Open Post | Thursday, Jan. 21st (UPDATE 8:55 pm)

Chris Daniels: While Daniels decommitting from Oklahoma last night was a tough blow, most Sooner fans sensed it could possibly be coming. I did have a chance to speak with Daniels father last night after the decommittment.

The Daniels family has hosted a number of coaches all week. The remaining visit schedule is Tennessee this weekend followed by Texas A&M on the final weekend. Based on my conversation with Daniels farther, here is where I see the primary schools Daniels is considering.

Tennessee: The Vols would have to have a monstrous impact on the Daniels family this weekend to really have a shot.

Texas A&M: TAMU was at one time Daniels favorite and his father admitted that he was headed that direction. However, when TAMU became unsure of their numbers and discontinued recruiting Daniels that seemed to put the nail in the coffin. But with a visit coming up, it’s hard for me to count them out just yet. Coaches have a way of smoothing things over.

Oklahoma: In talking to Chris’ dad you get the strong sense that while they really loved the trip to Texas last weekend, there is still a lot of loyalty they feel towards Oklahoma. The word I heard over and over is “safe”. They feel Oklahoma has the most stability and as Daniels Sr said, “they’re right there…a few more players and they can win the national championship”. I get the sense that if his son can’t decide on a clear winner then the family may lean Oklahoma because of how long the relationship with coach Stoops and Reynolds has been there and because of how close they feel the Sooners are to making it to the national championship.

Texas: Texas hasn’t been recruiting Daniels long but they’ve turned young Daniels head. He apparently had an amazing time on the official visit. And something that’s also really helped Texas is a former teammate and close friend of Daniels in freshman starting OL, Patrick Vahe. Daniels’ Sr said that Vahe is a guy that Daniels isn’t just friends with but also respects immensely and in a lot of ways, “looks up to him”. Right now I get the sense that young Daniels likes Texas and they may be at the top of his list.

Next week, Oklahoma, Texas and TAMU will do their final in-home visits with the Daniels. Coach Bob Stoops has already done his visit with Daniels so coach Reynolds and whoever else he brings will be going up again coach Sumlin and coach Strong who haven’t made visits just yet.

In the meantime, I can tell you that the Sooners are working on some other guys in hopes of perhaps flipping someone. The difficult is that Chris was expected to be more a of B gap (3/4i tech as OU plays multiple fronts) for OU. Players like that need to be taller and longer guys like Daniels and finding those 6’3/6’4 280+ lb guys that can get off the ball this late is a chore. – (Super K)

New Visitor Named: Yesterday we mentioned that an ACC OLB commit would be visiting this weekend but we withheld the name since we had not yet been given permission to put it out by the young man. Well, he did give us the ok. The player visiting is Louisville commit PJ Blue (Montgomery, AL). Blue told one of our affiliates that he is extremely excited about the OU visit. – (Brandon)

Caleb Kelly: We received a lot of questions yesterday about the status of Caleb Kelly. For a long time it’s been believed that it was only a matter of time before he would sign with OU. I’ve checked around and I don’t believe anyone can say definitively where he ends up but there does seem to be truth to the notion that Notre Dame is a bigger contender in this that may have been previously thought.ย Kelly has a top 3 of OU, Notre Dame and Oregon and it sounds like it will come down to the Sooners and the Irish.ย Hey, who doesn’t like a little drama? – (Super K)

Kapri Doucet: JUCO LB Kapri Doucet announced last night that he will announce his final decision on Monday following his OU visit which is scheduled for this weekend. Schools in the running for Doucet’s commitment include Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisville. – (Brandon)

Amani Bledsoe: With Daniels decommitting, Bledsoe became that much more important. Coach Diron Reynolds is set to do an in-home visit with Bledsoe today. Bledsoe is down to OU and Kansas. – (Brandon)

Team Note | Testing: The Sooners did their testing yesterday. As he tweeted, John Humphrey did indeed run the fastest 40 time. I’m told Dede Westbrook was 2nd. Interestingly, I was told that safety Hatari Byrd actually posted the best shuttle time at 4.09. That’s some impressive start/stop and COD for a young man of that size and stature.

I asked about Chanse Sylvie’s times but apparently he has not been cleared yet. A note on Sylvie, it sounds like he’s very liked within the program so far…has all the makings of a great teammate. – (Super K)

Mark Jackson: I chatted with star OLB/DE and TAMU commit, Mark Jackson last night before his in-home visit with Baylor. Jackson confirmed that he’s still on for his Oklahoma visit next weekend. Jackson tells me he will make his final decision between TAMU, OU, Baylor and Texas. In talking to a source, Jackson seems to be a real possibility for OU. The possibility of coming in and starting at the Jack positition that Eric Striker vacated is appealing. Even before his commitment to TAMU Mark was never shy about expressing his interest in the Sooners. Last night he sent me a picture from earlier this week of coach Stoops and coach Strong who did their in-home visits with him on the same day. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (11:47 am): Rivals’ Jason Howell is reporting that 2016 OU cornerback commit Parrish Cobb will be in Austin this weekend to visit Texas. TFB has been aware of the possibility of this visit, but as of the time of this update what we’ve been told is that plans are still somewhat up in the air. Which isn’t to say Howell’s report is inaccurate, rather it just slightly differs from the latest information we have been provided. Obviously we’ll keep you up to date as best we can regarding the visit one way or the other.

– UPDATE (12:58 pm): Sooners have apparently extended an offer to 2017 ATH Devin Morris (Caldwell, TX).

– UPDATE (2:57 pm):

– UPDATE (3:21 pm): Your working visitor list for this weekend.

– UPDATE (3:45 pm): #boom.

UPDATE (8:55 pm): Sooners are getting a big visitor. We have confirmed through someone close to Baylor OL commit, Patrick Hudson that he will take an official visit to Oklahoma. When I asked when the visit would be the source said, “no date set yet but soon”.

If you’re not first, you’re last!

  • Sam Philbeck says:

Any news on Velus Jones in-home visit? That’s one that I’ve been interested in hearing about from you guys.

    • Super K says:

      Nothing just yet my man

      • Sam Philbeck says:

Okay cool. That’s a guy who I’m hoping we land. Keep up the great work guys!

        • Stephen says:

You should feel pretty good if that’s the guy you want.

          • Sam Philbeck says:

I’m hoping its going to be good. I’ve felt good about our chances with him for a bit, but alittle more confirmation always helps. I think he would be perfect in the way they used Sterling in the slot or outside with his speed. I like his tape a lot.

