirting… (which is how I read it, even though that’s not what Ray meant)
He is on crutches, so I seriously doubt he plays in the spring game. Like Super K said don’t think it’s anything that will make him miss the season.
Thanks for the note Jason! Didn’t know he was on crutches bud.
On crutches with brace and wrapped left knee
Murdoch is pretty much saying he broke the Bell news on twitter. In my opinion he’s not fond of Jordan or this site. I always disliked that prick!
It’s all good. As long as the fans get the info we don’t mind anyone claiming anything :). By the way Steve, thanks for the heads up on Tyreik!
No problem. I know y’all don’t care but I do when it’s an arrogant little b#$*h like Murdoch!
Gray?
@Perroni247: Top247 RB Tyreik Gray โ@TyreikGray: Top Five: Kansas, Louisville, Oklahoma, Baylor and UofHโ
Yes he has OU in his top 5.
Oh ok cool. I like him any chance his favorite player is demarco?
Everybody’s favorite player is Demarco…next to A.D., that is.
Carey Murdoch is like the guy who thought he was the $hit, only to have some newbie show him up so bad his mom had to get him a prayer cloth. I love it. Let him claim his victories. We know what’s up.
The only thing Murdick has ever broke open is a pack of Oreos, extra gravy.
“Scoop Murdick.” Only because of his repeated trips through the Braum’s drive-through.
I talked with him today during practice. He said he got leg whipped and will be ok…he said he will miss the rest of spring…he said 5-6 weeks.
Thanks for the info Mike! We heard 6 weeks as well bud ๐
Mike, be prepared for the “banhammer”. You have now divulged pertinent information, and therefore must pay the price.
I’m just kidding, of course.
You talked to a player during practice? But your name isn’t Carey, so how is that possible?
Coaches clinic I’m assuming
This is how I’ll address what happened last night.
We’re here for the people. The people’s champ if you will (I’m assuming The Rock is cool w/ me borrowing that).
Never have been and never will be afraid of a fight. But I’m also smart enough to know whether or not it’s a fight worth having.
So long as the people know who had this first (as it would appear they do based on my Twitter mentions), then that’s good enough for me.
Funny, older I get, the more ways I look to avoid a fight…. (Had a damn good time when I was younger though!!)
No Bilakay? dang.
