Good morning! Hope everyone had a nice weekend.
– Tre Jackson: As many of you may have noted, OU CB target Tre Jackson (Baton Rouge, LA) committed to South Carolina this past weekend. This wasn’t a huge surprise as you’ll recall he told us a week or two back that South Carolina would be tough to beat. – (Super K)
– Bryce Youngquist: As you all know already, the Sooners hosted 2016 Rancho Cucamonga(CA) 2016 linebacker Bryce Youngquist on Friday. And, as many of you hoped and/or expected, I’m told OU really rolled out the red carpet for his visit. But will it be enough to land the athletic linebacker? We will find out in the next week or so.
I had a chance to talk with Youngquist last night and as he’s done with us and others many times, he continued to maintain that Oregon is his top school. But it’s clear OU gave him something to think about.
Youngquist said that Oklahoma seemed much like Oregon in that he got a sense it was a close-knit group and a family atmosphere. He said OU seemed like a much smaller school than its actual attendance and that everything is centered around the football program, which he liked.
I asked him if Oregon was still the favorite to which he said, “ yes, but the OU visit has made the decision tougher. I really like both schools.”
My guess is the longer it takes for him to make a decision, the better it could be for OU’s chances. If Youngquist sticks with his commitment timetable of next week to ten days, it certainly looks like Oregon is going to get their third outside linebacker commitment of the 2016 class. All that said, OU definitely put their best foot forward this past weekend. And in the end that’s really all you can do then simply let the chips fall where they may. – (Brandon)
– Parrish Cobb: One CB came off the board (Jackson) this weekend, but a prospect a little closer to home seems to be liking OU more and more. I spoke with 2016 CB Parrish Cobb (Waco, TX) this past weekend, who let me know he will be in Norman this coming weekend.
Cobb was at UT’s “Under the Lights” event this past weekend — as were a number of other highly touted prospects — and it seems Texas is still very much interested in Cobb. In the end it may come down to an OU vs. UT battle for Cobb, whose sister graduated from Texas so it certainly won’t be easy prying him away from the Horns. But getting him on campus as much as possible can only help things with regards to OU’s chances.
Additionally, I’m told Texas may only be taking one cornerback in this class. So if that spot fills up, it could push Cobb in OU’s direction. – (Super K)
– 2017 Recruiting: Just wanted to pass along that two top 2017 LB prospects, Levi Draper & Anthony Hines, will be in Stillwater today for an unofficial visit. Hines, however, is also planning to stop by Norman as well. – (Brandon)
– UPDATE (11:03 am): OU made a quick update to their online roster that really just consisted of jersey number assignments to those players who had not already received them (or more to the point, we as fans had not publicly been made aware of yet). Figured we’d pass those along.

