Good morning fellow brainiac followers. Welcome to fat pants season! 🙂
Speak for yourself, I only ate 1/2 the turkey yesterday.
Self control is a marvelous thing, good for you
https://twitter.com/nmdut/status/670100607647277056
Thank you! I’m just gonna borrow this, if you don’t mind. 😉
No prob, got it off twitter this morning.
Good morning brainiacs! gotta love that OU makes up almost half of the top 20 players as drafted by that ESPN link. Think that speaks to the team we have, on both sides of the ball.
One more day til bedlam!
Who were the OU players selected? I don’t get Insiders…
2. Mayfield
6. Perine
8. Shepard
9. Sanchez
12. Dom Alexander
13. Striker
17. Tapper
19. Jordan Thomas
ESPN offered me a free insiders deal, or I assure you I wouldn’t have it either
There’s no way Mayfield will be selected before any of those guys. His size alone will preclude this.
Granted if he lights it up next year this could change though.
“If you were drafting the best players from the Big 12, for the sole purpose of winning college football games right now, who would you go with?”
So just for college play, not necessarily NFL
@SoonerMagic76:disqus Ahhhhh ok. Didn’t catch that part. If that’s the case then he’d have to go #1 overall—–no question about that.
Yeah the title is kind of deceiving. I’d take him first too. They took Coleman first, but if I’m building a college team from the Big 12, lots of good receivers. But I think Mayfield is so much better than pretty much every QB that I’d focus on that first
Good think Drew Brees didn’t listen to size comments.
@BRRII:disqus
FWIW, I don’t think he’ll even break 6′ at the combine and NFL teams are still waaaaaay too caught-up in measurables like height.
I know your argument is right, I know the scouts look for “measurabes”, however, at times certain players show up with the “it” factor. A particular coach, a particular mindset, a particular scheme calls for a particular person. I already mentioned Drew Brees, at 6′, great arm, smart, very successful in that offense. I hate to mention the next one, so I’ll just use his last initial Johhny M. Good arm, athletic, escapability. Remind you of anyone ( let’s not get into the personal side, Baker is a great human being off the field). I do think he has the capability of being successful in the right organization. Maybe not the prototypical pro style offense type team, but the “outside the box” offense and coordinator that wants an athletic QB that can make it happen. You are absolutely right, Baker probably won’t go in the 1st 3 rounds, but given the right situation, someone trying to invent something a little different might get him in the middle rounds.
Brees is small-ish
You’re good or you’re not. It has nothing to do with height.
I’m speaking with regards to the NFL draft @samsooner:disqus
Same thing. You either have it or you don’t.
Exibit A: Wes Unseld
Exibit B: Charles Barkley
Exibit C: Fran Tarkenton
Exibit D: Joe Theismann
Exibit E: Drew Brees
Exibit F: Russell Wilson
@samsooner:disqus
But NFL scouts will not see it that way. He will most definitely drop in draft stock simply because he does not have ideal measurables.
You remain unconvinced. I will stop trying.
Baker is listed at 6’2″, but actually measures at 5′ 4″
Plays like a giant.
Exibit G: Doug Flutie 🙂
6′ 2″ and 215 pounds is small? If he continues to play like he has he will be a first round draft pick.
There’s no way he’s that big @clint_lenard:disqus. Media guides almost always fib their players’ size and speed.
Agreed, zero chance he’s that tall.
On a side not I’ve met Drew Brees and I’m 6’1″ and he appeared to be about an inch shorter than me…. probably just under 6′ if I had to guess.
If I had to guess Baker is right around that range … just under 6′
Even if he’s 6 feet tall that’s no longer a “small” qb in the nfl.
Which NFL are you watching sir?
I could list many qb’s, but you clearly feel in the mood to argue over this. Enjoy that.
@clint_lenard:disqus

QB’s are getting bigger—-not smaller. Russell Wilson and Drew Brees are outliers, i.e. the exceptions that prove the rule.
These are lazy stats and EXTREMELY skewed. Let’s just call this confirmation bias, as expected.
Fine then @clint_lenard:disqus: name the great QBs currently in the league that’re 6 foot and shorter.
Without Walker on that list I consider it garbage
He’s in the next 5. But I agree
https://twitter.com/FranchiseOK/status/670240913717723136
I suspect we’ll see a lot of Walsh tomorrow.
