Marcel Southall: Caught up with 2016 DT, Marcel Southall’s father this week to see where things stand with OU and Southall and when an announcement could be coming. Marcel’s father reiterated their interest in OU saying, “Everything (with OU) is looking real good…top to bottom they’ve been A1”. Southall recently took his official visit to OU which was his second visit.

Southall said the official visit was even better than the unofficial visit they took in the summer. To give you a sense of how positive that is, after the unofficial visit this past summer Southall told me OU was at or near the top because of the visit.

The family is really excited about the Sooners making it to the playoffs, “we are going to be watching to see when the dust settles if OU will be holding the trophy”. We also talked about how good OU could potentially be next year and Southall noted that based on the personnel he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Sooners win it, “back to back in the Big 12”.

Southall tells me that they will visit Oklahoma State this weekend. They planned on committing at the bowl game but it sounds like they’ve got a few more visits they’d like to take so they’re considering pushing the commitment date back close to February. Southall says they’d still like to visit Ole Miss and Florida to finish off their visits. – (Super K)

Jackson Winrow: Back in mid-November I introduced our readers to an under-the-rader in-state 2016 WR named Jackson Winrow (Shawnee, OK). I’m so happy to report that he was offered by Vanderbilt last night. I spoke to his father, Randy yesterday and it was really heart warming to hear the overwhelming joy in his voice. Jackson is a kid who is so naturally good at sports that he really didn’t realize just how good he is and can be at football. This has really taken them by surprise. If you haven’t had a chance to look at his film, I recommend it. – (Super K)

Weekend Visitors: We are still poking around trying to find out who all will be in Norman this weekend but as of now these are some of the expected visitors. We are told there will be more:

Mique Juarez (Torrance, CA) – OU recently did an in-home with Juarez and he is expected to visit this weekend. This one is going to be an uphill battle as most feel he will stay in state. But OU has had juice with the Cali kids for a while so if he makes it in for a visit, who knows what could happen.

Jack Jones (Long Beach, CA) – Another uphill battle here for a guy most think will stay in-state. But OU has an offense he’d probably prefer!

Parnell Motley (Washington D.C.) – Motley is a defensive back that Kerry Cooks has been recruiting for a while and despite picking up some prospects at the position, the Sooners still seem interested in Motley. He is currently committed to Maryland but they let go of the staff he committed to.

Tramonda Moore (Oklahoma City, OK) – Moore has been to Norman a lot, so coming again sure can’t be a bad thing.

– UPDATE (1:56 pm): Sooners miss out on one of their top remaining 2016 WR targets, Tyrie Cleveland.

– UPDATE (4:26 pm):

– UPDATE (8:22 pm): So much for that Jack Jones visit.

    Nice. Momentum.

  • OceanDescender says:

It’s my favorite part of yall’s open posts when very under the radar guys that y’all really like and give exposure to get their first offer to play collegiate football. Whether it’s OU or not, that is very very well done!

    • NVSooner says:

      Couldn’t agree more.

    • Doobie74OU says:

I love how excite Super K gets. You would think he was this kids Coach or Uncle or something but he just gets that excited when kids get their shot!

      • Golfluvr13 says:

You could almost see the glow coming off of him on twitter last night when he was talking about it.

      • paganpink says:

He pulls for them regardless of what team they eventually choose. I think that’s one of the reasons they speak so freely with him. He’s a fan of college football and not someone trying to sell them on his favorite school.

      • OceanDescender says:

Yup, some really awesome folks running this site.

  • Brian says:

I know Daniels and EMB make their announcements next week, but I’d love for OU to get another couple commitments soon! Wish Southall would just seal the deal already but I understand wanting to see other places before making such a big decision. Marcel is a great fit for a 3-4 DE.

    • JD says:

Well if what Riley says is true we have a couple silent commits since we are turning guys away

    • Doobie74OU says:

I wish all these guys would commit as well but I guess I can’t blame them for taking 5 OV(free vacations). Probably the first time most of these kids get to travel that much and at 17 or 18 that would be a blast!

    • Kevin Burger says:

Hopefully we aren’t misinterpreting them. Keep an eye out for a double backwards somersault through a hoop while whistling the star spangled banner.

Dolphins are smart. I’ll take it.

Big football fans too, from what I hear. Did you know that they surround sharks and butt them to death? And that Orlando Brown is their favorite player?

Is Withrow ‘OU good” now that he has a viable D-1 offer to Vandy ??

Striker made 1st team as well. Honorable mentions went to Perine, Shep, Sanchez, and Tapper. I noticed Keyarris Garrett out of TU made honorable mention. I thought he deserved some AA love this post-season. He will be good in the league, I think.

