– Team Notes: Next Monday will mark the start of the final week of summer workouts. Following that the team will have a little time off before heading back for the start (Thursday, Aug. 4th) of fall camp.
So we were thinking now seems like as good a time as any to go over some of the notes we’ve collected on the team thus far.
Gabriel Campbell – You may recall TFB’s report from a couple weeks ago regarding redshirt freshman DE Gabriel Campbell and the expectation that he planned to leave the program. You may also recall this photo DL coach Calvin Thibodeaux in which Campbell was not pictured. His absence wasn’t a coincidence, though his reasons behind possibly leaving the program at the time were not those “typical” of many players who wind up transferring.
Evidently, Campbell has long held an interest in the military. And when TFB reported his plans to leave the program, it was Campbell’s intention to follow that interest and join the armed forces.
However after having some more time to speak with his family and those close to him about his decision, Campbell has now decided to hold off on those plans and remain with the football program.
Caleb Kelly – We’ve mentioned Kelly several times now in previous summer updates, but we continue to get the sense he is very much being groomed for a chance at immediate playing time this fall. Now he’ll clearly need to carry over his performance this summer to fall camp, but it’s pretty clear the staff has pinpointed him as a guy they want to make sure is ready to go from the jump. His athleticism at a position of need would be invaluable for the Sooners, especially against some of the bigger sets they are likely to face at times this season.
Freshmen Cornerbacks – I was hoping to bring you all some information on Parrish Cobb, Parnell Motley & Jordan Parker from the team’s Wednesday 7-on-7 session, but I was told that some of the freshmen were going through testing so it doesn’t sound like they participated. Generally speaking, though, it’s very difficult for freshmen to make an impact, but all three of these guys are talented guys so at the very least they should push those in front of them.
In the case of Cobb, TFB has been told the staff was excited to get him not only for his cover ability, but as a potential return guy as well. As you know, the need for those capable of returning both kicks and punts went up considerably after the loss of Alex Ross and John Humphrey during the spring.
Neville Gallimore – Last year Gallimore was really getting a full taste of what college football conditioning is like. Of course every incoming freshman goes through that same transition, but given the quality of the programs in Texas and Oklahoma that transition can be a little easier for guys from those areas. Coming from Canada like Gallimore did, and being a bigger guy who didn’t even really start playing with his hand in the dirt until his junior year, it was a significant step up in terms of the physical demands asked of him.
That said, to very little surprise TFB has been told the past year has done wonders for Gallimore from a physical standpoint. Last year he had difficulty even finishing workouts, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. In our estimation, Gallimore is an important piece to enhancing the true talent on this OU defensive line. Like Charles Walker before him, Gallimore has the upside most others could only hope for.
Christian Daimler – As many of you know, back-up RT Christian Daimler posted a picture on Instagram a week or so ago after having foot surgery. It isn’t necessarily considered to be a big deal and while the source we spoke with wasn’t 100% sure, they did say the expectation is that Daimler could be out “about six weeks.”
Bobby Evans – With Daimler expected to miss at least some, if not most, of fall camp, it presents the possibility of some depth issues on the right side of the o-line. To that point, TFB has been told that redshirt freshman Bobby Evans may wind up flipping from LT, where he was backing up Orlando Brown, to the right side. And Evans would then be backed up by redshirt sophomore Quinn Mittermeier.
Dwayne Orso-Bacchus – You may recall Orso-Bacchus moving from the DL to OL during bowl prep last year, and then taking his first real snaps at OT during the Red/White game this spring. Now it sounds as though with Evans possibly moving to RT, Osro-Bacchus could be sliding over to LT to back up Brown. Which shouldn’t really come as a huge surprise given Orso-Bacchus’ length and athleticism, many have long believed his ceiling (and future earning potential) at OT was much higher than that of a DT.
We spoke with someone earlier this week who indicated that in terms of agility and movement, Orso-Bacchus is probably the best true athlete among the best offensive linemen. The hope is he’s putting in the effort to really get stronger and learn the position in case he is needed at any point during the season.
Ahmad Thomas & Steven Parker – Not a whole lot on these two. One source mentioned that compared to last summer, Thomas is just a lot more comfortable in general. That same person noted Thomas still struggles in 1-on-1’s but that’s never been, nor will it likely ever be, his strong suit. But I think we all saw that in the quarters coverages OU employed last season, Thomas not having to cover as much out in space allowed him to show off some of his ball skills.
As for Parker, he’s a star. Nothing new there.
Michiah Quick – As noted here previously, we continue to hear Quick has done an excellent job making the transition to corner. In fact we spoke with someone this week who noted that Quick really has an advantage at CB, in that he understands the offense and can read what’s happening pretty quickly. However, this source also noted that Quick is going to need some work in polishing his mechanics and, of course, learning the techniques within the calls. But again, the Sooners need as many guys as possible to push Dakota Austin and create some intense competition while also developing some depth at cornerback.
Jordan Thomas – Thought one TFB source put it the best with regards to Thomas, “he’s just a natural.” Thomas isn’t the guy who’s going to get the extra work in on a consistent basis. He’s not even necessarily the guy who will test the best. But you put him out on the field, and he simply knows how to play the game.
And just to reiterate what TFB had reported previously, we’ve heard from multiple sources now the expectation as it stands today is that Thomas will be available for the season opener against Houston. – (Super K)
– #SoonerSquad17 | The Opening: A friend of TFB was kind of enough to share a couple pictures from The Opening that we thought you all might enjoy.
From L to R: Jalen Reagor, Tre Brown, Levi Draper, Robert Barnes, Trajan Bandy, Grant Calcaterra
From L to R: Grant Calcaterra, Levi Draper, Robert Barnes, Justin Broiles, Jalen Reagor, Chris Robison
Grant Calcaterra – One person we spoke with coming out of The Opening compared Calcaterra to Dallas Cowboys great Jason Witten. This person said Calcaterra was basically impossible to defend. And his person is a former player themselves, and a damn good one, so this wasn’t just empty praise for Calcaterra.
Robert Barnes and Jeffrey Okudah – Was told that Okudah spent most of his time with the #SS17 and, in particular, Barnes specifically.
