A few notes to start an open post:
– Have confirmed that safety Marvell Tell out of Encino, California has been offered by Oklahoma
– Also, confirmed (or re-confirmed since we originally reported it a few weeks back) that Ryan Newsome (Aledo, TX) will indeed be at Oklahoma’s Jr. day this weekend. He said he is “excited!”
– Also, confirmed that CB PJ Mbanasor (Pflugerville, TX) is set to go for his visit to Norman this weekend. I am hearing rumblings that the departure of Coach Jennings from TCU was a big blow and his commitment to the Horned Frogs is not nearly as firm as it was a couple weeks ago.
– Of course, as we first reported early this morning sophomore cornerback LJ Moore has left the team. A source told us “seemed like he didn’t have his focus in the right place.” Whatever the reasons, we wish LJ the best of luck in the future!
– I (Super K) just returned from a trip to Florida where I had a chance to visit some ball players a friend of mine down in Miami knows well. So I’ll try to give you some notes about that trip throughout the week. The first will be a post about Torrance Gibson (Plantation, FL). I’m friends with one of his coaches, so I had a chance to speak to him (my friend) and Gibson while I was down there.
– Also, wanted to post that CB Jaylon Lane out of Nacogdoches, Texas picked up his first offer from Louisiana Tech today. I mention that for a couple reasons. The first being that we’ve been watching his film lately and are big fans. It’s rare to see a corner that big (he’s 6’1.5″) close that quickly. His break/drive on the ball and his ball skills are exceptional. Big corners like that usually feel a little clunky and can’t move in every direction, but on film his start and stop looks elite. I also mention him because he has heard a little from Mike Stoops. So don’t be surprised to see Oklahoma get involved with Jaylon at some point.

I really like PJ, so let’s hope he’s not considering Arkansas now. Hopefully Stoops and Co. make some serious headway this weekend.
We do as well bud. Rare size, speed and feet combo. And he comes from a track family.
Just wondering. In 2014 OU had 4 high school recruits from California, 2 from Arizona, 1 from Utah, plus Bond and Ijalana from California junior colleges. Zero from Florida. Is this a trend? How about a rumor-OU headed to the Pac 12. Nah, just kidding, hope we can bring in some Florida athletes in 2015. Looking forward to your reports this week. Maybe the TFB motto should be try the rest then come to us for the best!!!
I’ll be interested to see the notes on Gibson everyone is saying he’s the real deal. I still don’t think he will leave the state of Florida.
Hopefully Perine is working PJ hard for us, and good news about Newsome.
Gibson is talking up an OU visit recently. He’s not looking to decide by July like most QBs? Will OU stay in this QB race?
OU has a better chance than OU thinks they have.

Is Gibson not turned off at the fact that the Sooners have Sophomore Starting QB and 2 Highly recruited Freshman on Campus. If not I got to love the competitive spirit of that kid!
No doubt. OU doesn’t take a back seat to anybody recruiting QB’s and RB’s. Huep and Cale do a great job evaluating, targeting and getting who they want at their respective positions.
Gibson is going to be tough draw but would be great. More excited about PJ Mbanasor. Great size speed and athleticism at a position OU always needs to have great players! Lane might be another Big Corner as well!
I agree on Gibson but the coaches need to capitalize on the momentum from the sugar bowl and if they can run the table through the regular season I think they might draw interest from the big recruits all the way until signing day. I think stidham is more likely for OU I mean his film I’ve seen looks like a continuation of Hansen.
Beat down of Texass would help too. If Strong doesn’t turn things around soon and in a big way then OU would start getting more of the players that once went to the shortwhorns.
U might be surprised Doobie. OU hangs with the best when it comes to getting single callers. Doesn’t hurt that OU has two past Heisman winners in the last 10 years and one in the league.

Would love to be suprised for sure! The only thing I was looking at is that our QB situation appears good and if TK starts next season the way he played in the Sugar Bowl then Gibson will be looking at a Junior QB with 2 Highly Recruited QB’s waiting in the wings. Recruits as highly touted as Gibson like to have the shot to play early. Cody Thomas situation was a little different. His Dad said he had been a OU fan since he was little and our QB situation was a lot murkier when he commited. But I’m all in on Gibson if he wants to be a Sooner.
My best guess is that’s Ripkowski, but from behind it’s hard to tell.

Man there will be some Johnny stud dogs on the field that night. I really like Jamabo. Look at his twitter pic with Stoops on OU’s first Jr. day. He’s a good looking sucker.
I envision Torrance Gibson having the same media attention, hype, & drama that Adoree’ Jackson had this past class. Especially drama between all the Florida schools, Ohio State, Auburn, yada yada yada. Not a knock on him at all…that’s just what happens with the ultra elite prospects.
I hope he visits OU and sees that he could be dynamic in our offense. I’m really looking forward to Super K’s interview with him & his thoughts on OU’s chances. He’s a big fish in the recruiting pond, that’s for sure.
Good thoughts Leroy. Huep wont miss around with it. If he thinks he cant get his guy he will move on. That is why I think OU is in the money with this kid. Huep and OU wouldn’t be wasting their time recruiting a QB if they didn’t think they had a shot to get him IMO.

That kid is impressive considering his age. Good genes, elite coaching and live arm.
Kid seems to have it all, including a highlight video from the 8th grade. How things have changed.
No doubt. Sick isn’t it. Hudl being web based has been a God send. The days of mtg half way to trade film is over. Also making Highlight film for Mom’s who all think their kid is a D1 athlete has gotten a ton easier then Coach Com and DSV systems.
Now if HUDL would just join the rest of the world and use utube or vimeo instead of Silverlight…sheesh.

Gary I’m totally clueless on the who’s who of Jr, day visitor’s. I do know this Gary that Jordo, Super K and TFG’s will be all over it with pictures and all. TFB’s did a great job last Jr, day coverage. Jordo is a machine posting twitter pics of Jr. Day.
what is the exercise “coach’s stations” that players talk about on twitter?
Can’t say for sure what they’re meaning on twitter but I know what it meant years ago. There are too many players to all share the same equipment so each group of machines or workout areas were called stations, each manned by a different coach. Players were divided into groups and assigned to a starting point. You worked your butt off getting pushed to the limit by the coach until a whistle blew. Your group then moved to the next station and coach until you have made it through the entire room. Very intense with little to no rest between stations.
Pretty much. Timed stations and the kids rotate through them. We call it County Fair. Basically come up with torture stations the kids rotate through.
Relating to the subject of recruiting classes, I was cruising scout.com the other night and realized that of the 20 signees from the recruiting class of 2011 (Kendall Thompson’s class) only six players are still on the OU roster. There were a few that never got to OU, the same # that have medical reasons for not playing any longer and the rest for discipline reasons or whatnot.
That is interesting Blaster, I knew we ran short but didn’t realize it was that many. I’ve heard people speculate that it was just a bad run of luck on kids and I’ve also heard there were coaches who just didn’t relate well with players. Regardless of what happened, I hope that has all been worked out.
That was the class that had its share of bad apples in it too. It was also a class that just had bad luck with career ending injuries. I agree with you that the ship seems to be righted, didn’t hear anyone speak of the bad vibe like they did a few years back.
