– Chanse Sylvie: I exchanged a few texts with OU’s most recent commit, Chanse Sylvie, yesterday who made it abundantly clear that he’s excited to be a Sooner. Sylvie gave me the indication that, if possible, he’d even like to get back to Norman for yet another visit before the summer is out.
Something I found very interesting was last year when I asked PJ Mbanasor which coaches had the biggest impact on his decision to make a commitment to Oklahoma, he said Jerry Montgomery and Chip Viney. I asked Sylvie the same question and he said, “(Kerry) Cooks and Chip (Viney).”
Viney seems to be a reoccurring theme in landing top DB prospects. – (Super K)
– Bryce Youngquist: As you all know by now, star 2016 LB Bryce Youngquist will announce today at 6 pm (CST). Yesterday I mentioned that I went against what was at the time the prevailing opinion (i.e. Oregon was the strong favorite), and said I feel good about OU’s chances with Youngquist.
As it stands right now, I have no reason to feel any different.
So OU fans may be staring at back-to-back days that could include a #BOOM. In case you’re not a Twitter person, we will post Youngquist’s decision here as soon as he releases it. – (Super K)
– Weekend Visitors: OU is planning to host a number of top recruits this weekend:
* Jeffrey Okudah: Okudah (Grand Prairie, TX) is, in my opinion, the top DB in the land for the 2017 class. I do not say this with any semblance of hyperbole, Okudah is (God willing) a future Top 10 overall NFL Draft pick. He has exceptional size, speed and change of direction. But what really separates Okudah is the seriousness of his disposition.
I could go on and on about Okudah, and perhaps I’ll take a day and type up a detailed post about him. As a player, I’ve observed him at camps/clinics and spoken to him on a few occasions at length. Honestly, I’m just fascinated by him.
He has a very rare maturity. Oklahoma getting him back on campus (he visited for a junior day) is important. Okudah recently mentioned to me that he may graduate early and, as such, he’s not the kind of player OU or any school can afford to wait on in terms of their approach to recruiting him. – (Super K)
* Robert Barnes: Another excellent 2017 prospect the Sooners will host this weekend is Oklahoma legacy Robert Barnes (Southlake, TX). For a safety, Barnes has unique size — standing around 6’3″ — but the first thing that stands out about him is how light he is on his feet and how low he is in his transitions.
A lot of people would look at his size and assume he’s going to end up at linebacker. In my opinion he COULD transition to LB if he wanted, but he really does have the athleticism to excel at the safety position. Barnes brings a knowledge of football to the game and is a polished prospect with tremendous upside. He’s been well trained by his father — former Sooner football player, Reggie Barnes — and is the type of player OU needs to continue to try and bring in. – (Super K)
* Obi Eboh: Also expected to visit this weekend is 2016 DB Obi Eboh (Southlake, TX). I have not had a chance to speak with Eboh this week, however, to determine whether a commitment is at all possible. But I will say that in the past, Eboh has always struck me as someone who is very much interested in some of the academic schools like Duke, Vanderbilt & Stanford. I can say with a fair degree of confidence that if Stanford offered, that’s likely where Eboh would end up.
As a prospect I’m a fan of Eboh’s game, but I’m just not certain I like him as a true cornerback. There are a few things I’d like to see him do in-person before I can sign off on him as a corner. On film I see a guy who is comfortable playing a loose Cover-3 technique, but with Cooks wanting to play an aggressive match-man type Cover-3 corners need to have more than just good speed. They need to have developed, instinctive transitional ability, and that takes a lot of training and fluidity throughout the body.
You have to be able to get depth in your pedal and break or turn. That’s where I’d like to see Eboh up close, to get a better sense of that because on film he appears a little tight and heavy-footed in his transitions. But again, I’d like to see more of him in-person to say for certain.
What I do love about Eboh, though, is that he has great size/speed and is clearly a very intelligent prospect. There is always a place in the secondary for a guy like that. If he can develop into a cover corner, great! If not, he has the size, athleticism and mental capacity to potentially turn into a very good nickel or safety prospect. – (Super K)
* Chris Robison and Gary Overshown: 2017 OU QB commit Chris Robison let me know last night that he will also be in Norman this weekend. I asked him if his teammate, TCU DE commit Gary Overshown, will come with him (Overshown and Robison visited together earlier in the summer) and Robison said he didn’t know. I wasn’t quite sure how to take that so while I cannot say Overshown is coming, I’m adding his name as a possible visitor for now and keep working to confirm one way or another whether he makes the trip or not. – (Super K)
* Secret Visitor: Also this weekend OU is being visited by a big time offensive lineman target that is currently committed elsewhere. In fact, he is actually on campus at the time of this post going up. The prospect, however, preferred his name not be mentioned and we are going to respect that.
I know some of you would prefer not knowing that a visitor was on campus unless we can release the name, but I know there are others who would rather know a prospect was on campus regardless. If the prospect does give us permission to release the name, we will certainly do so. – (Super K)
* Marcel Southall: Brandon & Alex have also been able to confirm that standout 2016 DT Marcel Southall (Duncanville, TX) is also planning to be in Norman this weekend as well. Alex exchanged some texts with the highly sought after DL prospect, who shared that he will be joined on this trip by his mother, father & little sister. So expect the OU staff to roll out the red carpet looking to make a strong impression with the whole family. – (Super K, Alex & Brandon)
– UPDATE (Fri., 11:36 am): Just received word there is actually not one, but two ‘secret visitors’ expected on campus this weekend. The second is also an offensive lineman, one of the top JUCO prospects in the country for his class, committed elsewhere.
An already busy, high-profile weekend just got even busier, high-profiler (that’s a word, right?).
– UPDATE (Fri., 11:55 am): Got confirmation Gary Overshown will not be make the trip to Norman this weekend. Just wanted to pass that along as we noted above we would.

UNO!!!
Congratulations. Beat me by about a minute.
Okudah, Barnes and Eboh. C’mon time to reel these guys in. If OU were to get all 3 of them at some point, would that put a close on DB recruiting?
Okudah and Barnes are with the 2017 class.
ok thanks I guess my reading comprehension is lacking today
No problem….It’s just nice to get some studs on campus for visits. Hopefully this will mean an upturn in OU recruiting here for the next 6 months.
So is Jeffrey a Safety or Corner at the Collegiate level?
Whatever he chooses. He can play either at a very high level
Thanks K! Would love to him balling with us.
Really hope that mystery OL prospect is Parker Boudreaux. Certainly fits the bill as he is committed to Notre Dame.
that would be awesome, and I doubt Coach B. is going to throw in the towel in regards to Parker
Heck no! Linemen never quit!
Ever!
Ever ever!
Except for the schtoopid whistle.
Gotta quit at the whistle or your aggression becomes a detriment.
**I like guys who flirt with the line on this one though
Wish we still had Delance though, I liked his game
……or that Xavier Kelly kid.
That would be good too
Would be curious if it was Parker. He just committed and to come all the way out to Florida for an unofficial visit would be a stretch IMO. But you never know.
May be Tyler Brown, Oklahoma kid and TCU commit.
Hope you’re right. Fingers crossed.
I would guess PB or Diesch
Probably Diesch. He visited TAMU last weekend.
Hey K, with all the new DB talent coming in. Don’t you think Stanvon Taylor has been recruited over. Watched his tape yesterday and the guy was a pretty good receiver, he had over 1,100 rec yards. Wouldn’t it make sense to gibe him a shot there.
I know ive said this b4, but it makes no sense to me that we are wasting a scholarship on a DB that doesn’t play. When he could contribute on offense.
Yes I do feel that way bud. Really think he’s a fantastic athlete but in college football there is a game behind the game and most kids don’t know how to play it.
Just tell me it’s the Big Little visiting today and all will be good. Got to have Coach BedenBOOM to hit it out of the park for THE BIG LITTLE.
I have a feeling this OP will be going viral.
Yes I am infected with OP fever!
Thanks for the excellent info, Super K.
It would seem the flurry of visits right now, especially for Texas kids, is that their summer practices for the 2015 season start in about two weeks. Other than official visits for game days, their travel time is about to come to an end.
Always glad to see a recruit come up with the whole family, getting input from folks he loves and trusts can clarify “lying eyes.”
Absolutely. And if the folks love the school it has to have a big impact on most players decisions.
Headington always makes a good impression, especially to Moms.
I’ll guess Tyler Brown as the secret visitor
Parker Boudreaux out of the question?
Would be nice to get a BooM from Marcel Southall this weekend
Ewwwwwwwww!!!
Had the same thought, but somehow suppressed the reply. LOL
I admire your fortitude. 🙂
Might have just been that I was too busy eating my lunch. But I’ll take fortitude.
ROTFLMAO!
Nice edit.
update added
For the people that keep asking about Boudreaux, sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but he seems pretty solid to ND: http://recruitdiaries.com/2015/07/30/parker-boudreaux-introduction/
Would love it if I was wrong, but he basically gushes about ND in that blog.
Busy weekend it looks like. Hopefully a chance for some serious booms.
Leavitt…
Momentum…..meet OU recruiting 🙂
I have a theory. People type in similar patterns, use words and phrases consistently. Notice the repeating periods and the two short phrases. This is also used by none other than Stephen Dale. I think Stephen Dale is the evil ego of one Jordan Esco.
No kidding
Patrick Hudson?
http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/lets-get-weird-workaholics.gif
Let’s keep the weird in Austin 😉
Agreed.
There is one absolute good concerning Austin, it is only 20 minutes from Texas.
I think I’ve heard that somewhere else before
Probably from me, I am determined that place doesn’t create a false image for a great state.
Never actually been to Austin TX, but the places in TX I have been to are a lot like the rural areas in OK I know and love
Downtown Austin is actually really cool. I’m a native Texan (Dallas) and enjoy going down to visit and float the river. It’s definitely very liberal for such a conservative state though
If only you could have known it in the 70’s to early 80’s.
Last time I was there was in 86, I swore to never return and haven’t. Driven through without stopping a few times and prayed I didn’t have cause to stop.
Born there in 1970. Seaton county memorial. Been back once for a ToughMudder in 2011, right after the Bastrop Co. fires. Traffic was awful where the interstate went past the Texa$$ stadium. Hard to get around in. Hard enough that I didn’t get to take my wife & kids out for decent Texas bbq.
I live in Round Rock, Texas. 15 minutes north of Austin. Austin is a great city. Especially if you are young and want to have fun. It is by far the best city in Texas. Thus the 160 people from out of state moving here every day. The only knock on Austin is, they happen to be the home of the worst sports team in the NCAA. And their fans are obnoxious. But as a Sooner, when you own them as we normally do, it’s a lot of fun to be around them. And gloat. Boomer Sooner!
My step-dad went to UT not too long after that. He did the same thing and got as far away from Austin as possible.
And just like OK, that is where the true Heart of Texas is.
MOAR HIGH PROFILERS!
HIGH PROFILEST!!!
Since it is you, it is now. 🙂
Oh man, this may be a highly entertaining OP today.
Maybe start a list on the TOP of the guys in for the weekend?
Pretty cool that we’re having such a busy unofficial visit schedule before practices even start. Def a great sign!
Haha this is going to be an eventful day. And I know it’s been said a ton, BUT GET VINEY ON THE STAFF FULL TIME!
I love this board.
Nothing to contribute today, other than to say thanks to the TFB team. I can’t tell you how much your insight, honesty and level-headed approach means to OU fans like me.
We appreciate you reading!
would agree,…………
I agree – I only recently found out about this board when I was reading r/CFB, and ever since then, I have been hooked. Best OU information out there, and free!
VERY good ……eliminate the publicity concerning the visit and possibly flip a committed athlete or two from elsewhere…….
Im stunned, I have written this down in my mind “at 11:56 AM CST Stephen Dale wrote, ‘VERY good’ concerning an article about OU football”
A memorable moment…

