Du’Vonta Lampkin: Most of all you will probably recall the name Du’Vonta Lampkin, the 2015 DT prospect that was a one-time OU commit who flipped to Texas and ultimately signed with the Horns. Well, I have spoken with a few sources and have been told it now appears as though Lampkin will not be attending the University of Texas.

Apparently, UT has a foreign language requirement that most schools, including OU, do not. I was told by a source that while there was an attempt by Lampkin to try and meet said requirement, it looks unlikely what needed to happen in order for him to qualify academically for Texas (important distinction) isn’t going to happen. The best case scenario for UT was that Lampkin would work towards completing that language requirement over the summer and then eventually enroll at Texas in August. I have been told, however, that is no longer the plan.

For OU fans this is relevant because I have been told OU is Lampkin’s most likely landing spot. Although LSU has also been putting out some feelers as well to gauge his interest.

However since Lampkin did wind up singing his letter of intent with Texas, I’ve been given the impression there will be some sort of NCAA process he will have to go through in order to be released from said agreement and ultimately sign with another school (be it OU or someone else). That said, at this time I am unfamiliar with what exactly that process would entail.

Again, I am told that as of right now, assuming all things are manageable with regards to this NCAA process, Lampkin is not likely to end up at Texas and appears to be intent on attending Oklahoma. – (Super K)

Mark Jackson: Just a quick note on 2016 OLB/DE Mark Jackson out of Cibolo, TX. Pretty sure most are aware as it has been out there for some time, but Jackson will be visiting Texas A&M this weekend. As we’ve noted before, he plans on committing early this summer and has told TFB that he will take a trip to Oklahoma after his commitment. He took a recent trip to Texas which, he tells me, put the Longhorns back in the mix but right now it really feels like more of a true TAMU & OU battle.

Jackson let me know that he has not yet set an actual commitment date, but based on past conversations it won’t surprise us at all if an announcement is made in the next week or so. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 6:22 pm): 2016 RB & OU offer Trayveon Williams has committed to TCU.

– UPDATE (Sat., 12:22 pm): Just wanted to pass along that Brandon was able to confirm 2016 DT & OU offer, Chris Daniels (6’3″ 301 – Euless, TX), will be on campus with his family this weekend.

– UPDATE (Sat., 1:52 pm): Welp.

– UPDATE (Sat., 4:06 pm): The latest from Du’Vonta Lampkin.

– UPDATE (Sat., 4:16 pm): And, unfortunately, with good news comes some bad. Apparently 2016 DE/OLB & OU offer Mark Jackson has committed to Texas A&M. As we told you above, Jackson is in College Station this weekend on an unofficial visit. It will certainly be interesting to see if our reported OU visit still happens and/or whether or not the Sooners’ staff can potentially flip him even after today.

– UPDATE (Sat., 4:51 pm):

– UPDATE (Sun., 11:27 am): As mentioned in the comments below, OU’s freshman class is starting to arrive on campus.

    First…..

  • Randy says:

Would be a nice surprise to end up with Lampkin… Reynolds needs to close on him.

    • LLAdamJ7 says:

It would be a nice surprise, but seems like a lot has to go right in order to make it happen. Not getting my hopes up for this.

      • Krys Allen says:

Mainly because things that involve NCAA releases never seem to work out for OU…

        • keith moore says:

I may be mistaken (read: I usually am) but I think the NCAA views the signing of a LOI the same as enrolling. The athlete belongs to the University. He very well may have to sit.
Add to that the Inter-conference transfer rules, and it could be that he has to sit a year and lose two, making him a sophomore before he ever sees the field.
That would be a lot to overcome.
Having said that, I hope he makes it.

  • Boomer15 says:

so when do we hear that Wariboko isn’t interested in studying whales and wants to join Lampkin at OU?

  • Randy says:

    True..

  • OceanDescender says:

Well there’s a nice athlete picked up in the eleventh hour. Don’t fudge this one up, NCAA…… please.

    • Daddy R says:

NCAA will probably make him sit out the year. lol

      • OceanDescender says:

With no scholarship while requiring mandatory rules meetings every Saturday morning or some such diabolical ruling haha.

  • Daddy R says:

Well now, that is out of left field isn’t it? Interesting..

  • dallassooner says:

Man, this seems highly unlikely. If he had signed with A&M I could see it happening; but I don’t see UT letting him walkaway to their rival.

    • paganpink says:

I know it. They should respect your authori-tie, though and let him come with no encumbrances!!

    • Super K says:

It doesn’t sound like he will qualify for Texas. Similar to the situation that happened with Bo Wallace and Notre Dame a couple weeks back.

  • Jeff says:

Would Chuck let Lumpkin go to OU?

    • Daddy R says:

If the kid doesn’t qualify for UT, I’m not sure Chuck would have any say whatsoever. It’s not a matter of the kid wanting to transfer, its that he’s not getting in to the school. Unfortunate for UT, but maybe a blessing for the kid and another school.

      • Jeff says:

Think you are right if he doesn’t enroll at Texass should have no say so where he goes.

  • Mike Reed says:

Let’s see if Mr. Strong has the same integrity as Mr. Stoops and give an unrestricted release.

  • Daddy R says:

Jordan, can you clarify if a release would even be needed in the Lumpkin case? I’m under the impression that this is not a matter of transfer rules, and simply that he cannot get in to UT academically, which would then leave him free to go wherever.. Am I wrong?

    • Super K says:

I think you’re right but just am not certain enough. But it definitely sounds like a situation similar to what Bo Wallace dealt with a few weeks back with Notre Dame.

      • Daddy R says:

Thanks for responding K. Yea, I’m just thinking that the kid is not asking to transfer, its just that he’s not getting into the school, he doesn’t qualify. Just a risk you take when you sign a kid. Would have been the exact same if Overton would have ended up not qualifying for us, then he would have been free to enroll wherever..

  • Bob Edwards says:

It appears that if the school does not allow him to attend the NLI is considered null and void. In which case, he is free to go where he wants as if he had never signed an NLI which would mean no transfer rules.

    • Daddy R says:

      Thank ya Bob!

    • SamSooner says:

      Thanks, Bob.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Great Job Mr. Edwards. I was going to look that up and didn’t even have to. I appreciate your research. I copy and pasted the paragraph below that seems to apply. Nothing with the NCAA is ever a slam dunk but this seems pretty cut and dry!
      NULL AND VOID:

The NLI shall be declared null and void if any of the following occur:

      1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: If a prospective student-athlete is denied admission to the signing institution, the NLI shall be declared null and void. There must be documentation substantiating the denial of admission before an NLI is considered null and void. The prospective student-athlete should be informed by the signing institution of the status of his or her admissions.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Lampkin;s affections lay with Texas….He needs to ‘twist in the wind’ , get denied entrance to UT, then have to attend a Texas JC for a couple of years—–until he is mature enough to actually honor a commitment when one is made………

      • brainpimp says:

Please please go drive into some moving water.

      • jonnyBgood says:

He’s a kid. It appears you left that part out while coming to your conclusion. I wonder if the fact that UT is involved is leading you to chide this kid so? We aren’t talking about whether or not he is going to be involved with a child he created. We aren’t talking about backing out of a commitment to the US Armed Services. We are talking about football and I for one don’t agree with chastising youngsters for life decisions of this magnitude.

      • Cole says:

Do you even have friends? People like you are why OU fans get a bad rep.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Bob…………..Texas has stated no unconditional release will be given Lampkin by the university which apparently means Lampkin will face a loss of elgibility if he enrolls at another Little 12-2 school ( similar to the Mayfield situation )…..not sure if Texas is blowing smoke or speaking with NCAA backing…………..

