– Pernell Jefferson: As many of you may have noted, James Hale of 247sports reported, regarding Oklahoma LB commit, Pernell Jefferson (New Orleans, LA) that, “Oklahoma can no longer offer him a scholarship after he violated team rules at his school.”
We have not yet been able to verify the report.
Last night we spoke to the defensive coordinator at Jefferson’s high school in New Orleans, coach Jerry Phillips, and asked him about the report. He told us, “I have no idea where that came from. As far as I know he’s still committed to OU.” In reference the report, Phillips continued by saying, “There is no truth to that report.”
It is, of course, possible that the information in the report is coming from the Oklahoma side of things, and Jefferson and/or his coaches have simply not been made aware as of yet. We did check with a source on the Oklahoma side who said Jefferson is “still a take.”
Jefferson’s DC did say that Pernell is “planning on taking some other visits…just to make sure OU is the right place for him.” Nebraska and TCU are the two schools likely to get visits.
We will continue to dig regarding this matter as the 247 Sports report could very well be accurate. Again, it is certainly possible that the coaching staff at Jefferson’s school hasn’t been made aware of things. But this is what we have to go on for now. – (Super K & Brandon)
– Jeffrey Okudah: Top 2017 safety in the country, Jeffrey Okudah (Grand Prairie, TX) released his Top 10 over the weekend.
https://twitter.com/TheJeffOkudah/status/683454078949699584
As you will note, Oklahoma made the cut. This may seem like a bit of ho-hum news, but I can assure you it’s significant. For a while Oklahoma really was not a school Okudah was seriously considering. I spoke with Okudah this weekend to see what had changed to which he said, “I didn’t realize what Oklahoma’s defense would be like under coach Stoops and coach Cooks…I like the way they’re playing defense now…I like the way their secondary is developing and playing.”
Okudah has visited Oklahoma and he said he would definitely like to make a return trip for the OU vs. Ohio State game next fall. He is also planning to enroll early, so he would be available for 2017 spring practices. – (Super K)
– UPDATE (1:45 pm): I spoke with a family member of Charles Walker regarding whether he would return to Oklahoma next season or enter the draft. I took it for granted that Walker would return however the early departure of Dom Alexander made me rethink who else might consider leaving. The family member told me that he plans to “be back next season.” The family member also added, “right now all he’s focused on is getting OU that national championship.”
Walker will have till January 18th to declare so obviously things could change but this is where things stand of right now.
– UPDATE (4:56 pm): Recent Arizona LB decommit.

First offseason OP (:
Going to be another long offseason, per usual.
Yup but we have a great BBall team this year to help us out.
Boomer!
Parnell stuff is strange.
I think hale’s report is accurate just that he probably needed to wait a little bit longer to release the story.
You are probably right Zack, I have become so cynical about the media, I am always looking for them to screw things up based on their bias.
Just trying to read between the lines but I think ou coaches wanted pernell to look around. The rumor has been out there so long and I think they took his commitment before they knew who all would be interested.
Shouldn’t have offered him then.
This is true but it happens all the time and last year we lucked out of an ugly situation with Jacobs.
Guess we didn’t learn anything….bet this doesn’t sit well with our newly gained recruiting circles in Louisiana.
That’s kind of what I said yesterday because there was mention this weekend that we haven’t offered the #1 linebacker in the country for 2017 and he’s from Baton Rouge and is not considering lsu…
That makes sense. If true, they must have a pretty good idea of exactly how many they have and how many are planning on committing if a spot were available.
Well I know Kelly is considered a lock. But then I think they will try to go all in on Juarez when the dead period is over. And mark Jackson all of a sudden has ou as his leader from what he’s telling people. Which is kind of funny, not sure if you watched the 2014 5A playoffs between cibola? and Katy but the announcers mistakenly said Jackson was committed to ou.
I’ll take Kelly, Juarez, Little and Jackson and call it a day.
Pretty sure they can contact over the phone and via social media during the current dead period and no in person visits are allowed
He’s telling people OU is his leader? That’s good to hear! Maybe he’ll make the flip at the AA game this weekend.
If he’s not flat out telling people that, then he’s giving them reason to believe he will flip. I thought I saw that 3 people recently crystal balled him to ou.
And they were a&m and shorthorns writers.
It’s funny how stories get twisted either intentionally or not, to completely change the effect of the story. It’s like that old party game I played as a kid, where the 1st person in line whispers something to the next in line, so on and so forth, until the end where the last person says something not at all like what the 1st person stated.
On the Internet, the first guy speculates and by the time it makes the rounds it’s not only totally different but it’s now a known fact.
How is Hale way ahead of anyone, including Pernell’s high school coaches about what seem like significant accusations?
Edit: rumors from original post said Jefferson had violated team rules, thus Oklahoma revoked the offer.
Only thing I can think of is he may have received a tip from someone on the OU side. Our source on the OU side couldn’t corroborate his report though.