Slow down Stephen, don’t get too excited. Those are VERY positive words. Has some sunshine finally peaked through?
There’s that bit of light I was referring to yesterday! Good for you Stephen.
Trust me, it’s not light. It’s a blemish, not meant to be there or to be seen.
update added
Is it 6:00 pm yet?
It is some where, just not CDT.
Well he is in CA so is it 6 CDT or 6 PDT? Wait the article says CST, but we are in CDT. Spring forward fall back does that mean I add one or subtract one. OK, if it was CST and I went to CDT I would spring forward, so that is … 7 CDT. Wait is that right. I am so confused.
Reminds me of a great South Park skit.
https://youtu.be/AiPUjGNTi24
6 CST, so 4 here on the west coast.
Other than the problem that it is not CST in OK or AL (where I am). I know, I know, he really means CDT., but it made for a good bit of humor, though probably too subtle.
Its worse for me. Im in NYC so I have to wait till 7pm!
Hang in there – you can do it!
NYC?
https://youtu.be/HbfLfM3t6hc
Ouch Tex! lol
So, we are going to hear it an hour before you? jk
Course I’ll give you guys the good/bad news 1 hour before or after it happens.
ot…….are you a nyr fan?
Big time in fact Brian Leech lived in my building up until a couple of years ago.
reason I ask………wondered what the nyr fans/press thought of the draft/trades results………lost haglin which really disappointed me……..they didn’t seem to make a big splash after it was over, not sure if they improved measurably for next yr…….any thoughts?…..btw, since leech was close by, did you ever meet zubov, messier, et al……thxs
Honestly didnt like the moves the NYR made. Lost Haglin and even worse lost Talbot who IMO was a starting goalie for a lot of teams in the NHL. Got nothing in return really for either.
Ive met Leech and didnt officially meet Messier but passed him in my lobby a few times.
yeah, there were comments during the playoff run last yr that they sold their souls, contract wise, for the cup run…….you’re correct re talbot…….perhaps some unproven youngster(s) will surprise…….kind of you to respond, thxs……….lgr
In London.
I’m a daily reader and basically a non-poster, but would like your opinion on 2018 DE Max Wright from Katy (Taylor HS). Wright started all varsity games as a freshman and is already 6’4” – 230lbs and has offers already from Georgia, TCU, UH, Duke and Mizzou. The 247 site just listed him as the #7 player in 2018. Would love to see OU get this kid
I love that young man’s game.
I asked Katyboomer about getting OU in his head, as he has a son that goes to Katy. Early indications are he has no interest in OU. Hope that can change.
I dont know why this keeps cracking me up!
https://twitter.com/mikeytyler08/status/626463656604102656
I laughed really hard when I saw that myself.
LOL
was it ever disclosed who the secret recruit was from a yr or two ago
Haughton
that was revealed by tfb?
I think super k said so on or around signing day
ok, had a recollection that it was a dl that mont had been after
Prentice McKinley
Yeah I think it was Prentice.
I think rph is asking about the one from last July or August.
some of you are too smart for your own good 😉
LOL!!! I was just typing asking him to delete the post when it said deleted my moderator.

Haha
Super K: “JORDAN!!”
Jordan: “Woah…on it”
lol
And some are the complete opposite 😉
not smart enough for their own bad? wait, what??
haha something like that
…
Dustin I heard you have inside info here. Did Whaley commit yet?
I’m not at liberty to divulge any info that I do not have. 😉
No problem Dustin. I’ll inquire again when you’re in a more divulging mood : )
What did I miss?
What are you doing here?
Get thee to the beach and do not return until some time around 8p.m. EDT.
Will do, sir. I just finished the 18th “inning” of golf. Stopped by the house to check in. I’m out. Trying to avoid the stink eye.
Don’t let nobody fart on your pillow, that will help.
I hate watching a golf game that goes to extra innings.
I’m waiting for Fear the Magic to provide a summary.
my new avatar.
is that the new Lex Luther?
God of War
Sweeet!! I may have to find me a new avatar, but I still laugh when thinking about Sir Michael’s T.V. interview.
That’s Kratos. 😉
What is that thing?
God of war from a ps1/2/3 game
It’s creepy
you don’t have to worry about me – i’m dummer n a bag a rocks
Bryce = OU lock
can i quote you on that?
Well technically I’ll be right unless wisky surprises us.
Whisky the night-before has made me surprised several mornings….
Surprised or regretful and ashamed?
Just surprised – and that was many years back. I truly enjoy some nice single-malt, but I take the whisky, it no longer takes me.
Not much of a whiskey fan but fireball is damn good
I don’t care for “whiskey” (bourbon/sour mash) either. I like “whisky” like the fine Scots make.
Regretfully, suprisingly ashamed!
tweet Bryce and let him know it’s 6pm in London.
Just a hunch?
Going with K on this one
That’s definitely acceptable
Hope the JUCO is Charles Baldwin.
I’m all about stealing Bama commits. If only out of spite.
If yall didn’t see Austin Kendall just tweeted trying to get Bryce on board!!

Great info TFB! Keep up the good work…
A wise man once asked, “Turn down for what”? #BoomSoon
Hey, Jake.
I hope both of you don’t work at State Farm. 🙂
2nd secret visitor would basically have to be leavitt right?
Cant think of another highly rate juco OL we are after thats committed elsewhere
This is of course strictly spectulation, and you could be exactly right. I would spectulate that you err, only for 1 reason, that is where he is committed to. I would think the Stoops boys look out for each other. My guess would be Champion or Autry. Fun to think about!
I hadnt really considered the stoops connection, but do you think bob would tell a kid no if he asked to visit? he might not push hard for him to flip, but i would suspect he wouldnt turn him away for a visit.
According to 247, we havent offered champion(might be inaccurate, since they show only MSU offering)
I didnt know we were recruiting autry, but with him playing in coffeyville, it does seem to make sense.
No it’s not Leavitt
ooh, narrowing it down for us, i like it =)
Appreciate it
Don’t forget, fellow faniacs. Tomorrow is the first day of national Football Hype Month (FHM). Looks like the Brainiacs have taken a good first step to get us in the spirit. Thank you, Brainiacs. And thank you, August, for making our wait one month longer.
Anything to help!!! ;-0
Has anyone else realized that Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow are now on the same team “competing” for the same spot?
Competing is probably used very loosely here i assume? lol
Edited appropriately.
Thanks for the all the info. Love this board.
JS
Don’t you have that thing wrong side up?
Baja Oklahoma.
Yep…except Austin, which is no-man’s land.
I am probably one of the few that thinks that Kish is a very good LB coach and his recruiting was pretty solid last year and could be very good this year. My question is if Kish was to retire at the end of this year, could Viney step up and coach LB’ers or could one of the other coaches move to LB’er and Viney move to DB’s? Would really hate to lose Viney as he seems to have a very good rapport with recruits.
I saw a recent interview where Kish said that hes planning on retiring in 2026 so I don’t think this is going to happen.
Any thoughts on how they could make room for Viney? My understanding is that can only keep him thru this year without an actual coaching position.
They could put him in a quality control position which would allow him on the field, or they could give him some title (like OSU just did this past winter) and give him a nice salary. This may not be enough to keep him as I think he could become a hot commodity.
My hope is they cut a weak link and add him as an actual coach and recruiter, otherwise I think he will be too hot in the market to stay around as a QC guy.
I think the LB play this year will provide us a better indication of Kish’s coaching. On top of the pressure to produce a better on-field product, he’s brought in a number of true LB types, which we really haven’t had since Lofton, and with key guys playing at the ideal(-ish) weight.
I would venture to say that his recruiting abilities have not gone unnoticed with the powers. I think they would not be wanting to let someone go with his success. It probably comes down to dollars and cents just like any other business.
Four. More. Hours.

a. BOOM!!
b. Good luck to the young man.
c. $%#^ recruiting!
d. KISH!!!
I’ll take ‘a’ and ‘b’. If Stephen Dale has the warm-and-fuzzies, then I’m optimistic.
I think the Blue Moon tonight has done something to him today. Very ,Very Weird.
Will the choice “d” be GOOD before or BAD before?
Good point….edited.
I am going with C with a healthy side of Kish. Even though this particular LB from the beginning has leaned to Oregon. Everyone thinking we are his choice really surprises me.
I tried to sum it up in the daily post earlier this morning, take a look.
One thing I will say about Kish. How many college football fan bases know who their LB coach is compared to OU. He’s got that going for him.
Cub fans know the name Bartman as well.
Kish has gotten such a unwarranted rep since he has been here, I’m hopeful this class of LB’s in school now will show what he’s really like. I think the stigma came from that year MS experimented with no LB’s and only put DB’s behind the line. The spreads didn’t pass all that well but OMG the running backs had a field day. I don’t think that was his fault, I think that criticism should fall elsewhere.
Read something the other day that when he got here and evaluated his backers he was quoted as saying “so I’ve got ONE linebacker”. Wort leaving probably didn’t help him either. He wasn’t left with a stocked cupboard from Venables by any measure. I believe Mike’s pulling the linebackers his first year here damaged our ability to recruit backers that we’re just starting to recover from. Certainly not all Kish’s fault by any measure be he’s the popular scapegoat.
Chance of a boom from Southall this weekend?
Ciento setenta y siete!!!
And it’s just getting started!
Gonna be a lot to talk about this weekend… I’d be surprised if this isn’t the most commented on non-football-season weekend open post in the history of TFB.
You have all weekend, but we’re barely halfway past just this past Thursday’s OP.
Y’all are maniacs!
just get Stephen Dale to post something and the #’s will go way up, he seems to get people worked up. JK
Is that due to SD’s insightful analysis, colorful commentary and world renown charm?
Sure
Y’all are the brainiacs, we’re the maniacs. Match made in Oklahoma heaven.
Correction: faniacs.
We may have a long ways to go… but given yesterday’s commitment, tonight’s announcement by Younquist, the number of visitor’s in town this weekend and the pending opening of training camp… I have a feeling we are going to set records.
I have a feeling your feeling is probably right.
Hell, the comments after Younquist announces alone may set a record…
If he picks the good guys, the board will be in euphoria… if he goes elsewhere, the pitchforked mob will be tearing K to shreds for getting their hopes up. Either way, that announcement is likely to stimulate a LOT of talk tonight.
Por favor, traducir al Inglés ?
167
167 what? Did I miss something?
177 actually excuse me, and i think he just means not first.
Lo sentimos sé muy poco español . Pero yo sé Google translate . That is twice today i have mistaken commenters genders. Excuse me i have to get back on the short bus now. Sorry Sooner 4Ever. 😉
They could be a she. I don’t pay much attention. Maybe I should have said ‘they’?
Well I will ask the hard ?’s Stand Bye!!!
Ok clarification has been made it’s a guy. Going by avatars is maybe not the best way to make an assumption.
177.
If you go back and look at all the posts in which someone post “1st”, “First!” or “Uno!!!”, etc… I almost always post whatever number my comment is and try to use the exact same format as the “first” poster of the day. It’s just my little game with the “first” posters.
Today was in Spanish so I, naturally, responded in kind.
lol I hope I wasn’t the only one that knew what you were talking about….although the boards been on fire so the first comments been burried.
El pescador esta en al bano.
Sooner 4Ever, what say you we need clarification are you a Male or Female?
Male.
My profile pic is of my middle daughter (on the left). I have 5 kids (4 girls and a boy).
other young lady in that pic is our oldest daughter’s best friend. She is basically our 5th daughter. I coached her in AAU basketball in 6th-9th grade and she was with us all the time and is a part of the family… despite the fact that she chose to play volleyball at Texas. She has a national championship ring, so I can’t really fault her choice too much… and it helps that despite playing athletics at Texas, the last time we talked about it she said she still cheers for OU against Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
Ok, Sorry for the mix up did not mean to offend if I did. Oh and tell the 5th daughter.
No offense taken at all. Sooner 4Ever could be for either sex and my profile pic is of 2 young ladies.
And our young longhorn is in Korea playing volleyball… getting paid to play and using the opportunity to get ready for USA volleyball ’16. Pretty good chance she’ll be rep the red, white and blue in the ’16 Olympics.
Well thanks, but that is twice today I have been mistaken. Damn I was on a roll this week to.
Sorry to disappoint and I’m never going the Bruce Jenner rout so you’re not going to get any “righter” on this one some day down the road. LOL