  • Matt says:

is Chanse Sylvie going to be an impact player or just a great teammate?

  • Zack says:

Great work. Would have rather read that the Caleb Kelly stuff was nonsense but oh well let’s hope the rumors of negative recruiting end up rubbing him the wrong way.

Good for Byrd. I wonder if they will get creative to get him on the field. Maybe ask him to get up to 225+ and bring him down into the box.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Hmm. You don’t think Arkansas is a player for Daniels?

    • Furr-Sure says:

Noticed that also. I think they’re a real contender for him

    • Super K says:

I thought they could be but I think it was a little too late. If he would’ve changed his Tennessee trip or TAMU trip and visited Arkansas instead then maybe but without that…I just don’t see it.

  • DCinAZ says:

What is PJ Blue projecting as? He’s listed as an OLB but he’s pretty light to play that position at this level.

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

bout to have a heart attack at work reading about these kids flipping

  • Jordan Esco says:

I added Blue’s film, if you haven’t already searched it out yourself. Just refresh and hopefully it you’ll see it added in the post above.

  • KJ1123 says:

Tennesse is an interesting one for Daniels. They have a couple young bulls in Mckenzie and Tutle. Mckenzie flipped (or was a big part of it) Richmond from Ole Mi$$ last year and is always recruiting for the Vols. That would be a pretty formidable line in a couple years.

  • SoonerMagic76 says:

K – I hate to bash on you, but you asked “who doesn’t like a little drama?” I would like to submit that I, for one, would prefer no drama and that everyone we were interested in just signed with us. But wishful thinking and all that.

  • Tipman says:

What happens if Beal and Doucet both commit after this weekend. Do we have room for Kelly, Jackson, Bowen and/or Tupai?

  • Furr-Sure says:

“The word I keep hearing over and over is ‘safe.'”

That’s interesting. I sorta view that like being in “the friend zone.” Yeah you like the girl, she’s really nice and she’s a nice catch, but ultimately you’re gonna ask out the girl of your dreams

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

Not to open this particular can of worms, but those words sound like they’re connected to some “friend zone” experience……..

      • Furr-Sure says:

I have once, as I assume others have since it’s a pretty common experience.

Regardless of my personal experience, it’s not hard to know what the friend zone is and make that comparison to this situation.

  • MrBigsby says:

I think the chances of landing Daniels now is less than 1%. I had previously said it was 50/50 and people mocked that. If we were still in the picture, he wouldn’t have decommitted in the first place.

  • soonerborn says:

Not really interested in Blue. He played SS in high school and was late to react on some of the plays. Saw him get drove backwards on a couple plays. If we had a GREAT recruiting class then I can see taking a few “chance guys” and moving them around to see what they can do.

    • bommer85 says:

i don’t know what really goes on behind the scenes in recruiting but its time for a change. OU should be top 12 every year and not worry about “filling in spots” 2 weeks away

      • soonerborn says:

Not really used to seeing OU this far behind in the ranking for recruiting. It’s getting worse each year.

      • sracer says:

A move to the sec would fix that, in my opinion.

        • DCinAZ says:

Why does everybody think a move to the SEC would send our recruiting into the stratosphere? Hasn’t been the case for Missouri.

          • Defend Colfax says:

Don’t compare us to Missouri. I think most agree what we lack we would gain from the hype. We obviously would be more appealing to the SE and I have a feeling we’d have a better chance at one of those SoCal kids we barely miss on.

          • DCinAZ says:

I think it’s reasonable to ask why people think we’d get a bump in recruiting if we moved to the SEC whether we’re Missouri or not. We’re OU right now and always have been. OU is OU. I don’t think our conference is what’s really dragging us down. Baylor is recruiting just fine (as is Houston) and on the verge of a top 10 class. What’s dragging us down is Texas nativism and the highschool coaches and college coaches in the state convincing players to stay and play in Texas. That won’t change just because we move to the SEC.

          • Defend Colfax says:

But what I’m saying is we wouldn’t be as reliant on Texas if we did because that’s not a win situation.

          • Defend Colfax says:

+1 for the Texas nativism. That’s OUr biggest battle.

          • Scott says:

I wouldn’t worry about some of the Texas kids wanting to stay in state next year. I wont tell you their names but some of the top players in the state of Texas think that the University of Texas and University of Texas a&m are completely irrelevant and those players hold offers from both schools. Those players are more interested in Bama , LSU , Georgia . In their eyes the SEC is the best conference and the ticket to the NFL.

          • sracer says:

I feel it would put us at the top of the BS that ESPN shoves down our throat. We would have a bigger presence in that part of the country, where the majority of 4 and 5 star athlete’s live. Of course this is totally from a football point of view. I’ve forever hated the sec conference, but if you can’t beat them you might as well join them.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

We CAN beat them. So we don’t need to jion them.

    • Fear The Magic says:

He has a Bama and Clemson offer. They must see something good.

  • Matt says:

I just want to hear about us stealing every recruit from A&M.. I HATE hearing OU recruits considering A&M because then I have to hear about how we can’t recruit against them. Want to know from a College Station resident how delusional they really are? They honestly think they were in the running for A. Peterson, they think Fran let him walk. I have to tell them all the time that AP’s final 3 were UT, USC and OU….they never listen.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Thank you, K & Brandon. Much appreciated. Did you happen to see Humphrey and Westbrook’s 40 times and if so can you share them?

  • hOUligan says:

Like Blue’s film. Enough speed played safety some. Good instincts. Checked out Emanuel Beal, 6’1 200ish played WR in hs and signed w/ Marshal but ended up at CC. Staff looking for that athletic ‘Striker-type’ guy.

  • SCKSChief says:

Two things: 1) Very concerned about DL situation, 2) The Daniels deal just makes me shake my head

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      bagmen

    • KJ1123 says:

Im not too worried about the DL, but I am worried about depth the next couple of years.

    • Doobie74OU says:

I also agree that loosing Daniels sucks but I think the position he plays is one that doesn’t need to be worried about as much as others. The guys we have returning next year are all top recruits and young:
      94 Matt Dimon DT 6-2 260 5 Jr.
      90 Neville Gallimore DT 6-3 345 1 Fr.
      50 Courtney Garnett DT 6-1 301 2 RFr.
      57 Du’Vonta Lampkin DT 6-4 300 1 Fr.
      99 Dwayne Orso-Bacchus DT 6-5 300 2 RFr.
      98 Marquise Overton DT 6-1 309 1 Fr.
      92 Matthew Romar DT 6-0 291 4 RSo.
      93 Jordan Wade DT 6-3 300 6 RJr.
      97 Charles Walker DT 6-2 297 4 RSo.
That 3 Fr, 2 RFr, and 2 RSo so we should be ok just need to add a couple next year if we end up without any this year. Sorry if this point got covered I started typing a couple hours ago at work but then got distracted! LOL!

