– Chandler Garrett: While the 2016 Mustang QB prospect seemingly stayed under the radar for the better part of the last year, everyone knew his skill set even if he wasn’t necessarily getting the interest from schools most feel he deserved. However, that has changed in the last month as Missouri, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Air Force, West Virginia & Arkansas State have all been in contact with him.
The 6’4″ quarterback was in Norman last weekend for OU’s Jr. Day and told TFB the highlight of his trip was getting to put on Bob Stoops’ 2000 national championship ring. “Being up in Coach Stoops’ office, shaking his hand, and trying on his national championship ring was pretty cool. His case is just stacked with ring after ring, and watch after watch. Then you look up on his walls and see all the coach of the year plaques and trophies. It’s pretty insane.”
Garrett also connected with OU offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley and found him to be rather down to earth. “He’s only 31 so he relates to us better than most coaches. He just has that vibe about him, but he also isn’t real cocky. He’s just Coach Riley. Just a really cool guy.”
Garrett has plans to get back for the Red/White game and possible a couple of spring practices as well, assuming his schedule works for the latter. – (Brandon)
– Nick Starkel: Argyl, Texas is a hot bed for high school football, so it comes as no surprise they would be led by a talented 6’3′ 185-pound quarterback prospect. Starkel holds an Oklahoma State offer to go along with Old Dominion and Indiana State. And while that may not be all that impressive to you, the thing to keep in mind is that Starkel only played seven games last year before injuring his non-throwing shoulder which required season-ending surgery. Schools have been progressively picking up their interest and that, in part, led to Starkel making the trip up to Norman last weekend with his father.
During the visit, he had a chance to speak with Lincoln Riley as the two continue to get to know one another. “We talked quite bit. He (Riley) really seems like a nice guy.” Starkel said he enjoyed the Jr. Day experience, especially having a chance to meet with Bob Stoops. “He (Stoops) seems like a pretty relaxed guy. Seems like he knows what he’s doing, because he’s set the bar really high for the program and built on their tradition. I liked the experience. OU is a very prestigious school on the football side and really, really good academics to go along with that.” – (Brandon)
– Patrick McKaufman: If you haven’t heard of him, well then you’re missing out. He’s the guy in Oklahoma that almost no one is talking about….yet. That is, except for the OU coaching staff. I happened to stumble upon him being a Jr. Day visitor last weekend purely by accident.
While I was speaking with Starkel about his visit, McKaufman’s name came up because both are being tutored by one-time OU assistant, Joe Dickinson. Shortly after learning he was in Norman, I managed to find some of McKaufman’s film and came away thoroughly impressed. I was also fortunate enough to catch up with the Oklahoma City prospect to discuss his recent visit. “I loved it,” McKaufman said. “I felt like I got a chance to really connect to coach Simmons and coach Riley. They said they want to get to one of my spring practices and watch me throw live. They aren’t big on offering kids they haven’t seen throw in person.”
McKaufman has a previous relationship with Simmons because the new OU wide receivers coach had been recruiting him for Washington State. Another advantage the Sooners, should they choose to extend an offer, is McKaufman’s close friendship with another 2016 OU target in Calvin Bundage. “Me and Calvin are waiting on one of the home schools to offer so we can play together in college. Kansas, UTSA, LSU, TCU, Louisville and O-State have all started to show interest.”
In my opinion, McKaufman is a kid who is on the verge of blowing up as he continues to get more exposure to schools. He’s just much too talented to not be garnering a lot of attention. And even if it’s not as a QB, he’s a guy that could easily play WR at the next level. – (Brandon)
– Joe Dickinson: The former two-time OU staff member has developed quite a reputation as a developer of talent and works with a number of prospects, predominantly quarterbacks, throughout the country as a lead instructor at DeBartolo Sports Academy. In fact, he is quite familiar with all three of the quarterbacks above so we reached out to him to get a quick take on each. Here is what he had to say:
*Garrett – In my opinion, he was the best QB in Oklahoma last year on Friday night big games. He’s tough, fearless, a great leader & teammate.
*Starkel – Best pure passer of the group. But competition he plays is not as up to par as others. Big arm with great mechanics and motion.
*McKaufman – Patrick has ton of untapped talent. He has great height. Consistency is going to be the key with him.