ND fans will be quick to point to this in an effort to discredit an OU win.
Won’t matter after they lose.
And try to follow the texsa recipe
RB I would use the OU recipe. Walsh is a dual threat guy, play him defensively like we did the TacoTech guy, make him try to beat you with his arm and take away his legs. Hit him again and again. oSu doesn’t have a D, I would try for the early lead, and just pound the #@*t out of them on the ground after that. Rain, wind, cold, beat them silly on their own stupid field.
I was referring to osu using the texsa recipe in trying to beat us- texsa used a lot of qb runs and wound up on top- I don’t predict that they will beat us but can see them trying some of what texsa did.
It’s interesting that they would play Rudolph. To me, that’s saying he’s their best shot at winning.
Saying he’ll play doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll get the majority of the snaps- if he really does have limited mobility, he’s not going to be able to avoid what we’ll be bringing and they’ll opt for Walsh. IMO.
I agree.
I don’t think it will matter who they trot out there. I can’t wait until this is over and OU is hoisting the Big XII Trophy. I can see it now.
Maybe an OU defender can step on the injured foot a few times………and twist the fingers on his throwing hand…….
I hope you are kidding.
Thanksgiving in the 70’s & 80’s brought the OU – Nebraska rivalry game. As a kid, I remember the 1978 version, an 17-14 OU loss which contained a late game fumble near the Cornhusker goal line by our great Billy Sims. Stay focused Sooners!
THAT’S why I don’t buy his barbeque….Sims cost the 78 team a NC………

Committed to memory eh? That’s how Airplane and The Jerk are with me.
https://media.giphy.com/media/ADr35Z4TvATIc/giphy.gif
It would be fitting if you would re-post this to one of his comments below.
Yeah, Sims was only 153 yards, on 25 carries, 2 tds, 1 fumble that day. One tends to forget the 8 other OU fumbles (OU fumbled 9 times that day giving up 6 of them) that day and pins the loss on BS for the last one. His 44 yard TD run in that game is one I will never ever forget.
Unfair! It is an illusion to focus on one play in one game. He was a huge part of OU’s success that year…. Without him, there’s no telling how many games OU might have lost.
Do you use light bulbs? I mean, we’re all a bit suspicious that you might have one or two loose but you know Edison screwed up on them like a billion times before he finally got it to work. I wouldn’t buy light bulbs either if I was you!!!
You mean he kept buying patents of other people’s work until he got the light bulb to make him money ;).
Without Sims it is doubtful we would have played Nebraska for a chance to play for the national championship.
Boomer! It’s always great to start the day when Texas lost on the day before!
Saw where RB Whaley committed to UGA…as TFB suspected.

The forecast for Stoolwater tomorrow is disconcerting.
Please, Dear Lord, no ice.
Could be a night of a heavy dose of running up the middle.
Only if they have any traction.
Notice the snow/ice on the wolf’s face below- Wolf don’t care…
That’s what my 7 lb. killer malti-poo looks like in the mornings.
Snow doesn’t worry me, ice would make any and every play a wild adventure.
Do I have to pour you a drink ETex? You’re getting a little worrisome and me no likey.
Not worried about the team or the result, as long as there is no ice. Hate that crap and it isn’t meant for normal people to play on.
Weather reports are showing low 30’s (33-34) range during the game with a chance of rain/ice. Unless, reports get worse i doubt any ice will actually remain on the artificial grass. Of course, that is assuming reports are accurate.
That’s what is so disconcerting, we won’t know until we do.
The Wx people are saying the ground temperature is still warm enough to prevent ice accumulation. I hope they are right.
Me too, but if there is freezing rain it will stick to and freeze on things like footballs.
A lot of pistol formation, so Perine/Mixon can run down hill, and hopefully limit the number of cuts they need to make.
Great.
..
Accuweather is slightly different, showing 33-34 at game time with freezing rain.
Cold with rain we can deal with. Ice would suck.
Ice bowl memories.
For me, if ice isn’t in my tea, my cooler or the freezer it is of no use.
Exactly, I delivered a 14.5′ wide turbine to Albany, NY on Wednesday. Ice and snow much of the trip. My wife was one of my pilot car operators, told her “final trip north of I-40 until spring.