  • SCKSChief says:

    Could Dalton Wood do that?

  • Michael Darling says:

Really worried about losing Kelly. All of these new OLB offers make me think OU is hedging their bets (which isn’t a bad thing).

  • Collin says:

I’m sure this has already been said on here before, but I for one am not concerned about the number of OLB offers going out as of late. If i’m looking at our roster for next year on defense, linebacker is a position that could afford to have some depth given the number of guys going to the draft or graduating as well as the number of guys with little to no college game time experience. Also it seems the linebacker position is a constant revolving door during the season due to injuries.

  • Stephen Dale says:

re : conversation with Dad : there’s always an excuse when one is looking… OU has to move on.

  • KJ1123 says:

Vahe is a good player, I can see why Daniels looks up to him.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Daniels couldn’t use Texas record the past two seasons or lack of a post seas game after 2015 as decision-makers. And he wouldn’t say the friendship between mr Daniels and Strong made the difference or that Charlie possibly played the ‘race card’.. a supposed friendship is as good an excuse as any………

  • KJ1123 says:

Only reason Kelly would be considering Oregon imo is location….oh and nike. Other than that I think Helfrich is on the hot seat and they wont be a NC contender for a little while.

    • Stephen Dale says:

it will a surprise IF Kelly actually signs with OU….He is still looking for a ‘fit’ or he would have cancelled all remaining visits and committed to OU months ago……on the other hand, the PAC offers much better trips and more publicity as well as being closer to home. Can’t blame him for considering Oregon..

      • CWasha says:

Have you ever posted anything positive about OU? Just curious

        • Slim Sooner says:

He tried to yesterday but everyone smelled a skunk.

        • BoomerDave says:

That’s not his thing. He posts how we are going to lose every game and every recruit we are after, yet never once has admitted to being wrong. I think he is really Jim Traber.

      • Malicong says:

He has maintained for months how he would have a school picked well before NSD but would not announce anything until that time. He has said he would most likely silent commit well before. He took all his visits long ago with Notre Dame being 6 weeks ago. He wasn’t considering them at that time (at least that he has told anyone) and he hasn’t said he is considering them now. Everything that I have seen is Notre Dame is pushing, not Kelly. I’ve heard they have asked their media to get involved to help the push (IE Tom Loy predicting ND). He is still talking everyday to his friends on the Sooner roster and in this upcoming class. Plus OU has the last coaches visit with him. If Viney leaves, things could change but I think OU will find a way to keep him.

    16 / 1
    14 / 1
    14 / 2
looking at National ranks of 31and big 12 of 3 at the moment(behind baylor and tcu but texsa will jump us)

    • Stephen Dale says:

agree. Baylor, Texas, & TCU at the top of the conference recruiting. WV seems to be doing well although Holgerson always seems to hit the Florida areas and Washington DC hard……

    • Tipman says:

add lampkin and kyler murray and we are closer to 5 than 14

      • bommer85 says:

definitely true…also could change quite a few classes with attrition/transfers both in and out of the program.

    • Jefe says:

That’s scary. First time in 13 years OU doesn’t have one of the top 2 classes in the conference?

      • Stephen Dale says:

mull this over : OU has ZERO commits from DFW ; ZERO commits from San Antonio; ZERO from North Central Texas ; and only 1 ( one) from Houston !

  • Dwebb_96 says:

I get tired of listening to the radio shows and all they can say about this situation are negative comments about an 18 year old changing his mind. I cannot begin to imagine someone that age having second thoughts with a lot of influential people in his ear. While i would certainly love to see Mr. Daniels sign with OU, if he doesn’t, the sun will still come up and there will be another day. Super K, thanks for the objective facts and not just speculation about the events that have given this young man a chance to sit back and really think about his future.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Obviously the young man is entitled to do whats best for him and I wish him luck.

My only gripe, kids really need to learn what the word commitment means.

      • Stephen Dale says:

EXACTLY ! if one isn’t sure, don’t commit and give your word. Conversely, OU should not have accepted his commitment without a cancellation of all remaining visits… That was a mack Brown mantra and it worked well for him…

        • Defend Colfax says:

Yeah that guy owned little Bobby huh?

          • Stephen Dale says:

Mack lost few guys who committed to Texas yet thought about taking more visits. mack told them their scholarship would be used elsewhere if they took another visit…whether he could evaluate talent is another matter. Point is , Mack drew a line in the sand and forced the texas commits to honor their word or else…..a vast majority of them did after giving a commitment to Mack & staff……..

          • Defend Colfax says:

Winning is the only thing that matters old man. Stoops>Brown

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Committing these days means having a current favorite for lots of recruits. Then there are others who commit and stand by it because they are really committed.

      • KJ1123 says:

        Exactly Rick!

        • Rick says:

KJ, in all the years, I’ve watched these NSD’s come and go, EVERY recruit is an absolute, positive, maybe, sorta, kinda recruit until they fax in their paperwork on NSD. You never know what’s going through these guys heads, they are very young, they are inexperienced, their heads might turn by a beautiful young lady, or a coach claiming “racism”. The only recruit we have this year, I would have bet the farm on is Roberson, he wants to be a Sooner. If he never plays a snap, I’ll respect him for that, I do hope in 2-4 years down the line, we are talking about him being an AA. Boomer!!!!!!!!!!

    • Malicong says:

      Me too.

  • bommer85 says:

whatever you do don’t go to the texas TFB page. Its not fun to read.

  • Brad Warren says:

It’s comical how consumed some are with recruiting rankings 2 weeks before NSD. If you don’t think Kelly and a couple other studs are coming here and this class is done then you’re nuts. We’ll close strong and move up considerably in the rankings.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I like your optimism. However, I reserve the right to go ballistic if we have a lower star ranking than last year.

      • Brien Brown says:

        Take another drink Hunter lol!

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I only drink on weekends for the most part. But there is no reason to have a worse class than last year except in total number of commits agreed?

