We will use this post to add updates on today’s jr. day. Here are a few of a few starting notes:
– Malik Jefferson (Mesquite, TX) was scheduled to be in Norman, but earlier in the week he let us know that those plans were in jeopardy due to a commitment his father had. Yesterday he confirmed that he will not be able to make it to the OU jr. day. Most are considering the star LB a Texas A&M lean.
– Star DL, Kahlil McKenzie (Concord, CA) is scheduled to be at the jr. day.
– Also, WR Ryan Newsome (Aledo, TX) confirmed earlier in the week that he would be at the jr. day. He seemed very excited about attending.
– TCU commit PJ Mbanasor (Pflugerville, TX) is scheduled to be at today’s jr. day.
– Another TCU commit, DE Breylin Mitchell (Round Rock, TX), told us earlier in the week that he would be attending the jr. day.
– WR John Humphrey (League City, TX) tweeted out yesterday that he will be attendance.
– Also, according to Damon Sayles, LB Anthony Wheeler (Dallas, TX) will be at today’s Oklahoma jr. day.
– UPDATE (8:34 am): Forgot to mention that safety Keivon Ramsey (Converse, TX) confirmed he will also be at OU’s jr. day and tweeted out just this morning that he has arrived.
– UPDATE (10:17 am): Several more names to add – OU commit Jamile Johnson, DB Prentice McKinney, and DE/OLB Marvin Terry. OU also bringing in kicker Drew Galitz (Rowlett, TX).
– UPDATE (10:26 am): It’s also worth mentioning that the Sooners are hosting a 2014 (yes, 2014) recruit this weekend as well. Long-snapper Wesley Horky out of Brentwood, TN. He was originally committed to Tennessee and was going to be a preferred walk-on. But Jay Boulware has apparently offered him a scholarship at OU, which led him to reconsider his commitment and take an official visit to Norman this weekend.
It is entirely possible he could wind up committing this weekend (or shortly thereafter) and the Sooners could make a late addition to their 2014 class.
I know, I know….a long-snapper, woo-hoo. But the kid was an Under Armour All-American and is considered one of the best in the country at what he does. Anyone else remember how valuable a special teams weapon James Winchester was as a long-snapper a couple years back?
– UPDATE (10:36 am): Also as reader Gary Robbins pointed out in the comments, the basketball program is hosting 2015 6’5″ shooting guard Austin Grandstaff this weekend on an official visit. Grandstaff Top 50 player nationally and was previously committed to Oklahoma State.

This is going to be a great year and class for OU football
Also are any commits going to be here today to try and recruit?
I believe Evans will be there
I hope the OG from Lawton commits too!
Don’t think he can make it..hope for a commit at the spring game
I’ve heard he couldn’t make it(was here on Feb. junior day. So far the grapevine has Jalin Barnett, Will Sunderland, Chris Warren III, and Breidon Fehoke due in for Spring game. Subject to change as usual.
Unfortunately, Barnett won’t be there this weekend.
others that I have heard about:
Jamile Johnson, Dallas,Tx. (commit)
Bobby Henry Moore, Ok.
J.R. Hensley, Edmond, Ok
Prentice McKinney, Dallas, Tx
Josh Moore, Olathe, Ks.
Austin Grandstaff (unofficial visit) high 4 star. Ok. State decommit, Rivals #32 SG 6-5/190… Yeah you guessed it-it’s basketball.(rockwall, Tx.)
A ton of prospects from Texas.
Is the deep snapper that OU is looking at for the 2014 class going to be in today?
He is, Ed. I added a note about him above in the post.
Thanks Jordan.
Sure hope we get some new verbals today.
Hoping for at least 2 new commits before next Tuesday.
Something is happening in OU recruiting. It’s plainly obvious.
Can you figure out what it is?
Mike is back…real swag + young guys like Monty Bend and Boulware
It must be the water in Norman. Some more good news.
Toby Weathersby, dt, Houston, Tx. OU in top 3
Ross Donelly, dt, Cypress, Tx. OU in top 5
Desean Holmes, wr, Pasadena, Ca. OU in top 2
Soso Jamabo, rb Plano, Tx. OU in top3
Ronald Jones II, rb, McKinney, Tx. OU and Baylor leading at present
Probably still leading for Barnett and Sunderland out of Oklahoma
Love this from Cale Gundy:
Only 1 college football team has won all of these:
Orange Bowl 2001
BCS National title 2001
Rose Bowl 2002
Fiesta Bowl 2010
Sugar 2013
Plus I might add:
5 Heisman Trophy winners
7 National Championships
44 Conference Championships
153 All Americans
We’re not exactly chopped liver!!!!!