First yes!!
I feel the same right now as last year when it comes to linebackers. It seemed they were in good graces with so many kids but fell short each time. At this point I don’t even know if they can get Caleb Kelly to come to OU.
Yeah, it’s frustrating. But hey the year is young. We got our two last year. It’ll happen.
It just seems like they same story. You got Kelly, Jackson, Terry, youngquist, bundage, divinty, Jefferson, etc.
We did land 2 of our top 3 realistic targets last year and let quite a few go elsewhere due to waiting on deberry and mcginnis
That was a problem. They were in on so many guys. And it just seems they let them go. At the least they should have landed wheeler.
I, for one, am glad Wheeler went to Texsa. I watched him in the playoffs, he did not hustle after the ball if it was away from him, he was heavy footed and the only thing about him that made him look like a football player was he looked good in a uniform.
Well I’m glad to know that. You only see the good when it comes to his (all players) tape. Guessing he won’t see the field at texsa for at least three years?
I would have thought playing against the number one team in the country in the playoffs would have had his juices flowing, such was not the case. He doesn’t have that “it” factor, showed no desire. If he ever starts a game I will be amazed, unless some one can get into his head and tinker with his go button.
Do believe what you just said? McGinnis was a last resort option we didn’t offer him till later in the process.
Wait, what? We offered AMG in April. Zack is right, we put a ton of weight on landing very specific kids, seemingly whiffing on a bunch of LBs to low level schools. The “letting others go” is what put Kish on alot of crosshairs last recruiting cycle
Thanks I just looked that up because I wasn’t sure exactly when but I knew it wasn’t that late. Kish was not aggressive at all last year with LB’s he waited until December and January to see what wheeler, Houston, deberry and jefferson were going to do. We were still on mcginnis the whole time but once we missed on wheeler we had to make mcginnis the guy. We knew Houston and jefferson weren’t realistic.
Wheeler, smith, and Kirkland all had the full court press on them late in the process and when they didn’t happen McGinnis was made a priority.
I was primarily addressing your claim that we didn’t offer until late in the process which was not true.
I cannot allude as to level of attention any of the LBs you list as I was not there, but AMG himself mentioned that he picked OU based on Kish’s genuineness
It’s funny how tunes change when facts are added to the equation
Hey, the numbers don’t lie, do they? I think Kish deserved some of the heat, but at least be accurate.
I agree. Everybody deserves blame for everything. I think the sheep got on the Kish train tho. Somebody started spouting off about him and the sheep have run with it
We got in on smith late and Kirkland was like Houston or jefferson, in that he wasn’t a realistic option. This is why so many were fed up with kish
You may be right but if Kirkland was not a realistic option why did the coaches make a in home visit with? I just think if they knew they had no chance spend that time on someone you do.
I believe youre wrong about this. McGinnis was a priority along with about 5 or 6 other LBs including Deberry, Kirkland, Houston, Jefferson, Wheeler and a couple of others as well. It was more a question of who would commit first. But Im pretty sure McGinnis wasnt a backup plan.
Maybe so but I don’t remember them mentioning him as a priority like they were the other ones.
And I seem to remember that he was right up there with the others.
I don’t at all.
McGinnis was a nice consolation prize for losing Malik Jefferson to Texas……
Im pretty sure that most of the top college programs in the country wouldnt mind that “consolation prize”. He was a great get!
Also Id love to see you say that to his face lol.
Oh brother. Me too. To see that mug get more rearranged would be priceless
you guys are too kind..
lol @ “more”
Haha. I wasn’t trying to bait you above. I like ol’ stevie poo. He gives me a giggle here and there
I hear what youre saying. I just wish he’d change his user name to “Stephen Bizzaro World Dale” because everything he says I always think the oppopsite.
K, I see that Baylor has 4 CB commits already; is this likely the reason Cobb is looking elsewhere?
yes……
Alright!!!! We got our daily dose of Stephan Dale’s “the sky is falling”.
see !!!!! you’re happier now, aren’t you ??
🙂
Thank you gentleman. Much appreciated
The factor OU has made it into Bryces top 2 is saying a lot.
We were in Julio Jones top TWO also. I am not concerned about stars or ratings as long as we can get high quality players. saxet’s 5-star parade under Mac-daddy didn’t keep up; but I do want to get some Tommy Harris, Adrian Peterson, G K McCoy guys too. I worry more and more that OU is a flattering offer rather than a destination.
Well winning would fix the problem
Winning would sure fix the “H” out of my frustrations. But that solution seems to be in the same circle – get good players by winning, but need good players to win. Better have some really good coaching to help the talent that is on campus.
yes, it would—quickly.
means little if Oregon gets the nod………….
Seems like we are striking out more than we have in the past.
I don’t think there’s any question, but I’m sure you could find some that would say otherwise.
I’m not big on the star ratings as some but what is alarming is not even med level guys are excited about OU.
agreed
OMG, the program is doomed forever. Might as well shut the football program down. And most of the Olympic sports programs as well. Maybe apply for admission into NAIA.
Yep, b/c that’s what anyone is saying.
No one really knows what you are saying, Jordan, since you’re so intentionally vague, so no one can pin you down.
whatever you say
Love you too buddy. Hug, hug.
You really are the most negative person I’ve ever seen on this board thats not on here just trolling or being silly. And you work for the site.
Saying something like this in response to something that’s actually a positive comment in nature strikes me as pretty foolish on your part and in no way helps the point you’re attempting to make.
But what would I know.
Watch the name calling. Foolish is a bit harsh.
You call me the most negative person you’ve ever seen on here, but I need to watch the name calling?
Um, okay.
I was being facetious.
sorry you are taking a beating today, Esco. I was just pointing out that even plan B and C are not excited about OU. Is the program doomed? NO. is it early in the recruiting process? YEP. Can they turn it around with a good season? YEP. Some these people need to be cool honey bunnies and chill out.
And look what it has invited on here. A bunch of “awesome” people whose glasses are never even close to half full
just because Esco is being real and not a sunshine pumper you’re calling him negative? Negative things in life happen, hate to break it to you, negative things are real.
It’s hilarious how you clowns are always the “realists” and need to call people sweet nicknames to make your tired argument have purpose
says the guy who just game me a “sweet” nickname.
Thanks for clarifying. I had no idea.
FCS is a realistic ‘ downsize’ option….
Think we could get in 6A and compete with Jenks?
hmmmmmmmmmmm……have to think about it .
many have noticed the same thing…..gonna have to win some important national TV games before HS guys take notice………..
hopefully the facilities makeover helps out as well. Looking at Oregon’s stuff is just sickening.
We’re also offering a lot more kids than in the past, as well. Offering more and more longer shots, will clearly result in more “misses”.
yes. its a widening trend……….
yes.
Stephen just a quick question. Is your icon really a picture of you? If so, you bear a striking resemblance to Brad Pitt.
not sure to say thanks or not !!! wouldn’t mind having some of his money for sure—–you can have Angelina.
…if Brad Pitt were to ___________
I cant even count the number of ways that I can fill in that blank lol
Have several discount root canals
There I got you started
Nah Im done Im probablythisclose to being repremanded as is.
I think the points been made though.
No, just ever offer is being spotlighted by boards and media. So, we hear about every commit, win or lose.
Recruiting is going great. Nothing but continued good news n the OU front.
Hi, how are you today?
How good is the TE from mustang I think Blake Williams I know he has health issues but he is starting to get some notice from school around the country
I will ask a friend of mine. His son plays TE with Blake Willams
If we don’t have the better talent then the coaching must improve to get more W’s
wow, recruiting has been rough. Never thought I’d see the day when TCU and Baylor are the bell cows of this conference. Goes to show what a difference a charismatic coach and winning can do. I have faith in Cooks but that’s about the only D coach I have faith in. One more year of this then we may be huge trouble.
Let’s not get carried away. I don’t know if Baylor or TCU has ever outrecruited OU, and this year is no different. We continue to have a much better rated class than either of them.
Now, let’s get back to beating them year in and year out on the field.
They’re actually doing it right now, IMO.
Are you joking?
Baylor & TCU remind me of Stanford & Oregon in the PAC. It was always USC & UCLA and for a while Washington. Things shifted, Stanford & Oregon became legit programs which compete year in year out for the crown. This makes the conference healthy. USC will come back up but not sure about UCLA. OU & UT will come back and it will be as tough as a conf as anyone out there.
OU will get their guys, Stoops and crew have never focused on July to do so. I will wait to see the visitors during the season and who emerges their sr year.
I can get behind that. regardless of stars and/or class ranking, they have definitely done a better job at finding talent than OU has lately. Could be evaluation, could be dev, who knows…?
If youre talking about past years youre right but if you’re referring to this year then both of them are majorly kicking our ass in recruiting so far.
“One more year of this then we may be huge trouble”
Really? Like cancel the program huge?
Some of you people let your agenda get the better of you
no agenda, just being real. we’ve already seen what kind of damage missing out on a class can be.
Yep. 2 yds and a made field goal from being 11-1 and not playing in the JV bowl
We would have to miss a bunch, because K State seems to be doing very well with a bunch of 1 star and 2 star players (TCU’s overall numbers are not much better). Way too much emphasis put on rankings. If you look back over the last 10-12 years, the skill position players at OU that were 5 star or highly touted 4 star did not pan out well (Peterson being the biggest exception). Heart, desire, work ethic, academics, coachability – so much more than just a star in front of your name goes into this. And, I agree, wanting to be a Sooner is more important than just wanting to be a college football player.
Its becoming painfully obvious that when we lost Monty we lost way way way more than a DL coach. Franky Im very concerned about our current coaches and their recruting ability ( with the exceptions of Bedenbaugh and Gundy ).
And this is coming from the eternal optimist.
Same sh**, different toilet. Blah blah blah I love OU, they really made me think a lot. But I’m committing to XYZ school.
Blah blah blah. I’ll believe it when I see a commitment. Until then i’m taking whatever these recruits say with a grain of salt.
Man following OU recruiting is real tough right now. Hopefully we get Whaley the RB, and that will help get this recruiting thing rolling.
It is ridiculously frustrating. At least the Baseball team currently has a top 10 recruiting class. :-/
Sounds like the staff did all they could for Youngquists visit. Can’t fault them for that. Its a tough sell coming off the season OU had last year. May have sounded like lip service from Youngquist but the kid was straight up and did not give a vague answer about Oregon being his top school.
I do however believe with the way we play this season, OU will put themselves back on the map because I expect the offense to be one the most explosive, if not the most explosive offense in the BIG 12
Next year will HAVE to be the year, and I agree that it very well could be. We cannot have this big of a lull in recruiting that carries over too long. But hopefully the new offense combined with the new facilities will give the recruits the level of bling they obviously desire.
I have to wonder if other teams point to the staff turnover as a negative recruiting tool. As much as these kids bond with coaches, it’s tough to sell them on a program if they get a seed planted that you won’t be there in 2-3 years…