  • JD says:

Ive seen Juarez and Jones predicted to UW and ATM by some so I think there should be a shot with both..at least Juarez would be staying along the coast though if he chose UW (it was UW reporters that crystal balled him to UW btw)

    • AmaGoh7 says:

Isn’t that A$M swagcopter falling like a lead balloon ? LOL. Oh, wait, they’ve still got the hair salon to trump that ’cause it’s sure not there football and never has been. LOL.
      Come on down guys

  • OUn8v says:

Queston…I keep reading some bragging about Clemson being 15-0 and that has never been done before What am I missing when OU has “the streak”? I’m a little slow on some days anymore. 🙂 Thanks

    • Doobie74OU says:

I think it would have to be 15-0 in one season! When OU had the streak they didn’t play that many games per year and even undefeated teams a couple years ago would only be 13-0 so they must just mean it in the sense that no one has ever done it in one football season!

      • Cush Creekmont says:

I see. However, it will still remain “never been done” after this season ends.

      • Clay Davis says:

Yeah, I’ve heard a lot of talk about Clemson proving themselves the greatest team of all time, and finally figured out that they were talking about undefeated regular season plus 2 postseason games. It’s not that long ago that undefeated teams went 14-0, and I’d rate our 2000 team above this year’s Clemson team, even if Clemson did manage to finish it undefeated.

      • OUn8v says:

What about USC a few years back?

        • Doobie74OU says:

BYU had a chance in 96 and went 14-1 and Since 2000 (5) teams have finished 14-0 ( OSU 02′, Boise State & Bama 09′, Auburn 10′, and FSU 13′ ) and (7) teams have finished 13-0 (OU 00′, USC & Auburn 04′, Texass 05′, Boise State 06′, Utah 08′, TCU 10′) and a couple other 12-0 including Ohio State last year

    • Cush Creekmont says:

My guess is CLEMSON has never been 15-0 before. Assuming going back to last year.

    • Kevin Burger says:

I respect Clemson a lot, and I think that Clemson and Oklahoma are equally good. So equally good, that I believe they will both finish with a 13-1 record.

      • Cush Creekmont says:

        Ah…I see what you did.

      • Recondo says:

Funny. In all seriousness, I think this is the real NC game. Whoever wins the Orange Bowl wins the second game.

        • Kevin Burger says:

Probably. I can already hear Bama’s excuses for whichever game they lose. “Well Kirby had already accepted another job, so he wasn’t focused on the game.”

        • Daryl says:

Sorry but I disagree. All 4 of these teams are strong. Whoever wins will have to be at their best for 2 games. None of these teams are going to lay down and hand a NC over

    • Brien Brown says:

I could be wrong but didn’t Marshall go 15-0 and win the Mac in like 1996-97 with Chad Pennington and Randy Moss

    • Recondo says:

Yale went 16-0 in 1894. I believe 15-0 would be a record season in “modern” (post-WWII) football. Of course, we own the only win streak that matters.

    • roygbell says:

15 – 0 for the if hey win the NC. No one has ever won 15 football games in a year.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

Did anyone else see somewhere that the Pac 12 officials will be working the Orange Bowl? If so…….yikes.

  • j l says:

If riley is talking about silent commits, does that mean said commits are on the offensive side of the ball?

I cant think of any offensive guys that might be a silent commit, outside moore maybe?

Cleveland would be nice, but i bet hes one we gotta fight to the end to get, if at all.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • JD says:

Man if we miss on either Jones its gonna sting a bit

  • SoonerGray says:

Could there literally be a worse decision to be made then to ‘stay’ in Houston? I guess you could ‘stay’ in hell or ‘stay’ in detroit, but Houston is a close 2nd.

Houston is so bad, they pronounce one of the biggest streets in Manhattan House-ten (spelled Houston) just so they don’t have to utter that word.

    • Kevin Burger says:

All decisions that involve not committing to Oklahoma when given the option are equally bad.

    • Boom says:

Houston has a good program and it’s becoming better. Head coach is shaking things up and they are spending money at the university so they can be accepted into a big conf.
BTW – I live in houston and it’s 80 today. Not bad if you ask me.

      • JD says:

Which big conference will they get in..the only logical one is B12 and I dont see others wanting to add them…I sure dont

        • Boom says:

Others? Interesting, Bowlsby has met with them. I’m not saying Houston is the answer but they are in the conversation per officials.

          • JD says:

We add no revenue by adding the Houston market. We already have it. It wouldn’t surprise me though. We have the least competent guys in front office. We need to get South Fla or even Memphis before Houston

          • Boom says:

So we have the Houston market? Who views what in Houston. That is incorrect.

          • Mr. Jones says:

I hope they don’t. It would only dilude recruiting down for all other big 12 teams. See TCU.