Hopefully we at least get a couple of them to give a verbal. Make up for last Jr day.
It would be great to pick up newsome or Humphrey this weekend. Lock up a slot receiver or 2. Then they could finally offer dahu. I watched his film last night and ofadile’s. They look more equal than the ratings would suggest.
Call me a pessimist, but I don’t expect any commitments out of this weekend.
Has anyone seen any tape on the OLB Anthony Wheeler that’s visiting this weekend?
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/770609/highlights/55655375
Thanks for the link. His pursuit & instincts look great.
I think he’s gonna be projected as a d-end
Seen him on hudl, solid looking kid. Think it will be tough getting him out of tehas.
Is Mike Mitchell (2013 Ohio State signee/transfer) in town this weekend?
Wow, not that I’ve heard but that would be pretty damn awesome if true.
Are you just asking to ask? Or have you heard something?
On the Ou rivals sight Josh M.wrote ” might not be done for 2014″.
The picture looks like Mike Mitchell in his Under Armor helmet. Just wondering…don’t have subscription…
It’s most likely the long-snapper that’s visiting today.
Probably since he was also chosen for the Under Armor game and he was due for an official this weekend
Ahhhh, I follow. Yeah, that’s the long-snapper kid. Like Ray said.
Wishful thinking! His father has some kind of illness and is transferring closer to home which is Plano Texas.Great site by the way!
I know a few Ohio State football players. I know a guy who will be the starting center for the suckeyes this year. And he said Mitchell is good sideline to sideline, but is light in the arse, and doesnt do well when meeting someone heads up. He said even with the suckeyes shorthanded and young at lb, he wouldnt have made the 2 deep.
Jalin Barnett?
Not going to be there this weekend, unfortunately.
Hmm ok I heard a rumor he would commit today. Guess not.
I think there was some thought that would be a possibility when it was believed he might be there, but those plans changed and he’s not gonna make this wknd.
Long snapper? Is Trevor’s brother Connor not that good? I thought that was something that he did.
It is, but this is OU. Even at long-snapper you’re gonna have some competition.
I like competition, I guess just a little surprised we’d offer a scholly if Knight was any good at all. Good point in how valuable Winchester was. Was James on scholly? do you know?
Same, re: the scholarship offer. Evidently Boulware really likes the kid b/c I can’t assume it was easy to sell Bob on that. They obviously feel like they have the numbers where it won’t be an issue either this year or in the next couple.
cool, thanks Jordan. I’m really glad I followed you to this site. You do an amazing job.
Appreciate you saying so. Appreciate even more you following to here.
Saw film on Horky super accurate and can get the ball back there Quick! It was actually kind of fun and entertaining to watch, you don’t get to see long snapper film very often.
Couple other notes that aren’t Junior Day related per se.
Last night OU commit Josh Wariboko picked up offers from Texas, Arkansas & Louisville.
Also, JY’s No. 2 Sooners 2015 OT target, Connor Lanfear, committed to Texas A&M last night. The flip from Texas to the Aggies was pretty much expected, but it’s just another sign of just how much A&M is dominating not just Oklahoma, but Texas as well in recruiting right now.
Those d&mn aggies!
Yeah makes me mad. They lose Connor Lanfear who was asoft Texas commit and Malik Jefferson who was a Texas lean has shifted to Tex. A&M now. I guess everyone knows that Texas is allowing alcohol beverages for their Spring sports. Some kind of test to see if it might work for their football games. Now we’re seeing the reason why.
Something you’ve probably read. http://www.collegefootball.com/story?id=10328143
I knew I had read somewhere that a no conference championship game might bite us in the butt. Please refer to the 2nd question about criteria! What is your take about a conference championship game. The whole article is interesting. I’m afraid this 13 person committee is going to become a big cluster f— on Dec. 6th and 7th. Sooner Ray if you are still around I need your suggestions. I’ve always told the wife no alcohol would touch this lips before, 30 minutes and counting, but the above article is disturbing. IMO
Beer……it’s not just for breakfast anymore!