I know this might not be doable, but I think it would be pretty cool and wonder what you all think. Ok so, at some entrance into the new facilities, have a panel of flatscreen tv’s, either outside the entrance, or right after you walk in that would be something like 10ft x 10ft. Then somehow have facial recognition software installed so when the player or coach is walking in it would show the player in their uniform along with their measurables and maybe a few quick highlight clips from big games. Then, when the recruits show up, add them into the database and when they’re walking in it can show them in an OU uniform and have some of their highlights plays on the screen for others to see. I’m in a dreaming mood this morning I guess lol.
It certainly wouldn’t be surprising to anyone that a season like last years hurt recruiting, would it? I still think we have a lot of talent and will be fine in the end. But I haven’t been actually embarrassed by OU football hardly ever in my life, and last year was flat out excruciatingly bad at times. And most of that was coaching. I remain an optimist and think we have plenty of talent to get a good season and surprise some folks as long as our coaches do their job. I, for one, wouldn’t bet a nickel on Tennessee beating us. And regardless, I’m a Sooner fan!
Recruiting is easy…just win.
I know that I am over-simplifying, but the teams that win on the field tend to win in recruiting. We have the ability to turn it around by beating the teams that are out-recruiting us. It is all within our control.
I think Texas A&M is evidence against this statement. Not to mention Texas. A&M hasn’t won a dang thing other than beating Bama in a regular season game and beating OU in a bowl game where the game simply got away from us and yet A&M is still pulling in ridiculous recruits.
There may be exceptions to every rule, but I think the winningest teams generally are able to recruit well. It certainly has worked for OU during their winningest years. The ones that don’t win generally have more of a problem…especially if they are not in a place with a strong in-state talent base.
Yeah that’s a good point. I don’t think A&M’s success will be sustained if they keep losing.
But A&M has the ESPN SEC hype machine behind them. And they are an SEC school located in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country.
Tejas is the flagship U in the same area.
Not attributes OU has going for it.
Texas A&M is “winning” on the field just by having the SEC logo on their uniforms. It’s a perfect storm for them to pull recruits with their conference affiliation and Texsa having some bad seasons.
I know that this has been said one hundred times over BUT. I went and watched the TCU game last night and early in that game so much went against OU it was crazy. Some awful penlaties that gave TCU first downs. All that to say OU did not look less talented than TCU. We were right in the thick of that game. The most glaring weaknesses in the game were communication between the DB’s, no true zone reads, and the lack of another WR with Shep. All of which I believe has been corrected this off season.
Lastly, it was crazy to watch that game and see Boykin be that GOOD. He played QB for 2 years and was nothing like he was last year. IF LR can get a QB to improve half as much as Boykin, and we find a true replacement for Philips it could be a really fun year.
Same with the Clemson game. It was like OU was destined to lose that game.
we lost that game after losing to OSU. We checked out
Better watch out. You’ll get a mobbed talking like that. Positive opinions are not allowed on this board.
Agreed. But, IMHO, the TCU game was symbolic of the whole season. Ever hear the term ‘snake-bit’? If you’re ‘snake-bit’, then every thing goes against you. Mixon, Shannon, DBG, Mayfield. Just not one break there. The highest scoring Sooner ever misses two field goals and has an extra point blocked in the narrow loss to KSU. We lost three games by what, seven points? You cataloged the things that happened with TCU. Sure, we folded with BU but all those things had demoralized the team. Then the first play from scrimmage and Clemson goes 65 yards.
Yeah, yeah, I know, good teams fight back in time of adversity. Sure, sometimes they do. But, we’re talking about a bunch of 20 year old kids. Sometimes they give up.
Agreed about the talent level at TCU and OU. I like that TCU team but think that they may be really over-hyped this year. If you look at the drubbing Baylor put on us the last two years and then saw how we really should have won that TCU game even with all those bad breaks you would think Baylor is head and shoulders above TCU. I actually bet we beat TCU this year at home.
Ya I agree. The other thing I believe this team has to do is find that killer instinct of no matter who they are playing they have to want to destroy that team. IF they try and get up for big games and survive the others it will be a long season. Also need leaders to bring this team together and desire to play for each other more than just themselves! If that can happen then this team shocks people. Not a natty but is a really solid season.
Same with bedlam. I re-watched that game again the other night. We almost picked off Rudolph like 5 or 6 times!!! Just some very very unlucky moments in that game. I’m pretty sure there was a situation earlier in the game where we elected to re punt and we pinned Tyreek down almost immediately. Not saying the decision was correct at the end of the game but it could have been partly motivated by having done it successfully earlier in the game.
I also watched the Baylor game again….I know I must have a thing for punishment..BUT what I discovered is that Baylor just simply took what we gave them, they took the cushion, they took the coverage, and they took our lack of identity. I understand all of this is a part of football, but my point is when I watched it, I didn’t see anything where Baylor just blew my hair back. The first few drives, we showed we can be a dominant team. We were up 2 scores and we were getting pressure on Baylor. We blitzed, we pressed, and we were unafraid. Then out of nowhere it was like a demon possessed the coaches and we started playing timid and scared. The gameplan that was working at first we just tossed out the window. I honestly don’t know that I have seen such terrible coaching in all of my football watching career, albeit it is not as long a career as some of you old farts, but as sickened as I was I saw athletes. I saw that we have the potential but we needed coaches to unlock that. I don’t know if LR is the answer, if I had to vote right now, I would say yes. same goes for Cooks, and Reynolds, ETC, even though I would love to have Montgomery back, But whatever it was with some of the old faces, I think they became basket cases. I think if Mike can listen to his coaches, and if LR can use weapons like he has everywhere else he has been, I think we could see a special year…..But now….having said all that, let us sit back and wait for the negative trolls to come with their pitchforks and torches calling me a sunshine pumping dweeb.
You sunshine pumping dweeb. (Totally agree with your assessment).
I know it may seem really slow, but to be fair, by this time last year OU only had 6 commits just like this year. Although 4 out of the 6 were 4 stars, but still. The year before OU had 9 by this time. So it’s not like OU is light years behind in recruiting, but it definitely could be a lot better.
I see a lot of stones being cast at the defensive coaches for losing out on recruits and I think it’s a little premature. I know that recruiting is vitally important to the future success of a program but so are the on field results. I am definitely not saying the staff should not be putting in the recruiting hours, but I would be more pleased to see them Introduce a revamped defensive system that is significantly more aggressive than what we witnessed last season. If we can get back to curb stomping opponents and pitching shutouts, the commitment flips will come our way. Early commitments will be easier to come by in the future if kids are salivating over the possibility of donning the Crimson and Cream. If we see the same results as last year, well then I will be throwing stones with the rest of you……..BOOMER!
Overall I am not mad about recruiting yet with the defensive staff. BUT I would like to see just one year where our LB coaches recruit a real LB. Deberry doesn’t count because he has not played and Monty recruited him!
Agreed. But I would like to see us be more aggressive in recruiting. It works for other top programs, and slow playing recruits seems to cost us more than it gains.
update added
Is it just me or is #50 the perfect LB number?
#44
I get that, but I like it when LBs wear in #s in the 50s
I was kindof thinking 19. Also the number of Caleb Kelly I might add.
#1 is the perfect football number—-as in OU is #1……….
At last we finally agree on something
Wow. Congrats on your 1st awesome post
Let’s hope the hulk can smash some dudes
Any 50’s is cool I think….except for 59 and 57…for some reason they look odd (no pun intended).
I’ve always liked 54 for a LB for some reason.
Always a bit partial to ‘double nickels’. Think McGinnis had requested the number ’50’ as not only his hs # but he has his own foundation…’50Nation’. Pretty cool.
50 and 44, thanks to Bosworth
For OU historical numbers, 50 will give Mr. McGinnis a LOT to live up to. If he can make his name come to mind with THAT number, he will be special. Good luck and give it all you’ve got – we’re rooting for you.
When will Austin Roberts enroll?
If things go as planned currently, later this month
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m_KELqw3GA
When I hear about a LB wearing 50, Dante is the first person who comes to mind!
107 no!!
Dline should be really good this year especially if they add Roberts
Kahlil Haughton playing safety and wearing #8… he’s got big shoes to fill in that number at that position.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=197&v=PxHBGUBHIiM
Donte Nicholson?
Are you asking me if I’m talking about Donte Nicholson or are you suggesting DN?
Is Quinn Mittermeier a Guard or Center?
Both I believe.
long time till NSD…That is all
Still no Dalton Wood..
Still listed on the roster, but he’s not on campus.
Interesting.. So, it appears they are truly giving him every chance to make it.. I hope, with all this time, the kid is able to make whatever decision is best for him..
if he did decide to come, what is the latest date they would take him before they move on
Final day to register for classes is Aug. 28th. My assumption is that academic deadline w/b the drop dead date (for lack of a better phrase).
or, the ‘sad, but we wish you well’ date
works for me 🙂
A few comments on 2016 recruiting:
1. OU under Stoops has employed a lower-pressure approach, which traditionally has caused our recruiting classes to fill slower than others. I think some of the reason is the next point below.
2. These kids haven’t played their senior year of HS yet. Many haven’t matured, and will have breakout seasons The teams that are already filled up at a position won’t be in as good for these “late bloomers.”
3. The coaches’ board probably looks quite a bit different then what TFB folks might think. They are more privy to numerous factors such grades, character, how long they’ve played football, quality of coaching, etc. Yes, there are a few obvious kids like Kelly and Whaley that we know the coaches want bad, but us readers probably look at stars a lot more than the coaches do.
4. Yes, last year was awful. But I think we are correlating what happened last year too much with what’s going on with recruiting. Some of this may just be bad luck. Or some of our “misses” may actually be a case of OU backing off of a kid for one reason or another.
5. By all appearances, 2015 was an excellent class. Even if all of our worst fears are true, and 2016 is a weak class, it may not spell the end of OU football. But, yeah, the slide can’t continue without long-term impact.
6. By my calculation, it is 198 days to NSD.
7. I choose not to panic.
8. I hate the off-season.
9. Bacon is not beef. But love them both.
Really good post. Hard for me to panic and get all sweaty in July over something that occurs in February. Not to mention that to make a successful recruiting season the results generally hang on two or three players when it’s all said and done.
I’m not panicking, but I am sweaty… it is July in the south after all haha
Yeah, it topped 100 over here on the weekend. But I hate Winter so much that I refuse to gripe about the heat in Summer.
I’m from Dallas and grew up playing ice hockey. I absolutely loved the sport b/c no matter how hot it is outside, it’s always cold in the rink
Fairview/Ringwood. Hotter than Death Valley in the Summer and Rocky Mountain type Winters with some humidity thrown in for misery.
They make turkey bacon…why not beef bacon? hmm….lol