          • JD says:

Yeah I didn’t want to add TCU for that reason…we are losing guys to them now and we didn’t add a market. Makes no sense to add them. You have to wonder if texas politics didn’t play a role

          • Boom says:

We are losing guys to Houston and other schools too. We don’t get all of them. It all works out.

          • Drew says:

True, but if Houston can’t get into a P5 school, it won’t continue. Herman will leave, their recruiting will drop, and they’ll be back to just another G5 team. We add them to the B12 though? They’ll be stealing more than just the occasional recruit, and we have yet ANOTHER rising TX team to compete with.

          • hemisooner says:

We have too many Texsa schools. I would rather have central florida and south florida.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

That would be our best options, hands down, but I don’t see it ever happening. We at least had a chance to go that direction once and didn’t.

          • hemisooner says:

BIG 12 doesn’t have too many good options

          • Boom says:

            I don’t disagree, make it 14 schools.

      • hemisooner says:

Houston just wants in the BIG 12. And I will ask you how is the weather in the summertime.

        • Boom says:

It’s fine, I like the heat. and you live?

          • hemisooner says:

giving you a hard time, hahahaha. I used stay in Phoenix in the summertime growing up. Hotter than you know what but it’s not humid. I can take the heat but humidity gets me everytime. Plus the traffic sucks but the people are really nice.

        • paganpink says:

Hellish. If Hell had 90% humidity and traffic so bad I once ran into stop and go traffic at 2:00 AM on Monday morning. The crime rates about the same though. Gorgeous 73 degrees here with low humidity- and 4 seasons in the year.

          • hemisooner says:

Heck, I lived in El Paso for almost a year. Hot and nothing do to beside cross the border = sucks.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I went to watch OU play Stanford in the Sun Bowl. That was a terrible scene just across the border.

          • hemisooner says:

it has changed a lot in the last 30 years. It wasn’t near as bad back then.

          • paganpink says:

The last time I was in Matamoros about five years ago it wasn’t just gritty “stay to the tourist markets” bad- it was flat out scary! Even the tooth pick chewing federales with AK’S were unfriendly and scary. OMG. What a rough town. I won’t go into Mexico anymore until they restore the rule of law. And not “he who has the most money IS the law”

          • hemisooner says:

Matamoros is a dump. I love Rocky Point (puerto penasco). Going there in late March. Great beach

    • Doobie74OU says:

I never fault a kid for wanting to stay close to home because I don’t know his personal circumstances but a program like Houston for an elite talent is hard to get. The offense they run now will be great and they are playing well but another good year and they will be looking for another head coach. If Houston decides on a defensive guy he could run a conservative ground based offensive attack. It is no telling what their future will be!

  • Jesse says:

How important is Velus Jones now? Think we dish out a couple more offers or go all in on Jones?

    • JD says:

Jack Jones is visiting…might be a long shot but some have pegged him to ATM and he’s a Cail guy so who knows

      • Jesse says:

If we can get Jack Jones that’d be huge. And as long as we actually get him on campus we have a shot. Never know with recruiting. Really hope we can pull at least one though, both would be better.

        • JD says:

Yeah I was hoping for Velus and Cleveland..at least Cleveland is going to Houston and not Baylor or another conference foe (although we do have them on the schedule)..would be nice to get Jack..I won’t count it out..we have some other Cali recruits and surely they are recruiting him…Even though he didn’t pan out I was super excited we landed Derek Woods out of LA a few years back

    • Jordan Esco says:

Argument to be made he was always OU’s top remaining target. I think there is a strong case to be made he’s always been the better fit for this offense, fwiw.

      • JD says:

makes you wonder if he’s maybe a silent and Cleveland was one of the guys Riley was talking about when he said they were turning away recruits…didnt know Cleveland had a set date to announce

      • Fear The Magic says:

We should probably ask for our birthday cake back

  • RBear says:

Houston’s going to be a tough team for awhile- are they the new Baylor?

    • Doobie74OU says:

If they can keep their coach they may be! Never know how a new coach mixes things up!

    • JD says:

More like the new Boise State with no chance to dance

      • RBear says:

IDK, if the Big XII is looking to expand, I wouldn’t rule them out. I really don’t want another texas team but it would make sense at least geographically.

        • Kevin Burger says:

I’m thinking if an expansion happens, then it’ll be something out WVU’s way.

          • Kevin Burger says:

Assuming we don’t draw in anyone from the ACC, SEC, or Big 10, some teams to consider would be Cincy, Southern Florida (Tampa Bay is a surprisingly good college football tv market), and Temple. Philly isn’t as good of a college football market, but you might be able to change that.

          • JD says:

Even Memphis and Tulane would be better than grabbing Houston

        • Boom says:

And recruiting wise. I’m not touting Houston but if they get in I won’t be disappointed. 4th largest demographics in the nation.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

We’ve recruited the Houston area well in the past and I don’t see where adding Houston to the conference would help us in that respect.

