– Leon O’Neal: The Sooners big win over Ohio State is getting the attention of a lot of recruits. I spoke with someone close to 2018 TAMU DB commit, Leon O’Neal who tells me that O’Neal has a renewed sense of interest in the Sooners.
Part of that interest seems to be rooted in what OU is doing and part of that is the instability at TAMU. I am told that O’Neal will take an official visit to OU however no word yet on exactly when that will happen. I am also told that Clemson is the other team to watch.
However, here is the question. Will the Sooners have a spot? With Edwards, Turner-Yell, Austin, Fields and Baldwin already committed the numbers are looking tight. And the Sooners could add a DB as early as this weekend… – (Super K)
– Kalon Gervin: Last month we reported that 2018 DB, Kalon Gervin (Detroit, MI) would take a official visit to Oklahoma for the Tulane game.
The visit is still scheduled for this weekend and while Gervin has told us that he’d still like to take some visits, we have gotten the sense from a couple sources that if Gervin likes what he sees, he could pull the trigger this weekend.
Part of that is due to the fact that the numbers at defensive back are getting pretty tight so the Sooners have some room to push. – (Super K)
– More on Defensive Backs: With five defensive backs committed the Sooners are still in pursuit of Gervin along with Jaiden Woodbey who I now expect to take an official visit to OU at some point this season. I’m told the Sooners are still also recruiting CJ Smith (West Palm Beach, FL) who is expected to visit OU in October. I’m told that you can throw Leon O’Neal into that mix as well, assuming he reaches out to the OU staff soon enough.
As you can see the numbers do look tight so don’t be surprised if one or two of the current commits end up signing elsewhere. And the Sooner staff wouldn’t be heartbroken over the matter. – (Super K)
– Bobby Tre Brown: As Alex King first reported yesterday, 2018 DT, Bobby Tre Brown (Arlington, TX). Alex offered up some thoughts on why he thinks the Sooners could ultimately be the choice for Brown.
Brown still plans on making a final announcement in early November so we are about a month a half away. Last I spoke with Brown it was clear he was focused on four schools in OU, Alabama, Texas and TAMU. My sense is this is a battle between OU and Alabama and like Alex, I’m starting to think OU could win this one.
I checked with a source on the OU side and I’m told that they are really uncertain about where they stand, “he’s hard to read right now”. At one point the Sooners seemed pretty confident. But I don’t think the change has anything to do with the Sooners losing favor, I think Brown is just getting better and better at not sharing information.
Again, there’s still a little over a month and a half left in this battle and Brown still hasn’t taken his official visit to OU. Last I spoke with Brown he wanted to take officials to OU (which will happen this weekend), Alabama and possibly FSU. He will take regional unofficial visits. Again, very interesting to see that the Sooners are not only an early official visit but appear to be the only regional school he is using an official visit on. Also, our sources indicate FSU is not a threat. – (Super K)
– Merlin Robertson: As we also mentioned last month, the Sooners will host 2018 LB, Merlin Robertson (Gardena, CA).
The Sooners are going to need to hit this one way out of the park. Even our sources on the OU side of this one believe this is going to be a tough one to win. We’ll find out more after the visit. – (Super K)
We hope to get a complete visitor list up later today.
– Ads Free Donor Section: We know many of you have complained about the ads on the site as well as the Disqus commenting platform. We are working on creating a “donor” section which will be ads free and have an upgraded commenting section that’s easier to use and follow. The main site will remain the same but for a minimum monthly donation you’ll get access to a better platform. We will continue to upgrade the “donor” experience, add weekly chats there, build out a mobile friendly site, etc. and with the support we will be able to ensure that the site continues to develop for everyone. We want TFB to continue to be free so we’ve decided to employ a donor model like that of a football program. Everyone gets to see the game but the donor experience is enhanced. More on this later but we wanted to give everyone a heads up. – (TFB)
– UPDATE (Friday, 9:27 am): Got word that Sooners DB commit, Miguel Edwards who was expected to take his official visit this weekend has postponed his visit due to the effects of last week’s Florida hurricane. Edwards is now expected to visit for the Iowa State game.
Also a team note we left out earlier, Robert Barnes is expected to be out for another week or two with a hamstring issue.
