– Xavier Kelly: A bit of good news this Monday morning as 2016 DE Xavier Kelly (6’5″ 230 – Wichita, KS) tells TFB that he will be in Norman tomorrow.

Kelly has been wanting to visit Oklahoma for a while now and it appears that will finally happen. As an athlete, Kelly is the true definition of a “freak.” At the SPARQ combine in Dallas, he measured in at 6’5″ (without shoes), weighed 230 lbs & ran verified laser 40 of 4.55 seconds. – (Super K)

– Parker Boudreaux: And continuing with the good news theme, we have some more with regards to 2016 OL & OU offer, Parker Boudreaux. I had a chance to speak with his father, who let me know they called the OU staff to set plans for one of his son’s allotted five official visits. In fact, it appears this the first official visit they are scheduling because apparently Boudreaux really wants his mother to see Norman.

Boudreux, as most of you know, visited Oklahoma once already on an unofficial and absolutely loved it. Since then the Sooners have been one of this top schools, along with a few others. We are told Parker will release his official Top 4 or 5 after an unofficial visit to Notre Dame, which he is taking on June 10th. And we have every reason to believe the Sooners will be among his top schools.

Boudreaux’s father tells us they are planning on making it to Oklahoma’s first home game and that a commitment decision will then likely come “early in the season.” Again, really feel OU is in striking distance here. Feels like Boudreaux and his father very much like OU and it’s proximity to where the elder Boudreaux grew up (Louisiana), but it will obviously be important for his mother to see (and like) OU as well. – (Super K)

– Tre Brown: By now most of you are familiar with 2017 OK Preps cornerback, Tre Brown (5’11” 165 – Tulsa, OK). If not, you will be soon enough. Brown is a corner that, when it’s all said and done, will likely have numerous D-I offers from around the country.

The first thing every defensive backs coach will want to see is a prospect’s speed, and Brown has all that and then some. In this past year’s OK 6A state track prelim, he ran a blazing fast 10.51 second 100-meter dash! And eventually placed second in the finals with a time of 10.69 (still EXTREMELY fast). He’s light on his feet and closes well, but has the speed to sit on routes and then recover to stay in phase if he gets a double move.

Brown made it to one of the OU camps this past weekend and told TFB the coaches had them run 40s and that he clocked in at 4.33. His speed and performance at the camp definitely caught the attention of the OU coaches. We spoke with Brown last night, who said Oklahoma invited him back for the elite prospect camp they are holding this Wednesday.

Apparently he had a chance to meet with Bob Stoops, who expressed just how impressed he and his staff were with Brown’s abilities. With the right skill development, Brown could end up being a very special corner at the next level. – (Super K)

– DeMarco McMichael: It seems like more and more OK Preps talent just keeps emerging. To that point, we wanted to mention an intriguing new 2016 defensive lineman prospect we recently came across, DeMarco McMichael (6’2″ 300 – Elk City, OK).

McMichael has great size and build with a very quick first step. In my opinion, on film he definitely has the look of a D-I defensive lineman. He not only plays inside, but also plays well enough in space that you see him on one particular play in the video below line up at OLB and run down the ball carrier in backside pursuit.

The Elk City big man tells TFB that he actually plays on both the offensive and defensive line and does so pretty much throughout every game. As you can imagine that is exhausting, so it will be really interesting to see what the young man is capable of once he can get in a college S&C program. As well as getting the attention of coaches at the next level to determine which side of the ball he has the brightest future and focus solely on one position.

Really exciting to continue to see this caliber of player pop up on the OK Preps scene.  – (Super K)

    Good news all around!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Xavier Kelly is a bit taller and bigger hit version of Jonathan Jackson.

  • hOUligan says:

Two of the top DE prospects in the nation are from KS…Kelly and Bledsoe. Love starting the week with good news about one of those guys. Kelly #8 WDE in the country with Harbaugh, Saban and everyone else after him. Going to be a tough ‘get’.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t like them putting all of their eggs in Whaleys basket.

  • Jason Vos says:

Should we be worried about Whaley and Texas A&M? Thought Keith Ford going there would play into our favor.

But then Again I bet we could get LaMical Perine to switch his commitment from Florida if we wanted.

    • Super K says:

It’s obviously good that Devwah is returning to OU but Beaumont coaches are very tight with TAMU staff and I think that’s some cause for concern.

  • Jason Vos says:

The 2 DE prospects from Kansas have built a strong relationship with coach Reynolds especially Xavier Kelly.

Bledsoe was a lot closer to Montgomery, but I think he is opening up to Reynolds now. I wouldn’t be surprised if we landed both especially Kelly.

Plus they have seen the success Kansas players have had at Oklahoma. Bell, Grissom, Phillips e.t.c

  • Boom says:

Kelly, wow, just wow. Turned it off after the dunk, don’t need to see anymore.