– UPDATE (Sat., 3:22 pm): Per Rivals’ Adam Gorney, Sooners 2016 LB offer Krys Barnes has committed to UCLA.
– UPDATE (Sun., 8:39 am): Also yesterday, Sooners 2016 CB offer Chauncey Gardner committed to Florida (again).

A little ironic since wasn’t Dickinson the one that tried to run the triple option at OU under Blake?
Yes, and the Sports Animal post – game call in show’s when Joe D was taking calls were priceless. Fans were understandably upset to the point that I seem to remember ol’ Joe D tellling one to come down and say that to his face. It was out of control. Glad those days are gone and glad he has landed on his feet.
Thanks. Will have to look into Mr. McKaufman.
I would take McKaufman as the second QB in this class.
Would like to see McKaufman get his arm extended a little higher on his release…It would probably help with consistency and he would get a little more on his throw. Looks like he pushes just a little bit…a la Justice Hansen in high school.
I thought the same thing when watching him ,and I remember one other of our recruits having the same motion, and I was wondering if that is how they are being tought these days.
Give me garrett and terry wilson
Madre Harper commits to the pukes
Brandon, thanks once again for the great info.
You guys are pushers! Don’t you know I have a family? Seriously though, thanks for the take.
I thought we were family.
/chopped liver again
A good Open Post is like a trip down the cereal aisle at the grocery store. Different flavors of recruits packed in shiny new boxes. Just waiting for the coaching staff to pull one off the shelf and shake out the prize inside.
Mmm…
I really like Garrett and Starkel. I hope OU offers one of them and then continues to pursue a big name at QB.
Hey Jordan, maybe after spring ball, could you guys put the 2015 schedule up. I know where to find it, it would just be cool to stare some of the dates down.
Definitely
Only one game matters now: Spring game.
Just curious…are Dallas fans anxiously awaiting the arrival of Mcfadden?

This Dallas fan is not! But with our offensive line we can make a lot of backs look decent. I have to think the McFadden signing is a clear indication that RB will be high on our draft board, but with him we might be able to wait till the second round if a great pass rusher is available in the first. Maybe Gurley slides because of his injuries or a lot of folks in Dallas like the Tevin Coleman kid out of Indiana. It will be interesting to say the least!
Dallas definitely has the best line in the game and the draft does have some good backs this year.
They do not have the best line in the league, unless you’re just a Cowboys fan that ignores stats and facts.
I think they have the best overall (run and pass) Oline in the league.
Nope. Unless you go by skewed stats that could be twisted both ways (ie, missing yards after first contact, runs off tackle on blitz, etc.). Otherwise, see this:
http://www.advancedfootballanalytics.com/index.php/home/stats/offensive-players/team-offensive-lines
when scouts, GMs, and opposing Coaches say they have one of the best Olines. I tend to go with them.
Please, show me those coaches, “scouts” and GM’s that have said they were the best in the NFL. Other than talking heads, I have yet to hear anyone with half a brain say that they were the best. The legit stats prove otherwise.
Pete carroll for one. Tony dungy and herm Edwards are others. Since they have coached in the nfl i would think they know a lot about football…if you dont like dallas that’s cool but to say they are not one of the best olines with 3 pro bowlers. You not thinking right or just plain hating. Eagles have one of the best olines and hate the eagles
Oh, so a few talking heads and a coach says it and that’s better than the stats? ROFL What a joke.
I watch the Cowboys every game they play. I rooted for them for the past decade. But the fact is you cannot say “Oh, well they got 3 pro bowlers, so clearly they’re the best in the NFL”. That’s BS and you’re clearly delusional it you believe it.
But what an attempt in trying to say “if you don’t like dallas that’s cool”, when you’re clearly a Cowboys fan.
Well genius tell me the olines…
You were already linked to the facts. They’re not even in the top 10. In fact, even the lame, useless stats that ESPN shows has them at like #11 in the playoffs alone. When you go by “well this ESPN ‘analyst’ (whatever that means these days) said my favorite team was the bestest”, that doesn’t actually mean they’re telling you the truth. They talk. They are not scripted, so they just talk about whatever comes out of their mouths.