      • blaster1371 says:

That runs counter with the wording of the rules posted above. Texass is blowing smoke and trying to scare this kid into doing what they want him to d0 as if they own him or something. The Mayfield situation is totally different.

  • Wilson says:

“Bobby we speak English.” Sorry couldn’t resist…

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

    Twenty-eighth

  • Boom says:

Well, this one is going out to the poster who says OU is in bad situation for not have filled all 85 slots. Now you know why, you get to pick up big time players like Lampkin instead of saying, there’s no room in the inn.

    • Brent says:

there are always transfers and illegible players after spring. that would be why you fill all 85 slots.

      • Boom says:

We weren’t at 85 after NSD and didn’t add any after either. Therefore, we were below the line and then spring came so we have more room.

  • Tipman says:

Texas has ZERO DTs in their ’15 class

    • BigJoeBrown says:

      Ha Ha

    • jonnyBgood says:

That is surprising. When you consider the loss of Malcolm Brown you have to wonder what that line is going to look like this year. In fairness I don’t follow their recruiting much so I have no clue what their depth looks like at that position. Hopefully it’s weaker than circus lemonade!

  • Malicong says:

Something minor that made me chuckle…
“However since Lampkin did wind up singing his letter of intent with Texas…”
Imagining Lampkin singing his letter of intent gave a laugh.
Hopefully he winds up with the good guys but either way my hope is he gets in somewhere. It would be terrible if a last minute acedmic issue costs him a year of development.

    • HoustonChiver says:

Why would he be singing his letter of intent…?

      • Malicong says:

He wouldn’t, he would be SIGNING his letter of intent. The typo and the accompanying mental image of a 6’3″ 290lb d-lineman singing how he will be attending the University of Texas made me laugh.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

I believe this takes care of any questions. Straight to the point:

    “NULL AND VOID:

      I’ll take two please….

    • JD says:

On the bright side…at least we won’t be playing against him in Dallas

    • Sooner 4Ever says:

Dude sure doesn’t move like he is 6’3″ 290+ pounds, does he? Imagine the DL in a year or two with an interior 3 of Lampkin, Gallimore, Orso. That’s 3 very athletic guys who will all be 300 pounds or more. Overton is a big’un with excellent mobility for his size as well.

If I’m DeBerry, McGinnis and Tay Evans, I’m licking my chops thinking about the clear lanes to the RB I’m going to have. If I’m Hines, Kelly or Ferns, I’ve got to be thinking about how good I could look playing behind a 5 man front with 3 hosses like that attacking the OL in front of me.

  • EasTex says:

I checked to see what the wHorns were saying about this at BON and not a peep, at this time.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Interesting that Cooks recruited ‘Vonta while at ND so we may not have Monty, we have Cooks *and* , but he did take an official to South Bend…
That being said, we have two elite 2015 DTs in Que (NT) and Neville. We turned down the 4 star that went to OSU at the last minute, is there a spot for him?

    • JD says:

We have space. Yes there is a spot for him…let the best man win

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Where did you see that OU turned Darrion Daniels down?

      • Indy_sooner says:

I don’t recall exactly where, but it was around the time that stories started circulating that Que wouldn’t qualify and Mike made the reaffirmation to stick with him.

  • Bob Edwards says:

    Beginning Level Proficiency

Students at the University of Texas at Austin are required to have completed two years of a foreign language in high school. Student admitted to the University may address any foreign language deficiency by taking college level foreign language courses to meet the beginning level of proficiency. Please see the beginning level course list for specific languages and their course numbers.

    http://www.utexas.edu/cola/student-affairs/Majors-and-Degrees/foreign-language-requirement.php

    • Bob Edwards says:

Love the irony of a grammar error in the official UT website on language proficiency .

    • bjwalker82 says:

Wow what? You’re telling me that all of the other Student-Athletes have done this? Crazy

      • Bob Edwards says:

Only if they wanted a degree. Also that is liberal arts, did not check the other schools to confirm. Only so much time I am willing to spend on a Horn website even for the sake of my Sooner brethren.

    • EasTex says:

So he could be admitted w/o the language requirement as long as it is part of his course load?

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

        that’s how I read that

      • Bob Edwards says:

That’s how it reads and would be typical of a school what I know for a school with a language requirement. Unless there is some rule about unconditional admission and that doesn’t qualify. But that I don’t know.

      • Daddy R says:

That is not how I read it. But that is how it is at OU. They require foreign language also, but you can take them as part of your regular course load. At Tejas, I think you must have them completed before you are eligible to enroll. This means he would have to complete them this summer, or he wont be eligible. This is where Tejas is different than many other universities… I think. lol

        • EasTex says:

Bob’s paragraph about Texsa said he could enroll as long as he took the beginners course load.

          • Daddy R says:

Bob and I hashed this out a few minutes ago.. its up a few posts. (I found another webpage that made it more clear and I put the link in above post.)

Basically, Lampkin has been admitted, but that is on condition that he is on track to complete the required courses before fall arrives. Admittance is not the same as enrolling, and he was admitted as a special case, for students who are on track to complete the requirements before enrollment.

If he does not complete his requirements this summer, he will not be eligible to enroll in fall, at UT. But at OU, they will allow him to complete the foreign language as part of his first two semesters here, so he would be eligible to enroll.

          • EasTex says:

Okay, then. I was responding off of the disqus page.

          • Daddy R says:

Oh I have done that plenty. lol

          • Bob Edwards says:

Assuming the web pages are correct which I have found to not always be the case with university web pages. I have also found that the actual implementation of the rules often depends on who you talk to. And of course the NCAA just makes stuff up sometimes.

          • Daddy R says:

Absolutely. I’m still not certain we have figured it totally out.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

“Liter cola? I don’t know what that is”
“Liter is French for give me some cola before I break..”

    • Wilson says:

Thanks for throwing mud on my relatively clear window of optimism…lol

    • SamSooner says:

This sounds like a requirement for athletic eligibility, which means he wouldn’t be eligible for two years. Am I correct in my understanding?

      • Bob Edwards says:

No this is from the school of Liberal Arts. It says that, if you don’t have the required classes coming in, you can make them up by taking the beginning level courses.

        • Daddy R says:

But he would have to make them up in the summer, before he is eligible to enroll in fall, or he won’t be eligible. I’m thinking this is where Texas and most other schools differ. At OU, they require two years of foreign language also, but being eligible to attend the school is not dependent upon having completed the classes beforehand, as you can enroll to take them your first and second semesters. At tejas, I think you have to have met the requirements, BEFORE you are eligible for admittance to any UT program.

At least that’s how I read what their link says..

          • SamSooner says:

The way I read it is that he could be admitted so that he can take the classes. This little inclusion seems to be negatively impacting his eligibility to compete in athletics.

          • Daddy R says:

I think he would have to complete them for summer school this year, before he could become eligible for the fall, which is what Super K alluded to in the story above. And I guess that was Lampkins original plan, but now maybe its changed? Which means he would not be eligible to enroll for any fall classes at UT, because he would have not met the incoming freshman requirements, which is to have already completed two years of foreign language, or the collegiate equivalent.

Many schools, like OU, allow you to enroll in those foreign language classes your first two semesters, but at UT, you must have already completed them to be eligible to enroll as a freshman.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well what I quoted is from the UT web site. It says “Student admitted to the University may address any foreign language deficiency by taking college level foreign language courses to meet the beginning level of proficiency.” That would indicate that he doesn’t have to have the classes to be admitted which is the issue as it has been stated.

If the website incorrect then someone needs to tell the people that put together the UT website. It is possible that the athletes fall under different rules, but no one has quoted anything that would indicate that.

          • Daddy R says:

“Student admitted to the University may address any foreign language deficiency by taking college level foreign language courses to meet the beginning level of proficiency.”