          • RBear says:

Unfortunately, the Big XII is not going to consult only with OU on how it would affect them.

          • JD says:

Pretty sure they have to be unanimous on big decisions

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

And I wouldn’t think Texas would want them in either.

          • JD says:

Nope…texsa is already losing recruits because of the way things are going right now

          • Boom says:

UT doesn’t have the same pull they once did.

          • JD says:

shoulda kept Mack on as a consultant lol

          • RBear says:

If expansion does happen, my dream teams to add are readmitting Nebraska and adding Iowa. I know I’ve said this before but it makes a lot of sense to me.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I could get on board with this, although Nebraska and Iowa probably wouldn’t.

          • JD says:

That would be nice. I dont see Iowa leaving though..Dont really see NU but would see them more likely too

          • Boom says:

Neb will never work with Texsa again so that is pipe dream. I would like both schools but it’s not reality IMO. Big 12 won’t get the big name schools as they will be tied in to their conf. Baylor was a no body and if it wasn’t for the governor, they wouldn’t be in the conf. However, look at them now and the same case can be stated for TCU.

          • Sooner_Ace says:

agreed, but not likely to leave BIG

          • Jed says:

            No one lives there

          • Recondo says:

I remember this from a previous OP. I love those two programs for athletics. Financially, I don’t think the $$$ hungry B12 goes for it. I still say L’ville and Pitt but I think I’m the only one in the country beating that drum. USF &/or UCF would also be viable, imo.

          • ouwooferman says:

I live in Houston. This buys us nothing. The TV coverage and B12 recruiting is massive. We will be diluting the pot. We need access to other markets and widen our TV income. JMO

        • JD says:

Geographically is the only sense it makes lol..we need to go east..Memphis would be a better option if were gonna grab smaller programs. I would love to get one of the Florida schools first also. The conference will not add any tv market and thats where the money is at

          • ouwooferman says:

JD is correct and dead on.

          • Boom says:

memphis recruiting market along with minimal demographics doesn’t make sense over Houston.

          • JD says:

We would have tvs on in arkansas and tennesse..we already have them on in Houston…im not looking at it recruiting wise..moneywise

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

            And Mississippi.

          • Boom says:

Houston has more sets on than all those combined.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

And I would bet that half of those sets in Houston that are tuned in to a football game are already watching the BIG 12. That’s not the case at all in Memphis.

          • Boom says:

What big 12 game. Most folks are ATM or UT fans.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Exactly, and UT is in the BIG 12. Also, OU also has always played well in Houston and has a large alumni base as well.

          • Boom says:

Mainly the fan base is ATM. Our alumni base doesn’t make a dent in over 8 million folks in the area.

          • JD says:

yeah..im thinking Cold war baby..chip away at the Iron curtain lol

          • Boom says:

Houston is untapped. There is Rice/ATM/UT & with Houston being good over the last 10 years, they have done a good job building on that. I’m not touting Houston, I have no ties. However, they make sense to me over a Memphis.

          • JD says:

Man I feel for you..It would be nice to have a Sooner game in Houston every other year for our fans there. Im just looking at the tv market and going east is the better option imo

          • Boom says:

More sets in Cincy or Louisville? Houston can beat both.

          • JD says:

but we already have sets in Houston..thats the point..we already have that market. Adding Houston doesn’t send more tv revenue to us even if those other markets are smaller

          • Drew says:

No one is disagreeing with you about their current competitiveness. But, that’s the only factor where they really add anything, and there are a ton of drawbacks that really don’t make them worth our while.

          • Recondo says:

Both Cincy and L’ville are large and NEW markets. They also open up recruiting areas we aren’t currently in and makes geographic sense for ISU and WVU.

          • Bob Edwards says:

But we already have most of the sets in Houston between UT, TT, Baylor, and TCU.

          • ouwooferman says:

You are banking on a big fan base which UoH does not have. They are primarily a commuter school, with a huge demographic diversity (meaning not even half are football fans). Many go there for a few years and transfer. The stadium is new but small by most standards. They dont even garnish TV time in Houston each week, Where I can watch all teams play each week in houston that are currently in the B12.

          • Boom says:

I understand and you understand Houston. I agree with the commuter school but they are trying to make changes. The stadium is same as Baylor/OSU/ISU/WV/TT. My point in all of this is if they make it into the Big 12, it’s a major game changer for them just like TCU.
Boosters will come out of the woodwork and more changes & perception will be changed. Again, Houston is NOT the answer but an option. All I’m trying to do is make folks take off their OU glasses and view the conference as 12 or 14 teams. Landscape would be different and there would be additional credibility restored.

          • Recondo says:

SEC owns the big Tennessee markets and Arkansas doesn’t have enough tv sets to matter.

