BOOM NEWS: 2018 QB Cameron Rising Commits To Oklahoma

After what could only be described as an incredibly successful visit a couple weeks ago, and the subsequent quotes about said visit that followed, it almost seemed as though it was a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’ Cameron Rising (Newbury Park, CA) committed to Oklahoma. And the 2018 signal-caller did just that Sunday afternoon making things official with an announcement on this Twitter account, as the ‘left coast’ continues to be good to the Sooners.

As TFB had talked about previously, with both Rising and Casey Thompson — an OU legacy, the younger brother of former Sooners QB Kendal Thompson and son of Charles Thompson — sitting atop Oklahoma’s QB board there seemed to be a bit of a perceived sense of urgency between the two to grab their spot while it was still available. Clearly Rising jumped first and, as such, becomes the third member of OU’s 2018 recruiting class joining OL Brey Walker & DB Jordon Austin.

It will be interesting to see how this affects Thompson’s recruiting situation as one would have to think, with the way things currently stand for OU at the quarterback position, the Sooners don’t have room to take two QBs in this 2018 class.

But this day should be about Rising, who many believe has a legit chance to be the No. 1 QB prospect in the country for 2018. On film, Rising has just about everything OU would be looking for in a quarterback. He has the size to stand in the pocket and deliver with a big arm capable of making pretty much every throw. But it’s his ability to make plays outside the pocket, with his legs, that really puts him over the top as a prospect.

Rising looks to be an absolute perfect fit for Lincoln Riley’s offense and along with the aforementioned Walker, another possible five-star recruit who could be the No. 1 guy at his respective position, the Sooners have two ‘bell cow’ commits that will be a big selling point as the coaches continue to move forward with this 2018 class.

Because if the whole #SoonerSquad17 has shown us anything, it’s that great players want to play with other great players.