Yum!
Your #9 was upvote worthy on its own. Porkow makes a visit to the boards for the 2nd straight week.
I smoked bacon strips on Sunday and then fried them – all to crumble and put in my smoked, bbq beans (another 3 hours in the smoker). Just keeping the bacon talk going…and daydreaming about tailgate food.
The sky is falling fans are going against the usual OU trend in recruiting. Thus, their position has little merit.
just great!
On the online roster they have dalton wood a number, he’s not there is he?
He is on the roster. He is not on campus.
Nothing new on Dalton’s status?
there is not
Did bowlsby really say that they are going to go to one contact practice per week? If that’s the case can we start a petition to remove this guy?
No, he said 2 contact practices per week. Said it would not affect anything as every coach said they don’t exceed that number anyway. Said NFL has a policy of only 11 contact practices for their entire season.
But I thought it was worded that one of those 2 contact days, was the game itself.

Would be nice if Kruger could get Pritchard back in the fold. I’m not counting on it though.
I’m just assuming this commit tells you pretty much what you need to know about the chances of that happening.
I’m not so sure. I think we were after both. Plenty of scholarships to fill, and both can play the 1/2 spots. That said, I don’t think it’s likely to get Pritchard back in the fold, though I hope I’m wrong.
Pritchard is an OU legacy with family near Norman. We still have a real good chance.
Not enough room in the class? They play different positions.
Not sure why anyone would feel this way. First of all, they play different positions. Secondly, Payton’s dad gave a local interview and said that OU was still very much in the picture. He said that Payton wanted to stay committed to OU, but take some recruiting visits, and parents said that’s not how it works. If you want to take visits, you call Coach Kruger and tell him that you are re-opening your recruitment before visiting anyone else. Very stand-up parenting IMO.
I think this new commitment probably ends the likelihood of Pritchard returning….although I think that was unlikely anyway. Typically a player who drops out after being committed for a long time like PP isn’t coming back.
What happened to Austin Roberts, isn’t he supposed to be on the team this year
Supposed to arrive later this month, barring any complications.
Awesome, thanks
I read earlier on Twitter that the plan is for the 26th to be the day we may find out.
Pretty sure he’s taking 2 classes this month
Looking at the roster, OU already has the max of 115 players: 82 scholly and 33 walkons. Normally the numbers are 85 and 30.
Courntey Garnett still listed as being #50, even though Arthur McGinnis was given the number.
Two walkons QBs. We already heard about Connor McGinnis, but also Reece Clark.