TFB’s Take: This could be a special class for Oklahoma. It’s not just about talent so much as it being about that fraternity and willingness to do the right thing both on and off the field for your teammates. If you look at the guys pictured above, almost all of them are local guys who do a lot of extra work off the field. If you put them all together, the likely outcome is that they’ll only make each other work that much harder.
OU has the good fortune now of having quarterback stability for the foreseeable future. Potentially two more years, including this coming season, with Baker Mayfield plus Austin Kendall, Kyler Murray & Chris Robison also in the fold. That is a big, and very important, piece of the puzzle.
Another important piece is having that team chemistry, and specifically a player led team, that ensures the players are demanding the best from one another. The Sooners could certainly be in the hunt not only this year, but if they can keep what they’ve got brewing in recruiting going, I think they’ll have a special team for several years to come – (Super K)
– UPDATE (11:25 am): Apologies, meant to include this in the original OP. 2017 DE Ondario Robinson (Hutto, TX) put out a Top 4 on Wednesday night that included, among others, Oklahoma.
Interviews after 11 AM tomorrow! Thank you and God bless! pic.twitter.com/zhCBlodNUy

We’re hoping to have more from Robinson soon, but wanted to include this now for those who may not have been aware.

BOOM!!!! Have a great day Sooners!!!
Sooner.
Holy smoke, great OP! Thank you, gentlemen!
Dammmmmm,BOOMER!!!!!
SOONER!!!
Thanks for the info guys. Very good OP
Holy s***!
Thanks TFB!!
What a great OP – Glad to see that Campbell is sticking it out…I think he has great potential!
Pleasant surprise and wise decision. Life in the military as an officer will be better than as a grunt.
You can say that again.
At my age, the only thing better than this OP would be sex. Great job Super K!
Wow, all this great info for FREE-Ninety Nine!! Super K is putting in the work.
I blame you, TFB, for any and all work production decrease today
—————————
Literally the only thing missing is an update on Bandy – I can’t believe he went from infatuated with OU to a commit…to now he’s more than likely flipping to Miami.
Something isn’t quite adding up…Maybe he knows OU is likely to get Okudah?
Where are you getting that he is “more than likely flipping”?
Every other OU site…and Bandy wearing a Miami bracelet at The Opening
I don’t put much weight in “the other sites” as they are there for the money. Until TFB states he’s wavering, I consider it “click-bait”.
Internet speculation, hopefully. Seems like a good kid and a great prospect.
If him wavering is true then he really changed his mind fast. There was an interview with him just a few weeks ago talking about his visit to OU was like a dream. He couldn’t even believe it, and you could tell it was very genuine. Again things can change but if they did it was really really fast.
I did hear someone actually say the guy to watch on the flip was Broiles. I have not looked but heard that his twitter was OU 24/7 until two weeks ago and now he has really slowed down. Again I have not looked to verify but I just what I heard.
FWIW, I commented on yesterday’s OP about a tweet that Broiles had sent out later that evening. An OU fan asked him why he didn’t have anything related to OU in his twitter bio, Broiles responded with, “Don’t worry boss I’m TOOOOOOOO CONCRETE with OU”
Beautiful. Sorry I missed it. Thanks man.
No problem, just wanted to make sure you left with some good news on him.
That’s good to hear. It wouldn’t surprise me if someone finds a hidden negative meaning to the number of oooo’s in toooooooo.
Today’s OP and your comment made it all sunshine and rainbows at TFB. Been a great day to be a brainiac.
Okudah shouldn’t be a problem to Bandy since they play different positions …more likely its ‘hometown’ pressure to attend Uof M and/or the distance from Miami to Norman (1500+ mi)
Ever been to Miami? Its like owning a boat the best parts are the day you bought it (got there) and the day you sold it (left).
Yes, I’ve been to Miami Fla and agree with your assessment of the city.
SD why aren’t we getting any DTs now?
several underclassmen ( OVerton, Lampkin, Wade ) …………..
Hey Jordan, one edit. It says, “this was just empty praise.” You meant to write this wasn’t. Great OP though. Love to hear about the work being put in and the stand outs.
yes, thank you!
My goodness that was a nice read. Really hope we can keep that ’17 class together, and even add to it. Do that, have a nice season, and get another nice class in ’18, and I think we’ll be in a better position to make some noise in the Playoff than we have been in the recent past. Fun time to be a Sooners fan for sure.
Great news on all fronts.Wonder whom the player is commenting on Grant.
Im guessing it was Deon Sanders.
That was my thoughts as well.
Sounded like Deon Sanders..
This OP is too deep! Now I know why you are called SUPER K!! Thank you.
So any chance Campbell pushes for playing time this year?
Great OP and many thanks to TFB.
Best quote ” Calcaterra was basically impossible to defend”
After recent updates to the OU Football roster, Gallimore is now listed at 305. He was listed at 320 after spring roster updates. There are a lot of interesting weight changes: Baxter – 175, Samia – 305, Anderson – 220….
Awesome – I know TFB usually does a piece where they compare and give comment. Will they do it again?????
It would be great if they did; there have been a lot of changes. Mead is now listed at 200, up from 187 in spring!
That is a much better weight for his frame!!
No doubt! Best news I’ve heard today.
I like seeing that.. Was definitely something he needed to work on along with run blocking which imo was what kept him off the field more than anything
I like seeing that.. Was definitely something he needed to work on along with run blocking which imo was what kept him off the field more than anything
6’5″ & 200 pounds will be scary for most DB’s.
Brown, ford, alvarez, samia, evans
6’4.5 320lbs average matches the nfl average oline.
I like it, lets open the lanes for our future nfl backs
That’s right. Clear the road for the special delivery of touchdowns.
Where are you getting from? Thanks in advance.

One of the best OP’s I’ve ever read. Many, many thanks Super K!!!
I agree. This is like the War and Peace of OPs.
Great OP! Thanks for the hard work keeping us updated during this LONG off-season!
Lots of good info here. Things are looking good.
Great OP and nice and early, Greatly appreciated. Boomer Sooner!
I’m extremely excited to watch Gallimore and Lampkin on the line this year. Tay Evans is another I’m intrigued with. He is a massive kid.
Yeah. High hopes for Gallimore and Lampkin, too. Hope Greg and Marvin ain’t skeered off by those guys.
Actually Gallimore and Lampkin should be 2 years ahead. Its the perfect situation for Greg and Marvin to walk into. Should be a big recruiting selling point for the coaches.