There is nothing like this board. Found it a year ago.
In the event I encounter a Sooner fan whom I have not previously met, I now always ask, “Have you discovered The Football Brainiacs site yet?”
I passed TFB to a couple of OU fans I met while vacationing this week.
If only we had shirts. #HintToTheBrainiacs
Yes, The Saga of Stephen Dale T-Shirts Please!!!!!!!!!
Dante’s Inferno!! more like it.
Now can we get a big boom to start off the weekend right?
Let’s hope, man.
You weren’t the one who told Stephen Dale about it were you?
OUCHHHH!!!!
How should I know? 🙂
I think as a Whorn fan, he felt like being ornery one night, and stumbled upon TFB.
The Mods need to have his IP redirected to the OSU fan board whenever he clicks the TFB link.
Hahaha
When Bryce commits today, one can only wonder what negative things he-who-must-not-be-named will say.
On July 31, 2015 at 11:56 AM CST the aforementioned Stephen Dale said and I quote “VERY Good” when discussing OU football.
I damn near fainted.
that was a common theme Im betting
I was a reader for a long time before joining, don’t know why I waited so long now.
Almost on my second year here, it’s the best for how much it costs.
Didn’t know Tyrie Cleveland moved to OL just to visit this weekend.
Defense wins championships right?
Top 5 Offenses in OU history by scoring avg.
1. 2008 51
2. 1956 47
3. 1971 45
4. 1974 43
5. 2003 43
Those were pretty good years for the Sooners. So let’s hope Riley can score some points.
51 ppg seems adequate
I’ll raise your 51 and go 55, yeah double nickel sounds good.
lets just aim for 8 TDs a game, 2 for Perine, 2 for Mixon, 2 for Knight(to Shep and Dede), one for ST one for Def
SOLD!!
I like your way of thinking
This list while awesome makes me sad because it should be complete with a sweep of titles.
Or is the best defense a good offense – Sun Tzu/Von Clausewitz. In that case, fire up the hot rod, Mr. Riley.
Question-
If you’re at the gym working out and you see Rufus Alexander and Nic Harris working out together, do you say something?
And you are their age
You say “Boomer!”
I say “SOONER!”
I’d open by complimenting the state of Louisiana. After that, you’re on your own.
Were/are they wearing earbuds? If so, say nothing. I wear earbuds when I lift mostly because I like to use music to keep me inspired when working out… but I also wear them to keep Blabbering Bobby Benchpress from striking up a conversation between sets. I workout hard and try to stay focused on what I’m about so I can achieve the best results for my time spent grinding.
I’ll be more than happy to spot you in the bench if you ask… but I’m not interested in hearing about your day while I’m working out. Most other lifters wearing earbuds feel the same way.
**Edit – although a “Boomer” in passing would almost certainly not bother a pair of former Sooner greats, either.
Something like, “Sup fellas…..Meek or Drake?”
http://gifrific.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/NPH-dissapoint.gif
Alright, I’ve been outside working since before the sun was up. Time to read through what you people that are cheating your employers have said today, lol! Hoping for a BOOM this evening.
Have not got anything done the last two days. Good thang Boss is on vacation next week. SHHHHHH!!
I own my own business now, (left the office, bought a semi 24 years ago, never looked back). I never answer to anyone EXCEPT….. “Honey, are you still in Michigan”, No dear, I’ve moved to Gary, Indiana today. “So you’ve traveled 50 miles in the last 2 days?” Yes dear, just looking for the best possible load. “So you found one?” Yes dear, loading another oversized on Monday to Dallas. “Okay dear, see you next week.” So you can see by that conversation I have been working hard these two days and my “ahem” employer is very happy with me.
It’s 4:00 Central – Bryce, just announce OU now and say the time matches my new school.
Went over to the ducks 247 board and they have quite a few posters who think he’s going to Norman. I thought it was hilarious that one of the posters asked why in the world he would choose OU. In 2000 we had the same amount a national titles as they had conference titles. Just funny that Oregon thinks they’re a top 5 program.
Oh and they seem to think they have a real shot at Caleb kelly
This is why 😉

Or this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWoS1piwmLU
I love that speech!
Oregon doesn’t have a football tradition, they were the laughing stock FOREVER. Before Knight came in the mid to late 90’s they were terrible. Even their Rose Bowl team in 93 ( I think ) sucked.
https://twitter.com/LincolnRiley/status/627225583248875520
Fresh off those trips, despite being impressed with both the Badgers and Sooners, Youngquist held firm when asked who was on top for his services.
“I’d probably say Oregon,” he told The Oregonian. “With Oregon, the people who make up the program… it’s such a team-first attitude and the coaches know the players and what the players have gone through. That makes a big difference. When I went to Oregon everyone was on the same page and nice. There was no trouble whatsoever. It’s just a great place to be around good people who care for you and want to help you succeed.”
So, Rod are you saying Oregon? It sounds like a lot of people are winking towards Oklahoma. I honestly have no idea what to think. Either way we will find out soon enough.
I want to speculate here for a second, after reading their boards and other comments. They have 2 LB committed and while they definitely want Bryce, they seem to have 2 others on their board equal or higher and maybe Bryce tried to tell Oregon he was going to commit and the coaches might have asked him to wait. That may have killed his desire to go there whereas OU would take him any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.
Do you think that might have been why he changed his commitment time? maybe some last minute news?
Well I think he probably had today as the day he wanted to commit for awhile. The word was before his visit that a decision would come soon after.
I thought he changed the time(not date) of his commitment last night. Thats what i was referring to.
Good analysis. I hope you’re right.
My prediction is that Bryce is going to commit to……….a school whose name starts with an “O”. BOOM!!
http://media.tumblr.com/81dc4d575900e2417918d27d938cf087/tumblr_inline_mm0qiwwPHe1qz4rgp.gif
Great… now he’ll announce to USC or UCLA… just to spite you. LOL
Just posting what the Ducks thinks, Myself – I going with the Brainiacs. They are not called that without reasons, although I’m nervous to say the least
We really need a TFB app, i’ll be on the road during B.Y.s commitment.
Follow the twitter, I’m sure it will be there if something goes down.
Especially if you start it to get mobile notifications, it’s like you have an app 😉
Definitely, I have twitter, just would like to be able to post quickly to the TFB board or read the board when stuff happens.
I agree. I wish Disqus was a little more interactive and allowed you to reply and post and what not from an app. I like where your head is at
Tell me what you want to say and I will pass it along. LOL.
Sylvie is putting in work for OU
https://twitter.com/ChanseSylvie/status/627226750066372609
so whats going on with the commitment of BY?
Waiting. 4pm PST.
Oh ok, cool! Thanks.
just waiting for him to announce. s/b in about an hour or so.
You may have mentioned below or yesterday but where do you think he’s leaning?
OU
Sweet I’ll wait an hour to ask why you and K are confident in OU here.
I have a hunch, just by observing the board, that Jordan and K have some pretty solid info.
That’s the way I see it too. I wonder if so, if they will explain following his decision.
I hope so. If they’re right….twitter and this board is going to be on fire!
One of the secret visitors is Parker Boudreaux
https://twitter.com/ChanseSylvie/status/627234021714456576
I’m starting to think this kid really like’s us. 🙂
Chanse is a recruiting animal. I like this kid!
I’m glad we took a Chanse on him!
That’s never gonna go away is it?
Do we really want it to? Chanses are it won’t.
Awesome. He hasn’t wasted a second.
Just here for the Bryce Youngquiest pre-commitment show.
You were supposed to bring beer. 🙂
Who said I didn’t? (-:
Have y’all tried Prairie Bombs? They’re the bomb.com
Bomb! is an imperial stout aged on espresso beans, chocolate, vanilla beans, and ancho chile peppers. All the flavors meld to create a truly unique beer. The peppers add just the right amount of heat to compliment the intense coffee and chocolate flavors.

Dang. Sounds good. Love a good expresso stout.
Yes! Best things ever!
Oops…. Have mine
I’m shocked! :-0 haha!

Just got this tweet from Jason Kersey, I’m not a gambler. Can anyone explain this set of odds to me? I don’t understand.
https://twitter.com/jasonkersey/status/627195919759310849
If that’s their passing yards through the first 2 games…CODY WINS!!
Mayfield is the favorite
TK9 is #2 and CT14 is #3 in terms of odds of winning the job
Thanks guys, I figured as much, I just didn’t understand the number.
For $1, you get $1.50 if it is TK; you get $9.02 (never have such an odd # in the real world) if it is CT. But if you want to bet BM, YOU lay $ 1.30 for $1.
I’ve seen it expressed better, or maybe Jason Kersey has an odd book.
Thank you, I couldn’t understand those numbers until you explained it.
It appears the book may be european maybe, by the url.
update added – non-commitment related
G-Day minus 36
Better get this out before 6pm…
One Sooner Legend and two great number 36’s
Steve Owens AA and Heisman winner – Russell Dennison – Travian Smith
Russell Dennison
Travian Smith
https://youtu.be/fvZWyqeLd7o
Travian was a bad ass. A man among boys.He and Kelly Gregg were one of the few bright spots back then.
Sooner Legend Steve Owens
Not sure if this will work on here since it is not Youtube, but here is a link for Steve Owens highlights

Good luck young man! And you will look much sharper in Crimson & Cream than any peculiar combination of yellow, green, orange, or whatever that Phil Knight forces out.
That’s just damn cruel to post an update at 5:02 not about BY.
http://i.imgur.com/2MTQrQf.gif
all is forgiven.
BY is tweeting out special thanks to his coaches now, sounds like a classy kid.
I’m just going to throw it out there.. I like this Chanse Sylvie kid haha
Glad I found this site. as previously was relying on Daily Oklahoman for OU football news, and, well, that pretty much says it all.
Oh you poor soul. WELCOME!!
Man you skipped like 7 generations of technology there.
Anybody know if Viney had a roll in BY’s recruitment?
Biscuits
With or without gravy?
With for sure
sausage gravy?
Yessir
I think BY got the “entire staff” treatment.
BS looking a lot better after the hip replacement. I think it had a much bigger impact on his coaching the last 2 years than he would ever admit.
Bob’s not the tallest guy in the world but maybe 5’11 or 6 flat. Those are some tall DBs
That Barnes kid is listed as 6’2″ 185. He’s got a pretty impressive offer list already, not bad for a 4 star soph.
I completely agree.
He said he should have had the surgery 3 years ago. Imagine the pain background he was contending with.
FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!
Calm before the storm.
It’s time

Well HELL YES!!! payback for that game at Oregon a few years ago!?
I think they still owe us!!!!
Please dont ask the officials…
The officials were all wearing yellow and green that day.
Like we always say, in Kish we trust…. Uhhh
Seriously, well done Kish.
BOOM! What a great week for OU football!
CNN BULLETIN: Stephen Dale on ledge of building….updates to follow.
Hahahaha you win.
PUSHPUSH
Just think what might happen should we get another commitment today.
I hope all the Kish haters wil shut the hell up now!!!!
Pretty please
Hire Kim Tish!…..but we all know Monty somehow did it.