          • JD says:

It dont matter what the SEC owns…there are Memphis fans and they will watch the games on tv..more money …heck you could say UF FSU and Miami own the Florida market but there are fans that watch the other state schools

          • Recondo says:

No to Memphis. I don’t know why people want them in the B12. Florida would be good if we picked up USF or UCF and grabbed another school off the East coast.

          • Bob Edwards says:

A Florida school adds new television markets and new recruiting grounds. However, it does add extra travel costs. But UCF finished 0-12 this year in football. Not going to add much there. USF might work.

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

            Scott Frost. Just wait.

The issue is that Scott needs to build UCF. “No one is from Central Florida” is kinda true. Thus, UCF is not their team.

            p.s., I live in Orlando.

          • JD says:

I was just point out that Memphis would be a better option than Houston from a market standpoint

          • Bill Holder says:

No Houston, Memphis, CSU, Pitt, SMU, UCF, S.Fla, those teams bring absolutely nothing. There are no good possibilities for expansion, so the only viable solution is dissolve the Big 12-2 and every man for himself.

          • JD says:

They bring viewers and that brings money…yeah Id love to get some P5 teams out of their conferences but most have ridiculous GORs clauses to prevent desertion …Pitt would actually be good for WV and the Florida market would be very attractive money wise and recruiting wise

        • brainpimp says:

          No more Texas teams.

        • Sooner_Ace says:

no more tx teams, it’ll be like the SWC redux…no thx

    • Boom says:

Some are in denial about your statement. I agree with you.

      • JD says:

Buddy I believe Houston is on a rise. I just dont think they should be in the b12

        • Boom says:

Neither was TCU but look at them now. Does ISU bring in the big money? No. The conf needs 12 and it’s not going to bring in big boys like FSU or Clemson.

          • Drew says:

Not to speak for JD, but I just don’t see what they add that would benefit OU. We already have the Houston market, so no additional revenue. Texas recruiting is overcrowded as is, so getting recruits there would be even harder than it already is. And Houston adds no prestige; whether that’s fair to them or not is beside the point.

Essentially, if we add Houston and they stay good, they’ll poach recruits from the rest of the conference, lowering our overall quality of play. If they decline back to mediocre, then we added a mediocre team that brings in no revenue. It’s a lose-lose either way.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

            Exactly.

          • Boom says:

Drew, take your OU glasses off. View this as the Big 12 and getting bigger. All the smaller schools in the big 12 have gotton bigger, not smaller. Thus the reason smaller schools want to join.
Big1G adds Maryland & Rutgers so what prestige do they offer.
Every school poaches recruits so that has no bearing.

          • Drew says:

I don’t see how anything that I said implies excessive bias, but the Big12 should only add teams that will benefit the conference, and I do not see Houston doing so. People here are already complaining about losing recruits to Baylor and TCU that we never would have even 10 years ago, if you don’t think that adding Houston would make that problem worse, then you’re the one that needs to take their OU glasses off.

Houston adds nothing to finances, recruiting, or prestige, and at most you could argue those are a wash. So, if Houston isn’t beneficial by those metrics, how could you say adding them would make the conference stronger? I’m legitimately curious, b/c I don’t see it.

          • Bob Edwards says:

The problem is that when you talk about adding schools the key metric to look at is how many television sets do they add. Between Texas, TT, TCU, and Baylor most of the Texas sets are already in the B12. Houston doesn’t really add any revenue to the B12. So all adding Houston does is add one more mouth to feed and no more income. This has very little to do with sports and has everything to do with revenue. If it was just about adding another school, Houston would already be in. But the other schools aren’t going to give up revenue just so we can have a playoff game.

          • Brien Brown says:

Good teams will be good and GREAT teams like OUr team will find a way to be GREAT regardless of the teams or competition we face that is why Stoops is building a National Brand. Recruiting Texas has become harder for a while now and Stoops saw that before we did, hence him recruiting Cali and Florida and well even working on in state kids more!

          • Drew says:

I agree completely. But also, why make it more difficult on yourself than you have to? Houston adds no financial benefits, nor national prestige. All they’ll do is add further dilution of Texas recruiting among P5 schools. If we expand, we should do it right, and not just add a neighbor just b/c they’re close and doing well (for the moment).

          • Pokerman says:

OU recruiting in the Houston area has been abysmal in the past considering the size of the area. I actually think it would improve should Houston join the Big12. The kids would know they will be able to play in front of the home folks occasionally.

          • Drew says:

It might improve in Houston alone, but it’ll probably hurt with the rest of the state. Don’t know enough about Tx recruiting to say definitively on the matter, but I think that’s a fairly common conclusion.