There shouldn’t be any reason for them to be. They’re monsters in their own respect. Plus we’re losing at least 4 linemen after this year on the Dline.
Gallimore has intrigued me from day one. Lampkin has too, but to a somewhat lessor degree.
I agree, but the videos I’ve watched on Lampkin are just ridiculous. He just absolutely destroys the OL in those videos. e.g. shoving linemen 10 feet backwards.
Yep. He looks legit. Hope they can contribute this season.
Lampkins vid was one of the best that Ive seen of any DL ever.
This is going to be a nasty DL.
Totally agree, Sam.
So I didn’t oversell it this morning on Twitter, right?
Nope, great stuff
Hell no!!!!!!!!!!
Metzimus Maximus!!!
FOOTBALL Morning hOU!
And speaking of FOOTBALL …. REAL FOOTBALL begins Aug 4th!! Mark it!!
We were buyers all along. No over selling this OP.
At this point you could not oversell what they ate for dinner.
Overselling an OP be like overselling Food, Water, Liberty and Life itself!
Great stuff!
No, Jordan, you didn’t. Great news about Campbell, too.
Are any of you guys getting a feel re: whether or not Bandy stays committed?
My gut feeling is that he will stay with OU.
Absolute click bait!!! /s
Oh, you a funny man. Seriously tho Jordan, best OP in minutes if not hours.
Oh, you a funny man. Seriously tho Jordan, best OP in minutes if not hours.
Thanks K for the great info
Oh man. Early OP w/ lots of meat like steak and eggs for breakfast. And the word ‘fraternity’ is bang on for SoonerSquad17, not in the sense of exclusivity, but brotherhood. Robert Barnes and Levi Draper seem to be the heart and soul. Hope Bandy is still feeling it.
My gut feeling is that Bandy will be a Sooner. I know he loves Miami but if you look at his tweets, they are about being overlooked because of size. OU did not overlook Bandy, they offered. I think that will win out at the end of the day.
Very true Sam , hopefully Ahmad Thomas talks to him to help out with anything.
I see former OU DBs reaching out to him now and then.
That’s good to hear.
Yeah, Ahmad Thomas has reached out to him within the last few days. They seem to be fairly close.
I think Bandy will bring a lot to the team. Hope he sticks.
Nice report guys!
Absolutely ridiculous! Love what each of the SS17 boys are bringing and the comaraderie as a group. I didn’t realize Barnes was so tall.
And Draper, too. Lot of room for some good weight once Mr. Schmity and Ms Tiff get hold of them.
I’ve always thought Draper didn’t pass the eye-test for a LB. Not saying he’s not a tremendous player, I think he’ll be a stud, but looks a little on the thin side. Calmus was never bulked up either though.
He will come to OU at 230 and he’s put this weight on the right way. By the time he finishes OU, he will be 245 easy.
I’ve always thought Draper didn’t pass the eye-test for a LB. Not saying he’s not a tremendous player, I think he’ll be a stud, but looks a little on the thin side. Calmus was never bulked up either though.
I always forget about Ms Tiff , that was a great hire from Coach Stoops.
and he’s bigger than Draper! I think Draper needs to put on some weight!
Saw Draper at the opening and he is 6’4 225 now and yes, he looks slim but there is no fat on that kid. Stud. Barnes is 6’2 and his dad is a little taller so I’m curious is he is still growing. Barnes is a baller.
And how small Bandy looks next to them. Kid must be a spark plug to get the kind of recognition that he’s getting.
He (Bandy) is also technically supposed to be a 2018 player. He bumped up a grade when he was young. His father played for Auburn so the pedigree is there.
FYI, Jordan just posted an article about the Big 12 Preseason poll. Some team called OU is at the top
I’m now gonna be a “TFB lifer”, for sure. Thanks K and JE for connecting us to the current and developing state of the OU program.
There’s truly nothing or no one out there better!
All kinds of good news…like Campbell sticking around. Had high hopes for the guy so maybe he gives it a chance and realizes his potential.
So whats the story on Tramonda Moore is this guy really available for 17′ (Grades) anyone know??
All I know is that Tramonda retweeted my tweet as follows: “Come on over to Norman Tramonda, & keep the most lopsided intrastate rivalry in the country alive!”
Today’s update should have strong considerations for the OP of the Month. Well done!
I agree! Reading this OP was a perfect way to start the day!
That’s an honourable decisions Gabriel Campbell considered–though I am glad he reconsidered.
There may yet be time to join the military after college. Right now, better to stay and get his degree.
Or, he could choose to look into ROTC. Since he’s already in college, and OU has a ROTC program for all 4 branches (or did when I went there), he could probably gain his commission upon graduation.
Thanks for the OP.
Have to hand it to Fine Palmburn for confronting Saban the Garden Gnome about his lame excuses for not punishing the players found with drugs and illegal weapons. I realy hope we get a chance to bury Bama again in the playoffs or bowl game this season.
He’s an angry elf
….
I got nothing Woof!
Not buying it. Need (cheryl?) turning head and rolling eyes.
This——–
never showed.
Well it would appear that we cant post giffs anymore! It showed and then gone.
yup. the PC righteous stops all. Sigh.
Looks like they have won,Not good!Maybe it was the llamas for sd.Or that really rude naked roo pic.
I am not seeing them anymore, you think this is true?
I guess when i posted it ,it showed then when i hit f5 its gone, same as when i signed off yesterday.
tough crowd today… Maybe this one works better.
Still nothing!
Until Saban bowed up and he stopped like the others.
Easily one of the best OPs , TFB you guys have built such a great community here and hands down the best source for OU football & recruiting so thank you for everything you guys have done. It’s music to my ears to hear about the brotherhood and the bond from the SS17. I love this team and love this university. The family atmosphere here at OU Is amazing , the love between the coaches and the players here is just amazing. This season will be a special one Sooner Nation.
Thank you Scott!
Curious – the talk of Quick pushing Dakota Austin, but not PJ being pushed or doing the pushing. Anything new there to report? Odd to me PJ was not mentioned.
They said that he has just come back from a minor foot issue. That may or may not be the reason as to why he was not mentioned.
Thanks!
You’re welcome.
You’re welcome.
