100 Days to Football Time in Oklahoma: #33 Ryan Jones

The Path to Norman

Offered by the Sooners back in the Summer of 2015, the North Carolina product is a versatile player. After playing both defensive back and receiver in high school, Jones was recruited by the Sooners as a safety. Jones was committed to North Carolina for several months but reopened his recruitment in the fall of 2016. January of 2017, Ryan made it to Norman for a visit and that was all it took.

Career So Far

2017 was a redshirt season for Jones. He was shifted from safety to linebacker last summer. Shortly after, TFB started to hear excellent things about the talented player. One source said, “Ryan Jones has that twitch that none of the other linebackers have.” Although he ended up redshirting, the praise continued this year. Playing at the SAM spot, Jones has received a lot of the reps with the starters. Further praise came about his play:

I was told Jones is raw, but learning fast. Once he polishes things up, source believes he will be a really good player going forward. Source said the athleticism on the defense, especially at the LB and DB positions, is something the Sooners haven’t had in a long time. TFB Open Post: March 27th

Other praise like “superior athlete” and “difference maker” have been thrown out as well; overall, nothing but good things have been said about the North Carolina player.