          • Bob Edwards says:

The problem is the ranking is based on total number of commits. You can have higher rated players but a smaller class can give you a lower rating.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I know. I guess that sums up the weakness of the outlets. I mean, when USC was on probation, they had 18 one year, but 4 of them were 5 star and the rest 4 star. But they were ranked down. Stupid.

Last year, we were at 3.58 8th best. The same Rivals has us at 3.44. So I think we’ll surpass last year. But still worried at this point.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I can go on for days with the problems with the rating system. The thing to look at is where are our greatest needs in the next couple of years. How well are we doing in those areas? And keep in mind that very few of these players will impact next year, this is all two and three year down the road stuff.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

True. But remember Bama had freshmen that impacted the team in a positive way.

          • Bob Edwards says:

And so did we, but most of them didn’t. If most of your true freshmen are playing you have really screwed up over the last four years.

          • KJ1123 says:

And also look at it this way….USC had the top recruiting class last year….and they went 8-6. Just a little perspective.

          • Stephen Dale says:

of course playing 6-8 true frosh fulltime had nothing to do with the record… of course not.

          • KJ1123 says:

I can only think of 2. Iman and the red head kid. Both were impact players.

          • KJ1123 says:

I can only think of 2. Iman and the red head kid. Both were impact players.

          • Brien Brown says:

Well we will have a smaller class than last year last year was like 27 kids and this year will be 20-22 so 5 kids less, plus Murray doesn’t figure into the rankings and they don’t give much respect to JUCO players. Like I said the other day the playoffs can help this class but more likely to help the 2017 class

      • MoJoOkie says:

Go ahead now, then if we end up higher you won’t have missed your chance.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

NSD not that far away. I am hoping for the best. Either way, I expect to be Big 12 champs next year and get into the playoffs.

          • Scott says:

OU will blow out Houston & Ohio St. OU will have 6 personal foul calls against Texsa , Charlie Morals Skrong will start growing hair after he see’s the halftime time score OU 56 UT 0 .

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I see it. They will not run that weak ass QB read option on us next year. Nobody will. What a tough schedule!

          • Stephen Dale says:

at least you dream BIG !

      • Brad Warren says:

I would expect nothing less bro

    • CS says:

I remember the same thing last year, people were losing their mind, with the 8-5 season we had, it was like OU closed the football program and we will get any one to come play for us. I happened to remember mentioning that we still have Bob, the doubters ofcourse had their reasons. And with that season, we ended up landing Hulk, Dahu, Miller, Stephens, Haughton, McKinney and finally thanks to dumb sexaT policies Lampkin.

I will NOT doubt for a minute that we will land a top 15 class. We are the Big12 champs, few players away from a NC.

Btw, losing Daniels is NOT the end of the world. If I can recall, the same thing happ with losing Justin Manning to A&M and people were ready to run Bob out of office, and what has Manning done? Romar and Walker on the other hand have shown us that recruiting is not the END of the process, it is just the beginning.

      • Bob Edwards says:

What I don’t get about the whole thing is that, after finishing 11-2, some can’t seem to recognize we are headed in the right direction. Are we there yet? No, but we are on the right track. We just need to let the good new assistants we have do their thing.

  • Mizuno44 says:

TFB is beginning to identify as “Thanks For Bleakness”

  • Birddawg says:

I don’t understand this late allure to Texsa.
    OU is the superior program.
Do you want to win and be relevant in December?
Do you want to be drafted?
We have more players drafted and we Win. Done.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Bigger campus. Last year, they couldn’t get any DL players, so there will be starting spots available sooner than at OU. Strong says they have more Black coaches than OU.

    • Defend Colfax says:

The allure to Texas is Texas. Make Texas proud yada yada. It’s the race card no one is mentioning.

      • SamSooner says:

I still can’t believe Strong said that.

        Edit: I don’t want to believe…

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

OU freaking stood up against racism last year, it was national news! It jelled the team. WTF?

        • Defend Colfax says:

I can but I don’t think it was as devious as most. I think he was just stating facts and trying to appeal to families of young black men.

          • Defend Colfax says:

Speaking of which still never saw a true quote anywhere. Anyone have a link?

          • SamSooner says:

But I can’t imagine what would have been said if a White coach said to a White recruit “don’t go to texsa because their coaching staff is 80% Black.”

          • Defend Colfax says:

I could. It would be huge news and he’d probably have to resign. But I don’t think that is what Strong said.

          • Stephen Dale says:

I can…………the guy would be fired immediately and Boren would close the coaches office for a week or two.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

They have more black coaches okay. They have 71% OU 40%…of course they have 4 more than we do.

          • RBear says:

this perpetuates a toxic dialog and it’s based on hearsay

          • Brad Warren says:

And there aren’t enough black head coaches, movies or actors recognized by the academy. The race card is soooooooooo played. Last time I checked we have a black president.

        • OU23 says:

Can someone remind me of the quote being attributed to Strong? I’m not sure society has a problem with a coach selling his program in this regard (or using the “race card” as some have termed it). I would assume that he was trying to make a point that the UT staff is more relatable to the player on the basis of race. Not saying I agree, but this is fairly typical and often promoted in corporate america. Many of the top corp america companies openly admit that race demographics are a critical factor when they are selecting service providers and employees. Actually, some are even willing to admit that they exclude certain service providers if they are “too white.” And, I’m quite certain that they use favorable racial demographics to lure other minority candidates. Again, I’m not taking a position on it either way; just wanted to say that I’m not sure society really has a problem with this type of recruiting tactic.

          • Defend Colfax says:

            Barry Switzer

          • JB says:

I have a problem with the tactic. It’s racist. That said, I’m not too concerned about it. John Blake’s race didn’t help him recruit at OU otherwise he would still be coaching here. It didn’t help at Nebraska, and it didn’t help at UNC until he started funneling money to players for Gary Wichard. Strong is on his way out after another substandard year at UT. If Daniels bases his decision on race, then he will be making a decision for the wrong reason and he’ll be disappointed in a year from now when they hire someone else and it could very well be a person of a different race. If that’s what he wants, so be it. I’m more than happy for OU to recruit a 2* Cali player that can run circles around Daniels.

          • OU23 says:

I would also be happy to have a 2* player “that can run circles around Danies.” The problem is that finding those diamonds in the rough is very difficult. I understand your point; I’m just pointing out that this type of tactic is done openly (and promoted) in corporate America and seemingly accepted.