Beginning to get fired up! Second post in two days. 🙂
OP is awesome per usual, this one even more so.
Anyone else notice that we made the top 4 last night with Ondario Robinson?
man that’s good news to hear about Gabriel Campbell sticking around!
This really is one of the best OP’s we’ve had in a few weeks. Excellent job on this one K!!
I know they typically use an offensive player, but is there any reason we shouldnt expect Quick to still be in the hunt for PR even though he’s playing CB? I’m weary of giving that up t a true freshman (Cobb)
I think the reason he moved to CB is that his hands aren’t the best (that’s usually why a guy goes from WR to DB). If that is true, then no way he gets used at PR. That is A#1 priority for Stoops.
I’m thinking we’ll see Westbrook….sure hands….and a fair catch. I hope I’m wrong. I don’t mind Westbrook returning, just hope I’m wrong about the fair catch. The coaches seem to like the best hands back receiving punts and I’m not sure Quick has them.
Mayfield mentioned Brooks as a KO return man to replace Ross. I wouldn’t mind seeing that along with Anderson.
I like Brooks shiftiness, I’d just be concerned about his size and getting lit up on a KO return. I do think Anderson would fit well though. We shall see.
He’s 190 now on 5’8, that’s not to shabby.
Brooks is 190? #WOW That wouldn’t be too bad then, I’m just not sure I believe he’s 190. That would be awesome if he is, because I think he’s a tremendous weapon if we could utilize him.
Dude has burners.
also, @J@jordanesco:disqus I believe the roster’s have been upgraded and I always enjoy yur roster breakdwns if you have the time 🙂
check the front page 🙂

Jodan – Has TFB instituted rules for the site? GIF ? Memes? no longer tolerated? Please advise so the Mods dont Ban Hammer those of us plying humor.
https://m.popkey.co/7cb214/OoOW9.gif
the ones i posted below were equally appropriate as this. They vanished as did Metz’s. What gives?
Were not worthy!
or we are on a TFB terrorist watch list.
lmao !!!!!!!!!
Not sure about yours but Ive noticed Metz’ gifs not popping up for me right away, even after I refresh.
Mine started not showing end of day yesterday, thought i might have done to many sd llamas.
lol way too many llmas.
Maybe we were hacked by the Llama Liberation League.
Not Triple L! Were screwed now.
Classic,Bob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PETA is after your a$$.
People Eating Tasty Animals? Why would they care, he’s not suggesting we eat them.
It’s about ethical treatment of said animals in reply to SD. The poor llamas don’t deserve that kind of treatment to be linked to a creature such as SD.
People don’t seem to like GIFS/pics of scantily clad ladies and/or an overwhelming amount of GIFs in general, but other than than I can’t really recall any specific complaints.
I would suggest using common sense and if for whatever reason that fails, I’ll bet someone will be sure to point it out 🙂
Thanks for the reply.
i try 🙂
We have been behaving very nice right?
very much so, at least as far as I’m concerned
Thanks1
Maybe you could ask him to reply to my ?
Not sure that would help,lol.
Jordan, a quick?. In last weekends OP I had a comment that said it needed to be approved by the Mod’s, there was one cuss word that I had put asterisks in as to not offend anyone. However my comment was deleted, what gives? I have always tried to be Mr. Love your SOONERS know matter what kinda guy. Was just curious as to what happened. I mean if i am not wanted on this site just say the word And I will LURK forever. Thanks in advance…….
You are wanted,me,maybe not so much, but its ok.
Metz, FOOTBALL, I guess some get responses from him and some don’t. But hey either way “It is another great day to be a SOONER” Shout out to #SS17 and #ST18
Indeed it is sir!
Good stuff K as usual. I’ll take back what I said about Andrew/Gabriel outworking you. J/K lol
yep I was really glad to hear about Gabriel sticking around. I’ve asked about which blocking scheme the Sooners will be using but I’m curious as to which you prefer. Do you think gap schemes or zone schemes work better?
I prefer zone schemes personally, especially against aggressive defenses and I like our ability on the edges to wash people people out creating cutback lanes.
gotcha. Yeah Perine’s ability to hit cutbacks with his size and power is just unfair.
Thanks KJ…and thanks for the great notes you post
This OP is legit… Thanks fellas!!
this might be stupid but on the roster they have Andrews listed as WR. That’s fine for roster purposes but when it comes to awards, he may not even be eligible for the Mackey award for best TE because of that. That’s what happened with Amaro at Tech a few years ago when he had a huge season. Hope it doesn’t hurt Andrews.
Ask and you shall receive: https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-summer-roster-updates
Thanks Jordan
Thanks, Jordan.
It’s football season, now, fellas. It’s starting rain OU football news.
I have always had an issue with Ahmad , he in my opinion has always been the eak link in the secondary . I know he made some picks last year ,but not sure one of the Fr . couldn’t have made some of those picks playing center field like that . Thomas has improved his tackling ,but seems to get confused and is not that fluid . I see he is making a lot of all big12 teams ths preseason . If he has improved that much than we are in for a treat this year on defense .
I totally agree with you. I think our secondary would be even better if we put Haughton or Sunderland back there. Just seems to me that Thomas is slow and not good in coverage at all. He’s a damn good tackler though.
The Sooners transitioned to a lot more quarters concepts in the secondary mid-season last year which gave him less ground to cover so I think that really helped him a lot.
in other roster news Brown is down to 340, that’s great for him! Alvarez is up to 308, biggest *full-time* center we’ve had under Stoops? Dimon up to 275? not bad. Will Johnson up to 190? Man that is a huge secondary. Obo up to 245, Hulk down to 240. Man I love pretty much everything I’m seeing on there.
brown is a beast, hoping a takes a big step this year. I know the coaches are loyal to certain guys sometimes but dimon should be a back up we have better talent now
Yes I absolutely, 100% agree with this statement. I have been thinking the same thing all summer. With all due respect to Matt Dimon, 275 just isn’t what we need starting on that line. Could still be an integral part of the rotation though.
I expect Neville or Lampkin to start at some point during the season.