orange is one ugly color
Especially that one…oSu & Texas appear to be seeking the ugliest shades of orange possible.
Texas wins the ugly battle. At least OSU looks appropriate on halloween
and in prison
Why does that just seem sooo appropriate?
Looks kind of awkward for these poor guys. Maybe they just googled their win/loss record and wondered what they thinking- or saw themselves in ORANGE, LOL!
Looks like OU just got a hoops commit
4* SG Kameron McGusty(95 rating on 247)
updates are a wonderful thing 😉
lol i havent refreshed the page…my apologies
all good
How long has it been since the basketball team out recruited the football team? freaking sigh…
I remember Sampsons last class was very highly rated before falling apart when he left…Scotty Reynolds and Damion James were part of that class.
Yeah, that class brings tears to my eyes to this day.
Yep, NC caliber team most likely
NC might be a bit of a stretch, especially given Sampson’s history in the tournament, but it could’ve been a team that went far in the tournament.
I didnt say they wouldve won it, but they wouldve been good enough to
And you wonder why people think you’re a troll. Anybody says anything that can even be construed as positive and you can’t stand it. National championship caliber doesn’t infer national championship guarantee. I believe it means they could possibly have a shot at it
Man, what a gut punch that was.
I was thinking late 80’s, tubbs and gibbs era..
Can McGusty bring #3 with him… looked like a heck of PG in that video.
Dalton is not on that list of freshmen jersey numbers. Guess he is still in the question mark column.
Actually b/c you said that I just went back to check again and now, a couple hours later, he has been assigned a number, fwiw. Added him to the list in the post above.
That basketball pickup is amazing. BOOM!
Any news on Antoine Stephens?
Just heard from an Aggie fan that Baylor is giving out $4800 a semester for a stipend. Anybody know what OU is giving out and if this is affecting recruiting at all?
Looks like Texas is still calling the shots in Big XII. Bowlsby didn’t leave Stanford to work for anybody else.

let’s see, the comment count is at 206………..
It’s gonna get ugly. Twitter will be epic
Now well over 300………
That’s what happens when you slow play. You get busted.
I’m gonna have to disagree with “slow play.” Judging by his junior film…oh wait he’s not a junior yet?
19 other schools got to our backyard before we did. Just sayin
Yep. Your reasoning has to be it. Just has to be. Haha. Gimme a freaking break. Somebody change the record, it’s stuck
19 other schools offered hahahaha. j/k boomersooner
Hahaha. Nice
You’re right but usually OU can afford to take their time and at LB they’ve been careful the last several years. So I don’t think anyone should have expected us to be the first big offer. Now we’ll have to see if OU can catch up they’ve got about 30 months before the kid signs.
Or its as simple as the coaches don’t like him as much as you do
Best Answer I think I have every read on here..
Thanks but now we’ll hear how bad our coaches are and we fired the wrong guys and uab would beat us and whatever else the sheep want to believe
It’s ok.. If they didn’t I would think they didn’t even care anymore.. Lol
They liked him enough to offer
Ok. Some people sound like they might off themselves if we don’t get him. Seems like a bit of a reach. If the coaches wanna see some more games, y’all ain’t gonna change their minds
How was it slow playing when the kid hasn’t even played his junior year? They had been talking to him and was telling him that they wanted to watch some of his junior games before offering.
Any ideas on exactly how we lost Draper to the Pukes?
Facilities? That’s the only reason I can think of other than Kim Tish.
No way Draper committed to OSU. I thought he was a lock for Venables, or Sabin, or Jimbo Fisher, or…
If we could get the other lb I would be happy
I call bull on him being an OU fan growing up!
Am I too late for the riot? Is the Kish of Death confirmed?
not the Kish of Death. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Well, honestly OSUs defense has looked more consistent. Gundy even brought 3 defensive players to media day. None of these kids instate or not owe OU anything…. ! Keep recruiting him I you think he can help or move on.
This makes me think of the poster earlier who mentioned about no longer are we coming up empty to the top programs, but now we are losing our luster against the mid-level programs.
Yeah, he is a 2017 graduate, and still a far ways off from signing LOI but still….

Its quite alright if Levi wants to be on the losing side though out his college career, its his choice. Hope he doesn’t look back and rue the missed opportunity. Wish him well.
They beat us in Norman last year…
I would have fired stoops if he didn’t have a title under his belt. That re-punt was the worst call ever
Well until Pete Carroll one up’d him in the super bowl
Hated both teams, but that call made me so happy. I don’t want Carroll to succeed, on the other hand, he would be my first choice when Bob is done.
I would pass on Carroll he’s like 15 years older than stoops so I don’t know that he’s gonna have a long run in him if he decides to coach college again. He doesn’t strike me as the type that’s going to coach past 70 and I want to say he’s like 66 or 67
True but the guy is pretty good in front of the camera and is pretty charismatic. Also, he’s made a couple trips to the Super Bowl to boast about.
I would take Switzer over Carroll.
I can agree to that.
Carroll 63 btw so not as old as I thought.
Must be the pearly white hair.
I don’t wanna cheat to win
Carroll?
Surely you jest.
Agree, worst call ever. But, that game was just a mind-numbing experience once Perine went down.
As soon as perine went down you knew it was over and I think we had a 10 or 14 point lead. Horrible
To be honest, I think that was the best thing that happened to Bob and to the FB program. If we had sneaked by, dono if we get obliterated, as with Clemson, lose a close bowl game, and we lose one bad game against BU and it would have been the usual excuses. This loss made a difference, we lost, faced Clemson, got obliterated and it snowballed into the firing of JH and JN.
Also, from the point of view of Bob, it made him take notice, and I really feel it will make a difference this year. Can’t wait.
Didn’t I say through-out HIS career? 😉
Alright, alright…I’ll give you that!
Who would commit to a lifetime of misery?
When will you guys realize it’s time for a change? This is not the same hungry staff from the early 2000’s. Bob it’s been great what you have done but time to move on. Since our decline programs like BAYLOR and TCU have caught up. It’s all in the coaching and Bob doesn’t have it anymore!! Winning, recruiting pedigree have all taken a big hit over the last several years. Wake up pumpers!!
Oh, here we go again…
Ok, so you can honestly say you’re happy with what’s been going on?
You were fine until your last sentence. You want to troll people, go back to the Scout board. That type of s#$% will not be tolerated here.
I’m not trolling. It’s the truth. You can write your garbage articles about the same thing only in a different tone but I’m a troll. Ok. Pot calling kettle black

I was going to say the same thing
Stuff a sock in it
I see no evidence that either Baylor or TCU have offered Levi. Perhaps they have. However, he committed to OSU. Thus, what’s your point about Baylor and TCU?
I have a stick and I’m going to poke you with it.
I feel like Teddy Roosevelt would be proud
That is what Tennessee said about Fulmer and last I checked they haven’t really bounced back? Last years class I thought was a very solid class. Just saying.
Soooooo not even concerned not even a smidge of a speck about Draper.
It’s July 2015. He’s a 2017 commit. YEARS yet to happen.
it’s only 2015, crap.
I’m concerned there are several 4th grade in state studs at my son’s school wearing Alabama apparel.
have they already been offered that way their feelings wont be hurt that their so called favorite school hasn’t been in touch
I’d be more concerned if they got an Auburn tattoo…then had to change it…
And some sound like little girls who missed out on Bieber tickets
Ain’t no lie.
Ban hammer time that didn’t take long.
My apologies OU Family…But when did I miss the Dalton Wood update? For him to be on the online roster means he’s back or campus or just holding his spot until he gets his personal stuff together? Either way, thanks to whoever answers my questions. BOOMER!!!
Just holding a spot.
Thanks Stephen!
Unfortunately, at this point it really doesn’t mean anything other than what Stephen said below. He’s still not on campus, but they are holding a spot for him should that change.
Thanks Jordan!
SOONER!!!
2017 is very early but WTF!
I know he was just offered recently but had Draper even ever visited OU?
Oh well, I hope Kameron McGusty can play LB too.
Yes
ok thats sad
I wonder how this kid is celebrating the Draper commitment……………