          • Brien Brown says:

Are you kidding, mean we can’t speak just on football aspects here, cause ISU is pretty good in Basketball and bring in their share there and in wrestling also they happen to be pretty solid. Just like KU does nothing for us Football wise, yet they are a top program Basketball wise, you can’t just say that without any proof that a team doesn’t contribute or else the Big 12 wouldn’t keep them and would send them elsewhere. Houston makes sense on a football level and basketball level.

          • Boom says:

Houston golf/track? Overall they would be good. However, when judging a conference it’s all about football. Also, as a side note, even as good as Kansas is at basketball, they make no money. It’s break even situation. Most basketball programs lose money. Big 12 football revenue keeps most afloat.

          • Recondo says:

Pitt and Louisville. Won’t happen but makes a ton of sense.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Well I wish we had him but now we are gonna have to show him what he missed.

  • Zack says:

Man that is brutal I hope something happens soon with Houston that makes these kids rethink their decisions.

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

Like Herman to UT at the end of next season.

    • soonersd says:

like us crushing their souls in their own house next season 🙂

      • Fear The Magic says:

I’ll even take a close win. That game won’t be a gimme at all.

        • soonersd says:

I don’t think it will either but I do like our chances with who we have returning next year and with Baker at the helm. If we can grind through our OOC schedule next year that it will make for a great looking resume for sure.

  • Mr. Jones says:

I’ll give Demetric a pass on this one. He really got my hopes up. lol

  • metzker says:

This OP has turned into realignment thread.Hell id rather talk hallmark channel ///////S

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Quick question. I never saw that Texas fired Norvell or the other OC. Did that officially happen or are they still employed but looking for another permanent OC? Just wondering if they let anyone go yet. I didn’t see if they did.

  • Jeff says:

Too bad Cleveland will take a beating his first college game

  • Brien Brown says:

I think we have proven year in and year out that one kid does not make us or break us on the recruiting front. Again give me the kids that want to be Sooners and really have that #OUDNA not the ones that have to be convinced it’s in them!

  • Fear The Magic says:

So effectively this means that we lost two hopefuls in one fell swoop. No Cleveland no Oliver.

  • HoustonChiver says:

I’m native Houstonian so I’m pretty happy when Houston kids stay home, been great watching their season especially since we open with them here next year. That being said, I’m always extra supportive of a Houston kid going out of state if it’s to OU!

  • metzker says:

Ok off the comp yall have a good day and BOOMERRRRRRRRRR

  • Brien Brown says:

Some where below someone said Riley said something about them having silents and turning away kids this is all I could fine on it!

    Lincoln Hawk•6 hours ago
Eric Bailey from TW said Riley told him we

are having to turn people away on the recruiting

front. Obviously he can’t name any names but
would make for interesting conversation on who

we would turn away that has an offer….

This seems to me to be maybe word of mouth someone said someone said something. But I think TBH and IMO we probably do have at least 3-4 silents and that Stoops and Staff know who they are and also while having them in fold are still swinging for the fences for some kids that maybe we didn’t have a chance with say last year at this time.

  • SamSooner says:

Good luck to Cleveland. I wish him the best. In a day and age where so many people have difficulty affording college, I’m happy the cost of attending college will not be a burden to him or his family.

  • Eddie and Amber says:

Houston has landed some studs this year. If not us, I’m glad it’s Houston with Tyrie.

  • CrimsonNative says:

Bob looks like he’s been benefiting from Ms. Birds meal plans as well.

  • KellyB says:

Man, we could have an incredible LB group for the future with Elysee joining Bond, Bolton, DeBerry, Hulk, Youngquist

  • Stephen says:

Houston is out recruiting a lot of teams right now. Not surprised.

  • EasTex says:

  • KJ1123 says:

“Former starting QB Trevor Knight granted full release by OU” Good for TK.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Yeah I just saw that too. If Baker goes down no es bueno.

      • KJ1123 says:

Yeah I hope it all works out well for him. And even though it was tough watching the TCU game TKs a security blanket.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Well, Cody Thomas supposedly made HUGE improvements over the course of the offseason…hopefully we won’t find out for awhile yet.

          • Sooner Ray says:

When it was leaked that Cody was going to be Baker’s backup in Bedlam, that could have made him rethink some things.

          • Recondo says:

I never heard that. Must have missed it. I was rooting for CT during the QB battle (glad I was wrong). Hope he is ready to step it up.

        • Fear The Magic says:

I hope it works out well for him too but Im thinking selfishly right now. This close to a NC and we just lost our backup QB. I dont get the timing on this.

          • KJ1123 says:

Yeah definitely for the NC (fingers crossed)….Im not sure how that works, if he would stay half a semester then leave for a new program and be eligible to play in the fall. I would think he would want to stay for the NC is we hopefully get that far.

          • Bob Edwards says:

He should still be eligible until the Spring semester starts or he enrolls on another school. Since it starts on the 12th and the championship is on the 11th he should be available for the games.