Super K, before the Baylor game, you said that OU needed to win that game. You said that a Baylor win will give them a big boost in recruiting, adding to their 2016 and 2017 momentum.
Do you plan to write an article to follow up how OU’s win has somewhat slowed down Baylor momentum. Are there any recruits you could point to?
Maybe you can clear this up, but on Twitter there was talk that he violated team rules. I didn’t think a recruit that hadn’t signed an LOI could be held to those rules yet.
Until they sign either party can change their mind if something comes up
I called Hale on his program. He wouldn’t commit to his story. But he clearly stated that Jefferson will not be choosing OU. I asked him if it was solely Jefferson’s call? He simply stated that Jefferson will be going to another school to play.
What the heck did Jefferson do wrong? Sorry, I’m in the dark on this.
Team rules violation.
Time to get Mique Juarez , Mark Jackson , Erik Fowler , and Greg Little. If you want playing time come to OU.
And Iman Marshall and Adoree Jackson
Hey Adoree was very interested in OU and actually thought about coming with Mixon & Quick.
And John Houston is on campus
Dean-o is in a bush somewhere with his camera out waiting to snap a pic.
And Gunner
US ARMY ALL-American game Saturday: West team has Juarez and C Kelly rooming together, Chanse, and also Moore. Others Jack Jones, Oliver,
Ed Oliver was in the Under Armor game
Correct. Wrong Oliver.
Did you watch the Under Armor game ? Ed Oliver was easily the best player on that field.
Rivals has us at 33rd place. But on average star we are at 16th tied with Baylor for now. Interesting that Georgia has the highest per star rating thus far, 3.86. They really aren’t significant in the SEC and fired the coach.
To me the avg. star is more of a important bit of information than the total stars.
Really hope OU sends the big guns (Cale and Cooks) to recruit Okudah. Would be great if he visited the Ohio State weekend (since he’s reportedly high on them).
His potential is limitless, IMO. His technique, instincts, and ball skills are incredible.
He’s a top 10 recruit.
He’s a lot like iman Marshall could play anywhere in the secondary.
I knew he was top 30, but it doesn’t surprise me he’s top 10
When scratching your head and wondering ‘why’ … let me throw a few names out … Ellen Diesch, Parker Boudreaux, JP Urquidez, Jean DeLance, Willie Allen, EJ Price and Greg Little. These are some of the top OU online recruits that aren’t coming. Last year OU whiffs on Wariboko, Barnett in state and Conner Williams among others. While OU has won a few battles, Samia, Frison , Ford, they have got to win more of these battles before they can dominate on the field.
I’m still holding out hope Price takes an OV
Can’t get everybody! We didn’t win the Natty, but they dominated on the field excluding Clemson. (Texas was one of those things). Bama lost as well.
No one, esp me, is saying anything negative about OU. The team did much better than most, including myself, saw coming. K nailed it in his article after the Clemson game. If we want to talk about taking that next step…they have to get more of these kids that are at the top of their board.
Fair enough. But last year a lot of posters argued that the problem was coaching, now it’s talent? Perhaps as coach said it was execution?
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen OU get out athleted like they did in the Orange Bowl. That was the most disheartening thing about that loss. I hope these young guys have something because they are going to need it.
wariboko, barnett had every opportunity to sign …….w came with strings and b played games
I wouldn’t say we whiffed on Barnett. His time ran out on his offer and his poor play as a senior made many back off. He’s fortunate to have landed at a good program.
If kids choose not to come…not much you can do. >Insert dead horse gift here< If Barnett jumped onboard early, he would have been a take. Wariboko played us to the end. Whatever motivates kids to go to one school over another, whether beaches, bitches or $$$… Just saying'… whether you're talking o-linemen or LBs, to be at the top, you have to get your top recruit 'wants'. You cannot be at the top if you're not getting the kids at the top of your own board.
that’s the mystery for several yrs now……..they do get visits and good feedback from many of their top targets, but they don’t sign
that’s the mystery for several yrs now……..they do get visits and good feedback from many of their top targets, but they don’t sign
I hear what you’re saying. I always lean toward star power than diamonds in the rough. I think our record and our run this year will help. Staying in the hunt will help even more. And moving guys along to the NFL will as well. We can only ride AD’s and Demarco and Trents success for so long, we need to continually send guys to the NFL and contend each year. AND, not lose to stupid Texsa.
Just for you KJ1123
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvkjewgF8GQ
I’m not a big ‘star-gazer’. You don’t have to get the ‘Greg Little(s)’ at every position. But it sure appears the teams that bring in a few of these are at the top. I keep waiting for that influx. You see the kids OU/Bedenbaugh has playing on o-line in the nfl and scratch your head why more kids aren’t beating down the door to play for him at OU.
Style of play can be an issue as well…well at least the perception of a style of play… Other schools…’they don’t play Pro style NFL type offense sooo…. ‘ Yeah if you know anything about football..you know with further examination its just propaganda…but…it is what it is..