Crazy QB depth for sure. I would be like…no more walk-ons…this is who we ride with.
yeah no kidding. I really hope Kyler helps the Stoops bros figure out how to defend running QB’s better.
heres the rumors lately…
bandy-word is he will be flipping to miami-seems like 50/50 at this point
broiles-not sure why people are saying he’s wavering, i don’t see it??
hines- all of a sudden texsa really feeling good about landing him-why??
marvin wilson- texsa feeling good about him too, i don’t think we get him but i hope he doesn’t go to texas
greg rogers- usc is feeling good about landing him, need to get him to norman asap- its looking good for usc right now
ondario robinson- we made his top 4 but not sure we take him if we r in on bigger names
I mentioned down below that Broiles appears to still be all OU. A lot of people have been wondering why he doesn’t have anything related to OU in his twitter bio. Well yesterday an OU fan tweeted him and asked why this was the case. Broiles responded with, “Don’t worry boss I’m TOOOOOOO CONCRETE with OU”.
ya im not sure where it even started that he was wavering
LOL I am the guilty guy who tweeted him that haha
I just don’t see any way that we don’t get Hines. Nor do I see a situation where he goes to Texsa. Just my gut feeling, of course. T. Rob also feels like Hines is ours as well, so I will take his word for it.
seems like the hines to texas talk just started heating up…probably created by austin/texas recruiting media(hopefully)
Probably so.
Probably so.
Does he really want to face SS17 in dallas for 4 years straight??? He feels the bond and the luv between OUr guys. If anything it’s just talk. These elite guys want to go where they’re winning.
Hey, there, TRob.
I feel the same way as you. I think the production on the field will sway those on the fence to OU.
was hoping you would make an appearance. whats the word T rob
TRob has celebrity status.
him and Esco
Good to see you again TRob
TRob shows up and everyone jumps out of the woodwork. LOL!
You lurking, SW?
Yeah I have been, So busy with work haven’t had much time to comment. I’ve been reading though. Can’t stay away!
It’s like a drug.
Exactly, can’t get enough. I am so ready for the season to start. I think the itch is worse than previous years.
So do I, but I think I say that this time every year! lol
Yeah you might be right lol
I agree, he has a good bond with the 17s.
Im glad Gabe is staying. He was making an emotional decision based on recent events. However, I can never knock anyone for choosing to go defend our country.
+1000
Me either. He has gained a ton of respect from me.
<<o. ✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤✤:::::::!be187p:….,….
I’m not sure what the recent events are, but feeling the call to serve is always laudable. Of all the possible things I considered he might be going through, I have to say this one didn’t cross my mind. He sounds like an extremely impressive young man! Him staying can only make OU a better place and program.
He would get nothing but respect from this crowd….that goes double from me.
Agree. But I hope he seriously considers finishing his degree and then joining the officer training program.
Our list of Opening attendees have been really good since the beginning. I forgot that both Neville, Arthur and Dru were there at the same time, before that Frison was there, not bad.
yep, the difference this year being that they were committed to OU at the time of the Opening. I don’t OU has ever had more than one player committed to OU while they were at the Opening.
update added
Really great OP, awesome that campbell is staying.
With the strong performance of the younger guys on the OL last year, its easy to forget guys like bobby evans, who is very talented in his own right.
Future is bright gentleman!
Thank you!
This OP just made my week! To say there is a lot to be excited about both today and in the future would be a massive understatement! Good things!
Just saw Xavier McKinney decommitted from Bama.. He played with #Soonersquad17 at the opening, wondering if any of the brainiacs know if the Sooners could be in the mix as we are looking to fill a safety spot
he’s probably going to Georgia…they are putting together a good class down there
From Roswell just north of Atlanta…UGA bound most likely, maybe Auburn is a threat
he’s probably going to Georgia…they are putting together a good class down there
Nah, I love it!!
Baker Mayfield has that “thing”, the “it” factor that you either have or you don’t . he has been so huge for OU
I think Robison has it too!!!
Robison has some swag to him.
That’s exactly what I secretively call it, but I would never want to mistaken him as part of A&M!
Damn, TFB? How is a guy supposed to keep a job when you put out so much info that I have no time for work? Love all the info.
BOOMER!!!!

I’m sure Kouandjio had a pretty good bench press, didn’t help him much against Striker.
Dam , Kouandjio was predicted to be first round pick before that game haha.
haha!
Dam
There shouldn’t be any complaints about recruiting for the class of 17. These coaches have went and found great talent prospects with more importantly great personalities. We must remember there’s still 7 months to go. So to those complaing about the need on the O and D line remember where we were at this time last year. By the way, Baker predicted they will win it all this year.
T.Rob I’ve been at this long enough to know that if we signed a 5* at every position, someone would start to argue that one of them was overrated and wasn’t a REAL 5*. Whiners and complainers are going to whine and complain.
So very true my man. We are so far ahead of any other team in the big 12 for this class. After we win a national championship, then you can raise the expectations for us to beat out Bama and tOSU in recruiting. But let’s be real, they have won the Natty the last 2 years, so it’s only expected for the 5 stars to give them the their attention first. But no one will complain when were in that position next year.
T. Rob my man. Whatsup dude. How’s lil bro doing? Any updates on Hines, Okudah or Wilson. What does lil bro think our chances are with these guys? You coming to the first home game.
He already started talking smack about Ohio St and Texsa. ( He really wants to smack Texsa this year)
Hey TFB, can you tell me who the KR’s are
https://twitter.com/YahooForde/status/753647295799984128
That’s crazy
Which means they’ll announce his hiring within the next day or so. 🙂
Why would a coach like Herman take a team like Baylor? You are looking at a team that has the possibility of a death sentence if some major enough violations come out.
no clue..i believe baylor fans and media alike suffer from delusion
I don’t think the NCAA will hand out a death sentence in this day and age. SMU was the last right?
Can’t understand why Herman would be interested at this point, but he might be the one semi-realistic option that could get them back to the level they’ve been at the past few seasons.
Wow…WHY would he take that job when Stumblin is gonna be gone from aggy very soon
From a Scout board post: “The Tulsa World hired a new OU beat writer for the upcoming football season…He is Cody Stavehagen. He worked for the Stillwater newspaper and gopokes website..and is an OSU alum…Good luck with OU coverage from the Tulsa World…LOL”
well crap.
I saw J tweet something about that out a few days ago….another reason not to read Tulsa World.
The Jokelahoman makes the Tulsa World look like a real news site,………now this.