          • Stephen Dale says:

Both OU & Nebraska –as well as KST–hired guys who were so inept as HC’s the schools could not defend them, be it White or Black…Had Blake been as good a coach as he was a recruiter, he would have been in Norman till the day he decided to leave…

        • Stephen Dale says:

Why don’t you want to believe it ? Strong faces no censures or repercussions …That was why Texas hired him in the 1st place…to be more attractive to inner city prospects in Dallas & Houston. Texas said as much at the time. They wanted somebody who could relate to those youths ( after seeing the early success by Sumlin ) ….that is why overtures were made to Shaw at Stanford, Franklin at PSU, and Strong at Louisville. Those were the only three UT looked at after Saban said NO……….

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Perhaps they think they won’t be redshirted.

      • Birddawg says:

Get to sit on the bench and watch your team lose.
        Then play and lose
Get benched for younger talent and watch your team lose.
Sounds for a terrible NCAA career.

    • Clint Lenard says:

Texas outs guys in the NFL too, but definitely not like they used to. But I just can’t believe anyone would want to play against a team that wins as much as SMU for 3-5 years while trying to prepare for the NFL. Gross.

  • Zack says:

Is Anthony fogle just shooting the bull on the radio or did Daniels mom really not meet with stoops during the in home visit?

  • AlvinMack55 says:

This is what happens when the quality of players you are recruiting improves. The sharks are out in full force to try and sway some of OU’s commitments. Reynolds definitely has his work cut out for him to put together a solid D-Line class but the only other area that is of concern in this cycle is WR. We’ve got some major targets scheduled for visits. The big thing will be making the most of the in-homes and official visits these next two weeks.

We need to clean this up, right now. If EasTex was to return I would have no choice but to point the finger at one of you. Now, I’ve made a call and since we can’t get ServPro until next week, I say we blame Metzker, in light his prank yesterday.

    What say ye?

  • Mizuno44 says:

Despite the recent recruiting problems with kids in Texas, smart move on our part to refocus recruiting nationally. Fact is, there is so much competition in Texas, and the rise of Baylor, TCU, A&M, Houston, etc., can be attributed directly to their ability to keep in-state kids opposed to them going elsewhere. Short term pains typically translate into long term gains (except for the relationship between constipation and hemorrhoids), so let’s stay the course nationally and bring in kids who want to be here.

  • Jordan Esco says:

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

Texas OP is blowing up, in the mean time we’re pulling our puds losing recruits. The loss of momentum right now is not kewl. Is it because everyone saw us get physically worked in the orange bowl?

    • Defend Colfax says:

In regards to Texas momentum I, myself and a couple others all agree we have to fight the stigma of not being Texans. Even their Dairy Queen commercials praise Texas.

      • Matt says:

That is true but in the past, with Stoops at his prime, he pulled Adrian Peterson and Rhett Bomar out of Texas in the same class. Its not impossible, we just have to change something. Don’t ask me what.

        • Kelly Gurbcock says:

the fact that a 4 win UTerus team is in theses kid’s homes mauling us in recruiting right now it terrible!

        • Spitting Bull says:

Maybe we need to string more big bowl game wins such as Alabama a few years back. Getting trashed by Clemson two years in a row on the big stage is the last thing recruits see of us before signing day. I think they may think of that more than the fact that we got there. Just a thought.

          • KJ1123 says:

True, you make it to the NC and lose a close game, not as damaging. You get beat by the same team twice in a row, that’s hard to swallow.

          • Matt says:

yeah well we can think the team in 14 for checking out a game early on that one. They might not have won in ’14 but there’s no way they should have lost by 34 points. And that’s not conjecture either. The Brainiacs are the ones telling us the team didn’t want to be there and had already checked out during bowl practices.

      • James Gustina says:

Which is hilarious considering Dairy Queen is an Illinois product that is based in the far north with a strong presence in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, etc. Yet DQ gets attributed to Texas for some odd reason.

    • DCinAZ says:

It’s the Texas nativism highschool and college coaches are preaching down there.

      • Kelly Gurbcock says:

OU USED to be able to walk in there and put up a fight. We need the King back with his big FUR COAT AND SMOKING ON THE DAMN SIDELINES WEARING A TEXAS SUCKS SHIRT. and we need to pull a tonya harding on charlie strongs knees.

        • DCinAZ says:

I think we need to go back to the “we play for Championships” theme. That’s what got Peterson to come here. Nobody down in Texas is playing for Championships anytime soon.

I love OK and you have to experience it to know and appreciate it but if you’re comparing apples to oranges…

          • KJ1123 says:

Haha that’s funny I talk to people all the time that are at the school and they tell me…if OU wasnt here….I wouldn’t be either…

No offense to Norman, I always have a good time there, just comparatively to other destinations it’s hard to compete.

          • RBear says:

i think we’re agreeing- the “why’s” i referred to are the questions people ask like: Why aren’t recruit X and recruit Y more serious about OU? My answer: red dirt

          • SamSooner says:

RBear, have you ever gone to Athens, Georgia? It’s no bigger than Norman. It also has red dirt. Auburn doesn’t seem to offer much either.

          • Defend Colfax says:

Athens, You mean that really neat old university with the large campus?

          • RBear says:

point is, we’re competing for these kids based on a lot more than the football program, we don’t have an Oasis on the coast, we don’t have the culture of an Austin, we don’t have a lot to work with in that regard other than our tradition- kids add that stuff up

          • SamSooner says:

What should the OU coaches do to overcome that? Obviously, the brand is not enough. I’m dumfounded.

          • RBear says:

you do crap like oregon did with their uni’s, you get gimmicky. I do not want OU to ever resort to that though, i’d rather they stand on tradition any day

Gotta admit, Eugene is pretty nice, nice climate and 11/2 hrs to the coast. Plus the facilities built by PK are 2nd to none. Just sayin’…

but they lacked the tradition to pull the kids in so they got gimmicky to make it work

I know its been discussed before but it is utterly mind blowing that a Texas team that has put together one of the worst 3 year periods in program history can come in and raid Oklahoma for pretty much any in state recruit they want. • Kelly Gurbcock says:

  • Wilson says:

Morris looks explosive…but who the heck is that QB throwing the rock?…looks pretty accurate…nice ball placement…

  • Defend Colfax says:

Everyone keeps piling on the Charlie Strong race card thing without a quote. This all started with a paraphrased quote from Landthieves. I blame you Esco for co-signing. Does anyone have a link?

    • Defend Colfax says:

To the quote, not Landthieves. No thanks.