So did the BY announce on twitter? where is everyone seeing the official news?

gracias!
yes on twitter, I was going to post it, I thought maybe the mods would want to put this one up
Go back to the home page. Whole new page on this.
yes

Thats badass! Nice way to do it…
That is nice. Eugene has trees and ducks but OU has the tradition. OUDNA!!
Looking at it, though, someone needs to give young Bryce a call and have him correct his tweet. 4, not 2, Butkus Awards by 3 individuals…Bosworth twice followed by Calmus and Lehman.
It’s an ESPN graphic showing stats from 2000 to present. Not Bryce’s fault the Boz was left off
True dat. More about being fully aware of all the greats that have played LB at OU and you have to include Brian Bosworth in any discussion of OU linebacking ‘greats’.
I believe it’s part of an ESPN series, where they come up with a Lineman U and Running back U, etc. All based on figures from 2000 forward
3 time AA, Rod Shoate, only two Sooners to ever be 3 time AA.
That’s just it. So many greats that have worn the crimson and cream…where do you start and how can you leave these guys off?
Both were Sooner Legends. They had the spark to ignite those around them.
AND he could NOT play as a freshman! He was better as a freshman than those who played, but in his day, freshman could not play varsity.
Happily wrong. BOOM.
The thought of Kelly joining Youngquist, DeBerry, and The Hulk possibly in a 3-4 alignment….wow! And that’s about all I got to say about that!
Yea, this D could be Sick.
WILL be sick! Think positive- it’s all starting to come together and we still have plenty of time to steal even more away from lesser teams!
Come on Dean!
YES YES YES YES YES!
what?
me failing trying to embed a gif lol
all you should have to do is copy/paste the actual URL
If you could supply another boom, so i can try again….that’d be great….
=)
I like it.
Ask, and we shall receive. Let me give this another go.
http://gifrific.com/daniel-bryan-yes-chant/
Link didnt work. My last try…
Try One More Time.
I dont know which code this site supports, so i just did it manually lol
I just try to avoid it all together or screen shot.
was trying to do the daniel bryan yes gif…and failed badly lol
Haha just save the file locally. Embedding is a weird world.
after saving locally, i assume id just use the upload image button?
Are you f’n seriOUs!!! BOOMer freakin’ SOONer!!! Welcome to the OU family Bryce!!! Now get on the horn to Caleb Kelly and bring yourselves on out here!!!
Terry and Youngquist! Some people on here need to finally give it up to Kish.
He’s getting it done in recruiting. Hopefully bringing in athletes like this, we will see even better results on the field in the next couple of years which will generate more interest and more top recruits which…well, yeah.
Simmons was the only one he mentioned in his statement after committing.
Kish is the one that needs to coach them up, but Simmons and Viney seem to be the main guys mentioned in their recruiting. Not saying he hasn’t had a hand in it, but he hasn’t been getting the mention, the other two have. Just sayin’.
update added
That was awesome…but now please:
Caleb Kelly = FULL COURT PRESS!!
I think Kelly is already an OU lean which in the case of the Duck and Youngquist can change in a blink. I feel real good about Kelly though, I think this could help us land a 4th guy though that maybe we wouldn’t have mean maybe it helps us land another stud LB. Mean I know we still need Kelly but, this doesn’t hurt our chances with him and think we get Kelly on board with Terry and BY I think a 4th would join. Maybe Draper looked at the guys we where after and decided he couldn’t compete or didn’t want to try to compete against them lol.
Caleb Kelly, Devwah Whaley, Jeffery Okudah, Robert Barnes, Obi Eboh…who’s next? Need to see some more Denzels…Keep this train rolling…
Tramonda Moore & The Big Little, that is the train I hope we catch.
Agreed…let’s hope this momentum continues…
Bryce Youngquist committed to OU #Boom!!!
I go to the um, grocery store on a Friday night & miss the fun ?
Kind of like the Oklahoma weather. Nice and sonny, then just blink and there is a Boom! 🙂
Great pic of Okudah and Barnes. Next!! Those are some tall kids. They make Bob look like Lil Nicky. LoL
I’ve never seen Twitter blow up like this before….
This has been a real good past two days for OU could be a great 3 to 4 I think they could get 1 or 2 more this weekend.
Does anyone wanna play guess the OL that’s a secret visitor that’s on campus that’s committed to another school? I have 3 guesses Austin Myers commit to TCU, J.P. Urquidez commit to Baylor, or Parker Boudreaux commit to ND are my guesses. as far the Juco OT goes my guess is Tate Leavitt commit to Kentucky.
I’m guessing Tyler Brown, Oklahoma kid, TCU commit.
Hope so, do want!
Me too, like it when we get the Oklahoma kids
Did OU just add WR Jarvis Baxter?
I just saw that as well! Not confirmed but if you look at his Twitter is say he’s a sooner!!!
I just saw that too. Interesting….know anything about him?
Nope but I am researching right now.
Right on, silent boom I guess?
JUCO WR released from UCF or his LOI, apparently knows Dede Westbrook pretty well and got in contact with Riley. I think he going to walk-on but the guy can play.
He’s a bit of a burner, not a very big guy at 6’0 but plays the middle of the field really well. He must of knees of steel because some of his cuts look kind of painful. Maybe not the most talented player but he’s got some hustle out there.
film: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2721290/highlights/164041375/v2
Awesome man, appreciate it.
Reminds me of Broyles a little bit. Not the fastest guy but excels at finding holes in coverage and creating separation.
You know what, there’s an update so just refer to that.
We’re on it
via os…..round 2?
“Now all this being said, the race isn’t entirely run for Youngquist, who has said he plans to take all five of his official visits. “I really want to take all of my official visits, even after my decision. (Wisconsin) will get one. Oklahoma and Oregon will get one as well and I’ll also visit Arizona State and Washington State”
Holy cow! Stephen Dale was actually POSITIVE today and all this happened – I sure hope he can be positive for six more months and we could have a great class and an NC.
That’s one of the signs of the apocalypse.
Marcel Southall visiting tomorrow and Chanse Sylvie already recruiting him on Twitter…
He re-tweeted my tweet, very cool!!! Never had so many sub tweets in all my life HA!!!
What’s impressive is that we have former players such as AD and Jamal Brown on twitter supporting the program and the recruiting efforts.
That’s fantastic!
Would love to see Tommie Harris engaged with the program.
I believe I saw Tommie tweet some pro-OU messages recently…
The good news just keeps on coming.
Thanks!
I haven’t seen McCoy or Bradford yet tonight on Twitter. Saw Trent Williams but someone needs to bring up those 3 going top 5 in 2009.
WE WANT BLAKE GRIFFIN
update added
Baxter is electric…like Jalen Saunders electric. What a steal!! He can return punts…
I love the last 4 words
What allows him to get out of his commitment at UCF and walk on at OU and can Lampson do this as well?
It is strange that he supposedly signed with USF on NSD and is walking on at OU.
Apparently USF released him.
If I read posts above correctly, i think USF wouldn’t allow him to take 9 summer credit hours but OU does. So, if he can’t meet their requirements then they have to release him. They can try to stall like Texas is doing on Lampkin but they do not have reason to since they don’t face OU. TFB said all Texas is doing is delaying the inevitable with Lampkin.
K is teasing us on Twitter again! Next week.
HE CAN’T JUST SAY THAT AND EXPECT ANYONE TO SLEEP TONIGHT.
TFB just teased the possibility of some more good news on Twitter and we have to wait till next week!!
9:40 updates??? Man, I was trying to gift off this google-machine. Save some Booms for August (say the 1st, okay that’s only two hours)
preach. I’m multiple drinks into the evening. you think I wanna be doing this s#$%? lol
Yes?
But, Jordan this is like Christmas in July the past 24 hours have been exciting to say the least!
that’s true. it’s the sacrifice for the greater good.
You can drink and write, my comp class proved this.
As did your cap lock button. :->
OOPS _( ‘~’ )_/
I deny nothing
Just sayin’. :-}
oh, believe me. that’s happening.
You are just training your liver for 9/11 & 9/12….
I’m gonna give Jordan credit for frank Alexander joining in. But with pj mills joining in I think it’s starting to shut down.
Yo they hitting up Chris Daniels also on Twitter big time!!!
This is like “En Fuego Friday!”….seriously
…
https://twitter.com/OU_CoachB/status/627310291341062144
TYRIE CLEVELAND, TYRIE CLEVELAND, TYRIE CLEVELAND, TYRIE, CLEVELAND, CALEB KELLY, DEVWAH WHALEY.
Just decoded that for you.
There is no way you could know this, but I do have hypersensitive hearing.
/true
Interesting on JUCO WR.
Walk on
More depth and mature competition is always a good thing.
These two new commits have me feeling euphoric despite the heatwave. Thanks to TFB & TGIF. BOOMER!
Night y’all.
I leave you with the sweet stylings of SRV.
https://youtu.be/QJQK2Du7fUY
I could watch, and listen to that all day long.
Good times
The real questions is how did texsa manage 14 points???
Yeah…we played some really crappy D that day…lol
Newflash – I just drove past the Cotton Bowl this morning and Quentin Griffen scored 4 more touchdowns on Texass this morning, bringing his career TD total against the whorns to approximately 1,288 (this is a rough estimate, actual number may be higher).
If Q were to even drive through Dallas, the Cotton Bowl scoreboard would spontaneously light up.
I was there that day in an endzone seat watching Q dash into the EZ right in front of my face. What a day!
Looks like we have 2 of the top 3 receivers as far as yards go from the Juco ranks currently on the roster. Westbrook must be a beast, he only played 8 games compared to 12 by the other 2
http://i.imgur.com/qd0KIMi.png
Those yards per catch….siiiiiiick
I’m liking Baxter’s TD prowess..
Not bad for a walk on…kid can play a little
Update 08:42 am Turkey time Silent BOOM
http://www.scout.com/college/oklahoma/story/1569061-jarvis-baxter-joining-sooners?s=73
Sooners pick up a blazer in the Ryan Broyles mode going to walk on this is a big deal as he is an automatic qualifier and has 3 to play 2.. I kept telling people a few months back, all the haters OU is going to coming back strong and 14 was an anomaly, not to get past 15 but we are setting up pretty good for 16 for sure…..Double post because I need the attention!
“I’m going to have a chance to earn it during the season. Pretty sure I’ll end up with that scholarship because nobody is going to work harder than me.”
Love that attitude BTW
Where you at JrsySooner?
Incirlik Turkey….getting ready to open a OU can of whup ass..
Ok for those who don’t know we’re getting ready to attack isis just the first time in history Turkey has allowed access…BTW remember fear this team..I’m telling you if QB is established secondary improves dangerous when underestimated
I am ex-Navy, got to spend a week in Turkey in early 80’s in a joint training exercise as an Air Intercept Controller. Good luck and God-speed young man. Way to represent
Airforce? I’m Navy I was there for 45 days from Jan-Mar. Those mountains are beautiful and those bonfires are kick ass.
I’m sure I met you…not air force civilian but I met all the Navy folks since they came in last year…do you have one of those isis killer patches those are awesome
LOL……so DeDe talked him into walking on at OU. Go DeDe!
https://twitter.com/TheFbBrainiacs/status/627311534578929666
Good morning!
Indeed! Right back atcha!
I wonder what this is. I have a feeling this has to do with eboh, Barnes and okudah
I view it as something else to look forward to in this Sooner football void.
Only 35 more days…5 more Saturdays.
Hope it has something to do with either Kelly, or the two “secret visitors”.
I never figured out who the juco OL was but it did slip who the other secret kid was.
Who was the visitor that slipped?
His name was guessed below and if you look on another site you will see his name also.
Who was it?
OT, but dang!
Rowdy Roddy Piper dead at 61.
https://youtu.be/gDKdHuyQpHY
News made me a little sad. We used to have a MNF football potluck for our fantasy league and would warm up watching WWE/WWF for grins. Rowdy Roddy was always one of my fav characters. The pipes are playing ‘Amazing Grace’ today for Roddy. R.I.P.
Baxter looks pretty impressive imo. Nice pickup!
I really like this Baxter kid. Good speed, elusive, and works the middle of the field well. I think Ou may have got a steal here!
Damn, how many times did J. Baxter score in that first game on the video? 3-4? Jeez. A quote from Major League’s manager Lou Brown… “Let’s get that man a uniform!”
Chanse is in it to win it. Love this young man.
https://twitter.com/ChanseSylvie/status/627374502096281601
Hell yes its okay!!!
Glad to hear it is, I’ve been there my self. LOL!
Gives me a fine respect for the young man already studying film.
…
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e236/Chris_Knight77/7wrncdu-1_zpsbdc57dac.gif
Immersing himself in it. So very cool.
This kid has gone from uber quiet to OUtspoken ‘in a good way’. And he was what…maybe 2 yo when this game was played? Liking Chanse a lot!
Yes, because I was also. The TAMU game and Marshall’s INT return for TD.
I have it on DVD and still watch it, Chanse. I was at that game, and it was my favorite football game experience ever.I had so much fun at a number of games that year like 63-14 vs Texas and beating #1 Nebraska at home. But that game for all the marbles against such a high caliber opponentopponent like FSU, watching that incredible defense, I don’t know how you top that.
Good morning fellow Brainiacs, was saddened by the piper news grew up watching that guy. The sun still came up today and as always it’s a great day to be a SOONER!!!
And a very good morning to you.
Was never a big wrestling fan, but he was one of those guys who had a personality that transcended the sport.
Yes he was very very vocal. Loved his persona.
I couldn’t give 2 sh**s about fake pro wrestling, but I enjoyed him in They Live. One of my favorite movie lines of all time: “I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubble gum!”
I am getting very exited about all these commits as of late. Now let’s see what the new guys on campus can do for us. Very exiting times ahead so sit down and hold on could be a wild ride. BOOMER!!!
S00NER!!!
Well…however, a sad thought,… OU gets guys who can’t meet academic requirements for some schools….not Stanford, etc., but like S. FLA..especially texASS….they should get guys who can’t get into OU. ? ? ? In a perfect world..
-One, we havent gotten Texass guy, YET.
-Two, Texass’ requirements for foreign language are different than most universities IN THE ENTIRE US.
-Three, not sure anyone has said J. Baxter did not qualify. Not sure what is up there, but have heard nothing of him not qualifying.
-Four, many have reasoned that Lumpkin may have actually had change of heart back to OU, and this was the easiest way he could accomplish that…
-Five, Why trash the Sooners for some good news???
Could be low blood sugar and he needs a snack.