I guess the only constant is change.
Perfect timing! Tulsa World article title: “Former OU running back DeMonn Parker sentenced to 1 year in drug case” WhoTF is DeMonn Parker? LOL
http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/courts/former-ou-running-back-demonn-parker-sentenced-to-a-year/article_30b8b047-1797-5553-8f36-fc016c9b220e.html
Nothing will change. They were and always have been anti-OU. I like to call them the Tulsa Fish Wrap, but I stopped because it is a huge insult to all the fine fish brothern out there.
247 claims that both Robison and Calcaterra are 3*. What’s the Brainiacs opinion on these two future Sooners. Personally I’m so pissed I can’t see straight.
No way they are 3 stars.
Sam Bradford
I think those sites re-rank only 2 or 3 times a year. Not sure when the last time they did it. But it seems like they are only on top of the re-rankings when it comes to the top players.
I’m pretty sure that they re-did the rankings at 247 yesterday.
I claim that 247 is a 2* site, so there.
It’s 247, so nothing to sweat. If they really knew what they were doing, they’d be coaching.
I have never seen Robison less than 4 star on 247 and just looked and he still is same. He’s always been highly rated there.
As for calcaterra, he will always have a lower grade than his true ability due to the “tweener” label. I still think he will be 4 before its done though.
Busy day at TFB, thanks for all the info!
RE: Herman to Baylor. Either that is a huge bungle by an agent leaking something or wishful thinking by Baylor. Maybe an agent figures its never too early to start a bidding war between Houston and P5 programs?
Bailor and Houston trading coaches.
Recently moved back to OK from Colorado and have been enjoying this site the past few months. Kudos to the guys that run TFB…it is a daily read for me now. With that being said, most of my friends are OSU fans and are upset about Moore (the OL) recent tweets. I thought he was going JUCO? Am I missing something?
https://twitter.com/_TMOE55/status/753624248887840768
Sounds like a future Sooner.
Welcome to TFB!
He retweeted my tweet when I said “come on over to Norman & help keep alive the most lopsided intrastate rivalry in the country.”
Oh he’s definitely ours. Which is fine since I wanted him last year. I just knew his grades were the issue.
So how are his grades no longer an issue?
Inquiring minds want to know.
How the hell would I know? Lol. I’m just using context clues since he’s been all OU on Twitter as of late.
Thanks for reading!
Thanks for reading! Brandon has been checking on the situation with Tramonda.

Rogers said “SEE YA”
looks like a move Walker uses to beat opponents quite a bit
Damn it. We need DTs.
Waiting to get a haircut & made this while bored.
LOL
Come on, you gotta give them some credit for Joe’s and Hideaway…but yeah, thats about it.
Minus restaurants, all I can think of is Karsten Creek might need to be mentioned.
very true
Don’t forget the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum — they’re apparently quite proud of that.
Well when 67% of your nattys are in wrestling, pokes kinda have to really support that institution
Don’t forget the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum — they’re apparently quite proud of that.
Not sure I would brag about Joe’s personally. The one time I was there I thought it was mediocre by every definition of the word. Kind of like OSU.
I’ve seen that sign.
..
congrats on the gif!
You are a gif-less man. Stripped of your ability to post llamas and girly pics. What did you do to deserve this kryptonite?
Not sure ill try when i leave today! It sucks to be gifless.
You might try the Laugh In flying fickle finger of fate….
lmao
dude, We have lurkers that are cowards and wont admit the flag etc. Nothing I posted today was inflammatory, degrading or other.
For those of you that care, Gabriel just posted a good piece on how Devin the Duv can be used this year. Check it out, join the discussion. I’d love to get the OU perspective.
Who? What?
I think despite whether or not is route running is on point yet, his speed will give team fits for sure. Either in YAC or just flat out taking the top off.
Yes, a lot of speed from him and Davion Curtis will pressure the top of defenses.
Congrats on how yalls class is shaping up. I hope we get Hines, but I think despite the recent “to Austin” talk he is probably going to end up in Norman and we get Browning.
I don’t see y’all landing browning or Hines ( not be be an ass ). I guess I’m just rocking those Crimson shades. I’ve got Hines landing with us then browning to tOSU.
I think Browning is tight but apparently he and Sam and especially Malik did some bonding during the opening that I’m hoping moves the needle our way.
That certainly bodes well for y’all. But y’all have enough backers, share some with us :). Had we not landed Caleb last year then I think browning would be all ours, but I just don’t see immediate playing time for him with us. The kid is a physical specimen and whoever lands him will be getting a gem.
Yeah…Caleb was a big get for you guys-gonna be great I think. I’m most focused on Walker Little and Big Marv…but especially Little.
Marvin is in Austin an awful lot. I know K thinks LSU but Im thinking he ends up at UT. No inside info just going off the obvious.
Actually K has said that he thinks if we “win” a reasonable amount of games this year (8 or 9 which I think we can) that Marv likely stays in Texas because Texas was his childhood favorite.
He’s making another return trip to Austin for the Under the Lights camp on the 23rd.
I think you guys finish alot higher than projected.
Which sucks when we don’t have one DT over the last two years.
Jerry Montgomery…please come back!!!
Who isn’t? Lol. Two 5 stars at crucial positions. I don’t think big Marv chooses y’all simply because Texsa signed 56 defensive lineman last year. But Little would be huge for y’all. Your offensive line is so young and good already, it’s scary! Haja
I can definitely agree with that. I just think fine tuning his route running would make him next-level dangerous.
End around… bye..
SHHHHHH They might not figure that out.
Lol!, I went to see Chiefs vs Seahawks
My chiefs used the end around with DeAnthony Thomas to beat the seahawks.
We ran it 20+ times. Put DAT in motion.
Too fast for a DB to motion across the field with him.
LBs had a decision adjust to DAT and give leverage or stay.
If they stayed, off DAT goes..
If they moved “read” Jamaal backside or QB keeper.
They couldn’t stop it.
Won the game.
