– Mark Jackson: This past weekend 2016 OLB/DE Mark Jackson (Cibolo, TX) was in Austin for an unofficial visit, the first he was able to take with is mother. We had a chance to catch up with him shortly after said visit to see where things currently stand.
Jackson said he enjoyed his time in Austin and that his mother seeing the school and meeting the coaches did help Texas’ chances. You may recall a couple weeks ago Jackson told us he hoped to announce his decision early this summer, and when we spoke he reiterated that is still the plan. He plans to decide between Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M in the next few weeks.
We asked what, if any, remaining trips he still might take prior to his decision and Jackson said he has plans to visit College Station again prior to making his announcement. But before you read too much into things, Jackson also shared with us he already has plans for a trip to Norman after his commitment.
Honestly, I wasn’t exactly sure how to read that but it’s hard not to take it as something of a positive for the Sooners. I mean why make a decision to visit a school after your commitment if you didn’t feel there was at least a strong possibility they’d be the choice. But, admittedly, that could just be me reading too much into things.
You may recall Jackson did visit OU last year, for the Baylor game, and said at the time even though the game didn’t go well for the Sooners, he still loved the visit. You may also remember us telling you a while back that Bob Stoops has been personally involved in Jackson’s recruitment. If OU can land Jackson, this would certainly a big initial splash for Diron Reynolds. – (Super K)
– Austin Roberts: I recently spoke to a source close to 2015 NEO defensive end Austin Roberts. Who, for those of you not already familiar, is a 6’6″ 265-pound defensive monster originally from Georgia. Although they are not necessarily publicized, I was told that Roberts holds offers from all schools over the country, including his home state school. However it would appear there are some SEC guidelines in place that would prevent him from being able to enroll this summer and play in the fall. Thus, it’s unlikely he will consider signing with any SEC schools.
We’ve been told OU and Nebraska are the two schools he is seriously considering as it stands today.
Roberts certainly looks to be an impressive talent. Frankly, there really isn’t much more to say. As long as he can learn his defensive assignments quickly, I will be shocked if he doesn’t have an instant impact wherever he goes. In my opinion, he absolutely has the size, athleticism & instincts of a first round defensive lineman. He looks comfortable playing multiple techniques, standing up, or with his hand in the dirt. If the Sooners and Huskers are indeed the schools he will choose from, one of those programs is going to get what appears to be, at least on film, a difference maker. – (Super K)
– Chris Brown: Oklahoma offered 2016 DB Chris Brown (5’11” 190 – Houston, TX) yesterday, who is a teammate of another 2016 OU offer, LB Dontavious Jackson. – (Super K)
– A.J. Green: Oklahoma also offered 2016 DB A.J. Green (6’1″ 170 – Desoto, TX) yesterday as well. Alex caught up with Green after the offer, who said he was very excited and that the Sooners offering definitely ‘shook up his recruiting.’ Green told Alex that he plans on making it up to Norman in the next few weeks. – (Alex & Super K)
– Keir Thomas: Yet another OU offer extended yesterday went out to 2016 DE Keir Thomas (6’1″ 245 – Miami, FL). We haven’t really had a chance to reach out just yet, but given that Thomas hails from the Sunshine State and is already committed to Florida State….we’re not expecting much here in the way of news. But maybe we’ll be surprised. – (TFB)