I think getting 2 or 3 legit 5’s would be a HUGE win any year. I can’t speak for all the players. But Norman is a tough place to be at during the off-season imo. I really think that has alot to do with these kids deciding not to come. Unless you have roots there of course.
Right on Point , off-season is ruff in Norman.
HA!!!! have you ever been in Oxford MS in the offseason? I have because my daughter played soccer there 6 times a year. Norman is the garden spot of the Universe compared to Oxford or Starkville for that matter. There may be $everal rea$on$ they attend other colleges but that isn’t one of them.
there’s a library…..they might try studying
That’s what they have the academic center for…
That’s what they have the academic center for…
sounds like a bidness opportunity to me
We got Kyler Murray so Greg Little will take a visit to OU now.
I heard Little was recruiting kids at the UA game to go to Ole Miss over the weekend.
Kyler Murray can get him to come to OU. The only problem we will have is him starting from day 1 , if he goes to Ole Miss he will start from day 1 , but if he chooses OU its a different story. If we can sell him by guaranteeing him that he will start at RT next year then OU will have his chance to get him.
I would never guarantee a kid a starting spot..no matter what. Too many variables. I would say if you come in and work hard and earn it..we will give you every opportunity to start. If they want to hear more than that…they can go play else where, reeks of entitlement…would have nothing to do with it. If its confidence..then the first statement won’t be an issue. Coached for a bit. Nothing worse than an entitled kid..except for a very talented entitled kid…lol
Haha very true. IMO I believe Ole Miss is Guaranteeing the LT spot for him , so it could be hard swaying him away fro Ole Miss.
yes… Ole Mi$$ is guaranteeing him a $pot
I’ve heard that Little’s uncle is getting paid lots of money for his services.
yes… Ole Mi$$ is guaranteeing him a $pot
He won’t get a guarantee from Stoops
Can start for sec school on day 1, but not for OU. Interesting
Regardless of the conference. Saying a kid can start and them actually being able to is totally different. There are just way too many variables that don’t include talent. Example: Intelligence, desire, coach-ability (don’t think that is a real word), team chemistry, injury, adaptation to college life, maturity, etc. Things that a coach can’t possibly predict for a kid just out of high school. Which is why there are so many that red shirt or washout or “don’t live up to their potential” (considering their potential is a fictitious desire placed on them by professionals, fans or otherwise who are basing it on measurables and historical performances with different variables for a future outcome).
SEC schools will make whatever promises they can to land a kid. We wont. Simple as that.
We have better offensive personnel. We score.
Stealing Little would be HUGE…albeit difficult….the Evans bros, Murray, Little….it’ll be like a HS reunion.
We have the toughest non conference schedule in the country next season, so the narrative for our remaining recruiting days in this cycle should hammer away at our desire for excellence (championships), proof of that, look at our non conference scheduling. Who else in the country will be playing two top ten schools (most likely)? I would think Norman would be a nice destination for highly touted, college ready, impact freshman.
Every SEC game will be a top ten match up. don’t you know?
But of course
All 14 teams should be in the top 10, because Alabama is really good.
Top 10? Pffft! Top 5, baby!
What’s up Chief. Good to see you hanging around here.
Not much, man. Trying to see if my Chiefs can match my Royals! Was hoping the Sooners would follow suit, but alas it was not to be.
I think you understand
Got that right. I remember so many times the season starts with SEC filling all top 10 spots early in the season, and then get beat at home by mid-level teams. I remember ULM beating #7 or so Ark, tying Auburn @ Auburn. This year just look at all the undeserving sec teams that began in the top 10. Remember LsU? the “best team” in the country.
is it fact we have the toughest ooc
Fact may be a strong word, but an educated guess assuming Houston and Ohio State are ranked in the top ten to start the season. If so, unlikely any other team will have two top ten teams in their non conference lineup, let alone two top twenty teams.

Hey Jordan Esco, did you see this request I posted earlier??
Happy New Year everyone. What a turnaround from last year. As
disappointing as the loss to Clemson was, I’m so thankful we made the
playoff. Reflecting on our two losses, our inability to defend the
mobile QB’s was obviously problematic. So, I’d like to make a request
to Esco, Super K, JY, and whoever else can make this happen. Can you
guys put together an analysis geared towards identifying our breakdowns
against mobile QB’s in the past, and also showcase areas for improvement
going forward? It seems we rely to heavily on individuals making plays
rather than having an overall defensive scheme. Other teams seem to
have the ability to stop offenses with mobile QB’s, and we’ve
historically had issues.
Everyone UPVOTE this.
winning the LOS
ot……….nhl reg season is half over this week, amazing
no doubt- All Star game changes are going to be awesome, can’t wait.
no interest in all-star for any sport…….nhl surprises so far, the turnaround for dallas and the turnaround down for ducks……..caps may be legit this yr…….races for playoff spots are tightening up, should be interesting to the end
Yep and my Sharks finally made it above .500…lol

Fingers crossed.