Lil’ Diabeetus
LOL!
Even though I am a gastronome, I refuse to eat those.
Gastronome, lol, all the more reason not to!
Absolutely!
Make mine Hostess Cupcakes.
That is awesome.
That doesnt make sense. Need to get guys who cant get into OU? That means their academics arent good enough to get in almost anywhere. OU has plenty of guys that could get into any school across the US. Including schools in Cali (UC) where it’s difficult to get in and maintain your scholarship. One or two guys dont define what type of student athletes OU goes for.
Neighbor kid transferred from U Cal system school to OU three years ago. Found that about half his credits didn’t meet OU’s standards. Not crapping on anyone, but there are complexities involved in these things.
No thats a good point and another example of how its not like OU has a low academic standard. There will always be credits left out no matter what state you transfer to but to say OU is going for guys that cant make it in at another college is just a poor statment.
It’s also good to remember that the mission of a state school is different than that of others institutions. Part of that mission is making access as broad as possible.
OU has become more restrictive since I went there in the 90s.
According to C&C, S. Florida limits the number of hours that can be credited for summer school to no more than nine. OU does not. With credit for all the course taken, Baxter meets academic requirements.
This website is called the Football brainiacs, not the academic brainiacs. This is good news for OUr team and will make them better. If OU was in the SEC how would you feel about our academics? Would this be OK then? You do realize the kid did all his work to be accepted by 85% of colleges but took 9 credit hours over the summer. 80% of major colleges accept 9 credit hours over the summer, some of which offered him, but he chose to WALK on and earn a scholarship at OU. He did his work yet on here we are asking why OU’s academic standards are so low that he can be excepted? I’m happy we got him and honored that a kid with full ride offers at other reputable programs would rather walk on and be a SOONER than take those offers.
he will be a walk-on. what’s the downside again?
I hear crickets…
Hard to complain about getting a “freebie” who may turn out to be a quality player for OU. Correct me if im wrong, but at least I’ve never read about this guy getting into trouble. We wasted a scholarship on a criminal (DGB) who used us and never played a down for OU. I prefer having solid citizen who is willing to pay his own way and work to get on the field.
I’ve expressed my concerns repeatedly over Bob Stoops’ decision-making in recent years, particularly with retaining his brother as DC but firing the offensive staff. But one thing you can’t question is the academic progress and graduation rates he’s fostered. We are at or close to the top of the Big 12 every year in team APR. We picked up Jalen Saunders from Fresno State and he turned out to be a dynamite player. I’m not saying Baxter will be Saunders, but give him a chance to show what he can do.
Sitting here thinking of the cool fall air and wishing it were game day.
I think we will land 4 linebackers this year. Terry and youngquist already committed and I believe Kelly is only a matter of time. So that 4th one can be anyone at this point. There’s Jefferson from the boot, camarouche, Marvin terry and dontavious Jackson. Who do you guys think the 4th kid will be?
Bundage
Did you see his video on the NewsOK site recently?
I now have reservations about him being a Sooner.
No, what’s up.
Here it is.
http://newsok.com/article/5436190
Saw it and he seem real uncomfortable when talking schools and recruiting in general. We will see if he is at the top of OU’s radar or if they have someone else on their board. Not worried as I’m more focused on Tramonda Moore & Greg Little. We get those two studs, I’m a happy guy.
Same here, getting those two would be tremendous.
That would be huge to land those two.
Not only the “anything but” also his demeanor and the way he expresses himself. Not a fan.
I personally think he waited too long now. Those others I mentioned are definitely projected at LB. bundage is a tweener type. Those others are also highly rated.
I wonder if Baxter still has a redshirt year?
That’s what some are saying, 3 for 2.
Thats awesome especially since hes a walk on, hope he earns a full ride.
I tell ya, this week has been very good. I hope that we can continue to build on this and get some more exciting commits in the coming weeks. BOOMER!!!!
SOONER!!!!
One or more commits today and we will officially shut down Twitter.
https://twitter.com/ou_coachviney/status/627529481729650689
This is getting crazy but I love it!
Can anyone see my post. Every time I type something in and I leave this website and come back to it I don’t see it at all. It is not refreshing either.
See you Loud and Clear! Are you on most popular comments, or most recent? sometimes computers will switch back to most popular automatically..
Thanks Daddy R. I keep forgetting that it happens from time to time and need to look at that more often. Thanks for mentioning that.
No Problemo! I notice mine does that when I run a anti-virus scan, or other programs that clear the internet cache and such…
Nope, not seeing it at all. 🙂
Me neither, HotRod…can’t see your post at all. Haha
Ps Baxter reports Tuesday….third leading juco receiver 1 was Dede
I watched his hudl film from his sophomore year: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2721290/highlights/164041375/v2
He has good hands and elusiveness, reminds me a little of Jalen Saunders but not as fast. He has good but not great speed. You can only glean so much from a highlight film since they only include the best plays. I think he has a chance to see some playing time as we will be using a lot of different WRs in each game, but I expect him to be down the list behind a number of others if he makes the field. His biggest offers were from TTU & USF. But since he’s a walk on and isn’t costing us anything, it’s a perfect situation for OU…best case is that maybe we got a steal, and worst case is he never sees the field. Either way, a scholarship won’t be taken up unless he earns one his senior year. It’s a win-win, and I’m happy we have another WR in the mix.
True, about highlight film, but add the highlights with stats, what is impressive is the 100+ yards/game. The extra competition among OUr receivers (not so impressive last year) should be good.
It’s worth mentioning that the conference TVCC plays in is a tough one, with Blinn, Kilgore, Tyler and others. OU has an excellent WR commit from Tyler JC, Ryan Parker.
Lots of fast, talented athletes in that juco conference.
Don’t forget NEO
I didn’t realize NEO was in the same conference, but it certainly is.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwest_Junior_College_Football_Conference#Current_members
Yep. Parker vs. Chandler at NEO Sept. 19th. I will be there.
I wan to see us get more NEO players too. If Santa grants my wish, OU will get Kelly and NEO’s Baccus and Okudah on D, and we’ll raid the best in-state talent this year.
roster lists 19 te/wr, baxter makes 20……..of course, some are filler and have little/no chance of pt……..will be some fierce comp for playing time
We’ve gone all day without a BOOM. OU’s recruiting has really fallen off the map.
Fire kish…Fire MStoops…coach B is slipping…OU football is not as prestigious as tOSU,FSU,BAMA,Auburn…recruits don’t remember OU’s dominance…We can’t compete..This conference sucks..S Dale was right…
I’m greedy. I want more booms!!!
I have heard from other boards that there may be one coming pretty soon. I hope the info is correct because I want a repeat of last night on Twitter.
Burn it down…
G-Day minus 35
A Sooner legend, another All-American, and two greats (that I can think of) to wear this number.
Seth Littrell
Litrell popped into my mind first, but Billy Vessels is the winner in my book. Part of the greatest era of OU football, first Heisman winner…hard for me to vote for anyone else. I wish I had been alive to see the Wilkinson Sooners.
You and me both bruh. I was spoon fed with Switzer and after.

Thanks for sharing this classic. I grew up in Cleveland, OK
Love watching the Sooner Greats. Glad I could bring a smile.