KISHED
“We have bigger targets.”
I tell all of my girlfriends “Don’t call me, I’ll call you” all the time. Works.
I could go for a turkey leg
I thought it was Robert Allen
I think he’s still got a couple hundred pounds on that kid
oh jeez. so you saying he has a mini me
is that not a girl? I thought it was a girl…
really can’t tell with cowpukes
The choreography is majestic, sublime. Perfect tempo and time signature. The head nod and eye contact with this pork chop turkey leg thing conveys a sense of emotional oneness.
He probably committed at gun point.
Boy I tell you what, look away for five minutes and two stories break. Somebody actually wants to wear that orange and we get a Ban Hammer. How is anybody supposed to get any work done around here.
I know this is hard for many OU fans (me included) to accept, but the Tulsa area is not as pro-OU as the OKC area. OSU has a very firm reach here. I am not surprised that Draper went to little brother but I also would not be surprised at all if he decommits between now and Feb 2017. OU has to prove itself on D before the big names will be willing to commit and a solid showing on D with the new coaches may change a few minds.
Pretty sure I read on here that his bathroom and bedroom walls are covered in OU paraphernalia. Don’t see any way to read this but as a slap in the face.
I don’t disagree at all. This is a big miss by OU if he doesn’t rethink things. It has the potential to be the biggest miss of the 2017 class. I was just stating that outside pressure to attend OSU could be greater here than a kid from Edmond or MWC. That outside pressence may have gained creedence with so many other schools offering before OU.
I think it might be a bit premature to say this is a miss, much less the biggest miss. It’s not Mike Singletary
I don’t think he is even as good as DeBerry, but he is likely going to be the biggest in-state prospect next season and plays a position that has been lacking in recent seasons (although I do think it is already heading in the right direction). I think they will be in on better or equal players, but top flight in-state guys that grew up OU fans are big misses.
True but what if he’s hit his ceiling? What if it turns out he stinks? I agree, you watch film til you’re convinced whether it’s on this kids watch or not
If you trust recruiting services (which I think of as a loose guide, at best) then, as of yet, Draper is a long ways from DeBerry. DeBerry was a 5 star, ranked 28th nationally, irregardless of position. Draper is 4 star, 84th nationally.
He’s a good prospect. He’s probably a great kid. But based on the things we heard about how upset he was because OU was “late” in offering, tells me he’s reading his “press clippings”.
Heck, we wouldn’t have been late offering, if we’d waited until after his junior season.
If Mikey and Kish want him, they’ll keep recruiting him, and who knows.
And if the “late” offer still bugs him, and he won’t have anything to do with us because of it, so be it. I’m a proponent of recruiting Oklahoma kids. But IMO, we did our due diligence and offered. And his in his ego driven perception, we were too late, so screw OU. Hey, that’s ok, if that’s how he wants to perceive things.
If he truly love OU, and ends up in Stillwater, it may bug him for the rest of his life. But perhaps he didn’t love OU as much as he loves the attention of the recruitniks and such.
We want kids that want to be here. No inference as to his ability, or quality of character. Just a statement of position.
IMO, we’ll see substantial improvement in the D and team as a whole this year. And we’ll see a lot of effect on our 2016 and 2017 class as a result. And as a result, we’ll have interest from a lot of LB’s who are similar in potential. And if he doesn’t want to come, and they do, then we’ll gladly take those who want to be Sooners, and wish him best at OSU, or wherever.
Maybe but OSU only offered him 22 days earlier than OU.
K noted on twitter that an early relationship with Coach Spencer at OSU played a critical role in the commitment…so I’m just going to say the our recruiting techniques are falling out of date, in my opinion.
I think that Mike Stoops is out of date…
His defense has no bite, and from what I saw last season, it has no bark either
Ooh sorry. You missed em. 3 days ago. Went in 4 mins….ok now you know I’m lying
Wooooooow…….Levi punks the OU staff.
Or himself!
Getting worked in recruiting! Ou can’t even secure the instate kids anymore;(
He’s like 15 years old! He’s probably uncertain as to whether or not to shave each day. Give him time.
Is it that obvious? 600 for the pair. They’re nosebleeds but you couldn’t ask for a better nosebleed….wait I mean
So I just get back from lunch and see the Draper news and think “Wow this board is going to explode”……lol too late.
I tried to get here to post, but was knocked unconscious by pieces of the falling sky. I hope no one else was injured.
I am not bothered too much by Draper committing to OSU would have I have liked OU to get his commitment yes is it the end of the OU football program probably not. But I would like to see the attitude change on the coaches recruiting techniques. The days of telling a kid, “we are going to win with you or without you” are over !!
Great post.
Yes that should be the attitude. I mean honestly to kids, OUs program is in a state of flux. That’s just plain and simple. WIN and WIN BIG = Tides will turn.
If this trend continues we will have to start offering grade school or middle school kids 10-15 years from now. kids used to not here from schools until their junior or senior year. now they are getting their feelings hurt if you don’t offer by their sophomore or freshman year in high school. What happens when that is not early enough anymore when kids feel like that is old news and the first few teams are offering even earlier so they can get ahead in recruiting. Why don’t we give these kids a break and have rules that if you have any contact whatsoever before their junior year there will b severe penalties. This is getting ridiculous.
To be fair, his signing day is around a year and a half away. He became an overnight sensation and teams took advantage of it. This isn’t the case with a majority of players.
didn’t florida st. just offer an 8th grader a couple months ago and there are several 2018 offers out there that were freshman this year ou has even offered a few.
I have no knowledge of that but there are several players that still don’t have offers that will earn them during their junior and senior year. Usually early offers are for standouts that have proven level of play.
Edit: And Florida State is just weird.
I agree with the fact that offering and commits before the junior year is ridiculous. Kids have way too much development and growing to do in that time period.
update added
You mean he didn’t commit to OSU as well…? We can still haz football?
Let’s just imagine what would happen on here if he commits.
Jordan, how would you grade Anthony Hines? I have not watched much film on him, nor have I looked at any rankings. Just from a how does he look standpoint, what do you think?
Highly rated and coveted for a reason. Would be an excellent addition.
Awesome to hear! Thank you for the update, Stephen! Darn work
Haha no problem, just sitting in the physical therapy waiting room so this passes the time nicely
didn’t know who he was……geez, has over 70 offers so far
Okay. I just want to make sure I have my priorities right. 82 weeks before this young man can sign, so I should have a fit – check.
TWO full football seasons before his class signing, but why actually watch football if we are not in the Mac Brown memorial trophy race for top recruiting class – check.
If I fail to worry endlessly over this 2017 recruitment, may I still root for my Sooners?
Thanks.
No you cannot. Sorry man, you might as well grab some burnt orange
GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!
Not ever! Just like Boz, that stuff makes me puke.

“Some scoop take it for what it is worth. I just made some calls, and who I talked to said it is the gospel. 1) He felt OSU facilities were the top overall ALL of his visits. 2) He is a GREAT student, and GREAT kid, and he wanted the process over. 3) he had a major influence that was pushing him to OSU 4) The kicker, Levi went and visited OU and Mike Stoops left him with a “we will keep evaluating you” and Levi got back and tweeted that he was not happy he was not offered or something to that nature. Mike called him after reading the tweet and said maybe you misunderstood me and he did offer. After the call it left a bad taste in his mouth, and he knew that was not true. TAKE THAT FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH…”
Me not care.
Keep evaluating a kid who is not even in his Junior year of high school? Yes, that would be a reasonable decision to make.
Might be a great kid and great player. I wish him well. But who really freaking cares. He’s starting to sound like some people here. Hell hath no fury like some people scorned
Don’t blame Mike at all. Wait til your Junior film comes out. If he his butt hurt over something so small then he deserves to wear convict orange. Kids now days.
Exactly. I would have been socked in the mouth if I cried every time I didn’t get my way
See what you’re saying but why not offer the in-state kid who should be a sure thing and who’s already rated very highly and holds 20+ offers before he’s played a down as a junior? It’s not binding until he signs so what’s the harm? I think this was buffoonery on Mike’s part.
Offers ARE binding with Bob Stoops. He is not Nick Saban.
I mean legally.
We did offer him.
Just not soon enough, per his football star view of the world. It would seem he perceives himself as a rock star.
We offered him early summer after his sophomore year. How much earlier should we have offered him?
No idea. You’d think since he’s in state, we might do it before 20 other schools had done so though?
There are a lot of kids that have 20+offers and never turn into anything but a bench player. I believe we had a 5 star DE from keller ridge a few years back that turn out to be a dud. so you never know how a kid will turn out. so be patient and let it play out.
No way I’d ever lift these. I mean, like, you know, they’re not even nice.
Also not true.
Are you guys gonna do a write up and give us your background info and why you think we missed?
Why? Do you need more ammo for your anti-Mike agenda?
I don’t need more ammo. I have three seasons of reference material already.
Fair enough. Just wondering why you felt the need for them to weigh in at this late stage?
Because its something big to talk about during a slow time and it would be within their normal tendencies to do so?
Fair enough.
Interesting posts from LT:
This one from BoomerBill12
I work for Warren CAT in Tulsa, OK. Yesterday an older guy comes in to rent a machine, so as I’m talking to him while doing the paperwork, one of my co workers walks by who is about 6’5″ and 240 and this guy says “God d***! That’s a big dude, he looks like my grandson! He’s got offers from everywhere for football.” He starts talking about auburn offering and FSU and all these schools and I ask for his grand sons name and he says Levi Draper. I say how OU finally offered and he precedes to tell me about a recent visit between Mike Stoops and Kish with Levi.
He tells me Mike has no personality, and basically Kish is a jackass. (Which we all knew) He said Mike drives up in his red Escalade and to quote him “tries to swing his big d**k around like he’s hot s**t.” So anyway, looks like the relationship is off to a rocky start, Grandpa asks Mike if they are going to offer Levi, grandpa tells Mike that Auburn told him they didn’t even need to watch film on him and gave him the offer. Mike replies with “well I’m going to be in Destin next week, and I’ll think about it while I’m there. We’ll be in touch when I get back.” Apparently Bob was on vacation and comes back, and asks how the visit/workout went with Levi and Mike tells him he’s the real deal, Bob asks if he offered and Mike says no. From what Grandpa told me Bob ripped Mikes a**, and then calls Levi and offers Levi himself over the phone. He told me in the last week Bob has called Levi four times and talked a long time each time, and that Bob is really taking over the recruiting of Levi and building a solid relationship with him. As grandpa is leaving, he turns back to me and says “between you and I, I think he’s headed to Norman.” Talking about Levi of course.
He might still end up in Norman. It’s not Signing Day yet.
I’ve heard plenty about Kish on this board, but I’ve never heard that he’s a jackass . . . After all, McGinnis seemed to buy what he’s selling.
I guess it depends on how bad your feewings got hurt as to how you would describe someone. For example, the people who invested every inch of their being into wins and losses are wanting the whole staff drawn and quartered by now
Fair enough. Still, for whatever reason, the Draper thing feels more like it’s supposed to hurt OU than help himself. Bama and Clemson are much better offers, and if he grew up an OU fan, I have a hard time believing this OSU commit is solid.
I agree. He seems hurt. I don’t know him or the situation at all but my response to him would be suck it up. You didn’t get offered on your timeline. So what? If you wanna be here, be here. If you don’t, you won’t. Simple
Edit : and I meant “one’s” feewings not “your”
True, everything I’ve ever heard a recruit say about him is that he is a great guy and they love visiting with him. Something’s not adding up with this story about the grandpa.
now, this, is a recruiting story
We have ourselves a random person recruiting story duel:
Did Mike call back and say “You misunderstood me” then offered?
Or was it Bob that called back and offered?
Yep. Looks like they’re saying Mike, perhaps, fibbed about what he told Levi after Levi attended a visit at OU and the visit to see Levi by Mike came later at which time he STILL didn’t offer Levi. I’m not sure either.
Everybody on 3 chant it……
Yo Heave Ho, Mike Stoops has got to go
Yo Heave Ho, Mike Stoops has got to go
This is not true at all man..
Shall I delete?
Pretty interesting story and seemed like it could have been credible up until I got to the “ass ripping” part. I fully believe Bob could rip Mike a new one, but I just don’t think he would tell a fifteen year old kid that is what transpired. Nor do I think Bob would have invited grandpa down to Norman to be a witness to said ass ripping.
Sky may not be falling, but this is still pretty disheartening, to me at least.
Pre Commitment: “Why hasnt OU offered him WTF fire the coaches!”
Post Commitment: “Meh…he’s aight…didn’t want him anyway..”