Thats a good update!
the jefferson deal is confusing
Charles Walker wants that Natty.
so do i, for what it matters. Missed on a good opportunity this year
The huge plus is that OU’s biggest obstacles this year to a national title will be strengths next season: OL & DL.
The offensive line looks like it could be better, overall, than this year. The three young guns will have another year under their belt, plus Bedenbaugh has recruited some maulers for the interior line that are coming off redshirt.
On the defensive side, we have several talented DL that are also coming off redshirt. There are a number of big time talents that are waiting for their opportunity next year.
Are we waiting for any commits at the Army AA game this weekend?
None that I’m aware of
Thank you, sir.
Anything from Jordan Evans? Around the Sanchez news, I heard that Evans was considering leaving early. I haven’t heard anything else on him.
Probably not with that injury.
Was there an official injury report for Jordan? I hadn’t seen anything.
I had read that it was a partially torn pectoral
I thought I saw that it was according to Bob.
Torn pec? Those things are brutal.
Yeah they are, I had a full rupture some years back. Sucked. A partially torn one I think means he doesn’t need surgery, but still a tough injury.
6 week recovery? Spring ball iffy at this point.
Very iffy, I would keep him out of all contact. Just have him run around the 7 on 7s.
Definitely no spring game. Time for the younguns to earn their keep.
One of my sons just tore his. He’s in a lot of pain. He’s a wheelchair athlete (very, very strong upper body) who has represented the U.S. internationally in the shot, discus and javelin (and won a gold, a couple of silvers and a few bronzes–not bragging at all, any more than Mohammad Ali!) but b/c he’s in a chair, he uses his pecs, so it probably even worse.
From what I saw no contact for 3 months…yeesh
yeah, it’d be ill-advised to try to enter the draft with an injury (like this one)
What is his injury?
Partially torn pec.
Thanks. I scrolled down later and saw that. Took Nelson awhile to get over that.
Good news and relief to know Walker likely will be with us next year. Hope Evans stays, too.
WalterFootball.com has Zack Sanchez going to the Raiders 78th overall. Tapper to the Bills with the 81st pick overall. Shepard to the Texans with 85th pick overall. This is a wayyyyy to early projection but they are usually pretty good and they only go through the 4th round with their picks. I seen a site that had Dom going 48th overall to Indy, Shep 51st to the Jets, Xak to the Bucs with 74th pick, Tapper 89th to KC, Striker 130th to SF. Not sure that Dom gets selected that high Shep could be anywhere from a 1st to 3rd round kid though no lower I think, depending on the combine!
Same site that had Tom Wort going in the 2nd round at one point.
Fuller and treadwell coming out probably pushed his stock down a little. I hope he goes early, but wouldnt be shocked to see him last till end of the 2nd/early 3rd.
Clint : i’m with you …..much rather have Shepard before Sanchez if I’m a NFL GM………….
Shepard could go in the first round. Don’t be surprised. I don’t see him going past the second round.
I didn’t even give a second thought to Charles Walker leaving. THANKS GUYS.
Charles was a Sophomore this year, not a Junior.
RS Sophomore– That’s a 3rd year in eligibility and a Junior as far as credits. He’s eligible.
https://twitter.com/adamgorney/status/684118744856051712
I am guessing UCLA!!!
Probably UCLA but OleMi$$ might just up the offer : )
He is rooming with Kelly though so don’t think he is hearing all about OU, as I am sure he may be in his ear as well. But Kelly is saying come on you, me, and BY the next Cali trio!
I’ll take C Kelly and BY and anyone else. I want a top 14 Class.
Zero surprise there for me but it would have been super awesome to have to a new Cali Trio of LB’s
uggh, dont get the fascination with ole miss.
Treadwell, tunsil and ndemichke(sp) were all just as good as freshman as they were as juniors. Which basically means they didnt develop there, ole piss simply landed cant miss prospects.
$$$$$$$$$$$$SEC$$$$$$$$$$$$
No UW? If your final decision is between Jim Mora and Pississippi then you lack the decision making skills to be a Sooner. Peace.
Jordan, how is Ole Miss doing this?
Paying players a cool grand for each “visit” they take.
This talk of paying players is silly. SEC schools love getting each other in trouble. If there was anything like this going on at Ole Miss, they would already have been busted for it by now.
Bagmen are quiet, like ninjas.
and they are graceful too..lol
They are the second generation of ninjas: they operate in broad daylight.
I’m sure they started getting Bama quality recruiting classes out of nowhere honestly and legitimately. LOL!!
Happens all the time. I suppose Herman is playing players at Houston too, huh? Freeze is a players coach and a great recruiter. New coaches change recruiting at schools all the time.
Ole Miss has been hammered by the NCAA multiple times. Most recently in 1994 when they were banned from television for a year, banned from the post-season for two years, and put on four year probation.