Hope he remembered to pack his BOOM for the OU trip.
Commit watch???
I think so but southall hasn’t or isn’t very active on Twitter from what I can remember so it’s hard to get a read on him.
Imagine that! A young person who can refrain from tweeting about it every time he so much as farts.
I like him already.
I am exceptionally happy for the Youngquist commitment. We need and cannot get enough Cali talent, and this one is a major talent according to TFB. If we want to be great again, we need to have a great defense. I want to see us get back to having our most talented players on defense. This is a GREAT step in that direction especially if Ricky DeBerry and Neville Gallimore prove to be as good as advertised. We still need an overhaul in defensive philosophy from the last 2 years, but the talent pool appears to be increasing.
If we add Caleb Kelly we will have some amazing talent for the future.
I am really looking forward to seeing this defense play this upcoming season. I am thinking we are going to be pleasantly surprised. I think that the experience the young guys got last year is going to show up big time this year, especially with Cook being in charge of all the DB’s. I think a lot of the problems last year were directly related to having the DB’s as two separately coached groups.
Agree. Really jacked for it all. Having Riley install a cohesive offense will also help take off some pressure if he has a QB. Could be special.
I think Cooks will make them better. I just want to see us get back to more pressure defense and man coverage. The only consistent thing I’ve seen in the Big 12 is that those who rely heavily on zone defense like we did under BV and the last 2 seasons get picked apart.
It seems the coaches have really put an emphasis on getting the defense back to where it needs to be. I like how this class is shaping up.
Can someone fill me in, could there be a ‘BOOM’ today?? I know TFB said possibility of good news next week but is there something goin on today?
Denzel or Leeloo won’t cut it if we get this young man. Probably need the Bikini Atoll shot.
https://twitter.com/clicclac97/status/627556589461860353
Thanks for posting. It was interesting to see an actual scholarship offer.
You don’t truly and for real have an offer unless you have one of these.
Bow-Ties are cool. Dr Who says so… 🙂
Besides obviously being really good football players Sylvie and Youngquist seem like level headed young men who genuinely fell in love with OU.
It must be love, he can’t stay away…and he will be enrolling in January.
*Edit= 00ps, just refreshed and saw this image was already added as an update.

Exactly. I guess they now all know why its referred to as God’s Country. It is nice to to read and just sense the enthusiasm he has for coming to OU.
I’m back. Well, did we get a BOOM!?
NO!!
What did you do, Sam? You must have changed something in the ploy. Bet you stopped for some disgustingly delicious treat.
You know, I didn’t go shopping. Be back in a minute. LOL!
LOL!
Just chill, we can wait until Sunday. Let the young men savor their experience at OU.
I’m guessing the official offers were emailed this year. That’s a first right?
Was just at OUInsider. Was curious to see if anything has changed. It has. They now have advertising on their message board. Got out of there quick and came here, hoping for a BOOM. Not yet it would seem. There’s still plenty of weekend left.
What, three booms in two days isn’t enough? LOL Man, you are hard core.
LOL. There was three BOOMS? I must have missed one. Not sure how unless you’re referring to Baxter, the walk-on WR, as number three. I know we have a good shot at DT Southall. That’s who I was thinking of and kind of hoping for..
Yes, counting Baxter. Chip Viney also tweeted this morning “Just wait on it”. Last time that was tweeted Chanse Sylvie committed. Maybe OU was able to pick up Southall, or one of those secret visitors that Super K referenced yesterday. Would be fantastic.
Yeah, it was the Viney tweet that made me think we could see something today. That and Sylvie’s. Getting two felt so good, it was easy to think a third was in the offing.
I was trying to get some momentum on twitter today along the #OUDNA theme to get a permanent position for Viney. Not much traction, I got a few favs from people but no one seemed interested in getting the ball rolling.
I’m thinking it will be a DB if Viney’s tweeting it, so hopefully that means Okudah.
Word on some other boards is that we should have a Boom some time Sunday. Fingers crossed.
He favorited my tweet…maybe there’s a chance?
No telling what that means, Parker Boudreaux did a similar thing.

Are you referring to the ads on the message boards at OUInsider? I saw that. Yuk!

Who is Marcus? Marcel’s dad?
UFC PPV time.. Y’all hold the fort down while i watch Rousey mess this girl up..
Dumb question perhaps, but who is Marcus to Marcel? His dad? His coach?
According to Lind, Nike is planning on using this design or something similar for an alternate jersey this season. (Refresh for pic)
I like it.
With black pants…I could see it. I’m going to reserve judgement until I see I full official uni though.
I gotta say black unis are legit.
If this is real, I’d like to see what they do with the helmet. I know black is something the players would like and it’s about them not us as fans.
I don’t understand, why isn’t it about the fans? We are the ones who want to watch them play.
Especially when some fans like it and some don’t. I imagine it is the same with the players, some will like it and some won’t.
For teams with no history or tradition of success, like Taco Tech/Oregon/Baylor it makes a lot of sense, they had to jump up and down and yell “look at me.”
Black isn’t and never has been a part of the school’s colors, except for the shoes.
Stephen, gotta say I’m on your side on majority of things. However, these uniforms aren’t OU. I’m going to ask a simple question, does Bama/Penn State/tOSU (i could go on) change their unis? Same reason as OU, we have a brand, no need in changing it IMO.
I believe teams should trot out an alternative each year. Yes ou doesn’t need gimmicks but by going out once at home and once on the road, they aren’t throwing away tradition. To me they still need fresh ideas to keep up with the times and in this era of college football, fresh uniforms matter to the kids everyone wants to recruit.
I do agree it’s not a necessity but I’m open to having 2 games a year with alternates. If the coaches and players do their job they will get to play 2 post season games, in which case it would make up for those 2 where they wore alternates.
I’m not for or against these until I see the entire uniform, if these are indeed the real deal. These are obviously just the shirt-jerseys that are modeled after the real thing (allegedly) but Texsa, Bama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Oregon would be getting these as well.
Uniforms evolve over time but using the ‘school colors’. I’m good with it as long as OU sticks w/ crimson and cream. Got used to and like the white ‘bring the wood’ jersey and helmets.
Ohio State does indeed have alternate uniforms.
I see your argument, and I agree with some of it but uni’s, stadiums, dorms are all playing a bigger role in recruiting than ever before. For schools like OU that has a lot of tradition, it’s hard to balance the past with the future and I honestly don’t think they can or will ever make something that does both and pleases both sides. It’s like in the 90’s when nobody needed a cell phone to live, communicate, be social and now if you don’t have one, it’s a knock against you.
I have to respond to the 90’s analogy.
You and I know each other well enough to understand we can disagree without being disagreeable. So we have that going for us. 🙂
Your analogy illustrates why we disagree on the unis, it is age and experience related. I have approximately 40 years on you and were I in your age group or you were in mine we would probably disagree on this for the same reasons we do now.
You probably have little memory of people without cell phones. I remember a time when not only did they not exist, many people had “party lines” on their home phones and not a “private.”
Me, I carried a pager through most of the 80’s and would exit a busy freeway to find a pay phone. Then I got my first “car” phone in 90. It was analog and cost over $400 and was charged 36 cents a minute. My monthly phone bill be about an inch thick and was generally around $500 a month. But it was crucial to me, made me much more productive and helped generate substantial profit.
Now I have a quad-core smart-aleck phone that reads my text messages to me while I drive and allows me to text back the same way. The monthly bill is only a fraction of what it used to be and I have interweb access, HD screen, camera and navigation to boot.
While we couldn’t have known what was to come 25 years ago with the advances in digital tech, I believe it was the desire by so many that the tech behind it was driven.
However, when I retire(which I hope is soon, Lord willing), I will keep a smart-aleck phone, but doubt I will turn it on very often. I look forward to not needing it.
Everybody loves a good 90’s analogy (-:
We sure as hell are the ones shelling out the $ for tickets…
I hate this jersey, hate any part of black…
Proof we have worn black and white. 😉
Yes, but in “those times” EVERY team wore black and white….
Yes, indeed. Attempted comedy. 🙂
For me, I love the tradition of everything that is OU. However, a couple of games a year for the kids to “express themselves” is ok with me. I would like to see the traditional jerseys as the norm, but alt jersey for a big game is cool to see also. My real concern is how we play, not what we wear. But I would truly feel a loss of something sacred if we lost the OU on the side of the helmet.
I’d rather see the alternates used against Akron, Tulsa, and Iowa State. I’d rather see the traditional unis in the BIG games.
Team with tradition make few uniform modifications. Those without do. We have had recruits speak about they love our traditional uniforms.
If you win, you don’t need to change. If not, I guess you do
I looked at the current top ten in recruiting standings at rivals, not one of the top ten schools uses gimmick uniforms.
We have this same discussion this time every year and as some one said last year “why mess with perfection?”
Indeed.
Thank you for quoting me!
Yes. And unless I dreamed it all last night, did OUr team not beat out THE “uniform change monster” of them all to land a certain highly desired LB from Cali?
Not to be rude but where have you seen recruits rave about our traditional uniforms? Most of the recruits that post their picture in an Sooners jersey are wearing last year’s “Bring The Wood” jersey.
I don’t see how alternates that are worn once or twice a year suddenly take a school who’s tradition is winning more than anything else, and makes it a gimmicky school with 0 tradition. Every school you just started has, or is getting thsee exact same uniforms, so those weren’t facts. Uniforms don’t change the name of the school, the players on the team, the gameday traditions, or anything else. Just the uniform (for one or two games) which has been changed many times in the past.
I also don’t get how just because we have an alternate uniform, that becomes the main selling point to recruits. Its not. It’s just another small thing that you can offer when recruiting. Still have to do hone visits, still have to build relationships, still have to win on the field.
Several players have said that over the years.
And several players have asked for alternates including players from that 2008 team and Brennan Clay during OU media day. They’re never going make everyone happy if choose to use a new uniform or not but if the coaches think they could use them than why not?
Stephen,
Not rude at all. A legitimate question. I don’t have problems with alternate uniforms, as long as the respect OUs tradition. Changes colors is, in my opinion, outside OU’s tradition.
I have only had fans talk about the importance of the glittery alternate uniforms. Not the recruits. I would have to go to the other board an run it down. But the only time I have heard a recruit bring up uniforms would be two years ago this December, a 2014 recruit’s mom comments that when he committed he loved OU’s traditional uniform. OU’s uniforms are recognized across the country. I believe we, like some teams, some of which are recruiting and playing very well, need to play to our strengths, which includes that OU is unique with unrivaled tradition.
Alternate uniforms, OK. Changing the brand, which includes drastic color changes is a slope that takes away OU uniqueness, in my opinion. (I am totally OK with those that don’t agree.)
I have read stories that Coach Stoops was saying that the players were excited about playing in the alternate uniform. That is different. That one instance where I heard the comment from a recruit’s mom is the only time where I have heard a recruit comment, one way or the other.
I have less problems with the uniform than I do people saying that it is a significant issue in recruiting. I don’t see the compelling evidence to support that position.
But, I am old and have been wrong many times before.
You make excellent points and I don’t think we will ever see much of a design change to the every-week uniform. However, I don’t see a negative to wearing something a bit different one or two Saturdays a season. Grabs media attention and thus grabs recruits attention. As for the colors, there’s not much you can mix with crimson and cream other than another neutral color like black or grey. Personally I’d like to see all white or all crimson with matte helmets.
Amen, brother!
I don’t think we as fans can sit back and whine and belly ache about losing recruiting battles with the Baylors and TCU’s and not think that these new uniform schemes have nothing to do with it.
Kids now are going because they are winning AND these teams new way o thinking. They are not stuck in the past. I love OUs tradition and history. Some of these new kids know nothing of it. The want something cool and splashy and if OU wants to keep up they are going to need to include some options.
I’m not sure how this particular one looks as a full uni, need to see pants and a helmet, but I’d buy it as a shirt if I saw it. I like it.
I like it as a shirt. My favorite ou shirt I own, is a black bedlam shirt from 2010 or so.
As a Sooner fan from birth I fully understand the tradition angle but, I am far more interested in winning and allowing that be our tradition than our uniforms. To me OU needs to do whatever it takes to secure the top talent around.
Honestly if we were in the SEC I would say no to new uniforms. But we are in the freaking big 12 and every school but Texas is doing this. And it just happens to be us as Texas who have sucked it up lately.
In the end our tradition is about winning and whatever it takes to keep that tradition going I am all for.
While I think the high school kids like the idea of ever changing uniforms, I don’t think any player we’d want makes his decision based on a uniform. He might add that as a bonus in his decision, but I really don’t think the uni makes or breaks a commitment. If so, then Oregon, Miami, Texas, LSU would never get a recruit with their ugly uniforms.