Student admitted to university is not the same as enrolling and being eligible to enroll. It just means he got his acceptance letter (admittance), which probably stated something like, “student is admitted to university, as long as remaining requirements are met.” If they are not met, ie. not taking his language classes beforehand, then student would not be eligible to enroll in fall.

That is how I read that. If Texas does not require him to complete them beforehand, then they are just like OU in this regard, and hence there would be no different policy that K and others are alluding to.

          • Daddy R says:

Here is another webpage I found about requirements regarding entry to UT…
            http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/admission/hs-courses

Because he has not completed his foreign language,
Lampkin would fall into this category:

            “Other Eligible Applicants

In some cases, applicants may be considered for admission without completing all the coursework listed above.

Such students must be on track to complete at least four units of language arts, two units of foreign language, three units of mathematics, two units of science, and three units of social studies, in addition to a certain number of electives. Visit the Coursework Details page for information about the kinds of courses that are acceptable.”

This basically states he must be on track to complete the requirements before fall enrollment… So he needs them this summer, or he isnt going to UT this fall.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Good find. That seems to contradict what the Liberal arts page says but having dealt with universities and the requirements and their web pages in recent years I know that a literal reading is not always the correct one.

  • Thegunnfather says:

Good news two days in a roll. One more and it’s a streak!!

  • Mr. Jones says:

That’s a darn good DT class if Lampkin ends up at OU with Gallimore and Overton. I’d say top 5 for that position.

  • Wilson says:

    I……..hate……off………season…….

  • Mr. Jones says:

Would this affect how many DT’s they take for 2016?

    • JD says:

You would think..especially if 1 or 2 (likely) redshirt…We’d likely take one less

    • Doobie74OU says:

I would say that it depends on the attrition rate! If a couple more guys think they are buried on the depth chart and transfer it could still leave holes. We only show 8 on the team at this time and 2 of those will be Seniors next year. Then you factor in this switch to a Hybrid 3-4 / 4-3 defensive alignment. It still seems like 2 is a good idea if with Lampkin and without him 3 isn’t crazy.

  • rphokc says:

lampkin just needs to get a summer job with local lawn care co and he’ll be fluent in spanish in time for fall workouts

  • Fear The Magic says:

Not to damper the enthusiasm but just read this.

Then there’s Texas and Big 12 reporter Max Olson:

@max_olson: On Du’Vonta Lampkin: Cy Falls coach Kirk Eaton says there’s no reason to believe he won’t enroll at Texas.

@max_olson: Lampkin has test score to qualify and is taking correspondence course for foreign language requirement, per his coach.

    • Daddy R says:

That was the original plan, but according to K’s sources above, that plan to take the courses over the summer has changed… For what its worth. Guess we’ll know by fall!

    • Jordan Esco says:

See my reponse to Doobie74OU above regarding this.

    • Rene Goupillaud says:

That’s a complete joke, correspondence course n foreign language. He won’t know sh!t. But then do we really want someone who has to be guided down the road.

  • Doobie74OU says:

The dreaded “Conflicting Reports” on Lampkin! Hopefully we get something from the horses mouth “Sooner” rather than later!

    • Jordan Esco says:

Just so you, or anyone for that matter, don’t feel we’re failing to address things after the initial post above.

Well aware of what was said below in those tweets from Max Olson. But we stand by what we reported. Got it from two completely independent sources.

Which is not to say he’s wrong and we’re right, but we do stand by what we reported.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Jordan we understand that you are accurately reporting what you were told. Hopefully, everyone here is mature enough to realize that sometimes those sources are wrong. You guys have generally proven that you have good sources and that you report accurately. But sometimes sources are wrong and sometime the truth changes as things happen. Keep up the good work.

        • Jordan Esco says:

It’s the risk you take anytime you’re going to try and break news, IMO. No one is ever going to be right 100% of the time. No one. But the goal is to be right more than you’re wrong, obviously.

The only people who are going to be right 100% of the time are those who simply repeat what others have already reported/said. And don’t get me wrong, there is a place for those type of sites/people, but even then they’ll be wrong on occasion as well b/c they’re just regurgitating what someone else said, so if that someone is wrong then they in turn are wrong as well.

And I’d like to believe our track record at this point does more than speak for itself, but there are always going to be those people who only remember the times where you were wrong and never recognize and/or give you the same credit when you’re right. And we’re fine w/ that.

          • hushnpa says:

TFB should have a higher goal than being right over 50 % of the time . You should have the goal of being right more than Everyone else put together !
O ,, wait you Are right more than everyone else put together ! Ahahahahha :0

          • Jordan Esco says:

I appreciate you saying that, but also just clarify I never said the standard was to be right 50% of the time. Obviously the goal is to be right 100% of the time. However, I’m simply admitting (as would anyone w/ a brain I’d think) that’s an impossible standard to achieve.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

unfortunately Jordan, there are lots of people w/out a brain these days

          • hushnpa says:

I knew that ,, I just wanted to set up my brilliant kudo .. (I’ll keep working on that )
o well its like my wife said to me the other day , ” you wanna be right or you wanna be happy ?”
            🙂

          • Wilson says:

            Ahhahahahahahahah

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

“No one is ever right 100% of the time. No one.”

You have never been married have you?

          • Jordan Esco says:

            It’s b/c I have been married that I know this 😉

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Then either you are no longer married, or you soon won’t be… otherwise, you would know by now that your wife is always right, 100% of the time. Don’t believe me? Just ask her.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Thinking you’re right 100% of the time and being right 100% of the time are two very different things. Nowhere did I say, however, that I point out the distinction to my better half 🙂

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Oh, I was pretty sure you haven’t pointed that fact out to her recently… because how would you read our replies and respond to them with both eyes swollen shut.

I ain’t scared of my wife, though… I can outrun her.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Thanks for the Pepsi out the nose moment, Dave.

Incorrect. Even when she’s wrong, she’s right. Happy wife, happy life.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Correct sir. You can only report how things stand now. Post report things can change.

          • Jordan Esco says:

            Exactly.

      • Boom says:

Sounds like his HS coach is not a fan of OU or would still like him to go to UT

        • Jordan Esco says:

He’s a h.s. football coach in the state of TX who has a player committed to Texas. So, yeah, as you’ve suggested he just maybe has some incentive to maintain the company line, IMO.

      • Doobie74OU says:

I am not doubting TFB at all it just sucks when there are conflicting reports because then people (not TFB)just start guessing and it can get out of control. I trust you and your source!

  • Ryan says:

Not to be a negative Nancy but the kid wanted to be at UT over OU. Seems like a slap in the face. But I guess we can still take him…

    • rphokc says:

if I recall correctly, think his mother was hi on ou but he had numerous horn relatives in his ear………..he also seemed to revel in yanking the ou chain during recruiting

      • Daddy R says:

I imagine if he ends up at OU, that the players wont let him forget about that, until he proves himself that is.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Sounds like he has a high hill to climb to qualify for enrollment at Uterus. If he doesn’t make it, do we really stand a chance?

  • Daddy R says:

    98 days until football…

  • Brien Brown says:

Biases of being a OU fan, makes us want every kid that is out there to get. Lampkin would be a huge get no pun intended for our D for years to come, with what others have said, himself along with Gallimore and Overton would make us on paper look very strong at that position for years to come. Also to the note that Idk that you can have enough O-Line and D-Lineman. All I can hope for is a better season, and see some exciting football. I am excited to see the air raid come back, I am excited to see the run game, and see the new look D, cause I do think we will see some familiar faces but, we will also see a lot of new ones, on both sides of the ball, think this will be a fun year. Sorry for being absent been checking daily just been in and out of the hospital and schedule has been insane just haven’t had anything to add. Not sure this is much other then my 2 cents.