Remember when LaQuan Treadwell tweeted this back in 2013 and immediately took the tweet down?
Kinda like OU after Switzer was gone?
What’s that got to do with Ole Miss in 2016? Ole Miss has never been OU and never will be.
You were going back to 1994 implying program history impacts present day.
Fair enough. We DID have some issues. Bomar for example.
https://twitter.com/MattSMorris/status/361673020575715328
Houston had immediate success this year, and sits in one of the hotbeds of recruiting in all of the US. All their big commitments were from the local area.
Ole miss does not reside in fertile recruiting ground, and immediately started landing kids outside of their success level.
Apples and oranges.
Guess you missed the part where tunsil’s step dad flat out said laremy got paid to go to ole miss.
NCAA is investigating.
Until it’s proven, I don’t believe it’s going on anymore there than at OU. I guess we will just wait and see.
it’ll never be “proven”, unless someone was stupid enough to keep records, which is kinda the whole point of using bagmen. Nothing tying the school to the kid.
The step dad got kicked out of the house, and he blew up tunsil’s spot. He was getting paid by agents more than a year ago(not the fault of ole miss), hence why he didnt play this year.
Step dad said he got gifts by ole miss during recruitment, and that they had to alter his academic records to even get him enrolled.
Pretty obvious OU isnt doing anything similar, all you have to do is compare our recruiting rank with theirs.
7-5 teams dont grab 3 legit 5 stars out of nowhere.
Boosters tend to be the source of the problems. I think Stoops spends as much time keeping the, away than he does having to keep his staff NCAA complient.
But that’s boosters not the head coach.
In this day and age, coaches know whats going on in their programs.
Its a kill or be killed environment, theres plenty of coaches who probably dont care how they land kids, only that they get them.
Even in the off chance they dont know, its still a violation, and will get you hit with a lack of institutional control penalty.
Wasn’t there an internet pic of three Bama recruits flashing their wads of $100 bills with the caption of “Payday!” on it just a couple of years ago? I saw it with my own eyes.
And 1 in front of a new car, as I remember.
Henry tweeted a picture of himself with a brand new sports car. Dee liner (Alabama) posted a pic of himself and his friends holding stacks of cash. DJ Fluker tweeted out that he took money while at Alabama and dared everybody to “cast the first stone”. His agent claims his twitter account was hacked.
Some of that was explained away as they take their student loans, as if they are paying for their education and using the cash. Where there’s smoke….
Not true at all. They are being investigated and the SEC doesn’t tell on each other or they’d all be in trouble. Cam Newton was actively looking for a payment to his “church”.
Agreed this “bag man” theory is stale. Besides, it sounds downright hypocritical. Back In Switzer’s day and before OU was a cash cow for its players.
lol, guess you didnt read this article then. The info came from an SEC bagman.
Its nowhere near “stale”, its currently happening right now
http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/4/10/5594348/college-football-bag-man-interview
Coeds? Campus? Other than that…I gots nuthin…lol
Momentum, SEC, Cash, and it seems to be the “cool” place to be.
something is definitely going on there, and winning isn’t one of them.
This was out of the blue. I didn’t know he was taking a visit. Ole Miss has somehow manage to make his final list and they really haven’t been involved. That smells.
Sooners recruiting goes down after some mediocre to great years. Ole miss has never been relevant but has pulled in top 5 recruiting classes the last 4 years?
$$$
An institution of higher learning: 😉

Ole Mi$$ *
Everything I have read about their head coach is he is one classy guy. He Calls recruits after national signing day who have committed elsewhere to wish them luck. In his interviews he comes across as a genuinely nice guy. Now the Mississippe Stare coach comes off as a used car salesman. They have garnered a rather impressive collection of athletes just can’t seem to get all the parts going at the same time.
Ole Miss? damn it.
Why not snag two independent schools to shore up the Big XII, Notre Dame and BYU, thoughts?
If this was to happen we would definately have the diversity thing covered with the Churches, Baptist, Catholic, Christian and Mormon (Alphabetical order, 2015 was the year of the offended._
A First Amendment safe haven
A First Amendment safe haven
If this was to happen we would definately have the diversity thing covered with the Churches, Baptist, Catholic, Christian and Mormon (Alphabetical order, 2015 was the year of the offended._
Notre Dame wouldn’t join the BIG XII under any circumstance.
I believe they would consider if the $$$ was right
nd fanbase would revolt at the prospect of playing most of the b12 teams
And just where would this money come from?
T Boone and my drunk uncle
The Pope
Seriously, I don’t think ND would ever consider any conference with their TV schedule, I would think BYU would have a pretty large TV audience, UU and USU are both smaller schools. Maybe another eastern or south eastern school would be attractive.
It’s a double standard, we get grief for not having twelve teams and a conference championship game. The playoff system should deem any independent team ineligible for NC consideration. Unfair independent schools can cherry pick their entire schedule from year to year, where other schools have limited non-conference availability.