And thanks, you’re not the only person on this site to note my genius. So at least you got something right.
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamoff i can go to other sites that say different rankings. By the way, your idiot not a genius
You’re*, but good idea with the attempted insult. Worked as well as you thought it would. Irony is sooooo sweet.
Are you being ironic now? You’re an* idiot, genius. And that’s adorable that you tried so hard to fight for your argument. You’re like the 10 year old that says “But [x] has more home runs than [y], so he’s the most importantesttttt playyerrrrr”.
Child.
How you gonna hate the Eagles now? Bradford, Murray, Lane Johnson…
Hahaha, yeah. The city of brotherly love is BS. I guess i have cheer for those three guys to well but damn it hurts too
from an outsider this sounds like a very good take on it. an aging, very injury prone rb, who only finally stayed healthy cause he was a backup. interesting draft indeed. y’alls d could be real salty if lee could stay healthy, too. i really like that kid. middle of the pack in yds and pts but i think if he could stay healthy, it would be top 10 maybe top 8. some good ideas you threw out there. if gurley slid, you guys better eat him up
Lee is too injury prone. I don’t know if he has played 16 games in a season yet.
i agree. the talent is obvious. a whole season of it would be nice for you guys
They really miss his leadership on the field too.
yeah i can see it. the first thing that caught my eye about him was his hustle. chasing stuff down and never ending motor…love it. i like watching him and watt a lot
JJ Watt is a bad man. Give me the Lee’s and Watt’s of the world anyday of the week. Throw in Ray Lewis and Troy Polamulu.
yeah buddy. troy’s awesome. love me some ray lewis(favorite of all time) and ed reed too
now you are talking. Ronnie Lott was the best Safety I have ever seen. But Ed Reed is very very close. One of my favorite OU players is Kelly Gregg. Guy was all hustle all the time.
Best safety I ever saw was Marcus Allen during his high school days in San Diego. He once made 34 tackles in a game and was recruited by USC as a DB. he still jokes that he got to his first practice at USC and saw the top two DBs were Ronnie Lott and Jeff Fisher and decided he should be a running back.
oh wow, 34 tackles in a game.
I’m not sure he’s played 16 games total. In his career.
Dallas D is 1000X better with Lee on the field.
Not this one! Jerry taking care of ARKY guys is all this is???
Not this Cowboy fan
NO.
probably not……..what has McFadden accomplished in his time in Oakland ??
https://twitter.com/Rand_Getlin/status/576419794330644480
What are they doing in NOLA? You would think Still and Cooks would make a good young receiving core, but they are blowing this mother up!
i don’t see the logic in trading Stills…and I hate to see a Sooner have to go to the Dolphins. I hope he finds success there, though.
he’d still get to play with another of the best pass catching tight ends in the league, in cameron. and if wallace stays, that’s a pretty good tandem and you could do worse than tanneyhill. i think it could be a decent spot for him
Oh, I’m not saying the Dolphins are a terrible team…I just hate the Dolphins. Lol
Terrible or not, sure sounds like they’re going to be considerably better than the Saints at this rate.
That was funny.
Saints are a trashy team with trashy fans. I’d rather him be a Dolphin
It looks like OU will end up with a good QB commit regardless of who they get; a lot of good talent Riley is targeting.
Glad to see that assessment. Having watched his video and viewing his various images from the Jr. Day, there is something in Garrett’s eyes and posture that I really like. He looks like a warrior.
little blake bell in him
Ditto. I love the cut of that boy’s jib.
The Saints traded Kenny Stills to the Dolphins for a thid round pick and Dannell Ellerbe.
Sooners going here and there this off-season…we need an update of all rosters!
It makes you wonder what could of been with bell if he would of been a qb last year… non the less a sooner legend who will go down as one the most versatile players since the invention of the Swiss army knife
I think had plenty of talent to be a successful college QB, Josh Heup is just not very QB friendly as an OC. Which is fail.
Landry Jones returning for his senior year did not do Blake Bell any favors.

CURTIS! Bring AD to Oakland!
I wasn’t aware that McKaufman was a Jr. Day visitor last weekend. Dickinson talks about his great height. Does anyone know how tall he is? Also, is Simmons and Riley recruiting his as a WR or QB?
6’5″ 190…as a junior.