    • hOUligan says:

Good to see you back. Hope the issues requiring hospitalization are working themselves out favorably. Agree…am ALWAYS excited about Sooner football. A lot of new hires and a new frosh class = hope for #8 in the near future!!

      • Brien Brown says:

Thank you my friend. I am well taking my meds and doing what I am suppose to do. #* would be great since 8 is my lucky number, of course more than 8 is welcomed lol. So ready for the season, I’ve been watching an old game a day on YouTube to get my fix.

    • EasTex says:

Good to see your nic and avatar again.
Sure hate to hear you had to deal with an illness.
The Sooners have the cure for you in just over 3 months.

    • SamSooner says:

Welcome back. I hope all is well.

    • Boom says:

Cool, take care and get back in the mix.

  • John Garner says:

Maybe our luck that UT’s academic advisors didn’t fully educate Lampkin or the UT coaches on the language requirement. Of course, maybe they did and Lampkin wasn’t up to the challenge.

    • blaster1371 says:

Good to see a high school just doesn’t buckle under pressure and pencil whip his transcript.

    • Rene Goupillaud says:

Do you really think his high school coach, his high school counselor, and the UT coaches weren’t aware that he lacked the requirement. They don’t restate recruiting class rankings.

      • EasTex says:

It wasn’t so long ago that Metoyer’s high school counselor screwed him over when it came to his eligibility requirements being met.

  • OU_Sooners says:

Lampkin is supposedly clearing up his language requirement. There’s also rumor of another transfer on the offensive side of the ball– specifically in the wide receiver unit.

  • vaSooner says:

    Lampkin aint coming to OU..

  • j l says:

UT boards are being very dismissive of this because of the source. I guess thats no real surprise since its UT boards, but i didnt see the aggies being dismissive of the harvey rumor on their boards.

  • Stephen says:

Eh, I could live without Lampkin. I’m going all in on Gallimore being a stud.

    • JD says:

If we got him it would be a double whammy to texsa…they wouldn’t get him…they would have to play against him….we could always use the depth and rotate if we have the talent so living without something and living comfortably with it is two different things

    • Sooner 76 says:

I’d be very happy if we got him. He should be a good player on the DL, either at NT or at the 3-tech DT.

And yes, Gallimore will be a stud, but you need more than 1 stud on the DL. You have to rotate two units on the DL to keep them fresh.

      • Stephen says:

Not saying he’d be a bad player but I want the guy that wants to be on Owen Field, not a guy that’s having to settle with his second choice.

      • hOUligan says:

Don’t forget/sleep on ‘Que’. Kid has the physical skills AND he wanted to be a Sooner from the get go. Much happier to have him than Lampkin.

        • blaster1371 says:

Overton’s attitude and the fact he was a champion in wrestling just gives me the vibe he is going to be a hand full for any line,an to block. If I had to,pick between him and Lumpkin ID take Overton every time.

        • JD says:

I’m happy to have Que… I think will be the NT and while Lampkin and Gallimore can play 3i or SDE…either way I’m happy with both guys we got…and would be thrilled to add another capable guy

    • hOUligan says:

Agree. Just have to wonder about the effort yOU are going to receive from a kid who is settling for ‘2nd choice’.

      • Boom says:

One way to look at it. Another would be that he uses that as fuel to beat out the competition and show Texas what they missed out on. No kid who is competitive settles. They are always motivated to play at their highest level. Iron sharpens iron.

        • hOUligan says:

Iron sharpens iron … very true.. so would definitely hope that if he were to land at OU he would be thankful and maximize his talent and be the best he can be to represent for himself and OU. I like what Coach Bob says about concentrating on the kids that are ‘here’ and want to be Sooners, not who doesn’t.

          • JD says:

something else to consider is these guys dream of the nfl and if he’s the real deal will work his butt off to get there no matter where he is

      • SFenn3 says:

Depends how bad he wants to play in the NFL!!

      • lefty67 says:

Granted they were transfers & not moving on to # 2 straight out of H.S., but off the top of my head, I liked the effort that Justin Brown & Jalen Saunders gave us.

  • RocketCitySooner says:

    Did Trayveon Williams commit?

  • rphokc says:

for any nhler’s……..2 game 7’s ,,,,,,,,,rangers/bolts tonite and ducks/hawks sat nite……winners play for cup………both series have been tremendous to watch, hope the games live up……..lgr!

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • Stephen says:

    SEC distributes $435M in revenue.
Big 12 distributes $262M in revenue.

From what I understand, Texas will make significantly more than everyone, OU will make just a little bit more than the rest. That said, I don’t think the Big 12 overall looks pretty weak.

    • j l says:

That does not include big 12 3rd tier media rights, but it does include SEC 3rd tier media rights(aka the SEC network), so those values are a little skewed.

big 12 TV revenue is well over 300 mil when you add in 3rd tier.

      • Daddy R says:

The 300 mil is still lower than the PAC and BIG 10 though, I believe. Seems the big 12 would have benefited from a true conference network… Oh well.

        • j l says:

pac 12 brought in 374 million, but dont forget we have 4 less teams than everyone else.

Thats 26.7 million per team. Big 12 will be 30 million plus per team(OU is at 34 million per year with 3rd tier media rights included)

The problem is scaling. Everyone elses 3rd tier media rights revenue will scale with bigger subscriber bases, while ours are static.

We are doing great right now, but a conference network would have ensured scaling of our 3rd tier media rights.

        • ND52 says:

Let’s not forget the great disparity in number of TV sets and overall population between the power conferences.

We’ve got the state of Texas and……………….well thats about it.

  • Jeff says:

Thought Delance was still considering OU?????????????

  • FoShizzle says:

We lose another, becoming comical that we lose recruits to tcu, Baylor, tech, Judy st. Time for new blood in the program and Bob to move on. OU has become stale

    • JD says:

How do you know we didn’t let him go….if the laughing is too much for your lungs to bare then I suggest you go root for another team..Judy St is on the up and up

      • EasTex says:

Hope you had a dry day.

        • JD says:

dry afternoon…if we make it thru the weekend I might get some hay done before the next round (mid week) woot woot

          • EasTex says:

            You are South Central, right?
I went to bed just as a big storm hit here last night. I got up at about 7:30a.m., turned on the local news and couldn’t believe how much flooding there was here in Dallas. There is another storm headed right for us from the panhandle that should reach here after midnight. Don’t know where the water will go this time.

          • JD says:

Yeah i’m in the Ardmore area…flooding was worse today than yesterday…We’ve got 20 inches THIS MONTH…fortunately some fields are sandy and on higher ground that will dry out with a few days of sun

          • EasTex says:

We are right behind you at almost 17″.
They say it should really start to dry out Sunday and stay clear all week.
It doesn’t hurt me like it does you, but we will all be remembering fondly these nice cool, cloudy and wet days in about two months.

          • JD says:

Oh no doubt…the temp has been great…suppose to be a cool summer with this Double El Nino or Super El Nino..whatever this weather pattern is called…Yeah I think we have a good chance early morning then it should dry out by mid week…then we’ll have to see how the forecast goes…either way 98 days!!

          • EasTex says:

Yessir, and God Bless Mrs. Selmon!

          • EasTex says:

My ‘ol stompin’ grounds’ and still have family there. Seems to be really spotty down there as my uncle says Hickory Creek isn’t even up into the pecan bottom. Was shocked when he told me that. Anyway…prayers for all of ya’ll and my family in Tejas. Rough ride.