Eh, many are saying, “It’s a long time before signing day. Relax.” That’s different than “We don’t want him, he’s not that good.”
Who the heck said anything remotely like that?!?!?!?!? Talk about spin doctoring. What’s your agenda?

Pretty sure it was stated on here long before the madness that the Draper kid was from an Ok state family.
Nope. OU family all the way is what I’ve read.
So he commits to OSU just to prove a point?
No idea. I don’t know the kid. All I know about him is it was his dream to play for OU and he’s a huge OU fan. Recruiting doesn’t get any easier than that.
Sounds like he is just mad, its a long time til NSD. If he’s a big OU fan then he will get over it and make the switch
if it was really his dream he would have committed to OU
His parents are die-hard OU fans. He has family members that are OU, OSU and Arky fans..
Ah. Thought I read that his mom was the ‘orange’ black sheep of the family. Every Sooner family has one.
then he is really not an OU fan. Or he only liked them because his parents did not because he really did. the reason I say that because as a die hard fan of a team the minute they offered you would commit just like Roberson did. wouldn’t they? the rest of the offers wouldn’t matter once you got your dream offer of the place you were a fan of.
Starting to miss to jerry Montgomery a little.

Well if that’s not a hint…hope they spread the word.
He’s probably reading the sky is falling on OU message boards as we speak
He must not have gotten the memo..
Michigan fan is trying to keep up with OU…neck and neck in favorites and retweets of Calebs tweets.
Maybe Hines might commit to OU????????
I would not be upset if he did!
This is just a strange situation, IMO. Draper has no real offers, so he goes on an offer-seeking summer tour gaining offers from many of the top schools in the country, only to turn around a few week later and commit to his childhood favorites in-state rival. I think this is just his way of sticking it to OU at this point in time. PREDICTION: Draper will commit and de-commit several times between now and NSD 2017. He will long for the spotlight and attention that uncommitted athletes get. Not to mention the official visits that a committed athlete gives up. Where he ends up, who knows. When Brandon said his family was “mad” at OU for not offering him yet, I had an uncomfortable feeling about the kid and his family. Felt like this was an attention grab and Brandon was feeding their desire for attention. He may very well end up at OSU, but I strongly feel that this commitment is just his first of several.
“Felt like this was an attention grab and Brandon was feeding their desire for attention.”
Nothing could be farther from the truth, but far be it from me to stop a conspiracy theory.
Lol!!
Are we a touch defensive Jordan?
I didn’t see this reference from BoomerDave as implying anything sinister on Brandon’s or TFB’s part. Simply suggesting that the interest in “his story”, by Brandon, was feeding the Draper’s need for attention.
Reading is fundamental.
I read fine. Do you?
Show me where he implied anything sinister on Brandon’s part?
If you can, that is.
I know you are loathe to offer any specifics, lest you lose flexibility to move your argument.
He can’t because it wasn’t there. Any chance to get a shot in, they both take it. Pretty weak, but I’m totally used to it by now.
http://i.imgur.com/6ozQAyT.gif
Wow!! How old are you, Jordan? Because you sure act like a little child!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTNjo8e1374
Sinister is your word, not mine.
I’m not sure why directly quoting something wasn’t enough of a reference for you, but I guess I’ll try again.
BoomerDave wasn’t even implying, he directly stated his opinion was that the Drapers were trying to seek attention and Brandon was helping them do that.
I know for a fact that isn’t the case, but why would you listen to someone privy to the details of how things actually are rather than someone who doesn’t really know what they’re talking about?
Believe me, or don’t. I couldn’t care less.
He said Brandon was feeding their need for attention. The implication was that it was not premeditated, but rather inadvertent.
No suggestion of conspiracy.
He NEVER said that there was a conscious effort on Brandon’s part to help the Draper’s seek attention.
Thanks, though, for the specific reference you were drawing upon.
I, and many others, I suggest, interpreted it differently.
Jordan and Brandon are ALWAYS a bit touchy.
I didn’t get that from Draper and his family either. I did, however, get a sense that they were put off by the late offer. I really didn’t see Draper ending up at OU, but I wouldn’t ever blame Levi for not choosing OU after the way they slow played him.
they offered him at the end of his sophomore year how is that slow playing him that is earlier than a majority of the kids getting offered by OU
He was slow played in comparison to the other offers he received.
we offered him right around the same time he was getting the other major offers
I’m not going to argue with you. There seems to be plenty here that want to do just that. Go play with them.
isn’t this sight for open discussion I thought that is what it is for and getting information about our favorite team. I don’t know what you mean by GO PLAY WITH THEM but I was just explaining that we didn’t slow play him compared to other players.
Last minute switch to OU
No matter how convinced or enamored my son would be for a program, no way I allow him to commit (even a non-binding verbal one) at such a young age.
Seems to me like “attention” is something they’ve been receiving in spades but okay.
Wow. You keep wearing that tin foil hat if yours.
Classy, Brandon, classy!! What is a “tin foil hat if yours”? Lol! So Brandon, in your mind, is the recruiting of Levi Draper over? Do you predict here on July 20, 2015 that his commitment to the Cowboys will stick throughout the process? Has he and his family completely shut it down? Would love to hear your answers.
BTW, Dave, just as I think that Brandon and Jordan were a bit sensitive, so are you.
I don’t think you were taking shots at Brandon or TFB.
And if I’m interpreting that correctly, perhaps a response of “sorry if my phrasing made you think I was suggesting wrongdoing or conspiracy of any kind. It was not my intention”.
MGB, I was simply making the point that, why take all of those high-profile trips and pick up all of those high-profile offers, and tell Brandon how much you loved everyone of them, and see Brandon post on here and re-tweet everything that Draper said about each of his visits, only to have him turn around and commit out of thin air to OSU who is the “enemy” of his favorite team growing up. No shot was taken at anyone, except perhaps Draper, who I predicted would eventually de-commit when he completely dropped out of the spotlight. Brandon can’t deny that he provided a ton of publicity to the Drapers and ultimately to us fans. Why or how that turned into a negative post about Brandon is beyond me, but whatever.
Hey Brandon. I love your contributions here. And I was totally one of the posters who was bitching about Mikey taking his time evaluating/offering Draper. Why? Because of the confluence of your opinions, K’s and the film you provided, and such.
But I think you’re misreading what BoomerDave was saying. I interpreted his comment as that in your performing your valuable service to us TFB readers, you were inadvertently feeding the Draper family’s addiction to attention.
Any way, that’s my read. Keep up the great work.
My read as well
They don’t have an addiction for attention. I’m sorry if I came off rude, but what was the purpose of his comment?
Seems he perceived their behaviour as attention seeking. And he thought that your interviews unintentionally fed their “addiction.”
And, I’m sure he’s a great kid. And comes from a great family. You have spoken to them, not any of us. So again, as you and Jordan are seemingly prone to doing, don’t take this the wrong way, but….
I find his and his family’s reactions to an offer received at the end of his sophomore year, as being over the top. I don’t know how you want to characterize it. But an offer in June after his sophomore year, in a realistic world, is not a late offer. Yet by all reports, yours and others, he and his dad were pissed, offended, felt disrespected. That’s over the top, in my view.
So BoomerDave chose to characterize it as attention seeking. You can label it how you wish. It is, however, unusual, in my estimation.
Fair enough, but I think they were more upset that the offer came and, to them, felt forced because of the huge offers around the country. That is probably not the case with OU, but that’s how it was perceived by most, not just the Draper’s
I guess Caleb Kelly saw the Draper news and decided to cheer us up.
He tweet something?
There’s a pic. Just refresh.
SWEET…………….Kelly let’s get it!
Kinda tweeted about everyone else, too. (frowny face)
OSU’s recruiting slogan:
“We’ll lose with you or we’ll lose without you”
How can any recruit in his right mind pass that up?
HAHA…..that’s funny!
There amount of crying on this site is getting sickening smh
Amen
I live in Collinsville and am close to some families that are heavy into the football program here. All I’ve heard is that Levi is a great kid, solid family. One senior fb player that I know works out with Draper. Says he is just stupid strong and athletic. Draper’s dad runs a gym up here that they work out at. I can tell you that this community predominantly supports OSU. So that may be a strong influence.
Don’t most rural communities in OK lean OSU? Always seemed that way to me.
Im up here in NYC. Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx are all OU but Brookyn is a bit of an OSU lean. Staten Island can go either way.
Out here in AZ it’s Scottsdale and Phoenix. If you see an OSU fan somewhere, they’re on vacation. And they drove……….all the way here.
They allow OSU fans to have driving licenses now?
Nahh. He means on their tractors!
It’s a hardship license…(this is probably not funny to anyone but me, but it used to be a running joke with farm kids when I was in HS all those years ago)
I’ll allow it.
That’s how I see things. Kinda makes sense if you ask me. Most of the small towns are built on aggie type of lifestyle.
Always got a kick of going into those rural towns and hearing what those folks thought of OU and it’s fan. Completely aligns with what you read on their Orange (7-6) Power forum.
Like that basketball commit; man, coach Kruger can reel em in! And I know this has been said already but I’ll repeat anyway: losing out on junior LB draper is not the end of days. I think the OU coaches have recruited incredibly well in 2014 and 2015 and they’ll probably pull off another one this year, just not at the pace that we fans would like. Fall camp in only a couple weeks!!
I just wonder when the fans who go crazy over what a recruit does, will ever learn to just step away from the computer or phone or tablet. And just leave their desire for a kid to choose their school out of the discussion. It makes the whole school and all the fans look bad when they make accusations or comments about a kids character.
Hey…….the pitchfork kids drive traffic. We should give them “space to destroy”.
You should run for OU message board mayor….
Who says I’m not?
Sorry your honor. My bad!
I encourage all of my fellow Sooners to build each other up rather than tear each other down. Remember there are way more important things in life than football and be mindful of what you say because you never know what other people are going through. I hope everyone has a blessed day. BOOMER!
Way too logical
Way too logical
Curtis Lofton and his family were diehard OSU fans. BV reeled him in tho because he did not slow play him and we had an above average D. Difference today is we have Kish and a below average D. Let OSU have the kid. We will get kids like Kelly and possibly Hines. We have a bright future with Deberry and McGinnis.
Kish wasn’t his recruiter. Mike was.
Even worse then that our DC slow played him. BV was a great recruiter. I miss having a LB coach like him
If we roll back the clock and review comments made about Venables, then it will show that people didn’t think he was a good recruiter. He missed on a lot of people, too.
People had some real issues with him (err, OU) losing Arthur Brown and bringing in players who never “made it” (e.g., Daniel Tabon, Chris Patterson, Mike Balogun, Brandon Crow, Londell Taylor, JR Bryant, shall I continue?).
It happens to everyone and it will again.
Venables’ lack of LB depth was the weakest link on the ’08 defense. When Ryan Reynolds went down in the Texsa game S Nic Harris took his place. They finally had enough trust to play R-Fr Box and he later got hurt, while R-Fr Travis Lewis was at the other ILB spot.
Not making the necessary changes on the defensive coaching staff due to family matters is the gift that keeps giving. (and taking)
Opinions vary
Maybe you will still be a fan when that gift is realized…either way enjoy the ride…STOOPS DYNASTY…OU all time winningest coach
Wrong Stoops…I have few problems with Bob other than the fact that he wont move Mike and in turn Kish off to the farm. And yes…I will be a fan.
Apparently a title every year is the only way some will be happy. If they can even be happy
I have certainly not stated that nor would that be a realistic scenario. You are sensationalizing an individuals opinion, which is fact is shared my many, that the DC and LB’r coach in particular are out of touch with the recruiting game and therefore reflect poorly on the head coach and entire program. If you are happy with the job Mike and Kish have done then you don’t share the same opinion. Just because you don’t agree with someone’s opinion doesnt mean you have to take it to the polar opposite extreme.
Some people can never remove their crimson glasses enough to realize, yes in fact there are some glaring issues in the program right now, but by all means I wouldn’t cast judgement on you and make a blanket statement.
The reason I do that is simply because you people always and I do mean always say things like “crimson glasses” and “drinking koolaid” among other “toocoolforschoolisms”. Point being, you and none of your point of view sharers, are in meetings. None of you are on recruiting trips. Therefore none of you know what the hell you’re talking about. But you always, and I do mean always, run your mouth about this coach or that. So you DO cast judgment therefore deserve judgment cast upon you
Don’t have to be in meetings to see and hear what attracts recruits, and no matter how hard you try to spin it man, I didn’t cast any judgement on YOU as you continue to do so onto other (none of my point of view sharers, whatever the hell that even means). You should try to be a bit more open minded as to what is actually taking place in towns like Waco, College Station, Anne Arbor and other college towns where they have a very proactive and attractive approach to recruiting. By all means however, carry on with your bad self. Keep doing you. The recruiting approach coming out of Norman, particularly with the DC and LB’r coach is way below par. Period.
Spin what? Seems you wanna dish it but can’t take it. Sounds about right. You people run your mouths and make it sound like you “realists” are spouting facts(look at your comment that started this). Are there problems? Of course. But you guys that come on here like you’ve got your finger on the pulse of what ails us is, in a word, tired. Overreacting about one or two dudes in July…also tired
So you’re happy with both Mike Stoops and Tim Kish and what they have brought to the program, both recruiting wise and on field play wise?
I’ll hang up and listen.
Your hanging up speaks volumes. 100%? No of course not. Am I ready to run em out on a rail? Nope. I don’t let things get to me. I’m capable of not beating my wife or children after we lose. As bad as some of you people think we were, we were 1 yd, 1yd, made fg and punt oob away from 11-1. You and yours will say that’s a lot. Me and mine will say no it ain’t. They are what we got. I will support em. I ain’t fickle. If they pitched a shutout in every game this yr y’all still wouldn’t be happy with something
I’ll ask an honest question if you’ll give an honest answer. How much impact on what happens in the program is due to whining and moaning of the fan base?
Last year’s recruiting, yes. Next question.
Last year’s play, no. Next question.
If you want a full itemization, I can do that.
So you are saying that the DC had nothing to do with a pretty good defensive class that has just arrived on campus?
Wait did I say that? Let me read up…yeah…yeah no I never said that, thanks for the effort though.
I will say that Montgomery was the primary guy for DeBerry, Gallimore, Overton, and Campbell. I will also say that he had a huge role in landing Stephens, Mbanasor, and Haughton.
Mike did well with Sunderland. Who else though? Also…if my memory serves me correctly, mike acyually had a hand in scaring off Jaylon Lane (safety/CB mix up) and also gave Mbanasor some hesitation (K would have more on that).
Then the dude went out and played a consistent 10 yards off and absolutely embarrassed his players and fellow staff against Baylor on the drive for the ages.
So yeah, to answer your question he did have a part in this past cycles defensive class. just not a very large part IMO.
I knew you were going to mention Monty. You forgot, Monty also was responsible for Bradford, Gresham, AD, Murray, and Broyles.
Talk about revisionist history.
Mike had a huge role in recruiting all the DB’s in last year’s class. Monty, not so much. All of the recruiting is a team thing, yet per you, Monty pretty much recruited the entire class, single handedly.
My point here is you exaggerate. Mike was far more responsible for last year’s defensive class than you wish to give credit for. You call others spin doctors, Pot. Kettle.
Please tell me other than Sunderland which DB or ANY player that Mike had more of an impact on than Jerry? Seriously, I would be interested in knowing because right now, I cannot think of 1. Not Stephens, not Mbanasor, not Haughton….maybe the JUCO kid? Legit question so please let me know who Mike had a huge impact on besides Sunderland. I very well may be wrong, but I know K will vouch for the names I mentioned.
Please, have K come to your rescue.
Come on, he was DB coach during almost all the recruiting of all those guys. He had a lot to do with all of them coming on board. Just because you don’t want to give him any credit, does not make it so.
Monty was a great recruiter. I loved his addition to the staff. But he wasn’t the second coming of Jesus. Give me a break!
Once again…please tell me recruits from this past cycle other than Sunderland where Mike was an actual asset and the main recruiter. Listen if you’re happy with Mike and Kish, well carry on and don’t bother reading this anymore because Mike in particular has been horrendous in his return. Once upon a time he was very good at what he does, not so much anymore. So instead of saying a blanket “He was the DB coach during almost all the recruiting of those guys”…look deeper, Viney and Montgomery heldd that class together when PJ was looking to bolt and they are responsible for the late pick up of Stephens. mike actually refused to accept haughtons commit because he wanted to take his visits…times have changed in recruiting and Mike has not.
Like I said before. Just because you say it’s so, does not make it so. You are not any kind of dependable source. You spout a lot of crap. So, keep spouting. It’s a free world and a free board. But what you’re saying is per your agenda, and greatly exaggerated. Nothing more, as far as I’m concerned.
What am I exaggerating? Please, your crimson glasses are clouding your vision my friend. I simply asked for recruits where Mike was an ASSET and head recruiter…you have continually dodged the question, so I’ll take that as you agree with me that his only real contribution to this cycle was Sunderland and almost chasing off several others. If you’re ok with the work Mike has done since he came back, that’s your prerogative, I am not ok with it and I would be surprised if many fans of the team are. He has been horrible both on the field and recruiting. As far as sources go…never claimed to be a “dependable” source, although you may be surprised.
I would also like to know what my agenda is? If you’re saying that my agenda is to show that Mike has been an unmitigated disaster upon his return to Norman…welp you hit it on the head. Other than that, what possible agenda could I, a fan. have?
Bob will be a god to some if we have a good year…scratch that…great year…unbelievable year…best team of all time year..otherwise he must go…the game has past him by…Barry would go undefeated every year…lol…I just laugh…its unhealthy but atleast they have insurance …right
He’s on our Mt Rushmore. All that needs to be said. Anybody who wants more needs to take a peek in the mirror and check numero uno 1st
Im not unrealistic. Id be ok with 2 out of 3 years
Hahaha
Just my opinion, but I’d much rather OU sure up their 2016 class, than be disappointed about not getting a commitment by any of their 2017 targets.
Im just ready for fall camp and then KO….when I see the phrase recruiting in July…I just see the word July….I starting focusing more on recruiting in December because thats when we can get some EEs
Agreed, these next two weeks can’t go by fast enough.
If Kish were on the Bachelor he’d leave with a dozen roses LMAO
that’s really creative, thxs
Anybody see these OU hats available at Cherokee Gift Shop written in Cherokee syllabry? These are pretty cool and nice to have if you collect OU hats:
http://cherokeegiftshop.com/ou-nike-syllabary-hat
Refresh to see picture attached.
Very cool, I need one.
Website link is above. Hop online and pick one up. I think they’re awesome!
I looked at that site earlier, the white one’s look good but I would likely pick the black one.
Agreed. The black hat is tight.
You probably need a larger size…
Actually…….I do. I have a massive dome. It doesn’t look right from the side.
One, please.
Regarding the roster updates…I saw that Dalton Wood was assigned #85…any reaction from TFB here?
just holding a spot for him, still not on campus
I see. Thanks for the timely response.
update added
Would I be out of line to say he would look good in a Billy Sims jersey? 🙂 #bringbackthefro.
Ive seen long offer lists but Anthony Hines’s list is just crazy
http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Anthony-Hines-150460
Howdy, TFB patrons.