That’s exactly what happens too. ND’s schedule is always rated high enought to consider it “playoff worthy” if they go throught the season undeated/1 loss.
They do play people like USC and Stanford every year as well as OU/Clemson. But they lose two or more.
The playoff system does make it more difficult for them to make it in not being a conf champ. They must be”unequivocally” better than a top 4 conf champ to knock them out.
I would like to see OU bolt for another conference.
It would cost OU too much to leave, but if the Big 12 were to fold….
As defunct as the Big XII can be, it’d be hard to hold OU to an agreement, I think. I mean, there’s a lot going on that isn’t in the best interest of OU, financially.
Actually, we have a very profitable TV deal. I can’t imagine how we could get out of the deal. I’ve heard several people say that it is iron clad. If we leave today, we forfeit about $250M.
Is that OU’s real market value, full earning potential?
From what I hear, yes. The Big XII deal is one of the best when considering only 10 to divide it between.
Thanks!
I hope this is the information you are asking for, OU’s Rev from athletics is $135,660,070, OU’s exp from athletics is $124,732,244, OU’s cost per athlete is $170,866d. Is that what you are asking?
If I’m reading it correctly it’s roughly $26M/year thru 2025, so you are right.
Let’s just go independent then and play schedules like they do. Maybe we get an independent TV deal to equal or come close to ND.
Now that’s truly being a maverick, Maverick 🙂
Because the teams that were viable options for expansion have been taken. Notre Dame has a contract that basically forces them to go ACC should they ever affiliate with a conference.
Doubtful that would hold up if they wanted out
Notre Dame is ACC in every sport except football. There’s no way they’ll be able to join a second conference just for football.
I never really meant for my comment to be taken this seriously, merely a thought. Since you’ve mentioned it, the ACC agreement doesn’t seem to be very strong if ND opted out their football program and remained independent, and appears to be an indication they can do whatever they want. I’m also sure all other sports would follow the football program if they ever decided to join a conference.
I also heard UConn is in the running. How did we ever let Colorado, Nebraska,MO and TAMU go?? We should shutter this lame conference down…. or revolt if they add Houston to the league.
The biggest recruit for ’16 is Charles Walker!
I’ll wait till the 18th before I celebrate.
yes, can’t celebrate until after signing dates
I’m sure I’m late to the party but great news on Walker!
Pretty sure Charles Walker is a Sophomore, so he’ll be back at least one more year. Hopefully more.
Redshirt sophomore, three years removed from h.s., meaning by rule he is draft eligible.
What grade did he receive?
Probably hasn’t even been looked at because of his class #.
https://twitter.com/_tmoe55/status/684132774857412608
lol
I guess that’s good news?
That hasn’t been announced yet.
Now we have announcement times for announcement times? Kids are just silly these days.
Yea, he held a press conference to announce that he may be announcing.
I’ve got a good idea. Let’s publicly ridicule the kid while he’s trying to decide if he wants to be a Sooner!
Easy, killer. You gotta admit making an announcement about your announcement about whether you’ll make an announcement is kinda silly.
I don’t think he really gives a hoot what we think. He will be a Sooner if he really wants to
I don’t think he really gives a hoot what we think. He will be a Sooner if he really wants to
I believe he announced yesterday that he was going to put out this tweet today.
This ish is tiring. I give up on keeping track of these things. Sign with us or not, just stick with a decision. But then again, that’s why I’m not paid the big bucks, wake me up in Feb
Just looked through the CBS Draft Player rankings as of today. Here’s what I saw:
-Shep 2nd round rank 8
-D. Alexander 3rd round rank 4
-Sanchez 3rd round rank 11
-Strike 3-4 round rank 12
-Tapp 3-4 round rank 12
-Nila 7 or FA rank 19
Everyone else is projected FA if they pursue the NFL.

Ty? Shep?
Sorry refresh.
Cool. Personally, I think Dom is a bit high. But, I’m not an NFL GM.
Yeah I was surprised he’s that high too, but really other than Scooby it looks like a pretty average class at ILB this year.
Yeah I was looking through the list and I kept saying, “Who the hell is that?”
Hahaha exactly.
Kentrell Brothers #2. Whoops.
Ohio State has alot of guys coming out, high rounds.
Just saying he’s from Guthrie. Don’t remember us offering that year. We took Lindley and Shannon at LB that class.
Boykin just screwed himself. Better hope he gets invited to the combine.
He just added more question marks…the kind that can’t be measured…
Significant loses.
I expected this guy to be better looking.
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1995673/cassanova-mckinzy
LOL
Shep will get drafted, and I may get ridiculed for saying this, but I don’t see him having much success in the NFL. The one exception would be if he landed on a team like NE that seems to get a bunch out of WR’s like him.
By saying, “I may get ridiculed for saying this,” you already recognize the ridiculousness of your statement.