          • JD says:

Wow… surprised Hickory hasn’t reached the pecans…I guess the Arbuckles make Caddo and the Washita take water faster to get over the banks because south of town and into Love country has got more rain than west of 35 (not by much)…we went well over 20 inches for the month and had a pretty good shower this morning that lasted about 3 hours

    • EasTex says:

      I find you comical.
You have made six comments here all calling for Bob Stoops to leave or casting aspersions on him. As if your one note drum beat isn’t funny enough, you have received 3 upvotes…all of them made by you. ROTFLMAO!!!!

    • boomersooner says:

Haha. You like your own posts. That’s cute. Castor? Are you back? Is that you Bubba?

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I have an idea of who should move on…

  • EasTex says:

We may or may not have missed out on Williams, we’ll see if he actually signs.
In the meanwhile, there are still some excellent RBs out there if the coaches will shake the trees. I’m fearful that Baylor will get their claws into this young man when they camp at his high school, the same high school I and Baylor’s DC attended in Marshall.
His name is Chavis Mills, 5’7″ 180lbs 4.42 in the 40. He got his first taste as the starting RB last year when the 5’8″ 212lb starting RB was injured and he never got the job back. Coach Harper is expecting Mills to be a 1500-2000 yard rusher in 2015.

    • JD says:

      Looks perfect for our offense

      • EasTex says:

        Very similar offense.

      • EasTex says:

I should add most of the teams in the video are quality programs, such as Sulphur Springs, Longview, Texarkana High, Shreveport Parkway, Nacogdoches and Dallas South Oak Cliff.

        • Boom says:

Good stuff and seems Riley likes these types. Hope TFB takes a look at his film and provides some exposure for him.

          • EasTex says:

The Marshall program was down for a couple of years and has made huge strides under the new coaching staff in two years. Lots of talent in small schools all over the state that don’t get any/much exposure and often these kids families don’t have the resources to send them to camps.
The kid that had been the starting RB is #1 in the video and is talented also, but doesn’t have the elusiveness or speed as Mills just more power.

          • Boom says:

Curious to see if or how Riley uses Brooks this year. Brooks kinda fits his offense. Brooks reminds me of the switch up back like Finch.

          • EasTex says:

With the loss of Ford I think Brooks getting playing time is almost guaranteed. I like Brooks and can see him getting carries and tosses. What we don’t know is how can he block, his ball security seemed solid.

          • Boom says:

Agree on Brooks. I went through the roster best I could and it looks like we have 80 kids on scholly. Maybe 81 if we get the CB from ATM. If Lampkin were to make it in, we would have 3 left. Out of those, I would really like to see the DE from NEO make it to Norman this summer.

          • EasTex says:

I like who we have and really, really like the incoming class. I will wait and see if any other quality players are added.
The two areas that I believe must show up this year are the O-line and the D secondary.
QB is unsettled, but I believe with this offense and a strong supporting cast whoever it is can excel, they just need to be consistent and protect the ball.

          • Boom says:

Agreed. Center & guards should be solid but hope the OT’s step up. With Cooks & their experience, the secondary should be better. S is what concerns me.
QB is lucky due to our elite RBs. We will be fine there, maybe not great but it seems you don’t have to be a great QB to excel in this offense.

          • EasTex says:

I’m looking forward to the season. This will be my 59th year following the adventures of Sooner football and I am just excited now as I was during the 47-0 run.

          • Boom says:

My first game was OU’s bowl game against Tennessee in 68 I think. I was 7 and remember I didn’t leave the TV. Been watching since and I’m excited about the possibilities of this season. My hope is they will gain confidence as a team each game and by then end are playing with supreme confidence in themselves and their teammates.

          • SamSooner says:

I watched my first televised game in ’74. I can’t remember the opponent but I was hooked. My brother was stationed in Fort Sill. He came home on leave and told the rest of us about OU.

I live in Ohio, now. Regional coverage is B1G football, mostly. Between all of the channels, I manage to catch most of the games, with the exception of the games on PPV. I take extreme pleasure in every game I see.

          • EasTex says:

The first time I actually saw the Sooners on TV was in ’58, when the announcers made a big whoop-dee-doo about the match up between the mentor Wilkinson and his pupil Royal. That is when my hatred of the wHorns and their “diaper surprise” orange began.
I had listened to the Bud Wilkinson show and Sooner football on the radio beginning in ’55.

          • EasTex says:

I posted this a few days ago, an archived piece concerning the 2000 team.

Good morning, sir. How’s your day taking shape?

          • EasTex says:

And a good morning to you.
All is good, now that the rain has stopped for what they promise will be the full week.
Just ran errands and got my groceries so I don’t need to leave the house for a while. I’ll be having my buttermilk pancakes with blueberries Sunday morning.

          • SamSooner says:

I haven’t had “buttermilk” pancakes in a long time. I remember my Mom’s flapjacks. Can’t get them like that anymore.

Do you have a recipe you can share?

          • EasTex says:

Yessir, the one I have used for years.
            http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/instant-pancake-mix-recipe.html#lightbox-recipe-video
I couldn’t get the videos to play, maybe you can. The full episode is available for $1.99 on utube, it’s called “Flap Jack You Can.”
Here is a video clip to help.
            https://youtu.be/NmTNDNZB958
Follow his advice, don’t mix for more than 10 seconds. If you do the pancakes will be tough, if you don’t they will be very light and fluffy. Many people overmix and I can spot it instantly, especially with pancakes and biscuits.
Also note the “Ingredients” is for a full batch, while the “Instant” pancakes part of the recipe calls for 1/3rd of the full batch. You can mix the full batch if you triple the “Instant” part. He also recommends separating the eggs for the wet ingredients and mixing the egg whites with the buttermilk, the yolks with the melted butter. It helps fool the buttermilk into accepting the fat from the yolks into the buttermilk.
I use a big griddle and drop fresh blueberies onto the batter after the pour so they can sink in, then I dust them with ground cinnamon. When you flip them the blueberries get nice and bubbly.
I serve them with oven fried bacon.

          • SamSooner says:

EasTex, thank you, sir. I was able to get the video to play. I must say, I’m an over mixer. I will adjust my preparation by blending my dry ingredients ahead of time.

We might have pancakes for breakfast in the morning.

You enjoy the rest of your day.

          • EasTex says:

            I will.
Same for you and your young family.

          • SamSooner says:

What do you mean by oven fried bacon? Is it what it sounds like?

          • EasTex says:

            Yessir, exactly what I said.
Take a baking sheet and cover it will aluminium foil. Lay the bacon on the sheet and place it in a cold oven. Turn the oven to bake at 350-360. In about 20 minutes you have perfectly brown and crispy bacon that doesn’t curl up.
I take it out of the grease and put it on paper towels.
Let the grease on the baking sheet to cool and congeal, pull the foil off with the grease and toss it…easy cleanup and the best fried bacon you ever had.

          • hOUligan says:

Wife taught me the same trick a few years back and we don’t even bother covering the baking tray…no spatter. Perfect bacon with no mess in about 20 minutes every time!!!

          • EasTex says:

It’s the way to go. Perfect bacon and no mess.

    • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

      meh…

    • ColoradoSooner says:

Me likey. Send him the signing papers.

      • EasTex says:

I’m worried Baylor will offer him next Saturday when they camp at his high school.
He is much like the RB they have now, Linwood, who was unknown and came from an even smaller East Texas school.
The diamonds in the rough are quite often the over achievers that help teams win.

for any nhler’s……..2 game 7’s…….rangers/bolts tonite and ducks/hawks sat nite……winners play for cup………both series have been tremendous to watch, hope the games live up……..lgr!
edit…..congrats to the bolts for making the finals. They eliminated the top 2 seeds, my blueshirts tonite and the canadiens before………..they are deserving of advancing. Thoroughly enjoyed the ranger run this yr and love the playoffs. Now a spectator hoping for an exciting 7 gm final……….noticed a few ranger fans on here…….LGR!!

