Open Post | Weekend, Jan. 29th – 31st (UPDATE Sat., 11:32 am)

Parrish Cobb: Last week Texas was coming on strong with OU commit, Parrish Cobb. Cobb then decided against taking a visit to Texas and eliminated them from consideration. However, despite being a long time Oklahoma commit, Cobb did say that Baylor was still under consideration. In talking to some folks, I’m told the Sooners feel very good about where things stand with Cobb, especially after the in-home visit.

Cobb was expected to take a visit to Baylor this weekend but we are told that he apparently has backed off that a little and is now instead saying that the visit is “possible” but not a certainty. It’s never done till the papers are signed but right now things still look good for the Sooners. – (Brandon)

Erik Swenson: As most of you know, long time Michigan OT commit, Erik Swenson (Downers Grove, IL) recently decommitted after his offer was effectively revoked. Since then the Sooners have been in touch and Swenson is expected to be in Norman this weekend.

“I’m just hoping it all works out”, Swenson said about this upcoming visit. He currently does not hold an OU offer but clearly is hoping one happens this weekend. Swenson also told me that he did take an unofficial visit to Wisconsin last week but it appears they are full. Since decommitting, Swenson has picked up offers from schools like Missouri, Virginia, and Rutgers but I got the sense that the Oklahoma offer would be special if it comes. With Jauan Williams deciding not to visit OU and Tramonda Moore trending towards Oklahoma State, Swenson could be just what the doctor ordered for this Sooners offensive line class. – (Super K)

Caleb Kelly: Coach Mike Stoops did an in-home visit with Caleb Kelly last night. Kelly’s mother tweeted out a picture of Kelly, Stoops and a mentor and coach of Kelly’s, Tony Perry…dabbin.

I did ask Kelly after the visit if at this point these visits really matter or if he’s seen and heard everything from all the schools that he needs to. Kelly said, “I don’t know, it’s hard to explain but right now everything pretty much matters”.

I took that mean that there is still some part of Kelly that is undecided. The Sooners obviously have a long standing relationship with Caleb. He’s been to Oklahoma on multiple occasions. He has close ties to the coaching staff. There is a lot of familiarity with Oklahoma. Not sure which way this one is going to go but normally when the circumstances are as they are, the school with that degree of familiarity and connection to a recruit wins out…normally. – (Super K)

Jared Mayden: Before Jared Mayden’s OU trip last weekend he told us that he may silently commit before he publicly announces. We’ve been watching this one from both sides and so far our Alabama sources tell us that a behind-the-scenes commitment has not happened for them. Everyone around the OU program has been pretty tight lipped about this one so it’s hard to get a sense of how OU might feel but when things are quiet in cases like this…it’s a good sign. – (Brandon)

Nelson Mbanasor: Just a quick note regarding 2017 DE Nelson Mbanasor (Pflugerville, TX). Mbanasor picked up his first offer yesterday when he received an offer from Bowling Green. Wanted to make note of this as Nelson is the younger brother of OU CB, PJ Mbanasor. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 10:33 am) Just a quick note on DE/OLB Maxs Tupai who will be visiting Oklahoma this weekend. Tupai will be hosted by another native Samoan, Dru Samia.