  • rainydaze114 says:

DeMarco McMichael is a fun name to say aloud.

  • Kyle says:

Any news on Dalton Wood? The DOK reported Saturday that he’d left campus in the middle of the night Wednesday.

  • Cole says:

Does anyone know how Austin Kendall did during the opening semis? Didn’t watch but never heard anything about home. Good or bad.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

I am a bit curious on what Gundy has got up his sleave. Yeah, I know each coach seems to have a certain area of coverage, but some of the guy’s that Cale has brought in unexpected/fingers crossed has just been impressive.

  • Boom says:

Tre Brown – With 4.33 speed, I see Riley wanting him as one of the WR’s.

    • Super K says:

Could see that too but hopefully Cooks wins that battle! 🙂

      • Boom says:

Can’t get that defensive mindset of yours to open up to the offense. Riley will need to work on you. All the freaks can’t go play on defense. Throw Riley a bone every now and then.

        • Jordan Esco says:

More money to be made in the long run as a lockdown corner than a sub-six foot WR, even w/ that kind of speed, IMO.

          • Coach K says:

Tre is a corner all the way though he is great with the ball in his hands too.

He needs to work on his hip mobility but could be special.

He is very raw in his technique but is the type of kid that soaks up coaching.

Best raw athlete at Union on a long time.

          • Jordan Esco says:

            Spot. On.

    • SavageSoonerEsq says:

      Kid looks legit.

You said Brown was fast, but WOW. He makes fast people look . . . not fast. Let’s take him and that Jenks CB and call it a wrap.

  • Sooner born, Sooner bred says:

I agree K, hope they keep Brown on defense. Looks like a difference maker any where they play him though. Still…..looks like a shutdown corner to me. All these young men you’ve posted showing impressive abilities and look like athletes. Also liked to see post from Coach Cale Gundy…..one of the great all-time Sooners. Wow, it’s been 17 years. I sincerely hope they look at him for head coach when Coach Stoops time is done at Oklahoma. He’s definitely paid his dues. Boomer! OU ☝

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Until recently I thought a different former QB was the next HC. I’ be happy with Cale though, he at least earned it.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Not sure how everyone else feels but I’m ready for some fresh Booms!

  • Sooner 76 says:

I see Kelly as a standup WDE in our new set @ 220 lbs Looks like a player at the next level!

  • Randy says:

    OLB Wish List.

    Austin Roberts – JC
    Koron Crump – JC
    Xavier Kelly – HS
    Amani Bledsoe – HS
    Isaiah Chambers – HS

    • Sooner 4Ever says:

I don’t see Bledsoe as an OLB. At 6’5″, 275 going into his senior year of hs, I can’t imagine him being under 285 when he hits the field in college. That size and a reported 4.8 forty sounds like 4-tech DE to me.

    • Brien Brown says:

Isn’t Xavier Kelly a DE also, more like Caleb Kelly is someone we should want at LB. Either way Xavier and Amani would be good gets as athletic/big DE’s. IMO of course.

      • Randy says:

I want the long, bigger OLB. Must have the feet but I like the length and pop on the edge. Think Grissom with better feet and hips. Kelly would be my idea of a ILB.

        • Brien Brown says:

I just want LB’s like Lofton, Lewis, Calmus, Marshall, and Lehman just to name a few guys, that where athletic and made big plays. Not saying the guys we have now are by any means bad, just want guys that make plays. Not so sure LB’s are an issue secondary was pretty bad last year, really hope the new guys we signed help out. Hearing great things about Parker in the Spring so far, so I am hopeful as I am every season.

          • Randy says:

I don’t think we have a problem at LB, never have. i just think this how to slow down offenses nowadays not going shut them down. But setting the edge, and the length could bother the QB along with the ability of these guys being able to rush the passer.

          • blaster1371 says:

Evans will be a very good linebacker by the time he leaves OU. Evans was a punt and kick off return man in HS and a very good one at that. He has been playing linebacker for only two seasons. He has the speed and athleticism to be great in coverage (see int against TCU) and pursuit . Once he begins reading keys faster and using his hands against blockers more effectively he will very good.

          • Randy says:

            I agree… Him and Tay Evans !

          • SamSooner says:

Brien, these were great LBs, no doubt. However, the game has changed a lot since those fellas were here. With today’s offensive schemes, I wonder if they would have been able to do all that would be asked of them today.

          • Brien Brown says:

I have no doubt that Lofton could mean he is a talking machine in the NFL against much better athletes now I understand the college game is much different. But you are right but still those guys where sound and where coachable and listened, think that’s the difference and the thing I am talking about more so, that I miss the accountability of those guys.

          • SamSooner says:

Great. Fundamentally sound does make up for deficiencies. They were also mean and refused to be outworked. You are right about Lofton, I agree 100%.