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Good run for the Rangers. Their series against the Capitals last round was awesome. With that said, I’m impressed with the Bolts; for a young team they’ve really bounced back well all season.

      • rphokc says:

yeah, when the final 4 was determined, thought the best 2 were out west and the cup winner would be the one to take that series. However, the bolts shouldn’t be underestimated. Experience on the stage might hurt them if matched with the hawks esp, but they’re very dangerous on o………several players who can light you up and they can all fly…….give them a pplay at your peril. Just a spectator now hoping for a classic. Geez, just a few games left then it’s a few days of hockey withdrawal to deal with after the nighty fun over the last 2 months. …………….lgr

re the rb williams to tcu………just curious if he was the first stab at landing a rb by boulware as the rb coach

    • John Garner says:

Don’t think that Williams to TCU can be considered a Boulware failure. That was expected. From all I have read the push is for Whaley.

      • Tucker says:

        Yep

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

It would be wise of you to learn that every player is an OU lean and when OU doesn’t get some player it’s a loss and a failure of the OU coaches. It doesn’t matter if a player has sugar plums in the shape of horned frogs dancing in his head, an OU coach should be fired.

Pretty cool pic so I thought I’d share. Lifelong Packer fan (born in Milwaukee) getting my daily fix and noticed this one of Ripkowski taking a hand off from the Aaron Rodgers. I am so pumped my boys drafted him and they have made it pretty clear so long as he handles his business (which he will) he will take over for John Kuhn as the teams FB in the near future. FB is a dying position but not in GB where they use one often. Just thought it was great to see one of OUr own taking reps with the best QB in the league…IMO of course. Too cool.

Oh yeah, Coach Montgomery is making waves too and is going to make a name for himself in GB. Sounds like they are breeding him to take over for Capers once he hangs it up. Great time to be both a die-hard Sooner and Packer fan! Boomer and Go Pack Go!

    • SamSooner says:

Good news. I’m hoping that Monte gets tons of experience because I’d like him to be OU’s next head coach.

      • hOUligan says:

I’d certainly abide it…but early returns on “Hot Rod” Riley and how he has handled himself and how ‘well spoken’ he is might make him a contender some day, as well.

Big Packer fan here! Thanks for the post!

      • jonnyBgood says:

Tucker: Not sure if you are in OK but I love how there are so many Packer supporters in this state. Before I had my kiddo I used to go to the Packer Backers on Sundays in the bar at the Marriott Southern Hills and loved it! Packer fans are some of the best fans in the world and I think just about anyone would agree. Hell, former Sooner standout Darnell Walker just started working with me the other day (super cool dude) and he talked about how impressed he was with Packer fans when he used to go to Lambeau while in the league. Gotta admit I was like a kid in a candy store having him in my office rapping about his days at OU and in the league. I just thought it was cool how he bragged on the Packer fans while it was in no way solicited.

      • jonnyBgood says:

I argued with some on this site about his role with the Pack. Many said he would be fetching lunch and breaking tape. Nope. Capers hand picked him to be his “right hand man.” If a highly thought of NFL DC hand picks you to be his understudy you are making waves in my books. They didn’t bring him there to make sure the mayo is left off the burgers. They brought him there to grow in the program and utilize his coaching/people skills. He will make a name for himself in GB so long as he performs…which he will.

Big Packer fan as well and was just talking about this last night. Packers got a big steal.

  • Stephen says:

Not directly OU related but notable, at least in my opinion, Houston HC Tom Herman (former Ohio State OC) and his staff are killing the recruiting trail lately. Not sure how they are making UofH so much more appealing than OU.

    • hOUligan says:

Unfortunately, Jordo, there have not been many we have liked, lately. Fortunately, we aren’t into shooting the messenger. ; ) The sun is going to shine on us, again, some day. Maybe just not this day.

  • KOKEVO says:

    Recruiting is depressing at times.

    • hOUligan says:

When you figure we ‘get’ about 10-15% of the total offers that are extended, it leaves a lot of room for ‘disappointment’. I just know we are gonna get some gooduns, though.

    • JD says:

Even if Lampkin doesn’t come here and a kid commits to the ags…today is a good day since texsa has no DTs coming in hahahah

  • Andy Sundborg says:

Roh roh but but I thought according to Longhorn fans there was nothing to see here! Lol

    I love recruiting.

    update added

  • JD says:

It looks like 247 should “waste” their time and read TFB lol….good one Guys!!

“Based on where that report is coming from I’m personally not going to waste my time reading it. -247Sports Staff”

    • John Garner says:

Yeah, just saw a post at OUInsider giving credit to TFB for the “good news”. Personally I think 247 Sports gives themselves too much credit. They’re not as good as they think.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

With losing out on recruits to Baylor, Tcu, A&M and only having four commits I would certainly feel a lot better reeling in one or two big fish ie Caleb Kelly, Dontavious Jackson. Getting Lampkins sloppy seconds doesn’t do a lot for me at this point. I know we always close strong but when Houston is kicking our tails in recruiting I think it’s time to start closing some of these kids.

  • Tucker says:

Welp… I’m officially sad. I work with a guy whose kid plays with Jackson. He heard TAMU last week. Tried to not be surprised but still sucks.

  • JD says:

Texsa saying they haven’t released Du’Vonta to attend other schools lol

    • Stephen says:

Is he theirs to release? I thought the stipulations made his LOI null and void.

    • Borba22 says:

Apparently Du’Vonta and his family is in Austin right now talking to Strong about the situation. If he didn’t qualify, they have no choice but to release him.

    • RBear says:

Never understood how a kid who never enrolled or attended classes AND didn’t qualify would ever need a release.

  • Borba22 says:

So did he qualify or not? A lot of OU and Texas talking heads saying Texas doesn’t plan on releasing him, which if is the case, then he did indeed qualify and won’t be able to come to OU at all.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Nobody knows. If they tell you otherwise (right now), they’re lying.

    • JD says:

If he didn’t qualify then the texas talking heads don’t know what they’re talking about…if he did qualify he would be going there per his tweet out and talking about “obstacles”

      • Borba22 says:

Well, those Texas talking heads didn’t know what they were talking about yesterday.. So that would be my guess.

        • JD says:

Now we’ll be in limbo until he is enrolled here (if it happens)…I just don’t see how Vince Young qualified and he won’t…wouldn’t put it past them to get him qualified

          • Borba22 says:

The story out there is that he’s missing a Foreign Language credit, and Max Olson reported yesterday he was currently taking that course right now. If that’s actually the case, then Lampkin might have just decided to stop taking that course in order to get out of his LOI.

          • JD says:

Yeah..no telling the whole story..just know he apparently doesn’t have a foreign language credit for hs and that is required at UT…and the waiting begins…should be too long a wait

          • JD says:

            See what I mean

@AnwarRichardson: UT hasn’t denied #HookEm DT Du’Vonta Lampkin entrance into its school. #Longhorns still working with him, which means LOI still stands 4 now

          • rphokc says:

        • SamSooner says:

That spells C.O.D. In basketball he’d be known as a fish because he’s always taking the bait.

  • Mustvid says:

So, where does Lampkin fit in this scheme? I’m not sure what scheme we are running but to me he is a zero in the 3-4 and a 1 or 3 in the 4-3.

    • EasTex says:

If the coaches want him, I say get him on campus and figure they know how they want to use him.

    • Bob Edwards says:

      He’s a 7 in our 3-1-7

    • William Ryan says:

He will the play the same position as Charles walker depending on the front

    • JD says:

What I like about him and def Gallimore is I think they move good enough to play all 3 DL positions (I’m not counting the stand up Striker position)..Our DL should be stout for the years ahead

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Need a big Boom this week.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Throwing something out there. Did Texas and TAM out recruit OU in 2015, and if so, how much is it due to those schools having an African-American headman? For those who are on top of recruiting, is there any correlation?