          • Bill Holder says:

Not sure we’re losing our backup QB. Late in the bedlam game, when it looked like Baker was coming out, CT was the one that snapped his chinstrap.

  • Steve Cooke says:

@SoonerScoop: BREAKING: OU QB Trevor Knight has been granted a full release by OU and Bob Stoops. https://oklahoma.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1835537 http://twitter.com/SoonerScoop/status/675094905677549570/photo/1

  • CKill1 says:

    So Trevor Knight is transferring…

  • Sooner Ray says:

I really thought Trevor would want to stick around for his Championship ring. Is he gone or just have the option if someone wants him?

    • KJ1123 says:

I’m hearing it was news to the team, probably not to Ty and the QBs though.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I don’t blame him but the timing seems odd, expected it more after season. This is a stretch but I wonder if Baker is getting some good news about his extra year? More likely the expectations of the incoming QB’s.

        • KJ1123 says:

I thought that even if he stayed through the spring he could still transfer and be eligible to play in the fall. But I’m not sure. Maybe hes graduating next week.

          • hOUligan says:

Reportedly graduates at the end of the semester. Wish him nothing but the best. He led OU to one of their greatest victories ever and was elected as a Captain by his teammates. He deserves success. Agree, wish this had been kept on the downlow till after the CFP … but…

          • blaster1371 says:

you are correct about the being able to play this fall

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m guessing he announced now so that bowl prep could focus on a new backup, in case he is needed.

    • Recondo says:

I’m guessing he sticks with the team until the off-season.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I’m hoping that’s the case, wish they could have kept it quiet until then. Don’t need distractions right now.

    • Zack says:

I think he sticks around through the end of the season but I think he ends up at Utah or UTSA. Maybe South Carolina needs a qb and that would put him closer to that Clemson girlfriend he had/has?

  • Recondo says:

Possible landing spots? I saw K-State below and that seems like a good place for his skillset. I think New Mexico State is doing some option stuff he might be a good fit for. Wherever he goes/if he goes, I hope he wins a ton of games and accomplishes all of his goals.

  • Defend Colfax says:

I think that article got Trevor some suitors. That’s college football, good luck young man.

    • OohRah Mama says:

Stoops is standing there loose and cool. Swinney’s hands are clenched in his pants like he’s terrified. Nice.

  • Jesse says:

Jack Jones no longer visiting OU

  • bommer85 says:

No tyrie Cleveland, jack jones no longer visiting this weekend TK leaving…in whats been a great year today could use some good news

    • Zack says:

That means velus jones is solid now.

    • KJ1123 says:

Could be a case of turning guys away…or silent commits.

      • JD says:

Thats what Im thinking as well…when your full and a guy we think we have a good shot at commits somewhere else out of the blue then there is a chance we told them we were full and they jump on their other choice before they lose it…not that that is what happened here but it does happen and thats reality

    • EasTex says:

We have three more weeks of this crap. Probably be some other transfers and booms between now and the semi-final.

      • Bill Holder says:

True. I always dread this time of year in sports. …….coaches leaving, players leaving, guys getting suspended, and never knowing what to get the Mrs for Christmas.

    • hOUligan says:

Bit disappointed in Cleveland. But Jones wasn’t likely at all. Anyone hear from John Houston yet??

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Maybe Cleveland and Jones heard TK was leaving?

  • Defend Colfax says:

So is there an actual transfer happening with Knight or are they just saying “BREAKING: He can transfer” ?

    • Jordan Esco says:

      the latter.

      bit of a non-story, IMO.

side note nobody will care about – i get an endless amount of entertainment from how one of the good ol’ boys breaks a story, the other local yokels are all too happy to credit them for doing so. but when someone ‘outside da club’ does the same it’s as if the story magically appeared as if from nowhere and only once said yokel has “confirmed” the story through their own “sources” then, and only then, can they acknowledge the news, while also refusing to credit who actually reported it first. instead falling upon some bulls#$% theory that “confirming” said story through their own “sources” thus relieves them of the responsibility/obligation to do so, the same responsibility/obligation they’re all to happy to remind others of when the shoe is on the other foot.

      /end rant

  • Clint Lenard says:

Jack Jones not visiting OU. Shocker.

  • Bob Edwards says:

If Knight leaves, do we try to take another QB in this class?

  • KJ1123 says:

    Kyle Allen leaving too apparently.

  • CrimsonNative says:

Good luck to Knight. He was a good Sooner.

  • Zack says:

The good news about knight transferring? No more of the “do you think he can play WR?” qurstions. Good for knight though I hope he can find a place where he can start and have a good year.

  • William Ryan says:

Is Cody Thomas now backup qb numero uno?

  • Sooner Ray says:

Switzer to be honored soon on the College Football Award show.