We think she will be out of there tomorrow. God Bless her she has had health battles for over four years, now.

Bob Stoops laughing, just waiting to prove all you doubters wrong
I hope so. He’s usually good for that. But why can’t he ever prove us right when OU is majorly hyped in the preseason? It needs to go both ways 🙂
Back at it

Sexy girl
nah that’s a beautiful woman.
Still sexy
Great voice.
How many times has Anthony Hines visited OU? Practices, camps? This isn’t the first is it?
Realistically, what would a big 12 title do for our recruiting? How about the playoffs? 5 stars gonna flock to OU? Would we overtake A&M in recruiting Texas?
I don’t know about 5 stars flocking but maybe land more of the top 4 star guys
Does that Dalton Wood number mean anything about his status with the football program?
No
71st place in recruiting what is going on? Why don’t We here Mikes Stoops name? Has he been nutered? Levi Draper commitment bothers me greatly. Even Alabama offer this kid before OU did. Tim Kish needs gone as well. I watched a playback of OU FSU last night we have fallen off the face of the Earth in less than 3 years.
something original….
You won’t hear mike’s name in recruiting. He will just quietly land guys like he did with mbanasor, haughton, Sunderland, will Johnson, mckinney and Stephens last year.
July
Signing day is now July?
OMG!OMG!OMG!
Yes. Burn it
…down…to the ground.
Not their best song but it will work
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxytyRy-O1k
I like that song/video and have used it for driving the same point.
Here we go….
https://youtu.be/g8D4AsLzlM0
Now we’re getting some classic “burn it down” music in here!
A classic.
This, too.
He comitted to OSU over Alabama. So, that means that Alabama fans should be throwing fits and wondering what’s wrong, too, yes?
Hey man rationale is not allowed
Burn Bama down…down to the ground!
Now I’m good with this
If you listen to Paawwl Finebaum’s show you’ll hear a little of that. When they lost to OU it was baaadd, calling for Nick to leave. Seriously.
Never listen to him, but chances are it was other sec school fans trolling bama like some try and do here.
I still believe the perception the media has created for OU is hurting us. One team goes 8-5 and the program is falling apart another goes 8-5 is on their way to the top. I’ll say it again no one will be shocked if we the Big 12. Our question marks are at big positions, but still think we are closer than a lot of people think. Just have to get out there and prove it before all the recruits fill up on espn’s kook aid.BOOM SOON!
I think we created that perception for ourselves. Getting face stomped by Clemson on national television did a lot of damage.
This.
Espn had turned on us long before then. It’s almost a self fulfilling prophecy. I agree we didn’t help any.
Trying to watch the OU vs WVU replay on Fox Central Sports. They keep running an ad for the Spanish novella “Suleiman.” Seriously?
I may need to find out where their offices are and have a chat with them about their “targeted” viewers, they sure aren’t watching OU replays.
I’ve figured out why it’s so hot in Oklahoma: the sky has fallen and thus nothing is blocking the sun’s rays. Woe, woe, and more woe.
Funny thing is I freeze my butt off when I go inside…it aint hot if your use to it
Have you seen the extended forecast for August? If true it will be glorious…upper 80’s-low 90’s all month.
Shut up!! I need to look…hope your right…good time to do some discN
Here you go.
http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/ardmore-ok/73401/weather-forecast/335171
mid August looks nice…what do you think about the mini ice age some scientist are predicting for 2030 for a decade…I might have to open a ski lodge in the Arbuckles lol
How did OU end up with Reece Clark? In April he had accepted a preferred walkon spot at Baylor.
What’s the matter with kids today?
http://media3.giphy.com/media/28RqaROlHD6W4/200.gif
Not that he is likely to see any playing time. But I was surprised to see another QB on the roster. Maybe a candidate to be a holder?
I doubt he would see any time at BU either, just havin’ some fun with the Bye-Bye Birdie reference.
Although crazier things have happened than a walk-on QB being a sensation.
Baker Mayfield walked on at T tech and OU
Anybody heard from Dustin to see if Whaley has committed to us yet?
Strange…..I mean I changed out his phone to a rotary dial but I thought he would have figured it out by now. 🙂
Think if you made it a CB he would figure it out
10-4
If I say go to channel 6..forget it..go to channel 3
Levi Draper will not play football at Oklahoma State. Mark my word.
..
Word marked

So when I see “thanks for my 42nd offer” I just think that was time wasted. Anyone agree?
Sorry but if it really took us that long to evaluate a 4* safety then we don’t deserve to be in the running. I know there’s a lot more to evaluations than we might think but 42nd offer is silly and we’re scrambling for players at this point.
Really, scrambling? How long is it until NSD.
5 to 6 months, but if you’re just now offering a highly rated player that already holds offers from every SEC and B1G school, it l looks a bit desperate at this point.
Werent we like boudreaux’s 60th-70th offer, and still made the final 2?
Mc Gusty is a huge pickup, he could attract more kids, prove OU is not only football U