    • Furr-Sure says:

For the record, I don’t think this reason was why Daniels de-committed. He just wanted to play elsewhere in the end.

But Daniels was quoted in a Rivals article as saying: “They said the team was 80-percent black athletes so if theyโ€™re 80-percent black athletes why not have 80-percent black coaches…”

      • Defend Colfax says:

So when Charlie Strong recruits black players he opens with a prose. I don’t see the negative recruiting. I see Charlie selling his only song and dance. What else could he say that Stoops couldn’t?

      • Defend Colfax says:

l feel like after this line he probably flips a poster board or pushes next on his power point display and has pictures of himself with other black people like he is trying to prove himself.

  • Indy_sooner says:

All honesty, we should be done worrying what a decomitt chooses to do from here on out. Sour grapes? Maybe, but how does that affect us if he ends up playing for others? My point is we move on. Focus on the kids that really want to be here…not the shoulda coulda types. That applies to anyone we end up losing. OU is bigger than any one person and we were close this year, even without a slew of 5 stars…just my .02

  • Jeff says:

I just hope OU doesn’t start losing recruits to a 5-7 Texass team

  • Bob Edwards says:

Somehow today on here reminds me of this:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
Then your probably don’t understand the seriousness of the situation

    With apologies to Rudyard Kipling

  • Brien Brown says:

FWIW: Despite the ton of seemingly bad news! I have seen others report and suggest and speculate that OU is in a good way with a few recruits. It’s my understanding that Doucet, Beal, and Velus Jones are pretty much locks. And there is a feeling that Mark Jackson and Bryson Guirdy could all become OU commits, Kelly is still in their minds a 80% lock into OU but, as noted on here ND is a player. No news on Southall and most think we get Guirdy and Jackson so be it. Also the overall outlook is that Mayden will be a Sooner also. This is not including Moore and Williams both of who is believed to be Sooners. Bledsoe is very much a coin flip and Kongobo is perhaps a long shot. So with that in mind that is 8 possible commits so my concern is who else is leaving or being removed from the team. I still feel we close with any number of the kids above we are in good shape, also I think Daniels is between us and Texas but, pretty sure he will be a Longhorn but, none of you all will be surprised by that!

No offense, but it wasn’t long ago you were saying a bunch of other guys were “locks” that aren’t so anymore.

      • Brien Brown says:

Well Kelly was a lock and somewhere along the way we dropped the ball same with Daniels. Moore hasn’t changed. Now there are guys that I felt where locks that I missed on. Bledsoe I still feel is an OU lean but again like I said before his momma wants him at KU like Jacskons dad wants him at TCU. Hard to beat a parent but, when you read a kids tweet and it seems he really likes your school you read into that more!

      • Brien Brown says:

But again its hard to hold a kid to his word also!

    • hOUligan says:

Like the positive post and know OU is going to pull in some of these guys. Thing is, can’t get them all and even if they all wanted to be Sooners, there just is not room. Watching film, I’m more impressed with Southall than Daniels or Guidry even though he plays on the edge, but that is a great possibility. Would love Jackson, too. Pick your best 5-7 of that group.

      • Brien Brown says:

Kelly is a must get, Jones cause we need a WR, Guirdy Jackson and Bledsoe can never have too much DL depth, Moore and Williams cause like DL you can’t have too much OL depth and Mayden! Just came back to check. Thank God! No updates!

  • Maverick says:

Not being negative, but realistic here. Every time we don’t get a kid we want, it’s a “loss”. Some years we have better recruiting “records” than others. We just need a few more wins before the end.

Doesn’t mean we don’t get good athletes, and it seems nearly impossible to predict a player’s potential success with any reliability anyway. 2 star or 5 star, they all have unlimited potential at this point.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Indy_Sooner makes a great point down below about not worrying about the ones that got away and just focusing on the recruits we got and the ones that want to be here. Two examples. We were all disappointed when we lost out on Julio Jones who by all accounts is a great receiver in college and the pros but if he comes to OU then there is probably no way Ryan Broyles breaks the career receptions and yardage records at OU during that time period. Likewise everyone was also upset when we lost out on Laquon Treadwell to Ole Miss who himself has had a great college career and will likely be a first round draft pick but if he comes to OU the Sterling Shepard who posted better career numbers is not near as big a player for OU the past few years. Every year we miss out on a few and we get a few. Like almost every other team including your Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida State types we hand out on average 150 to 175 offers and we get 20 to 25 recruits. The same can be said about next year and the year after! OU will be fine!

    • Maverick says:

I don’t subscribe to this logic at all. Getting who you want is always better than not. The fact that it’s worked out okay twice doesn’t mean anything. Imagine if we had Shepherd AND Treadwell. That would’ve been better.

      • cush creekmont says:

Doobie is trying to bring some +++ to the currently morbid TFB group. I understand his motive, but BOTH at once is better.
Perine & Mixon and Marshal & Calmus come to mind.

      • Rick says:

I’ll bite…Mav you are right, and Doobie is not wrong. Both thought patterns are correct to a degree and I for one could side with either (hopefully not sounding like a politician). I would happen to like to have it all, Mav says we need to gett all the players we want. YES, let’s do. Doobie says, lets get the players who inevitably want to be here, again YES, loyalty, character, motivation plays out to make a better team player. I’ll say, let’s go after the best talent available, somehow make them see that this is the best choice for them, and coach them up better than any of the other conference schools, and don’t forget to kick some (SEC BIG, PAC, ACC) a$$, every other chance we get.

      • Doobie74OU says:

I think you missed the whole point! No where did I saw we should go after elite players or try make it seem logical to pass over any recruit. Sure it would be great to have them all! Sign 15 – 5 * players a year. That would be great, but there would be a 16th, and 17th and 18th that we missed out on. Don’t worry about the ones we miss. We will get who we get and then it is up to the Coaches to make it work and up to us as fans to be supportive. No use crying over the fish that got away when you bring home a stringer full of fish!

        • Maverick says:

What’s the difference in this and saying don’t worry about the games we lose, just the ones we win are important?