Uhhh…NO… article on Neb ‘Big Red’ and the ‘disturbing trend’ of black/alt. unis..
http://nypost.com/2015/08/01/nebraska-big-red-latest-to-sell-out-jerseys-in-disturbing-trend/
Excellent piece.
Lots of Husker fans are not pleased with this.
apparently, ain’t just ou……….if true, and traditional powers are caving to nike, I like this alt better than the wood look crap……….prefer the traditionals all the time but they aren’t asking me……via os……..
“The Oklahoma Sooners are one of nine schools that will don black Nike alternate uniforms this upcoming season, according to a report from the Tidewater News’ Andrew Lind.
Along with OU, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas will all wear the alternates, Lind reports.”
So much for bob poo pooing the jersey then.
stephen…….remember seeing mont wearing a combo red/black ou shirt while coaching and if I was a young guy still buying that stuff I would have
Yes, he wore that quite a bit actually. I’m not a huge fan of using black in our jerseys but if done right I could see how it could look pretty flashy.
Ugh! That is ugly. I hope Bob poo poos it. Since when are our school colors Crimson and Cream…and Black???? Screw tradition, why don’t we just add a nice chartreuse or mauve or flourescent lime green alternate uniform?
UFC is going to have to find some women who can at least last two rounds with Rousy. I like her and all but I will not spend money on a card she is headlining. It is just a waste of money. I might as well be watching Mike Tyson fighting a 3rd grader for his candy.
I’m looking forward to Rousey vs Tate 3. No ones come closer to beating Ronda than her. I’m interested in seeing if she can last even longer against rousey.
I dont think shes “close” to winning, shes simply tough enough to survive with ronda longer than most. Rousey is MUCH better than when she fought meisha the 2nd time, i dont see much changing in the 3rd fight.
Oh, I absolutely agree. Ronda has never stopped improving. When you watch her earlier fights it’s night and day (she was pretty sloppy, actually!). Miesha doesn’t improve at the rate Ronda does, none of them do. But I think Tate’s survivability is what makes their fights so much more enjoyable than say, Rousey vs Correia (or a fight vs Eye, Holm, McMann, etc). I do want to see Zingano get another shot at her. Big fan of hers and I was pretty heartbroken that she lost the way she did.
Try watching women’s strawweight division. Far more talented women, though smaller, and much more exciting.
Cyborg is the only woman that can hang with her.. Tate is tough but not even remotely talented enough.. Cyborg needs to make the weight..
Good morning fellow faniacs. Seems like a good day to feel the boom! Boomer!
Sooner! After two straight days with booms I was ready for another one yesterday, maybe we will get one today.
I like your optimism. 😀
I’m usually pretty optimistic with everything. It’s always a blessing to live everyday. So many good things in life to be positive about, no since in spending too much time on the negative. Ready for some football, it’s gonna be a good year! Boomer!
Yessir, you are correct…on all counts.
I wake up, sit up and say “Thank you, Lord.” It’s all gravy after that. 🙂
S00NER!!!
God is good all the time and I’m thankful for every day I get to spend here on His Earth. I enjoy my family I have been blessed with, have a good job and church family. Lots of wonderful blessing. Oh yeah, and I’m a Sooner, icing on the cake!
Like that ET. Gonna copy that and put it on my bathroom mirror. Something inspiring to look at every morning. Have a wonderful day my friend!
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.” Charles Swindoll
Hopefully! Already a great weekend but man that would be some nice icing on top of the cake.
Like syrup on pancakes?
/mmmm
Yup and P&J:-)
Now I’m hungry. 🙂
Eas – for once, I got to the table before the brainiac gang could make me hungry – not a very conventional breakfast, but soooo good.
I had Key Lime PIE for breakfast. Sat on my back porch and had it with cups of Kona coffee – reflecting on Sooner BOOMS.
I love Kona almost as much as I love Jamaican Blue Mountain.
You are off to a good start.
I tried JBM, but still prefer Kona (and it’s “cheaper”). Still, I’d spend the money anytime fore one good thing rather than a bucket of so-so.
When I brew up some JaBlum I only use the coffee press. The caramel colored foam at the top is pure ecstasy.
I recently tried some Honduran coffee. The beans were HUGE, poor old grinder never worked so hard, but the flavor was amazing.
Well that pretty much settles my breakfast debate. PB pancakes with maple syrup and bacon it is.
Hey, I made pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs this morning for the kids and grands. I call it SHOP (Slim’s House of Pancakes). Must be the day for another BOOM!
I read this and immediately went to the kitchen and made pancakes, sausage and bacon. It certainly will be a good day!! Boomer!!
You da’man!
S00NER!!!
Sooner! I feel another Boom coming.
Jarvis Baxter looks like the real deal. Great hands and concentration. Runs really well with good field vision after the catch.
Plus he found the end zone on some nice intermediate routes as well.
G-Day minus 34
We are almost there. I am soooo ready for live action.
The great Spencer Tillman

Tillman had some serious jets on him!! That boy could fly!!
Not only could he fly, he seemed to have thrust vectoring. 🙂
Those last second pitches in a couple of plays were almost impossible for defenses to deal with when coupled with that kind of acceleration and speed. Exciting as heck. I think we’re going to be very exciting with our new offense this year as well. And we’ve got some of that special speed again on the field!
He could definitely scoot. At the time, I don’t believe he was considered to be anywhere near our fastest running back, but he was very shifty and surprisingly powerful. My favorite play in the early ’80’s was his dive from the five yard line for the TD.
That was my favorite play of his also and I can tell you first hand that he could flat scoot.
This is what Ross should look like with an OC that knows how to use him.
Ross is fast and powerful, but God Bless him, he is not elusive.
There is no one more likely to score than him, but only if the field opens up and he doesn’t have to make people miss.
Agree with this 100%. Love watching Ross on kickoffs and a few sweeps a game but if you watch his footwork he is not elusive and is easily tripped up in the hole. Love the guy as a Sooner and hope he makes some improvements cause he’s a monster with track speed but unfortunately, I don’t believe what he lacks can be coached up much.
I’m sure hoping he has a great year in his roll and sets some records on returns for us.
I’ll be interested to see if he continues to develop. He showed a little shimmy toward the end of last year. I’m hoping…
Fair enough. But in those highlights above, a decent amount were Tillman just blowing past everyone. In those situations, I can see Ross doing just that.
He just has so much power in his legs, he can’t overcome the inertia generated when he accelerates to make quick, subtle cuts. What I’m hoping to see is him taking some short swing passes and having some daylight where he can turn on the jets.
Nothing wrong with having another set of skills. If he can blow into the secondary, he is the most likely back to make it to the house. He just plays for a team with insane RB talent, so carries/catches might be rare when they have to be handed out.
Coming out of the back field any LB trying to stay with him on a well thrown swing pass will be in chase mode.
He is a threat to score any time he has the ball, they just need to find the right plays for that to happen. Between the tackles is not his strength.
Yep.
Indeed. That, or some well designed counters through the middle. IIRC, he scored on one of those last year.
I was very impressed with how Tillman broke off his fakes. He would throw a fake but then he wouldn’t wait for the defender to take the fake. By the time the defender reacted to the fake, Tillman was moving the other way. The defender never had a chance.
Those runners like Tillman ran downhill & got quick speed due to that crown and it didn’t help the defenders. Not only was Spencer a great RB & OKIE, he was a true leader on and off the field.
I smiled while watching cause I played on that field and the crown was unreal. When looking across the field, you could only see their heads. Due to passing, fields are flat or barely have a crown but not like the wishbone days. Good stuff.
Thanks, as always!
Saw this on twitter after the Rousey fight. Credit to @bennettberry LOL ?
The ass whoopin was just as epic…the photo fits well. Franchione’s ego and pride felt about like her jaw did last night. ?
This game is one of the reasons that so many people in Alabama like the Oklahoma Sooners. One of my friends who is an extreme Alabama fan, absolutely loved it when the OU band started playing “Sweet Home Alabama” in the fourth quarter. We got them their revenge on Franchione.