Glad you made it and you are a smart man.
I safely made it back to Carlisle, Pa. for the thanksgiving meal and THE game tomorrow night.
Rick, Did you used to work for a Co. out of the Tulsa Port of Catoosa?
Not directly, but I do transport for the companies in Catoosa quite regularly.
OK, worked for a Co out of there once and we had a driver by the same name.
I haul mostly chillers from Catoosa now. Most people recognize me by the red truck/trailer and the killer malti-poo in the passenger seat.
Yeah… But, all things being equal (weather conditions), I’d rather be a Sooner 😉
Even if absolutely nothing is equal…. I’d rather be a Sooner 🙂
KFOR ( Mike Morgan ) is indicating 33 degrees as the high on Saturday…….probable ice in the T-bone toilet Saturday evening…….
Poor pukes “INSERT SARCASM”
BOOMER SOONER!!!
Is Mixon ?
They’re saying he’ll play last I heard.
Ok, thanks!
I wonder what atrocity aggy is planning to wear Saturday? Hopefully they tone it down.
Considering the color choices they have, it’s guaranteed to be ugly.
You never know, for the holidays khaki is in play.
Whatever color they start with will probably become a nice shade of crimson from the bloody noses, cuts and abrasions suffered at the hands of OUr team.
Tradition!
I have another Thanksgiving feast to attend this evening……winning!
Dennis Parker, now the head coach at Idabel High, used to say he could tell when the other team was beaten when he saw them looking across the field wishing they could switch jerseys.
In the 2013 Bedlam I saw a poke looking at the OU bench with that look. The pokes call a time out after OU’s last 1st down before the pass to Saunders for the game winner. Notice the DL for the pokes stare across the field at the OU bench.
https://youtu.be/_wtcHbcZFx0?t=4m26s
I love the dejection in the voices when they say, touchdown Saunders. LOL
Blake Bell had so many clutch moments. I really miss him on our team. A true Sooner Legend.
He beat Notre Dame and OSU. That makes him a superhero in my book.
I love this video. I have it bookmarked and watch it at least a couple times a week. Hearing all the hope fade from the announcers’ breath makes me smile every time.
As much as I hate Briles I’m definitely pulling for Baylor today. They win and the pukes lose a little motivation knowing that their Big12 Championship aspirations are all but over.
Good point.
BTW, best wishes to you and your boys tonight. Be sure and pick up after yourselves when you leave tonight, my boys have the first game Saturday morning. 🙂
Navy-UH coming up in a little bit. Should be a good game, especially if the Coug’s QB Ward can go.
I’ll take the Midshipmen (as a US Navy Vet, I must).
I think Navy wins, the 1 and 2 QBs for UH are hobbled and their leading rusher isn’t dressed for warmups.
I like Navy, but have a soft spot for UH, my big brother was a QB there in the mid 60’s.
November 27, 2015
Good news!
Thank you.
Good morning, sir!
We are one day away from being champions again. Thanksgiving will help make time go by faster. Hanging out with family and having leftovers today is going to be a joy. I’ll wake up tomorrow and watch football for 12 hours. The kids can do whatever they want; All I ask is they don’t burn the house down and don’t change the channel.
Weather channel predicts rain/freezing rain and 32 degrees at kickoff. Reminds me of the ice bowl back in the 80’s. Wonder who benefits most from the weather? (Besides the guy selling hot coffee?)
considering osu cant run the ball, i’d say ou
Take every pair of shoes/cleats available.
This ^
Depending on the exact condition you never know which shoe will give you the best traction.
The team with a power running game.
Keep in mind that back then it was real grass and not artificial. Artificial is slower to freeze and I would think unless the temp drops well below what is forecasted then the ground will not be frozen. Should still be interesting with high chances of rain/freezing rain and plenty of chances for both teams to create turnovers due to weather conditions.
Actually, no, it was turf for the Ice Bowl.
All I remember from that game was that OU won and it was some crazy conditions.
I was there. It was glorious. It was cold, too.
I got cold watching on TV.
Gotcha, I had heard that from one of the talking heads on the radio. Do you know if the turf they use today freezes at lower temps than turf in the 80’s by chance?