    • JD says:

ATM came in at 10 with the first Black head coach…texsa was 12..and we were 14…color of coach has no correlation for those that like to read statistics

    • Stephen says:

Definitely heard this debate before and I could definitely see either side of the argument.

    • EasTex says:

According to the rankings they both did.
      http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/teamrank/2015/all/all
Looking into the numbers, though, the OU class had a higher per player rating of 3.58, trailing only seven schools.
*EDIT* Meant to add that the seven schools with higher rated classes than OU had White head coaches. Personally, I don’t think it matters what the pigmentation of a coach is.

    • SamSooner says:

D, c’mon man. You know better than that.

Every A.D. in the country would have a black head coach if that were the case. That alone should tell you that’s not why.

If black players wanted to play for black head coaches they would be attending historical black universities.

Let’s leave race out of this.

      • EasTex says:

Give me merit or give me death.

      • blaster1371 says:

I thought it was a legit question. It was even brought up by TFB when speculating about replacement coaches for the assistant coaching vacancies.

        • rphokc says:

sometimes ?’s have to be approved by mall security

        • SoonerfanTU says:

There is a difference between having a white vs black head coach, and wanting some racial diversity on the staff as a whole.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Well Texas generally had higher ranked recruiting classes than us under Mack Brown and he was black. Oh wait.

    • Zack says:

It is something worth discussing but in college football and in college basketball, lots of young black athletes will play for old white men. Just saying. In football you got Meyer, saban, miles, stoops and Carroll when he was at sc.
In basketball you have the same thing.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

For what it’s worth Lampkin is saying he has a qualifying gpa & sat score.. So grades aren’t the issue.. A credit could still be the problem though…

    • JD says:

It’s the foreign language and he’s not willing to risk not passing it this summer and having to go the juco route if he doesn’t pass it

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

So, then he’s free & clear since UT can’t qualify him without that credit?

        • blaster1371 says:

TFB said something about Texass and the NCAA having to approve this but I disagree. Rememebr that DT that signed with Notre Dame then went to UCLA a few years back? This case is very much like that one except that kid had a “hardship” and Lampkin simply did not qualify. Since he never enrolled at the university nor attended any practices I think texass has nothing to do with releasing him.

        • Fear The Magic says:

I think at this point Im conditioned to be pesimistic when it comes to OU and these types of situations. In other words I’ll believe it if and when hes wearing a Crimson and cream uni.

          • blaster1371 says:

For me, that’s the case even for those signees that profess to be all in with OU and even sign the letter. Until I see them enrolled and on the practice field I cannot count them as a sure thing (on the team).

        • Daddy R says:

He should be free and clear. If a student does not qualify to enroll in fall, the NLI is null and void. If he doesnt take his foreign language this summer, he wont qualify for UT. They require that you have the credits before you are eligible to enroll. At OU, he’ll be able to take them along with his regular course load his first two semesters.

        • JD says:

He should be…knowing texas they will try something to screw up his life now that he doesn’t want to risk juco for the sake of the horn

      • blaster1371 says:

That’s what I am thinking. This last minute scholar athlete shuffle could very well leave him without a chair when the music stops. OU was his first choice, then he got sweet on texass so this should be a no-brainer for him.

    • ccmosaic says:

His problem is, he does not meet the requirements for UT when it comes to foreign language. His grades have never been an issue.

  • JD says:

If someone told me we were losing our 4th string qb but filling the spot with a high ranked hs DT then I would buy a round

    • Boom says:

Why look on the bright side? : )

    • Stephen says:

He’s not too highly ranked, ranked 348th overall.

      • ccmosaic says:

Well, aren’t you just a party pooper. You do know you meet the definition of a troll right? You seem way too old to be online and a troll. I always thought of old people as nice and positive but you have shown me wrong. Bye troll.

        • Stephen says:

Ok? I’m only 23 and have been reading this site for nearly two years now. I’ve seen the trolls come and go with no basis to their arguments. I simply looked up his overall rating, sorry for having facts and being a realist, troll.

        • EasTex says:

          CHECK FIRE—CHECK FIRE!!!
          FRIENDLY!!!

      • JD says:

Here’s the deal…he’s a 4star DT and top 25 DT in the country…imo that is highly ranked…DT is also a harder position to recruit since big boys that move the way he and other highly ranked DTs do are hard to find…

        • EasTex says:

Going by Rivals he was a 3 star, but his score was just short of that 4* rating.
          http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-DuVonta-Lampkin-144424
I don’t think the number of stars matter that much and based on his video he certainly shows he can compete at a high level.
If he’s available and the coaches want him I say come on up. Can’t have enough quality linemen on either side of the ball.

          • JD says:

I prefer to see the film…quality of opponent…and offer sheet…I just chose scout because they had him at 4

        • Stephen says:

I’m not saying he isn’t talented. I think he has the power and decent speed to go along with it. Rating wise he isn’t up there, there’s really no debating that but also don’t think rating reflects talent or a ceiling in most cases. I’d take him just because he’s chasing down guys from the back side alone, cant coach that. On the other hand he tends to stand up a little bit which may explain his rating but that’s easily correctable. So I agree with you on talent but I disagree with many thinking he was highly sought after 4 or 5* recruit.

So I hope that clears up some misunderstanding.

          • JD says:

Yes we can debate his rating…Rating wise he’s prob the second rated DT that would be on our roster with Gallimore being the highest….I went with 4star because he was rated that by scout…and a top 25 DT…I haven’t seen anybody say or think he’s a 5 star recruit….a better measure would be his offers and his film…LSU ND UT and OU among others desired his services

          • EasTex says:

I always go to Rivals and they had both Gallimore and Overton rated higher than Lampkin. Still, he is more than welcome in my book.

          • JD says:

DTs are just harder to get…most big boys like to stay close to home…I absolutely love Gallimore and Que’s film…Lampkin’s senior film was also pretty impressive (against texas 5a competition as well)

      • John Garner says:

It’s simple really. If the coaches want him, then he’s highly ranked.

  • blaster1371 says:

I think the shine will be completely worn off Texass A & M if they don’t stay in the hunt for the SEC west title. Sumlin is obviously a very good closer when its comes to recruiting but he also comes across as somewhat of a peacock. They might have as the kids say “swag” but its rather hollow if their are no championships to back it up.

  • blaster1371 says:

I know OU will run multiple defensive fronts/linebacker combinations, BUT….. I will be glad to see OU put two legit DTs on the line at the same time. Tapper needs to get back to his sophomore year weight and play the traditional DE position.

  • Zack says:

Made the top 20 or so for dontavious Jackson. Would be nice if he and kelly do team up and end up at OU but I won’t bet on that right now.

    • Stephen says:

I don’t think either have plans to announce a commitment anytime soon. Would be nice, though.

    • KOKEVO says:

What makes you feel like we have a chance to get either of them? Recruiting has been slipping as of late. I can’t feel confident about landing any top recruit right now.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Blackhawk fans should be starting to feel pretty good about now…

  • William Ryan says:

With the addition of lampkin this will shape out to be one of the best defensive line class in years!

  • Zack says:

Sounds like all the incoming freshmen are moving in this week. So far today I see que, seibert and Sunderland are moving in.

    • EasTex says:

      Now is the time.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing this class on campus.

On another note, I saw a tweet last night that said Heritage Hall QB Connor McGinnis had walked on at OU and was enrolled. I may have missed it some how, but that was news to me. I checked his Rival page and he didn’t show one offer which really surprised me. I remember him being mentioned at TFB months ago and his highlight video looked good.