Tried that darn website 3 times. Getting close to noon time. No backslide yet. If you get a chance read the whole question and answer on the above website. Under Jordan Esco-third times a charm.
Read the article, didn’t see anything new that I hadn’t heard before. They mention conference champions, not championship games, so I don’t think that part will affect us. One thing we can say is that to win our conference, we have to play everyone in it. Some other conferences can’t say that. Not saying that fills any criteria, it’s just a nice fact. Well, my clock say’s 12:05, bottoms up!
You’re right, just hop our conference is super strong from top to bottom. Still don’t like the idea that someone with a 12-1 record and a conference Championship game win could beat us out if we had a 11-1 record with a conference championship. Just hope 12-1 vs 11-1 doesn’t affect their thinking. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a room where 13 people could agree anyway. Just win out because you know the conference championship games will eliminate one team. Just got back from my “Gary’s Ghetto” aka man cave, wife say’s a cave full of junk. I was out of beer-don’t remember that last night. Lol It’s full of treausures.
IMO, a one loss B12 team will never go above a one loss sec and maybe B10 or pac. It’s not right but these people will watch the national sports media and we all know who they spend all their time talking about. That’s my biggest fear, sports channel influence.
Yeah the ESecN channel. I did read where the Big12/Sec were teamed up vs the Pac 12/Big10 on trying to decide on how the bowl games were to be constructed. The Big12/Sec won out
Do you have a link to that article?
I will find it tonight, hopefully. I didn’t write it down at the time.
Totally agree Sooner Ray. OU will have a high pre-season ranking next season so that will certainly help, but if there are any close games (such as our scores last season against TCU & West Virginia early on) it would hurt us. This is basically a beauty contest to the selection committee & the media plays a big role in it.
It really isn’t!
Third times charm…. Here is the correct website
http://www.collegefootballplayoff.com/story?id=10328143
Try this one!!!
They sure have pulled in a lot of POTENTIAL talent over the last three recruiting cycles. But as awesome as Manziel was/is they sure struggled in the SEC. Unless the talent around the QB steps up in a big way they may lucky to be 6-5 next season.
https://twitter.com/NewBoi17/status/439809963192360960
2015 OL Abdul Beecham (Converse, TX) also at OU’s Junior Day.
This is NOT him committing though, just fyi.
https://twitter.com/TweetsByBeech_/status/439808419214553088
https://twitter.com/AustinGstaff1/status/439812545595973632
so AG is committing to OU? or just visiting?
Visiting
What Ray said (at least for now).
I know he’s also visiting Florida next weekend. Obviously Florida has a great b-ball program so hopefully Kruger makes a good impression this weekend.
Wouldn’t hurt our chances if we beat the Longhorns today!
https://twitter.com/OU_CoachB/status/439814766781943808
My parents live in Rockwall, both went to Rockwall High. I saw Grandstaff play last season & he’s the real deal. Would love for him to come to OU.
I would too. I read somewhere that he put up 51 points the other night.
https://twitter.com/JohnHumphreyJr_/status/439816768043761664
Great looking family, seem to be enjoying themselves-Important. This kid is fast had a 4.25 listed.
Class of 2018, 2022 and 2028 in waiting! LOL! I love it!
Adorable kids!
https://twitter.com/JohnHumphreyJr_/status/439822016447643648
Should always work hard on guys that have younger brothers. Build for the future!
Jordan, thanks for the great pictures and posts. I was hoping for 2 commits by next Tuesday, but not so much now. I do believe Barnett and Sunderland are waiting for Spring game and I understand why.
https://twitter.com/BigBallin28/status/439837445794693121
Thatz a Big OL’ Boy that looks AWESOME in a Sooners Jersey! I hope we get him he would probably be a great recruiter!!!!!!
He’s a self-professed longtime OU fan, so you’d have to think that only helps our chances. But he’s also not in a hurry to make a decision, so a commitment likely wouldn’t come for some time.
I’m patient! SOMETIMES! LOL!
He is also a Tennessee legacy. Hopefully he makes it in for that game in Norman.
He is huge, tree trunks for arms. I’m sure the coaches are making him aware of the 7 National championships and 153 All-Americans and him being on board to accept our next awards.
Tennessee hasn’t been relevant in a while but if they can get something going this season then I can see where a home state guy could get excited about playing there.
A scholly on a long snapper? Conner Knight was doing just fine.