BTW: Thanks Philly for Andy Reid
I think DD is a stud. I just think ut will find a way to underutilize him like they have in recent years with highly coveted offensive stars. No offense, but I just don’t feel like Gilbert is going to change things around. Yea you guys got Shane but if I remember correctly, the hype you guys are bringing to SB is the same hype that was for Gilbert, Swoopes, and Heard. AKA they have all been the savior but none have led yall to the promise land. I just don’t see how a team that goes 5 and 7 will turn it around after 2 bad seasons to a 9-10 win season with the same coach. I feel like you guys have an awesome defense but its going to be tough for the offense to get in sync since it will be a totally new offense. I see ut going 6-6 or 7-5 and I would think that Strong may be out. Not trying to hate but I just think its incredibly hilarious that you guys’ fan base always brag about winning recruiting battles and being the so called best University in the nation but in reality have struggled to do anything major with all that so called talent. Please don’t say the ol’ ut excuse aka Mack Brown left us with crap because if it wasn’t for Brown and his recruiting magic ut wouldn’t of won its last NC. Boomer Sooner and goodluck to you guys.
I’ve posted this a few times the last few days for other reasons, but it can apply, in a much less significant way, to our fanbases as well I guess
A great man once said (he said it on Tuesday actually) “At times, it seems like the forces pulling us apart are stronger than the forces binding us together. Argument turns too easily into animosity. Disagreement escalates too quickly into dehumanization. Too often we judge other groups by their worst examples, while judging ourselves by our best intentions.”
All Horn fans don’t expect us to win a natty this year or that we really dominate everything.
Not trying to say all you guys think the same but everytime I go to ut message boards whether its the ut-tfb, Orangebloods and etc., the majority of ut fans are sunshine pumping fans that love to point out what Strong did at Louisville and ignore the fact that hes put up to bad seasons. I just really find it funny how majority of ut fans that I know and conversate with blame all of ut’s failures on Mack. I think Mack was an excellent recruiter and an average coach. But I don’t think that Strong is any better. Us real OU fans sit back and laugh when ut fans celebrate recruiting classes. Look I Want ut to be good again because I feel that with you guys’ struggles our conference has suffered badly but it is also awesome to see a fan base and a team go through this many struggles because as Cocky as yall are it makes for a good laugh haha
Saying “not trying to hate” and then being condescending regarding most all points you make—and here you say “Not trying to say all you guys think the same” and then follow it with “but its awesome to see a fan base and a team go through this many struggles because as Cocky as yall are it makes for a good laugh haha”
It’s like Ricky Bobby saying “with all due respect.”
I just really am trying to avoid the stereotyping stuff right now.
Anyway, back to the original content—with Dev I think everyone HOPES that we under utilize him as we have done a lot historically.
Me saying “its awesome to see a fan base and a team go through this many struggles because as Cocky as yall are it makes for a good laugh haha” isn’t me hating being condescending. Its just a fact. We see that you guys pump up any and everything to be the next great and when they fail and don’t end up to be that its funny to us brother. .
But, but, but…they win February every year!
Or we beat you in October and that’s all that matters lol that’s the difference between us and them IMO. They celebrate beating us because it was their super bowl while we celebrate yet another Big 12 Championip but also want more aka another National Championship so we aren’t satisfied. Am I Right?
100% right Mikey! BOOMER!
SOONER brother
Texas fans are like Oakland Raider and LA Laker fans…every year they think they are better than everyone else even when the record is 2-14 or 30 and 52…
HAHAHAHAHA so true Hunter
But, the Raiders ARE going to win it all this year!!!
Be nice, I’m a laker fan and I’m don’t believe foolish things like that! I’m actually Intrigued that the lakers have 4 young porospects and I’m anxious to see their development over the next several years lol b
Obama? LOL. He IS the force pulling us apart and belittling police. Time to wake up, brother.
However, I feel like we can plausibly win 7-8 and maybe even 9 games this year. I don’t expect Shane to be a savior. We have two beast running backs and a lot of talent at WR that will help him. The key with Shane is that he is a gritty, accurate passer—Gilbert had no grit (and EVERYONE in the NATION thought he could be their QB savior). Swoopes and Heard never were and will never be passers. At the end of the day they are all kids.
I never thought Knight or Bell were our saviors lol Shane hasn’t played a down yet and you are already building up. Makes for some fun future times honestly because we are all used to it with you guys. For God sakes if it wasn’t for OU this conference would be trash honestly. Look at the amount of National Championships and Conference Championships we have and it says it all. Collin Cowherd said it perfectly. ut Isn’t a Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC. and etc. It’s just a school that has a whole lot of money and uses having all that money to its advantage. Answer this question for me and we will see what kind of ut fan you are. When it comes to football, do you think ut is at the level that OU is all time? P.S. not trying to be rude or disrespectful I am just stating facts.
I think you guys have had more success than we have when the stakes were highest (a few more national championships/conference championships) especially in the modern era…so in that regard, no. But we also have a pretty significant margin in the head-to-head at 61-44 and our all time wins put us ahead in some departments…so I think we are on par as programs but you guys have pulled out more titles.
Three times the assets with considerably less success ( ultimately Titles = success ) Sorry, Texas is a top tier program but definitely not on par.
Amen. They are 2nd tier in College Football.
That’s fair but I like to tell people who bring up head to head this. I was raised to believe that Championships mean more than anything in sports and I feel as if the amount of National Championships we have over you guys 7-4 shows that historically we are a better program. Its really easy to see if we are going to be honest. I think for anyone to say that we are on par as programs is fooling themselves.
Also, we’ve played better. OU’s margin of victory is much greater. You have to remember that school’s like Texas and USC have academic and campus (social life) advantages that OU doesn’t. But OU was recognized by ESPN for example, as the No 1 program.
He’d probably say after Michigan, Uterus has the 2nd most wins in NCAA.
I like that guy Cowherd.
Ok, that’s your opinion. I can respect that. I think your bias is showing just a tad, but I can’t really blame you for that. Part of the reason for our optimism is because we were an “above average” QB away from 8 wins last year. Everything we’ve seen thus far points to Shane being capable of above average play as a freshman.