          • Doobie74OU says:

First and foremost I don’t worry about the games we loose! Learn from them and move on! Secondly to are not even to the same. A recruit has the choice of 120 FBS schools to attend. There are only 2 outcomes in a game, Win or Loose! With a recruit 10,000 things you an not control determines were a recruit may want to play football. You tell him why you would like to have him, how he can help your team, how you can help him become a NFL player but in the end he makes the choice based on were his girlfriend is going, were his great uncle Billy Bob went, where his best friend since kindergarten is going, and so on and so forth! There are 31 – 5* players this year. You can’t build a team out of just those guys because you can never get enough. Alabama has won 4 out of the last 6 championships and they have 1 – 5* commit the same amount as Houston who has never won anything, Florida, Georgia and Auburn all who Alabama beat last year. Ole Miss has 2 despite being beat by Bama also. Clemson who lost the championship to Bama has 3 – 5* guys but if I had to bet all my money today on a team to get back to the playoffs next year, I am beating on the team that won 4 of the last 6, not the team that got the most 5* players. Again you seem to be missing my point recruiting is crazy it always has been and it always will be. I want the best players we can get from anywhere in the country that we can get them. Recruits(i.e. 17 or 18 year old kids) however, are always going to change their mind. It is natural to not have a clear view of your future at that age. All I am saying is OU will be fine with whoever they get. Even if on the outside it doesn’t appear to be that great a player. Charles Walker was a 2* or 3* recruit but was our most disruptive DL last year.

          • Maverick says:

“OU will be fine with whoever they get.”

First, none of us want OU to just be fine… And no. Just no. What you are saying makes no sense.

It matters who you get. Plain and simple.

          • Doobie74OU says:

You acting about as dumb a bag of hammers! I said multiple times OU needs to get the best players available to them each and every year, but I guess you are caught in a Stephen Dale loop of gloom and despair! I don’t need you to agree and don’t care if you do but it is simple facts. You can’t get everybody you want! Maverick even lost Goose but the show went on and he turned out ok in the end! LOL! Move on your life cause I am moving on with mine.

I think kj hit it on the head as far as recruiting to the city of norman…. I think recruits like the school and coaches the town mayb not so much im a black man and im a big ou fan go to games and stuff and sometimes i dont get good vibes like mayb I shouldn’t be here type of looks… Now im not sayn all whites look at me crazy cuz they don’t but im just making the point… When the players r on the field there r loved… Outside of football no so much and those r facts… Take it how u want i got love for everbody boomersooner

    • Defend Colfax says:

I’m sorry Norman isn’t very comfortable to you. Are you from Oklahoma?

    • Maverick says:

This might be anecdotal, but I can’t imagine that Norman is as bad as anywhere in the SEC for racism.

      • Richard Gray says:

Tru but the sec wins so much and send so many players into the draft kids will over look it as with ou not so much

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

OU’s history of sending players to the NFL is on par with any in the SEC

          • Richard Gray says:

But that’s history meaning years ago we talkn right now and moving forward the truth is the big 12 ou included isnt doing wat it use to do in the past

          • Defend Colfax says:

Last year we had a bunch of draft picks. I don’t think it’s that.

          • Richard Gray says:

How many signed??? Don’t include the ones that were undrafted versus how ou whole team both sides were getting drafted high in the draft

          • Richard Gray says:

          • Defend Colfax says:

True but OU puts players in the league. Not used to, still do.

          • Richard Gray says:

            Thats true

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Hell, I get those looks from every ethnicity out there. You would think I just fell to earth from a far, far away galaxy or something.

    • cush creekmont says:

Sorry you feel that way. I would hope Norman has little of that. I’m from the 60s-70s and didn’t see that on OUr campus then (we had an African-American student president in 1970). I later went to grad school in Austin and it was almost confederate.

      • Richard Gray says:

But thats wat i mean i think when u at the school it self u fine but the city of norman

    • Zack says:

Richard, thanks for stepping out there to make that statement. I think it is something worth talking about since the SAE thing and with the word out there that Charlie strong is selling “we have mostly black player so we should have mostly black coaches” that’s the rumor anyways. Do you feel this all over Oklahoma or just in Norman? I’m curious whether you feel those looks from all ages of folks or what. I’m 26 and grew up at a school pretty well diverse so I’ve never looked at a guy any color and thought “what’s he doing here, is he lost” I know older generations, my dad for example were brought up totally different so my hope is you get less of those looks from younger people, as a sign that times are indeed changing.
I’ve got to think its similar most places in the south and Texas.

      • Richard Gray says:

Im 28 from Muskogee.., as far as goin up there i never felt that in school but outside of school it were certain sides of town that i guess u can say were alot of blk population and other a larger white population so it s not just norman but its were recruits have to spend 4 years of their lives

      • hOUligan says:

Really don’t want to but it’s a place we have to visit. IMO, the SAE thing uncovered the bigger problem when Striker went on his rant. The same *bitches* that slap us on the back and invite us to their frat house but when we get there it’s a different vibe. I cannot imagine it is much different in Austin or Oxford, though.

    • Stephen woods says:

I’m sorry you feel those things. I always hoped that Norman or anywhere in Oklahoma was better than the places in the south.

      • Richard Gray says:

No need to apologize u didn’t do anything and its not just norman just used there cuz of ou

    • Dick Bump says:

Since I’m not black, I can’t really comment much. I don’t know what the percentage is but I do know there are many more blacks as well as other cultures living in Norman than in the past. I think Norman is one of the best cities in the state in which to live.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

What in the HEdoublehockeysticks is going on in here. As I have told you all time and time again, No matter what “It is and always will be a great day to be a SOONER” So step away from the ledge, regain your focus and relax.

  • Defend Colfax says:

I think we all just need to refocus and go back to bitching about kids.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

What get’s me is that we had a pretty good season. Won the Big 12 championship, and one of 4 teams to make it to the playoffs. Pretty dang impressive. But the past couple of days it looked like we just got beat in the Cactus bowl and had a terrible season.

    • KJ1123 says:

Exactly..school and coaches are getting better at selling themselves with gimmicks and rhetoric…OU sticks to the basics which is awesome in my opinion. But kids culture is changing. Back in the day it was OU is COOL. Now its OU is cool BUT…I think it’s just a sign of the times.

  • CPSooner says:

I’ll take heart any day over talent. I want great talent, but I’d rather have a 3 star player that “WANTS” to don the Crimson & Cream and is a team player. That’s all we had last time we won it all…a few exceptional players like Calmus and Roy, but mostly just gritty guys that fought together and were in it for the team and not into self-promotions like some 5 star prima donnas are. I hate to lose kids, but if they choose to go elsewhere, my getting upset about it won’t change a thang, and I refuse to live in anxiety of hoping a 17 year old don’t change his mind. I do however wish that kids would not be so quick to verbal if they’re still planning on taking OV’s. Slow your roll, take all your visits, then decide where the best place is for you. It really is a hit on your character to give your word and then simply back out of it. Our “yes” should mean yes, and our “no” should mean no. Boomer!