Great size. Still curious why Simmons is involved with him unless he like his athleticism as a WR.
Was recruiting him to Washington State so already has a relationship with him, and this must have been part of his recruiting area for WSU as well cause he was down here after Dahu Green as well!
I understand that he was recruiting him to WSU. What I’m unclear about is if he is looking at him as a WR or as a QB.
Have to wait and see if he is offered.
Uh-oh.

Who? I don’t cipher the tweets.
Pernell Jefferson
Looks like an enthusiastic post. We’ll see.
He’s a NOLA kid, LSU doesn’t miss on too many of those when they decide to offer
Yeah, it’s hard to wrench them aware from Louisiana. But les can’t sign them all down there.
This is true, but that typically applies to guys they don’t have room to offer.
Understood. Back to looking around. Looks like 2016 could be a good year for QBs and LBs though, so it’s too early to start worrying now.
Welp 😉

haha…oops

For now.
Never put your finger on the trigger unless you’re ready to fire! 🙂
And make sure it’s actually loaded.
They’ve been on fire on the recruiting trail this year.
Can’t take my mind off the fact it is Friday.

Comment:
Victimization is getting old.
Boren overreacted.
First Amendment Rights were violated.
It ‘s time we matured about race relations and recognize that we will always have bigots in our society.
The proper reaction is social isolation, public ridicule, and condemnation.
Not expulsion and closing the fraternity..
so you’re saying there should be no code of conduct anywhere or what exactly?
And no you shouldn’t just ignore an issue of any kind of discrimination.
This was a private bus.
Code of conduct is appropriate for the classroom and official university functions.
The two students violated the student code of conduct and brought international disgrace to the University. I’d say Boren had a right to do what he did.
A large group of others would disagree, but it doesn’t really matter because the students “resigned” instead of being “expelled”.
It does matter.
This may become a landmark case of Constitutional Rights vs. Political Correctness precipitated by Boren.
And the students would lose….big time.
We may see…
Boren should have diffused the issue rather than pouring gasoline on a fire!
Boren had no legal right to do what he did.
He is so politically correct that he forgot about First Amendment Rights.
so you’re saying the first amendment protects ignorant hate speech? when did the world become a place where you can say whatever the hell you want without repercussion?
With a few exceptions, hate speech is protected.!
so you’re saying that if i had a bunch of muslim teammates and came out and said i can’t stand any of em, among many racial slurs and whatnot, and was fired for it, i could then sue for infringement on first amendment rights? i’m sure there’s a loophole somewhere(such as for the burglar who broke into the old lady’s house and fell on a knife and sued and won), but that makes zero sense
If your employer is the federal government, state government, or an agent of them, then yes.
well what about this kid? he’s not employed by the state, he simply goes to one of its institutions of higher learning and douches around with other douchers
The University of Oklahoma is a public university and, thus, a state actor.
ah gotcha. if that’s how the law puts it then that’s how it puts it i reckon
Well, in that case, if you did that here, I’m sure you’d get the ban-hammer. So, I guess it not protected. Now, don’t go doing that because I’m only trying to make a point that hate speech is not protected, here, or under the law.
He’s thinking…He’s thinking…
Good one Boomer.
Yes, as long as it doesn’t incite a riot or violence. See Westboro Baptist Church. The whole purpose of the First Amendment is to protect unpopular speech.
so this kid was ok as long as the football team didn’t torch the sae house? cause that makes less than zero sense
Way too much to try and explain on this forum, but here’s some light reading for you.
http://www.ala.org/advocacy/intfreedom/censorshipfirstamendmentissues/courtcases http://www.firstamendmentschools.org/freedoms/speechcases.aspx
haha. light reading? 🙂
😉
thank you for the links tho. if i find 6 or 7 yrs i’ll give em a looksee
However, I saw several legal scholars discuss this issue on CNN and they all agreed that Boren was within his legal rights to do what he did based upon University policy.
Depends upon the setting as well. If you walk into your bosses office and tell him he is a stupid mother f-er, try whipping out the First Amendent to save your job. In our case, it wasn’t only what they said but they atmosphere that their speech had on the other students and the learning environment as a whole.