    • CrimsonGhost says:

That was a great video piece in the feature. Hopefully someone will post that on here in the next day or two.

  • RocketCitySooner says:

You guys probably already seen this but the Oklahoman is reporting Stoops has given TK9 a full and complete release to play for any other team including other Big12 teams. Truly a class action by Stoops and best wishes for TK9.

  • KJ1123 says:

AD is still the man. Nice TD run.

  • Ed Cotter says:

TFB- Is it true that TK is seeking his full release from OU? If so, why right now, and not after the bowl games?

    • Zack says:

He may have so that he can keep his options open. If he does transfer he would need to enroll either the same week as the potential title game or the next week. And perhaps Cody Thomas is getting a majority of the second team reps and no one wants to make that public to hurt knight’s chance transferring.

    • Zack says:

    Bob on championship drive.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • Scott says:

    Kyle Allen to OU

  • Zack says:

We need to keep these defensive recruits committed and add a few more of the top targets in Kelly, Bledsoe, Daniels, bosse and southall. I’m sure the WR position will settle itself out. Maybe we won’t have that one dominate guy like Shepard or broyles but maybe we will actually got 6-7 deep with productive WR.

  • KJ1123 says:

Allen to OU is interesting. Still has a rs year I think. Steps in immediately after Baker leaves and maybe have two good years.

  • KJ1123 says:

I think Pollacks had some drinks before they went on the air.

  • KJ1123 says:

I think Pollacks had some drinks before they went on the air.

  • Ryan says:

I feel there is a good chance Baker gains his year back and is with OU in 2017. So OU wouldn’t be a good spot for Kyle Allen.

    • Scott says:

We would start a Dynasty if Shake n Bake gets his year back

      • Ryan says:

No reason we couldn’t with the way recruiting will be going. We will be stacked. A fitting way for Bob to retire from OU.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I think OU is a good spot for everyone that thinks they are good, it’s about competition and not being afraid. If that scares him then yeah, maybe not a good fit. Baker walked on following a Sugar Bowl MVP and look at how that worked out.

      • Ryan says:

I understand that but the guy obviously is afraid of competition since he had to compete with Kyler Murray and already transferred. He won’t unseat Bake.

        • Sooner Ray says:

That’s safe to assume but do we know if he transferred because of competition or is he just unhappy with the environment there? I agree he wouldn’t unseat Baker but he may be thinking Baker leaves in a year.

        • Clint Lenard says:

I have read that there’s some downwards spiraling going on in the program, so I’ll bet it has more to do with coaching than it does competition.

      • Gurry says:

I’ve heard multiple “experts” say the tour of appeal Baker is going for almost never gets approved. Anyone have any other info?

  • Sooner Ray says:

    Boom it is!

  • BoomerDave says:

Jordan? Is there a reason why TFB are being totally mum on the Trevor Knight transfer story? Do you believe it’s not true? It’s the biggest story of the off-season so far. It’s been reported on just about every sports outlet in the country. Do you know something that they don’t? If so, please share with us.

  • BoomerDave says:

I have some unsolicited advise for Trevor Knight. If your reason for seeking to transfer is to be a starting QB in your final season of eligibility, please do not over-estimate your abilities as others before you have. Kendal Thompson has hardly played at Utah. Drew Allen couldn’t win the starting job at Syracuse. Daxx Garman can’t see the field at Maryland. The list goes on and on. Oregon and Florida and perhaps even K-State, are certainly no guarantee of starting. If you’re going to be a back-up, be a back-up with your brothers here at OU. If you want to play, there is nothing wrong with a non-Power 5 school.

    • Boom says:

TK is a Captain. TK earned the respect and OU is his family. If he leaves, he will lose what it took him 4 years to build. Every player wants to start but QB is different & being a good backup is not shabby on a natty type team. He could go in at any minute the way Bake plays.

      • roygbell says:

Nah, he won’t lose any of that. He might lose a few fans, but most OU fans won’t flake out on him. Kids like Trevor are a treasure. He is what student athletes are supposed to be. He has his degree and he is a very high character guy who did his best. I will always remember him as a great Sooner player.

        • Jofield says:

Thank you for articulating that for those of us that are proud of Trevor and wish him the best.

  • Jeff says:

    Kyle Allen baby

  • Jpsooner23 says:

Rumor now that kylar Murray may be looking to transfer too. No I don’t have a link.

  • Stephen says:

I’ll take Kyle Allen. He’s bff with Mark Andrews.

  • Jason Vos says:

Texas A&M we will trade you Trveor Knight and the 1 yr for Kyle Allen and the 2 yrs 🙂

  • Gurry says:

Just saw that saxet just hired an OC. The current Tulsa OC, under Montgomery (the former Baylor OC). SAXET may have just gotten a nice boost on offense to compliment a very young defense.