    • rphokc says:

if seibert can duplicate his kicking competition/youtube skills to the real pressure in packed football arenas, he will be one of the best weapons we have

      • EasTex says:

The young man can kick that ball and I liked his moxy in mocking the wHorn fans.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Always a little tension until they actually get on campus.

      • Zack says:

Well and the tough part is knowing there’s a good chance one or two guys may not make it. Glad to see que make it.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Yeah, it seems like every year there is some drama with a couple of them not making grades, missing a required class, etc, But knowing 18 yr old males its not surprising that one or two out of 20+ manage to screw things up for themselves. Heck out of my five, three of them managed to do it.

    • Sooner 76 says:

  • Sooner 4Ever says:

I’m really curious to see Overton and Galimore’s weight when they get an official weigh in at OU. Both are big boys and I’ve seen so many different listed weights for each. I just wonder what they really weigh when they step on that scale for Schmitty the first time and then what they weigh at the start of camp.

  • Jason Vos says:

    Overton, Gallimore, Lampkin oh my

    • William Ryan says:

      Don’t forget about Campbell

      • Zack says:

I think Mann will end up being like Grissom and depending on how we decide to use our front 7 he may be a stand up OLB or de

        • William Ryan says:

He’s a big kid and was recruited to play the 4i in the 34 defence that’s why we recruited guys like deberry, obo, and bond to play play the stand up DE

          • Zack says:

I know he’s recruited to play the 4i but he dropped down to 238 back before signing day and played basketball. I would bet he comes in at about 230-235 so that’s why I wonder if he can play olb as opposed to a hand in the ground de.

  • Sooner Ray says:

I would welcome Lampkin for the depth if nothing else but it seems unclear at the moment whether or not he is a free agent or if he is tied to his LOI at this time.

    • JD says:

Im wondering if he enrolled to take the spanish courses at UT…if so he might need released…ah the drama

      • Sooner Ray says:

That’s my concern, did he sign anything agreeing to take qualifying courses at UT and how will the NCAA view that.

        • JD says:

inquiring minds want to know lol

        • Daddy R says:

I do know that even if he did enroll somewhere to take his Foreign language, students have so many days to where they can still drop the class and have it not affect there transcript, just like they never enrolled in it…

    • Tucker says:

Thing I am most curious about is how will he be accepted into the team after choosing OU second to Texas.

  • blaster1371 says:

I am really happy for Que Overton. I hope that kid turns out to be Tommy Harris 2.0.

    • Stephen says:

I think we all wish for that!

    • John Garner says:

Or Kelly Gregg. Understand that both were champion wrestlers.

    • EasTex says:

I not only like his athletic ability, I am very fond of the determination and enthusiasm he has exhibited. I think he will not only be a great football player, but a great leader on the defense.

    • William Ryan says:

      I see Kelly Gregg 2.0!

  • KOKEVO says:

    Tyler brown to tcu.

    • John Garner says:

I must plead ignorance. Is he the QB from Tulsa?

      • EasTex says:

        I say “who’dat.”

        • John Garner says:

I don’t know as well. For some reason I’m thinking he’s the QB from Tulsa I read about here. I’m probably wrong about.

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

Big OL from Lexington, OK. We’ve been slow playing him but staying in touch. Looks like he’s tired of waiting on that OU offer.

        • John Garner says:

Thanks. Sorry to see homegrown talent go to TCU but I have to admit, the coaches there will know how to coach him up. They sure did with Dierson. I think that’s the name of the Oklahoma DT who plays for them and is projected to be an All-Big 12 performer.

        • Zack says:

I’m getting tired of us slow playing our in state guys. If him and Frederick are as good as tcu level offers then they’re good enough for OU offers. And OU dragging their feet with draper is just idiotic. If he gets that bama offer first then I would say huge mistake.
with draper I’m sure it’s a matter of not worrying about the 2017 lb class until all the big boys are off the 2016 board.

    • hOUligan says:

I cannot say how disappointed I am in this. On the one hand it makes you want to believe OU has a great deal of confidence that they have more than enough OL significantly better than Brown who are all but committed and there just is not room. But somehow I see us scrambling in Nov-Dec and making a late offer on guys like Tyler. OK kids who would have given anything and everything to be courted by OU but have no relationship or confidence in the staff after being snubbed for a year.

  • John Garner says:

Just saw that there’s 527 comments at this Open Post. A lot more than what you see at the paysites. I mention it only because not only is TFB free, but there’s a lot more discussion going on here. I really enjoy that.

    • EasTex says:

      No biting, no fighting.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I think all the hate comment’s on other site’s ABOUT TFB should count towards the total since they were inspired by TFB success. 🙂

      • John Garner says:

LOL. Yeah, I saw a lot of that when I was at OUI. Besides the bickering over “sunshine pumping”, the Bolts, and the fluff, it was one of the reasons I left.

      • Daryl says:

So I have never paid for site services. I would love to know what other sites are saying about TFB. Lee should have a top 5 comments about brainiacs post every month. This site is doing a great job especially for free. So pumped I found this place

        • ccmosaic says:

For some reason many of the people who pay for their info feel obligated to tear down TFB. They never have any real ammunition only blind faith that the pay site they are part of is the best. It is almost like and OU OSU relationship. Rivals and others see TFB as the little brother that is taking money from their cash cow. The members of the cash cow seem to believe they must stand up for said cash cow. It is rather funny if you ask me. On one site I am a member of many of the members will bash anyone who mentions TFB.
The problem is TFB gets the information first most of the time and this really angers the members of the other sites.

        • hOUligan says:

I post on the Scout board, which has some good info and good guys but also it’s share of guys who feel the need to bash anyone whose opinion differs from theirs, but I have come to prefer TFB for the obvious reasons; better content, better discussion and far less bickering/bashing. A couple of top Scout posters are also on here and post TFB info as quickly as it is posted here and it is well accepted by the Scout admin and other posters.

    From Dr Saturday.. r.e. Lampkin…

Texas signee Du’Vonta Lampkin won’t enroll, looking elsewhere. http://t.co/cvHW8qP3wF http://t.co/uimiYKcQfF

    • Daddy R says:

This quote from the article pretty much sums up all of our discussion this weekend on here, lol….

“Texas has a foreign language requirement Lampkin hasn’t met – in this case Spanish – that other schools don’t have.

Lampkin said he would’ve had the chance to fully meet that requirement in summer school and then enroll in August. However, citing previous experience, Lampkin said he didn’t want to risk failing to meet the requirement in the summer and subsequently have to enroll at a junior college.

“If I take that summer school class now for Spanish and it doesn’t go well, then I end up in a junior college,” he said. “That’s not the route I really want to take.”

Lampkin said he has his sights set on Oklahoma – where he originally verbally committed before making the switch to the Longhorns.”

“If anything, I may land at Oklahoma,” Lampkin said. “I’m very comfortable with their coaching staff. So, as soon as everything dials down, I’m going to contract (Bob) Stoops and see if they have any scholarships available for me.”

Absolutley one of my ATFs. His saying was he liked getting ‘up into their mustache’…and he did.

Is it just me, or did players back in the day look 20-30 years older than they really were?

  • OUzaudioman says:

No Dalton Wood I hear. Any chance that Dalton decides not to play for the Sooners?
This would be a huge shame.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Not all signees are enrolling in summer school.. Are you suggesting that he was supposed to & something is keeping him from it..?

      • OUzaudioman says:

The coaches were told by Dalton that he would be here for Summer workouts. He now is having second thoughts about playing football anymore. This might just be temporary cold feet but there is concern.

How do we keep finding players that decide before enrolling they don’t want to play football anymore?