I love this kids energy!
Gotta love a kid with this much enthusiasm to be HERE. He seems to be all in. Thanks, BC for the countdown pics. It’s appreciated.
He reminds me a lot of Sunderland. To me they even look identical.
LOL. Yeah, they sure do!
Glad you enjoy them. It is amazing how much is on Youtube. It truly is amazing.
Ebullient
[ih-buhl-yuh nt, ih-boo l-]
adjective
1. overflowing with fervor, enthusiasm,
or excitement; high-spirited:
The award winner was in an ebullient
mood at the dinner in her honor.
2. bubbling up like a boiling liquid.
It pays to enrich your word power.
LOL!
That is the first word that popped into my head after the way he reacted when he committed. Too bad it doesn’t work as a nick name.
I don’t know, maybe work the “bull’ part in there somewhere as a nick?
Maybe you could use your talents to help Texsa with their writing, especially after scholly offers went out with another spelling error this year.
Texsa si fi nohting esle, consistetn. (:
LOL!
They cannot be redeemed.
Too much action. Jordan, I am sorry that we keep you from ever having a day off…but then it is SOONER football after all.
Wait doesn’t fall practice start this week?!?!
Thursday is what I heard. And media day on Saturday
Just one step closer to football again in Oklahoma, honestly I’m pumped.
Once practice starts then time will fly
Baxter seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
https://twitter.com/boomer145/status/627897568865849344
Got a hunch this young man is going to be an asset to us in the future. Coach Riley, too!! It’s good to be a a Sooner.
I hope he makes it. Love the attitude. If he does make it, his story might inspire others. The “tradition” shout-out might also resonate with current recruits.
‘Tradition’ seems to be a theme with Chanse and BY, too. When you visit OU and begin to see there are statues, photos and championship trophies that go back just a couple of years to many decades…not just a couple of mannequins modeling black and grey alternate uniforms and some participation ribbons.
Stoops often said that OU was a destination not a stepping stone.
You shouldn’t pick on oSu’s “trophy room” even if it is like the one at Greg Focker’s parents’ house. To quote DeNiro…”I’ve never seen such a celebration of mediocrity…I didn’t know they made 9th place ribbons.”
I’d rather have 1 of these guys than 10 DGBs. Love the attitude with no baggage like drug crimes or violence against women, he wants to be here above all other schools, he isn’t scared of hard work, and he wants to earn his degree. I’m rooting hard for Baxter to make it at OU. He’s quickly becoming 1 of my favorites in this class.
Should Shannon & Mixon be here? Why not bring up some of the guys Switzer had who had drug crimes or violence against women. I’m not a DGB fan but I can let go if he follows the rules moving forward. Also, Bob Stoops is the Head Coach last I remembered, not you.
You are making progress that you can compliment Baxter without throwing a shot at Mike Stoops too.
I like to compare apples to apples. Mixon had one incident and from every account I have heard, he was NOT the aggressor and was battered first by the female. I don’t know Shannon’s full story but if the DA found insufficient evidence to charge, then it might mean some of those reports that the accuser was lying in the first place might be true. That said, if either were dismissed by Bob I wouldn’t have had a problem with it.
Since you asked about Switzer guys, Jerry Parks was one of my favorite Switzer era DBs but he proved to be a sack of crap and was rightly booted. Same for Bernard Hall, Glenn Bell & Nigel Clay. Throw Charles Thompson in there too. I thought the world of Barry Switzer as a coach and a recruiter. I’ve met Barry probably a half dozen to a dozen times and he’s a very nice guy. But he was not a great judge of character, at least not toward the end of his career. Otherwise, his tenure at OU would not have ended so unceremoniously.
As an OU alumnus, I was thoroughly embarrassed by the aforementioned turds and Barry is as responsible as anyone for bringing them here. Gary Gibbs may not have been a dynamic head coach and he didn’t win enough, but I appreciate his integrity and what he did to restore character to the OU football program.
Mike Stoops? I still think Bob fired the wrong coaches and unless Mike rediscovers his defensive philosophy during his first stint at OU, then he needs to go. But it’s a little late for that now since the season is about to begin. We’ll have to grin and bare it for another season and hope for the best.
As for your endless obsession with commenting on any post I make…I don’t know if I should be flattered or petition the court for a VPO. Perhaps you should consider seeking out some professional help.
God bless you either way.
Amen
I think he’ll make it and I don’t think it will be that much of a surprise when he does.
Welcome to Oklahoma and to OU Jarvis- look forward to seeing you contribute to OU’s future success.
New uniform crisis is over. (Refresh for pic)
Crisis averted…stand down..I say again, stand down.
ok, geez, I’m ready for fall practice with limited access, rumors and rumors of rumors…….
Agreed 100%
Good. Don’t mind black so much just the designs they had.
Thank goodness
Rivals reporting good news today, any insight?
What was the report?
Speculating… Johncarlo Valentin
He’s visiting Michigan this weekend
He could still be a BOOM!
Just that they are hearing “good news” is coming today…
Well I wonder what it might be. But I think Robert Barnes is a silent commit because I saw that josh m put out a tweet saying he committed and then I guess it was deleted before I actually saw it.
My guess southall. I can’t imagine the secret visitor would flip right away but I could be wrong.
“I can’t say too much right now but I think you all may be getting some good news today.
More coming later…”
So I’m on vacation in Destin, Florida and apparently we are staying in a Bama fans condo because their password is roll tide. It pained me to have to type that but the wifi didn’t work. So they had us use another router and the password on it was war eagle.
Use hand sanitizer often
and anti-viral software
Maybe, just leave the owner a Thank You note, ending with, “Remember the Sugar Bowl! January 2, 2014!”
Get some BlackMagic tire cleaner and write BOOMER SOONER on the sidewalk or drive…every time it rains it will show up…hahahha
Dede stuff:

Thanks.
Caleb stuff:

Hopefully Bryce Youngquists decision won’t affect Caleb Kelly’s. We could have the best linebacker recruits we’ve ever had.
I think Bryce is only going to help land kelly, not sure if they know each other well or not but landing top talent attracts other top talent.
And the ‘tards will still be calling for Kish’s head on a platter.
Did James Hale write that? Lol
Jordan – Any insight into the “good news’ that rivals is reporting?
What good news is that?
A well connected poster at Rivals heard of a commit being announced soon, and let Josh know, apparently Josh got in contact with said recruit and posted that we should be hearing good news today (though the more the day goes on with no news thinking it might be tomorrow).
I’ve been checking in at least every half hour today waiting for good news. Not much got done around here on the home front!
What’d you hear? Link?
Couldn’t really say. I know what our guys know and that’s there really isn’t anything news-wise going down, at least that we are aware of. But things can change quickly, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Whatever happens know our guys most definitely have their ears to the ground.
Appreciated….

Hasn’t even played his senior season of HS football and he sounds like a future collegiate team captain. Just let him join the 2015 class already!
Hopefully his ebullience will have an impact on other recruits.
These last three ‘commits’ have been effusive about their desire to be Sooners!! Love’n it!!
https://media2.giphy.com/media/oRjpfvd9Ox5Oo/200.gif
I said ebullience, not lethargy. 🙂
Pimpin’ aint easy!
That would be most sublime.
The HULK is predicting the future. I like his thought process!!
What’d he say?
Refresh.
Why would he say “refresh” ? 🙂
Because he likes sweet-iced tea…like me. :->
Gracias, senor.
Avec plaisir.
I sure hope so, I love that movie.

Kubrick – indeed.
A bit of the old ultra violence, me droogs? This movie predicted the loss of morals and increased acts of violence among the young almost 50 years ago.
Yessir, looking for some “ultra-violence” within the confines of the rules, of course.
The scene where they brutalize the couple in their country house, that actually occurred to the author of the book in his London apartment. Always thought he was a brave man to write the story. Violent street gangs in London aren’t new and the violent crime rate per 100,000 in the UK dwarfs the U.S.
Because civilians aren’t packing heat like we can 🙂
Certainly part of it. And the reason that some politicians want to take them away.
And they report FAR fewer crimes then we do here. As in many European cultures the police are viewed with disdain and hostility, or they figure they would be better off dealing with it themselves.
Huge News!
https://twitter.com/49BryceFootball/status/627984912713322496
That is fantastic news.
He seems focused and serious minded, so this statement(while welcomed) is not surprising.
J. Baxter reminds me a bit of Mark Clayton when running after catch.
K or Jordan was just sitting here talking to a few tOsu linemen and Akron got brought up since its OUr first game ( yeah they all give me crap). But I was just seeing if you’d do a write up on the Zips because they actually have like 6 transfers on their D who are from big programs. They actually believe Akron will have a solid defense, like one that could make us look bad for our first game. Just seeing your guy’s thoughts on it. I know they have 2 good de’s who came from tOsu.
Interesting. Definitely something I could see jy doing one of his write ups which have been missed.
Yeah or jy. Forgot about the big guy. Not to mention look up Akrons coaching staff, its pretty solid. I think they’ll make it more interesting than us Sooner fans want.
I just want to see our defense give up 10 or less. I don’t know that the offense is going to show too much prior to Tennessee. But maybe Riley will just open the playbook from day one and not worry about who’s looking at film.
I agree. It’ll definitely be an early test for our young tackles. I know their 2 de’s are from tOsu and their good players.
You would think, that the more Riley opens it up, the more time DC’s have to spend coming up with ways to defend us, the better- dunno.
I can only hope their play is more inspired than their preview. video.
https://youtu.be/p9td8tNLuN4
Haha that’s their inspiration. That horrid video.
Yikes.
BTW, hope Momma and baby girl are happy and healthy.
That’s their inspiration. That horrid video they produced.
If I had to make a pump up video of my first marriage, it would probably look like this, except more penalties, more injuries and less touchdowns.
Calling this video a pump up is like calling Jeffrey Dahmer a chef. :-0
That is sad. Really, really sad. If that were some random fan, you would go OK guy is new at this or just doesn’t get it. But this was posted by “The ZTV Sports Report is the only full-length television show exclusively dedicated to The University of Akron. We are everything Akron athletics.” If any of those folks got a degree from Akron they should ask for their money back.
Sounds like an old PBS documentary
If they knew anything about marketing would they call their team the “zips!?” Designed to strike fear in the heart of all stretchable fabrics!
Is it that or “we lose everything 50 to zip?”
I am a confessed pumper, I despise the negativity I see day in and day out. It doesn’t apply just to sports. I want my entire life to be up beat and forward going and thinking. Prov 23:7 says “As a man thinks, so is he”. I want to think positive, I want to be positive. I think that’s one of the reasons I have always chosen to be a Sooner fan. Looking at the caliber of young men we now have assembled, and some still on the way, looking at the changes in coaching, the attitudes, how diversity is overcome, thinking about the 2000 nc team and all of its similarities to this team, my pumper blood is getting excited. I’m even excited about the unknowns, the QB, the O Line, the D line, it all gets me fired up. I’m ready!!!! I’m nearly 60 years old, but this afternoon, I thought just for a moment I could strap up and play myself. I know the young men are ready. Time to make a run at #8. Boomer!!!!
I don’t think “pumper” is the appropriate term, “well adjusted” is what I call it.
S00NER!
Or glass has at least a sip left
If that is all there is, I just get some more. 😀
Preach it, brother!
You mean you’re “clear eyed and realistic” about OU and it’s upcoming season. I am as pumped up as you are!
So if I think I’m 7′ tall, does that mean I’ll become 7′ tall? 😉
In all seriousness, I’m a recovering pumper turned realist. But I wake up happy and I go to bed happy, and I sure can’t fault any man for being positive toward life. We need more of that in this world.
look forward to a tfb/ jy article on the ol sometime before the fireworks…….

#JustWaitOnIt
Who was the secret visitor that was in this weekend that you said had been identified?
My comment would be deleted if I told you and I really don’t feel like making the guys work late on a Sunday. All I will say is he was considered “all ou”
key word here being “was”?
Yes. I don’t remember where tfb stood on this recruit but I do remember josh m from SS was very confident ou would land him.
Parrish Cobb?
K D
Do you lift bro?
OSU student walking by; “YOU BEEN WAITIN’ LONG?”
The Sooners are getting down with the get down and pulling in Defensive players.
RE: Youngquist: Yeah, baby!!!!!!!!
Ok has anyone else noticed that Kansas has been in some pretty big profile guys top 10 list. That is a big step for them I feel like.
God Bless, the Jayhnawks are starting this season with 61 scholarship players. One thing they can offer is immediate playing time for the 2016 class.
So can Iowa state…I’d think ISU football would be a step up from ku in recent years
New coach who has some decent recruiting skills and ties from when he was at A&M.
Yeah…all I can do is shake my head and ask WTH?
That’s awesome news from Youngquist. The young man is confident with his decision and clearly understands what he wants. He found it. It’s OU. That’s just very rare and cool to not still go on visits just because. He clearly understands and respects what commitment means.
As this weekend starts to come to a close, I’d like to give a round of applause to TFB for an outstanding Open Post with great information and timely updates all weekend. It’s been a great weekend for the future of Sooner Football and I am thankful for Jordan, K and everyone else involved in this magnificent website for the timely information and insights. I am also thankful for the knowledge and information that is shared by my fellow posters. Keep up the great work my Sooner brethren!! BOOMER!!
Wouldn’t be what it is without all of you.
S00NER!!
Nearly 900 posts in a weekend with no troll fights……I would call that a solid site. 🙂