First Post! BOOM I like Jackson a lot. Close that deal. Also with Roberts how much chance do we have since we are pretty full at DE this year? What year would he be when he arrives at a school?
His a late 2015 enrollee, so he’d be in later this summer, shortly before the season. And fwiw, IMO, I don’t see OU really being all that deep at DE right now.
If you’re going by the current roster, they only have eight DEs listed right now. Which isn’t a small number per se but aside from Tapper & Dimon, all the other guys listed are either freshman or have never really contributed to date.
Granted, they could pretty easily bump C.Walker at to DE at times, but I just don’t see a plethora of real impact guys at DE right now.
I can’t tell you Roberts will be that type of player, be it in his first year or even ever, but if you think he has the chance to be and have room to take him, why not?
Great points Jordan. I was thinking with the thought of Walker Ward and OBO being at DE which I just felt like for a juco guy might make us seem crowded. But I agree if you think he is that good then you take him.
You make a good point. I still, for whatever reason, struggle to consider guys like Striker, Obo & Bond as “DEs” even though that’s essentially what they are for OU.
So I definitely see where you were coming from now.
Terminology, but bottom line is they are stand up OLB’s called DE’s like the old 50 defenses.
Obo? Isn’t he at the OLB position? Wouldn’t he be a little small for the DE position in a 3/4 alignment.
In a 3/4 yes but they have said they will play 4 man front some and so guys like Obo are not undersized at that point in my opinion.
Could a college only offer an athlete who comes to campus first as their policy?
If you’re really interested it wouldn’t be an issue.
Could they? Sure.
Would they? Pretty unlikely.
When TFB brought Austin Roberts to our attention, I wanted him & the LB to have a scolly asap. Roberts needs to be with OU. Per the OU site, this is our DE line up. Monty got some young talent but there is no experience.
Gabriel Campbell & Kenneth Mann Incoming FR
Dwayne Orso RS FR – Not sure he is a true DE
DJ Ward RS Soph
Matt Dimon JR
Isaac Ijalana RS Soph – 1st time DE
Charles Tapper SR
OLBer/Standup DE – Striker, Bond, Obo, DeBerry
3-tech DT – Walker, Orso, Gallimore, Campbell?
NT – Romar, Wade, Garnet, Overton
SDE – Tapper, Dimon, DJ Ward, Ijalana, Mann
When they move to the 3-4, then the 3-tech DT becomes a DE, with Striker and Bond or Obo as the OLBers.
I dont know about Campbell playing inside, he is really all of 6’6″ and MAYBE 250-260 or less. Gallimore is massive, Overton looks like he could use about 10-15 more lbs to hold the middle.
That’s the reason for the question mark. Also Gallimore could play either at the 3 tech or at SDE. We have some flexibility with some of the players.
Better way to view it and I agree. DJ is around 255 so interested to see if he can man the SDE. Ijalana is a wild card & hope he finds his niche. Both Campbell and Mann are tall guys & from what I’ve heard, they are around the 270lb range now. Thanks 76.
You are welcome, my friend.
Don’t know Mark Jackson but if he is someone considered a ‘high character’ individual, then you could read that convo to mean he will be committing to OU then visiting. It just doesn’t seem to be a ‘character move’ to commit to one school and almost immediately visit another or why ‘commit’? Take all of your visits, consider them fully, then commit. Seems straightforward enough. Otherwise, ain’t nobody gone be pleased.
I read it the same way
or he could have a lady or bros at OU he wants to visit
Very true…could be heading up to Norman to visit friends…I don’t want to play ball at your school but I do have some friends there I’d like to see…and just wanted to get that out there to a known recruiting blogger for an OU site. Absolutely could be the case.
Or he could just cancel the trip.
Any word on the Jenks corner that TFB had in the OP earlier this week?
In terms of….?
Curious if an offer might be on the horizon. Thants all.
Alex reported that Stanford dropped in to see him yesterday.
I thought M. Stoops was going to see him yesterday as well. That’s why I was asking.
Right. Was just throwing in that extra tidbit for you. I’m with you though, curious how the Stoops visit went as well?
We are told OU liked him. Not sure if an offer will come but he impressed
Awesome. Thanks K.
I hate the offseason.
That’s why I propose a 30-man-a-side, full contact sword fighting league for the spring/summer season.
Ups usage of vacant football stadiums, as well.
That’d really get the juices flowing!
Perfect front 7 would be three 300lb down linemen, 2 OLB’s 6’5 260lbs. 2 ILB 6’2 240lb (Jordan Evans type).
for the Steelers.
Seems very NFL no.s .
Yeah I am thinking all those Big 12 spread offenses are going to eat up those big LB’s by making them cover someone in space.
The covering is overrated for OLB, point of attack and length are the most important.. Every OLB can rush the passer. Shannon, Evans, Alexander, and just the little we seen from Bolton and Tay Evans are perfect ILB.
We have 300lb lineman now, just missing that pass rushing 300lb one maybe Walker or Orso.
ILB need to able to cover over the middle 240 is great as long as the still have good lateral movement.
Like Jordan Evans..
Chris Brown plays football???

heard he can run it.
and probably hard to get taped with that ankle monitor on too
Heard he can hit. Girls.
Looked pretty good running with Demarco.
Chris Brown and Dontavious Jackson gonna be a package deal?
Couldn’t say for certain but they’ve certainly been taking their trips together