The weather is a concern. OSU being the first of the three “gauntlet” teams to have it’s best qb or qb’s ready to go was a major concern, but reports of a broken bone may mitigate. It’s Bedlam and OSU is often trouble when they have a talented team as they do this year.
On the surface I would think that OSU has a couple glaring areas of weakness and OU has plenty of the necessary talent and ability to take advantage of those. Occasionally in rivalry games, those weaknesses somehow miraculously disappear for one game, but I think that this OU team has shown the ability to continue to improve on both sides of the ball and should be awesome enough by this weekend to win, even if that happens. I think TCU was just enough of a “heads up” to keep things in the necessary focus.
I was encouraged to see great shots on several plays of the linebackers doing very well in pass coverage on some tough receivers, both over the middle and elsewhere vs. TCU. Very cool.
Dom and Evans and Striker et al are having great seasons (again),
Also liked the PL lindley Key award selection. He’s been such a great contributor in so many ways to the success this season.
Oh man, we get tortured with sMack Brown’s stupid voice for this game.
UGH!
That’s fine, he’s familiar with OU and should prob be complimentary of us and the Big XII
oooh, that’s too bad. I’ll be forced, again this week, to watch delayed and won’t be able to sync Toby up as I like to do, as a result.
No, this game, the one that is on…Navy-UH.
oh, gotcha
Is the OU game being called by Herb and Fowler?
Yessir.
Just like at Waco with same result. So let it be written…
Including game day.
Ah, I get it. Thanks. I’m actually entertaining the wacky thought of trying to record the entire Toby audio, so that I can play it back in sync with the dvr. Might be too crazy…:-) I can certainly survive with the tv announcers if I have to.
I like Herbie. Chris can get a little annoying.
ive notices Joe Mixon is always slipping even when the wheather isnt bad. Hope he wears the right cleats for this game
The thing that’s impressive with this team is that they’ve taken everyone’s best shot. They haven’t played any team that has had an unexplainable, awful, game. OU has had to create its own fortune: not one game because the other team played badly. OU has dictated the terms.
Tomorrow, I am hoping for our boys to pitch that perfect game. It hasn’t happened this season but tomorrow would be a good time to unveil it.
Who do we want to win between Baylor and TCU?
I’m thinking TCU to help bolster OU’s quality wins.
We win, it “shouldn’t” matter
I’d like to think so. But, as EasTex says, the cabal committee can go rogue.
Whichever team the “committee” likes the best is the team we want to win.
That’s a good choice. I agree with RBear: win and we are in.
How was your Thanksgiving?
It was great, have another one to enjoy tonight. 🙂
Yeah. Me too. Leftover sweet potato casserole, stuffing, cranberry salad, mashed taters, and my wife’s coconut pie: Mmm, mmm, good.
Baylor in a tight one.
Yeah. Our boys successfully navigated those teams.
Normally Id hope TCU would win but as was written below a Baylor win knocks OSU out of the conference championship thus taking away some of their incentive for our game.
Here’s hoping Baylor opens a can of whoop-a**.
Sometimes I think they enjoy the spoiler role more than playing for championships….their history and tradition would indicate such. 🙂
They’re certainly much more experienced playing the spoiler role lol
They sure do seem to dislike championships and trophies.
What time do they play?
I believe 7:30pm today. ESPiN
6:30 CT. ESecPN
Josh made a good point, baylor beats tcu the pokes will lose some mojo because they can’t win the conference.
Yes, sir. And we want the pokes very low.
OP is up.
I don’t care who wins. I just want Art Briles to lose. Contrary to popular belief, nothing is going to make the pukes want to beat OU any less. Bedlam is their CFP, BCS, and Super Bowl all rolled into one.
I guess I know where you stand. LOL!
How was Thanksgiving?
I am so fat.
I’m thinking a Baylor win helps us a great deal since Baylor would have beaten both TCU and OSU. And a close victory for BU would do even more for quality wins for us. But we are talking about a schizophrenic CFP committee who vacillate between different dimensions in alternate universes when throwing up arguments with conflicting logic. So, what do I know? Ugh.
TCU, cannot stand Baylor.
I am with you on this one.
Respect Patterson, not Briles- Baylor winning helps us most though IMO.