There is no may about it, you’re being ridiculed.
I think he’ll be good. I can see him at Pitt or GB, where they run alot of option routes and the qb scrambles alot. He’s got great hands good routes pretty fearless finds openings in zones and does ok against man.
Amazing after the catch
I see him in NE in the slot. He runs good routes.
We’ll see. OU hasn’t had a WR do much of anything in the NFL. I know that alone doesn’t mean much, but there is no doubt that Shep isn’t the prototypical NFL WR. He isn’t speedy. He isn’t big. He is simply a good route runner with good hands. It’s hit and miss with guys like that having success in the NFL. Hope he does, he deserves it. Just not sure.
It will come down to health and WR depth for Shep. The problem for OU WRs at NFL has been injury. Malcolm Kelly, T Wislon and Broyles all had really injury problems. The only guys that I think didn’t have injury problems was Iglesias.
Mark Clayton had a decent career. Kenny Stills? Jalen?
Mark yes very good career. Stills has been avg. Jalen has steady been on 4 rosters not much production yet
You will get ridiculed a bit for sure as it is extremely frowned upon to give anything conceived to be a negative opinion on an OU player regardless of how much you love the guy.
The ridicule won’t be as bad as it could as you did not mention anyone that may be better that plays for another team or conference so you did ok there.
Darlington will be a late round pick at best and Shepherd just doesn’t have the height or speed to impress at the
underwear olympicscombine.OU needs to get back in the business of putting guys in the 1st round because that’s definitely something other teams will point out when recruiting against us.
Ouch, long ways from the days we placed some meat in the first rounds
update added
I’ve refreshed a couple of times, but I’m not seeing it.
Me neither
Second.
Not showing yet J
Kapri Doucet offer? Juco LB..
Demetric Warren just predicted Doucet will commit to OU
He decommitted from Zona earlier today after they let go of some defensive staff..
https://twitter.com/hit_squad_4/status/684143935434940416
Not seeing it yet.
tk to tam……..hope he does well, doesn’t get embarrassed at some point
ofc?
Yup
Trevor, good luck.
I mentioned yesterday we need LBs that can run sideline to sideline with their hair on fire……Doucet would fit the bill. That kid can RUN.
And they need to be 240+. These 220 lb backers need to go.
Yeah a 6’4 255 100 tackle LB that runs a 4.4 would be nice!
Bosworth was 225 right? What was the Steeler MLB? He weighed 270 at one point dropping into coverage?
Oh yeah Kirkland, he was a big dude.
there have been several : Lavon Kirkland, james Harrison—to name two….A Steeler rookie LB—Bud Dupree is 6-4,265 but is not a starter just yet…………..
Dom is going…Evans and Evans are both around 240. Not sure about Bolton without looking. We need speed first and size second against these running qbs
Can he tackle? Not a fan of how we always fall backwards while tackling.
Looks like he’s a pretty good tackler….
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4515681/highlights/294907380/v2
Yep, didn’t watch it all but looks like he at least wraps up and doesn’t just go for the kill shot. Definitely has some speed.
https://thefootballbrainiacs.com/ou-oklahoma-sooners-football-report-trevor-knight-transferring-to-texas-am?GD_NONCE=53214bf2a1
2014 kid who came out of VA listed 6’2 185 4.5 according to rivals. Kid can scoot and wraps up when he hits.
Im ready for the ol Sooner push to close out recruiting already! We still have about 10 spots.
When does the dead period end?
I think it opens up next week until the end of the month.
KJ,
What is your take on who we get in this last month or recruiting? Also, have you heard of anybody else that is transferring?
I haven’t heard of any more transfers. I think we are close to Bledsoe out of Kansas and we seem to be in good standing with Tramandous. I hope we add guys in the trenches in the last month. We need em.
I think with the guys we have now and redshirting it looks like a good bunch. They look the part but can they play the part? Time will tell. Thanks for the info. I hope we get both those guys. Impressive on film.
agreed, that’s where we lose when we lose
End Jan 13th.
OU needs to go back to recruiting D.Jackson. We need a true ILB.
BS always flips someone…we need to remember that we have a 5 star qb transfer coming in…I always include those situations when evaulating a given class.
Didn’t Walker have concussion issues in high school? Can anyone verify this? Little worried about his long term health in this regard.
He had shoulder trouble if I remember right
Does the need to add a juco LB come from any sort of worry about kelly? Lord i hope not.
It probably means that Dominique Alexander decided to go pro. Most likely we are going JUCO to even out the classes since we have only one Jr LB on the roster.
This kid is an OLB though. Unless we are going to convert him, i dont see alexander leaving opening up a spot for an OLB.
Wouldnt concern me at all if he was an ILB.
Bond is leaving too.
True, but i feel pretty good about the future at OLB. ILB scares me.
Could have something to do with the Pernell Jefferson rumors about him looking elsewhere. Pernell is an OLB.