What has Shane shown up to now to make you capable of believing he can be above average? That is like me saying that I think Austin Kendall will be above average based of his Spring game results. I think that invalid. I also think its a HUGE reason that us Sooner fans along with majority of the nation laughs at you guys because once again it shows you are already calling a guy who hasn’t played a down in College Football a possible above average QB
Well it obviously goes beyond a relatively strong spring game performance. All reports coming out right now are saying that Shane is by far and away the best QB we have in the system. Seeing as we had average to below average QB play for most of the season, I think that immediately puts Shane at at least average (not good but not bad) QB level. It is true he has not played in a real game as of yet, but he has gone against a real defense all through the spring and summer. So we’re not talking about a QB that just enrolled right before Summer 1. He competed all spring training and capped it with a rather impressive spring game. He separated himself from the rest of the group. That’s with 2 QBs that actually have played and started. So combining the fact that he established himself against our rising secondary, and come out the other side as the leader, as well as all of the stories we’re hearing about his intangibles, I’m inclined to believe that he can be an above average QB in his freshman year. I have no problems with believing that. It’s not like I said he was going to win the Heisman or lead us to the playoffs. But I do think he’ll do what’s asked of him, and be relatively successful at it… I don’t really think you can speak for the majority of the nation, nor do I care whether or not someone laughs at the program or fan base for that matter. I bet you this though, Stoops & Co. aren’t laughing at all. They’ll know to bring their A game this year. For your team’s sake, you better hope they take us more seriously than you and the majority of the nation seem to.
You guys have a lot of talent. I wouldnt be shocked by a 9 win season at all.
I’m predicting nine for them as well.
2016 Ut Schedule
Sep 04 vs. Notre Dame L 35-14 ND is too solid
Sep 10 vs. UTEP W 42-10 Ut rolls
Sep 17 @ Cal W 28-26 Cal lost to many guys
Oct 01 @ Ok State L 45-20 Gundy and Co. win big
Oct 08 vs. Oklahoma L 38-24 Revenge is SWEET
Oct 15 vs. Iowa St W- 28-24 You guys get revenge
Oct 22 @ Kansas St L- 30-24 Snyder is tough at home
Oct 29 vs. Baylor L 34-31 Close game but Russell is too good
Nov 05 @ Texas Tech L 41-23 Mahomes is too good
Nov 12 vs. West Virginia W 29-27 Warren rushes for 200
Nov 19 @ Kansas W blowout. Its Kansas
Nov 25 vs. TCU L 36-20 Garry Patterson has those boys ready every year
5-7 is my honest overall record for you guys. The reason I see Baylor beating you guys is because they almost beat yall with a 3rd string qb last year, Snyder is tough at home, Tech is too good offensively as well but these all are tossup games IMO
OSU had no business winning last year they were terrible. I think UT gets that W.
Baylor is in complete disarray. that’s a W.
Tech cant stop the run or just tackle. UT is going to run the ball a lot more than what people realize. W
OU, TCU, and ND are def losses.
Win the games they’re suppose too and lose the games they’re suppose too.
But, hey they can lose every game next year. Won’t hurt my feelings one bit… Actually that would be awesome..
Rudolph wasn’t healthy in that game vs ut last year. You could clearly see something was off and osu being home makes me feel like they win. Baylor is in a disarray yes but don’t forget they still have playmakers. Seth Russell is a stud along with Shock Linwood and KD Cannon. Baylor barely lost to ut last year with a WR playing qb if my memory is right. I think Baylor is a definite tossup as well and Tech I can see it going both ways.
Lol, ya Baylor had a backup WR at QB.. They ditched the pass game.
Baylor is and will continue to be in the news. That team isn’t focused.
side note: did KD Cannon leave?
Yea but I would imagine that game being late in the season would help Baylor be a better team than at the beginning. Yes KD is still there. Although they lost Briles don’t underestimate them. They still have a butt load of talent and like you mentioned they almost beat the whorns last year with a WR playin QB
Taco Tech still won the game with that terrible Defense , this year they have the advantage of being at home. Okie Lite had no run game and a inexperienced Offense and still won the game at Texsa. West Virginia should of been a easy win because of all the injuries but WV still found a way to win. So it’s going to be a tough season for Texsa.
In that case, bye bye Charlie.
LOL. I wonder if we will still hear about the 5 core values, #letsride and #believe crap once he’s fired. I would guess ut says they didn’t want him anymore or he wasn’t good enough after he’s fired haha
Maybe they can end up at 7-5 and keep Charlie. IF NOT, then they probably get Houston’s coach.
Despite the view that the Big XII is soft, it is tough to get wins. Only guarantees are ISU, KU normally, but you know you’re gonna be in a dog fight with OSU, WVU, KSU, Tech, Baylor. I honestly see those teams as very similar to UT. Could be anywhere from 5-7 to 9-3. OU and TCU should be a notch above that crop, but as I said, no easy wins.
Yes, in the Big 12 offenses actually score points, so any team is in danger week in and out. Bowl games always favor defensive teams because of the month-long prep – which is why I hope to see more matchups with the sec during the regular season.
Yeah I think a 9 win regular season is best case scenario of the predictable outcomes.
I think the kid is going to be a good one, and he and Buechele are going to work well together for the next 4 years. I like it when UT doesn’t suck. It pushes OU to be better, and makes the RRR and Big 12 in general more fun.
I like OU 52 Texas 13 games better.
UT can be a good team, and OU can still kick their butt.
In both 2000 and 2003 UT only had two regular season losses, and OU stomped them both years.
I definitely hear you in that one. The Big12 is at its best when both programs are strong.
TFB killing us with this info packed Thursday. I’ve got so much crap to do today ?. Guess I’ll have to interact with the night crew once I can read all the info posted.
Those pics of SS17 are awesome. Was supposed to be on a cruise right now, but that got nixed by the passing of my brother Gene Cotter Monday night in a car accident. Pretty tough time but plenty of family and community support for his wife, kids and our family. Please keep them in your prayers. He was supposed to go to the Ohio State game with me this Sept. How quickly things can change.

FSSW replaying OU/TCU, no huddle version.
It’s been a long day but iss been nice with so much info to read and think about. Football is right around the corner. I can’t wait!!!
THIS kid……better check him out….Id make room for him
https://twitter.com/CCMachine/status/753760745880420352
Looks like he went to the Eric Striker school of pass rushing.
No kidding….thats alot of sacks and qb pressure. And hes 6’4″ geez.
That’s a huge difference, to have that athleticism and tenacity and a 6’4″ frame….dang!
Nasty, mean, ruthless.. Whatever you want to call him. I want this kid on ss17. Film is impressive
TFB…THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Don’t know how to handle myself with all the news!