Seems fair I suppose, SP will be the backbone of the offense no question. If he was playing behind last years OL then his odds definitely should be better, maybe even best in the 12. But with a whole new OL in place it obviously makes is harder to have better odds.
apparently Kansas didnt even make the cut at 8000/1
What about the other neo guys that visited earlier this year any word on when they might commit?
Maurice Chandler is the only other one with an offer and he said he’d take his time with the process unless something really jumped out to him.
Thanks
I want that guy…we need to keep the Lawton db pipe going
Let me know when he’s coming for an unofficial/official visit…I’ll hide in the bushes and “jump out” at him…problem solved.
Healthy Perine = Heisman
I’d only take issue w/ this prediction in two respects:
1) How much time does he split w/ Mixon, Ross, etc.
2) How does OU’s line hold up this year as compared to last
I can certainly agree with that
Call me a skeptic, but I don’t think we’re going to run it enough this year for that to happen.
Just looking at East Carolina’s stats, 2 out of the last 3 years they had a 1000 yard rusher with well over 200 carries. Thats about 16-17 touches a game over 12 games. The average per carry for those rushers were less than Samaje’s last year. So there’s a good chance he can at least get into the low 1000 yards this year. If he shares alot of time with Mixon that will drop off of course, but either way I think we’ll run decent amount.
Stop with the facts already.
Don’t be surprised to see Perine have 20-25 receptions this season. And given the spread-’em-out style of this offense, some of those are going to be catches in the open field where DBs will have to tackle him 1 on 1. I won’t be surprised at all to see him with 20+ rec for 250+ yards and a half dozen TD to go with his rushing stats.
Look for Riley to incorporate a lot of shovel passes into the mix- I think this will account for the majority of Perine’s and possibly Mixon’s receptions.
I agree on the shovel passes, but I think you will also see us use swing and wheel route passes to our backs. Think about teams being stretched sideline to sideline with Andrews and Shepherd in the slot, and Westbrook and Mead out near the sideline. A swing pass out of the backfield to Perine or Mixon has the potential to be deadly.
Shepherd is going to draw a lot of attention to his side. Andrews gives you great size to block a linebacker from the slot. I’m thinking that if the ball is on the left hash and the QB looks left like he’s going to throw a slant to Mead, or a curl to Shepherd, but then comes back to Perine swinging to the wide side of the field… if Andrews gets a seal on the backer/nickel/safety in front of him, you’ve got Perine catching the ball with a full head of steam and attacking DBs in the open field one on one.
Using your backs to catch passes in the flats when the defense is spread so wide can really open up lanes down the field for your receivers… as well as, do major damage with your backs when you have guys with the ball skills of Perine and Mixon, or even Ross with his wheels.
Yeah, Riley has to be licking his chops. Now, just execute…
I guess that would be ok, but I tend to hate to see a runner like P not have his eyes down field. Gives the first defender a chance however small to make the stop. I would like to see him eyes an shoulders down field. Just hope the QB doesn’t get him injured by throwing it late.
I will go the optimistic route and say that our High Powered Offense will score early/alot and our revamped defense will shut down everyone. This will in turn lead to a lot of running the ball to burn the clock and secure the win, which means that SP will get lots of yards in the 3rd and 4th quarters as we go undefeated in the regular season.
Now that’s the ticket.
I like your optimism
Perine isn’t winning the Heisman next year..
It will be a battle for just the Doak award with Ezekiel Elliott and Derrick Henry.

I hope coaches are doing a west coast swing as well, a couple OU targets did well last weekend at the Oakland Nike Camp.

Are we still feeling pretty solid with Kelly!?!?
As of today, yes. But if he truly does take it all the way out to NSD & takes all five officials….anything can happen. #analysis
Hope Kish can sell him on academics like he did McGinnis…kid sounds like he’s knows what’s going on
Ok, Austin is impressive. And he doesn’t seems to have alot of DL moves, just instincts and athleticism. At that size, if he can develop a good first and second move, he could be pretty special.
Monster-sized DE’s make me happy. Hard to throw over which helps our fun-sized LB’s. Also on that note, Arthur McGinnis as gotten huge, up to 245 lbs. He signed his LOI at 225.

Cool
I will always remember him leading the ‘block that kick’ cheers just prior to his knocking home the game winner against Ohio State.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbjD8QWlKtU
Though I am to young to have seen it live. You can never get tired of seeing that clip.
I was glued in front of the tube.
While the game was close I knew OU would win, felt it down to the bones.
One of those ‘do you remember where you were when’ moments. I was listening on the car radio with a maniac friend driving 90 mph wondering if I would live to hear the outcome. LoL
Thanks for posting that. BTW, did you see the post game interview? Asked him why led the block that kick cheer. He responded “I kick better under pressure.”
Did the new PAT rule bring him out? 🙂
Pereisman.
Thought Kellen Diesch was a OU lock???

Hello.
What happen? Did he commit elsewhere?
What are our chances with Trayveon Williams? I like him much better that Whaley.
I like Williams. I’m not blown away by Whaley but I think Whaley is better overall. Williams would be interesting in this offense though.