          • William Ryan says:

There seemed to be a hole between the ilb and the safety last year hopefully the secondary being in the same room with a year older Evans and the return of Shannon could play a key role

        • William Ryan says:

Unless your playing a true 34 defence (which it looks where slowly moving away from) 6’5 265 pound guys are to big and not quick enough in space to handle spread offenses that so many teams in this league run.

          • Randy says:

I think you will see a change.. 300lb DEs (like Walker, Gallimore, Lampkin).. 265lb OLB, Edge guys like Grissom, Dupree at Kentucky, Von Miller, Justin Houston.

I was worried about a 4:20 update, maybe the team violations that were discussed were finally released

  • RocketCitySooner says:

Could anyone direct an older guy who lacks experience but who would like to learn, a place where that describes the differences between a 3-4-4 and a 4-2-5 defense, advantages, disadvantages, and personnel requirements?

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

It would be nice if we could get a commit or two this week. I mean Bama already has 4 commits next year. Michigan State already has 21 commits. Several schools have 15-20. Wth is going on?

    • Sooner Ray says:

Some schools just raid the buffet, we sit at a linen covered table with a glass of wine……but what the hell do I know? 🙂

      • EasTex says:

I don’t care if they eat a microwave dinner from a TV table, as long as they bring in the playmakers.

        • JB says:

We haven’t been bringing in enough playmakers…for every Samaje Perine there are at least 4 Quincy Russells, Courtney Garnetts, Josh Jarboes and Kyle Marrs. I’m getting really frustrated with how many people we bring in that suddenly want to quit playing football as soon as it is time to report. Our attrition rate is absurd. I’m also very frustrated by our poor recruiting in general and how many battles for players that we’re losing…battles we used to win.

I want to be optimistic about the upcoming season, but I’m finding it impossible when I recall that the very best part of our team last year was the offense and the very worst part was our defense, and as a result, the OC and WR coach were fired, but Mike Stoops & Tim Kish still have jobs? WTF?

Such a move makes me think Bob isn’t sure what he’s doing anymore and just throwing a bunch of darts at a dartboard hoping to hit a bullseye. I think his nepotism has replaced his judgement and he refuses to see that his brother is not the great DC he once was and needs to go. OU has been on a downward fall since 2008. 7 years later, I still don’t see a trampoline below to catch us.

The only bright spots I’ve seen lately are Diron Reynolds snagging the JC D-lineman and Lincoln Riley snagging the QB. Hopefully that’s a preview of what’s to come, but I need to see a lot more.

          • Zack says:

The reason the offensive coaches are gone is because they lacked consistency for the last 2 years. Yeah the defense has been horrible at times but last year’s team was very young in the secondary and somewhat overrated in the front 7. I think there will be a much better product this year on the defensive side of the ball, and the thing that will help the most is having an offense that will be consistent.

    • Stephen says:

Someone at OU needs to learn how to conduct and ride a “hype train”, I know the coaches don’t want to pressure recruits, as it is not their style, but they need to realize that just because something worked before doesn’t mean it will work again (i.e. tradition, 2000 NC, or that one game where we beat Bama on national TV).

    • kokevo says:

I completely agree. The recruiting has been just short of horrible there are teams with better classes already for next cycle. We will be lucky to get a top 15 to 20 class.

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

If pressuring them is what Saban does we need to do the same he has brought in about 5 straight top 2 recruiting classes.

        • OohRah Mama says:

Should Bob oversign, greyshirt, pull offers, and whine because Saban does? I know you wouldn’t want that. Thank gawd Stoops isn’t Saban.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

How long has it been since we’ve had even a top 5 recruiting class?

          • OohRah Mama says:

I understand the point you’re making. I’m just saying that the negative, questionable & underhanded tactics some coaches use aren’t the ones we’d like our coaches to emulate. Yes, winning will help boost the recruiting rankings. Let’s emulate that.

          • JB says:

Have to get the players to accomplish that feat.

          • Mr. Jones says:

2010, I believe. So definitely long enough.

          • JB says:

Bob doesn’t doesn’t oversign or pull scholarships (unless you count all the players he’s kicked off) but he does his fair share of whining and complaining.

          • OohRah Mama says:

So do fans, as is plain.

        • Mike Reed says:

If we win 3 titles in the next 4 years I’m sure we’ll sign a few top 5 classes as well.

  • EasTex says:

I was here last summer, but I don’t recall an “elite” OU camp. Is this something new?

    • ccmosaic says:

They did it last year as well. If I recall it was a lot more elite than this one is looking though.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Oh look another 4 star ILB commits to Bama giving them 23 commits averaging just higher than 4 stars. Hey people either you want to come to a historic school like OU or you don’t. It’s ok we can move on if you don’t. Just Sh*t or get off the pot already.