I don’t think Connor has played a down. Austin Woods had served in that role and served very well. He will be missed.
Correction, his roster page says he played in five games with no details. I still believe Woods handled all long snaps this past season.
My iPad didn’t show enough of the comment section in which you posted your correction. I noticed it after I added more comments– I didn’t want to come across as a sea lawyer.
Not at all. And I’m not certain he never snapped, just don’t recall anyone but big ol’#50 in front of Feo.
No he appeared in some games last season most of this after the midway point. He was listed as a long snapper on the punting unit and I’m pretty sure that where he saw some action.
We’re going to have a b-ball game thread up here in a bit as well if anyone is interested in taking part.
When do you think we will see a college football playoff thread Jordan?
How do you mean?
Just a breakdown of the selection committee and what if any impact it might have on the B12 not having championship game etc….
We can work on that.
Thx Jordan! Think alot of people here would really enjoy that information.

The TX kicker OU has on campus today.

How does late signing work with the case of the long snapper? Seeing as to the fact that the kid was going to walk on at Tenn, are they free from their LOI because they are walk-ons? Do walkons even sign LOIs?
If any 2014 recruit is still available, it’s only b/c they didn’t sign their NLI. With a walk-on, I’m just assuming it’d be about them signing their financial aid paperwork.
That kid that left Notre Dame for UCLA set some kind of precedent. I think the rules go along the lines if the recruit does not register for classes then the LOI is rendered almost moot. not sure about that idea as it would seem that coaches would still be recruiting past the LOI date. But I am pretty sure that the case with that UCLA situation set an awkward precedent.
Walk-ons do not sign anything. The LOI/NLI is a contract between the SA and the school, that outlines the provision of financial aid to the tune of the scholarship the SA is receiving. Thus, since a walk-on is not receiving scholarship assistance, they do not sign.
Thanks for the explanation ts.

I hope we can locki this guy down! I DON”T miss the inconsistant kicking game we had for a few years there! This guy could take over for Hunnicut next year!
Are the football recruits at the UT/OU game right now?
I think so we need to finish with a win and show these kids were better than texas at everything
Everything except for vegan hippies. UT always wins that.
They can keep that trophy!
Ryan Aber posted below. Large group of Junior Day recruits just entered LNC with J. Montgomery and Tim Kish and Cale Gundy was waiting
Didn’t see that, thanks for the update. Hope they like what they’re seeing.
Sounds like fans were chanting McKenzie’s name at the b-ball game.
I didn’t hear it on tv, but also had my volume down. Heard it happened tho and that he LOVED it.
That’s awesome! Hope they made all the visitors feel good (and I don’t mean the whorns)
Texass Sucks!!!! They should chant that!
I did hear that one, multiple times.
He was in awe when that happened and really loved every aspect of the trip. We are the clear leaders at this point
https://twitter.com/BigBallin28/status/439900517494308864
D&mn these guys are big. sure they’re only Juniors?
In the event you haven’t seen it Hambone put up a 2013 Oklahoma Sooners Highlight video. It is nicely done in 1080p with some clips never before seen and some familiar highlights taken from different angles.
http://youtu.be/6H1Fe5eNnmg
Had to go watch it Tex, awesome video! Those things just never get old. It’s just like he said, the future is bright at Oklahoma!
Indeed it is.
Loved that shot of Kasitati celebrating with his Mom.
I agree. It was my favorite part. That was pretty moving to see.
Did anyone else see Jerry Montgomery at the bball game at the end of halftime when the television announcers were talkin, u could see him and it looked like a player on his right and 2 recruits on his left think Kahlil was 1 of them. U could see Jerry clowing around behind the 2 announcers heads
Wesley Horky had committed and signed his ship tonight. Per 247
Must be one hell of a long snapper.
Indeed!
Is this for the 14 class?
Yes it is
https://twitter.com/wesleyhorky/status/439956521556779008/photo/1
BOOM!
I’ve always said I don’t know why more guys don’t try to perfect this craft of Long Snapping. This kid is now getting a first class education at OU and a possibility of a pro carreer! They don’t make a ton of money but they play forever! Congrats to him and Welcome! BOOMer!
Watched a video on Wesley, he does have some zip on his snap. Looked like he was throwing bullets overhand and very accurate.
YESSIR!!! Welcome new 2014 committ, Wesley Horky