Thats a good point, Hope thats the case.
Thats a good point, Hope thats the case.
Both Bolton and Evans are inside guys..throw in what we get this year. We could go the juco route next year if needed but I’m sure we will have three or four serviceable ILBS next year
I dont think we have any ILB’s committed, and dont really have any close to committing.
Thats worrisome(to me).
Both Tay and Bolton were listed as OLBs coming out of hs for what its worth
Probably gonna be playing ILB now lol.
Bolton is a big kid. Hope hes ready to lay some wood.
They have been playing ILB…btw Doucet is listed as a OLBSS..Alexander and Shannon were both SS is hs
I knew bolton was, didnt know tay moved to ILB.
Tay was Doms back up…#9..big boy..he put Jordans weight on a year earlier…I edited my other post while you were responding
Did tay get any action this year? dont recall hearing his name any.
Mop up a few times. Dom stayed pretty healthy and was assignment sound so he didn’t leave the field
Better than nothing.
Tay has been Dom’s back up.
Striker,
Bond,
Alexander all gone.
shannon and pl lindley too.
I hope it comes from D.A. leaving “unexpectedly”….
Wouldnt it make sense to grab an ILB to replace dom though?
Yes, but they may have plans for some of the guys we have on the roster already. Well see.
I hope thats the case. The lack of buzz from kelly lately has me a little antsy.
Me too actually.
juarez eliminating OU while rooming with kelly isnt helping either lol.
I think we were eliminated before that. Not sure it makes you feel any better though. LOL
Probably true, the timing didnt help though lol.
Depends on what else you have on the roster. DA leaving opens up a scholly. Then you look at what you need, not what has left.
True, but what do we have left at ILB? evans, the hulk…maybe bolton. Yeesh, seems thin.
Is DeBerry inside or outside?
Outside
hes an olb/de
I dont know if Arthur will see alot of action. He will need to improve ALOT from what they saw in practice.
Ouch. if we still run 2 ILB in next years scheme, we better pray for no injuries.
So McGinnis is not a talent?
So McGinnis is not a talent?
If I remember correctly he came in way out of shape/overweight. Offseason and summer with Schmitty and Byrd should benefit him.
Ya he did. He had a back injury that limited him, so he put on a bunch of bad weight.
What about Bolton? Kid looked to have a ton of talent in HS.
EDIT: NVM, missed the ILB part of that.
That 247 site shows Kelly 100%. I assume the juco is because of Dom.
Probably to do with the Pernell Jefferson rumors. Pernell was an OLB.
Kelly is still considering ND & Oregon besides OU…………wouldn’t be a major surprise if Oregon isn’t the real threat : closer to home and the PAC 12 is a far superior conference………
So superior, that they didn’t make the playoffs and their second best team got beat by a Big 12-2 team playing with a back up Qb!
ND i could understand, they have a good history with linebackers, plus a great academic university.
Cant think of a single oregon LB in the NFL though.
They sent Casey Matthews.
Good call, forgot he was a duck.
Please define the criteria you’re using to state the Pac 12 is “a far superior conference”.
Get a new team in the far superior conference and go away.
ATTN: Recruits,

Wow!!
Buddy Love
https://twitter.com/mhouckOU/status/684076591392014336
Noonan!
OU didn’t make Mique Juarez’s final 2. I really though they had a chance with him
Me too but we got a lot of other LB recruits to focus on now.
I figured we’d be in his top 3 or something, to be honest. The Ole Mi$$ thing is just crazy…
He’ll stay home is my guess living out here. I sure would like to know what he said to Caleb in their room about OU. It’s frustrating not being able to get a kid’s perception.
Brainiacs any thoughts why we are offering a late JUCO LB. it seems like we have a lot of guys at the position even with Dom leaving.
How could Jefferson violate team rules without his coach knowing it ??
I did a bunch of stuff my coach never knew about
So you are telling me his HS coach knows nothing about any team violation yet OU does ?
Im telling you I did a bunch of stuff my coach never knew about
Maybe he violated OU team rules?
His coach is not the coach of the team that has had said rules potentially violated.
For those that didn’t watch Doucets hudl, he is listed as a OLBSS 233. He is very likely an offer to shore up the ILB numbers
Clearly, we recruit Lbs to defend against the air raid. Hence, the 225 lb guys. The last ILB that could move a pile back was really Lofton. Could have used him against Percy Harvin and Tebow. Reynolds and the late A Box were also tough against the run. Think of the size of the Lbs through the Stoop years. Where are the Torrance Marshall’s’ or Lofton’s?
Hopefully that trend is changing
good for ksu……..they open with stanford in ’16
KSU’s been playing solid OOC’s for a while now (this past season being an anomaly), as has everybody in the conference, with one green & gold exception. Hopefully they grow a pair & start stepping their slates up, although I’m not holding my breath waiting on it.
James Hale…just keep your credit cards close when he’s around.