    • Maverick says:

I agree, but why do people assume a 5 star is automatically a primma donna, and every three star has heart and wants it more? Kids are kids, I doubt their attitudes are that much different between star rating.

      • CPSooner says:

Not all, but many. A lot of 5 stars seem to have an entitlement attitude while many of the 3 star kids seems like they have to earn it more and prove themselves. I try to stay away from absolutes. There are always exceptions. There are some great 5 star kids who have great heart and work hard. Likewise there are many 3 stars that have little humility and think they are the best thing since sliced bread.

        • Maverick says:

Maybe we label the 5 stars and hold them to a higher standard? I really don’t think a 5 star has much more of a chance to be a “bad egg” as anyone else.

          • CPSooner says:

Maybe so, but most people can’t handle excessive fame and praise. Pride naturally rises up the more the ego is fed, and that often makes it hard to not begin thinking you’re better than everyone around you. I do agree with you, we as fans, and media these days, certainly do our part to put the higher standards on them as well.

    • Rick says:

At 17 I was having a hard time deciding which girl to date. It was not an accepted practice locally to date Girl1 one week, and date Girl2 next week. A lovely young lady’s father would be knocking at your door in the day if that happened. I do agree with you about the verbal thing, but it has always been that way, unless someone changes things to an early signing period it will probably stay that way.

      • CPSooner says:

lol….It does seem to me like this year there have more de-committments than I can remember, not OU, but nation wide. I may be mistaken though.

        • Rick says:

I haven’t counted, I have no idea what the statistics are. I just know nothing is solid until NSD, and every year I can remember, players have decommitted. I think the social media thing might drive some of this stuff into the fore front quicker simply because it’s moving at the speed of light, where 30 years ago, if a guy decommitted, it might not be public knowledge for days or weeks. The point is, it’s always been there.

I saw that an update had been added and my first thought was “so help me if this is more bad news”…….. you’ve put fear into us

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think the rise of social media and instant information is doing a real number on exploiting the kid’s egos, and at the same time providing an emotional roller coaster for fans who pin their hopes on the momentary whims of 17 yr olds. It is like the fan base is living inside the emotional decisions of these young men. It would be wise to take a longer term perspective and let the dust settle before declaring recruiting disasters. Plus, I just naturally can’t stand drama so I tend to avoid all of this anyway. This instant information/connected society is causing unnecessary stress. Too much information, and especially impermanent information from fickle 17 yr olds.

    • Maverick says:

And yet, we all know that these still developing little brats are the life blood of our program. As much as we hate the drama, it is very important.

  • DCinAZ says:

Well this certainly explains some things looking back on Jefferson’s career as a Sooner.

โ€œIn the Big XII, we didnโ€™t really gameplan or anything,โ€ Jefferson said. โ€œRead the card, and thatโ€™s the defense weโ€™ll be playing. My mental focus was basically to just go out there and play whatโ€™s called. At this level, you canโ€™t do that.โ€

I think we just got one of the top 10 best defensive ends in the nation (the Jayhawk fans are blasting him relentlessly on twitter, so S.D’s cracks are of no concern, if he wasn’t going to KU, then he definately will never go). 6-5 263, moves really well. Good get to replace Tapper in the future. This type of talent, might be able to start as a freshman. On OUr way to a superior class.

      • Brien Brown says:

Yea I saw some of that! But I can see them getting mad he would have been easily their best player in this class without a doubt. They just get use to landing so many great basketball players they feel mad when a stud turns them down in football. He is a kid I had hoped along with Kelly that we needed in this class.

        • Rick says:

I think you had better get used to “gittin happy”.

  • Johnny Greenlantern Otis says:

so back to some bad news has anybody heard anything else about jerfferson?

    • Malicong says:

Only that he is not going to end up in Norman. I have not heard anything official but some are saying that he had his offer pulled.

    • AlvinMack55 says:

From what I’ve read, he is visiting Nebraska and will likely end up there. Pernell was considered to be an OLB in OU’s current scheme. This makes me wonder if they aren’t letting him pursue other opportunities while Stoops and Co. try to close out on guys like Mark Jackson, Max Tupai and PJ Blue along with the JuCo guys.

      • Defend Colfax says:

His scholly is pulled. Stoops just doesn’t make it a public matter unless it needs to be.

        • Rick says:

I figured that was the case with him. They are actively looking. I’m not going to worry about Cobb, he will either decommit or become one of next great DB’s at OUr school.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Hey KJ, Jordan, Super K or somebody else in the know. Should we take it as a good sign that Coach Viney is still around the OU program, tweeting about recruits, and generally seeming as if nothing as changed? As far as we last heard his replacement was hired last week and he was done as a grad asst. the end of Dec! Hope this means they found him a permanent position!

    • Zack says:

I think there’s a good chance he’s taking over the QC job that was vacated recently.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I’m hoping but why wouldn’t they announce something? Not like that would be a bad thing.

        • Zack says:

I’m not sure but it seems like he’s sticking around. I’d be shocked if there’s a position job open after this year.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Even if they can’t get him in a position right now that allows him to recruit off campus, just keeping him will pay off.

          • Zack says:

I think he’s a couple years away from having a position job here. Unless some odd reason one of the coaches leave. For example if boulware leaves he may be the running backs coach. At some point I think the goal is for him to be the secondary coach but I don’t think cooks is going anywhere soon. Ryan aber from the dok thinks he will be here awhile.

      • Doobie74OU says:

Is that a upgrade from Grad asst. I mean is it a paying gig?

        • Sooner Ray says:

I would say upgrade and believe it to be a paying job but I don’t think it allows him to go out on the road as far as recruiting.

No and I haven’t been overly concerned because I believe he said he was taking a break. If it goes a minute past signing day, I will fear the worst.

  • KJ1123 says:

I just heard Neville ran a 4 7……at 320 lbs. That boy can move.

  • M Shuster says:

Did we even go after Rashan Gary at all? I look at the list of schools he was interested in and we are not on there. I was just curious why we wouldn’t even be a player in a talent like his. That’s the kind of athlete OU doesn’t seem to sign anymore. We need the Tommy Harris type athletes to be competetive.

Looks like Velus is gonna stick with USC. Any way we offer Joshua Jacobs at WR?