No doubt, there’s a host of factors that play into it and I will definitely admit I’m not a First Amendment scholar, but the First Amendment definitely controls over the student code of conduct.
Absolutely not, according to the discussion on CNN.
The Constitution is the highest law in the land. I cannot fathom a document created by students?, the university?, whoever else drafts the student code of conduct could ever preempt the Constitution unless the argument is that it’s not a First Amendment issue at all due to some student exception I’m unaware of.
cpearc00, while first amendment supersedes most, it is not absolute; there is case law supporting certain exceptions pursuant to the civil rights act of 1964; also case law supporting that first amendment rights can voluntarily be given up (e.g. student code of conduct) in exchange for voluntary membership in a community or institution; you don’t have the right to attend OU; you apply for, and get accepted, conditional upon agreeing to and abiding by a code of conduct; e.g. if you sang that song at work, you’re fired; you can litigate for wrongful termination, but you’re likely to lose;
And even more importantly, the only parties with a cause of action, would be the expelled students; no one can bring that action on their behalf; not ACLU, not the SAE chapter executive board, and since the students have reached the age of majority, not even the parents, only the students;
All the while, OU’s perception as a defender of minority and human rights grows, as long as they continue; OU is overall, more attractive to enlightened students and faculty today than last week; and the longer they fight the good fight, the stronger that reputation grows…
JMHO
Tell us, Waters, what would you have done to make sure all parties involved felt your support?
I would have done nothing and allowed others to voice there disgust.
If asked by the press, I would also voice my personal disgust.
No expulsion.
No closing the fraternity house,
I have a question for you: do you think it’s prudent for the TSA to do nothing in an airport?
what about the beatings that for sure will come? that could be one way the university might not get sued. seems like a decent defense. “we thought he’d get the tar beat out of him”
Since some people have expressed that Boren violated Constitutional rights, how about we add some amendments to include doing the right thing, aka “political correctness.” If so, doing the right thing might get more support. It’d be unconstitutional not to support “political correctness, right?
First of all, he didn’t pour fuel on a fire. The fire was already raging long before he expelled the students. Secondly, in a University setting, the Student Code of Conduct controls. It is President Boren’s job to see that a few student’s conduct does not interfere with the rest of the students right to education without fear and intimidation.
i believe he would represent the university of oklahoma chapter of sae. so everybody with internet, tv, etc know the university of oklahoma but don’t know this douchers’ name. so yeah i think throw the book at him just based on that fact alone
…….listening to some of the coverage since it began, there does seem to be some possible constitutional issues………a prominent ok lawyer has apparently been hired to represent some sae students, if I heard it correctly on the radio today
Outside of your own home there is no such thing as privacy. Even inside your home there is limited censorship. Somehow their video made it viral and painted a bad picture for the university therefore boren had the authority imo to do what he needed to do.
And proof that code of conduct does matter outside class and away from official functions, would be Shannon’s situation. His deal took place in an off campus apartment and had nothing to do with the university besides the fact that both he and the girl were students.
exactly. look at ol’ boy that owned the clippers. he was in a “private conversation” in his own home but was taped….and now he no longer owns the clips
Shannon = committed a violent crime
SAE = protected free speech, albeit very unpopular and disgusting
Shannon’s case didn’t go to trial. Isn’t he entitled to a fair trial?
Shannon wasn’t convicted of any crime. Just throwing that out there. I believe no charges will be brought up either.
A crime he wasn’t charged for though. And one that he claims didn’t happen and she retracted her statement. My point if they were able to make a ruling on punishment for Shannon and cite misconduct then it gives them credibility to the same for the SAE kids.
And yes free speech is protected to an extent. Their chant could be seen as speech that may incite panic or rioting. It’s like yelling “fire” in a theater. If someone does that and causes panic where injuries occur, then that person would be arrested.
I would agree with you but for the fact that the chant wasn’t directed at any party that would incite panic or riot, unlike the example of the fire. Those lines of cases are highly distinguishable from these actions.
This is really not something that should be discussed here. This is a football forum.
Waters, come play in the sandbox with me while I throw sand in your face, eyes, hand, mouth, nose, repeatedly. You can take it, can’t you?
This isn’t the Wizard of Oz but I sure do see a straw man.
If he only had a head to house a brain.
No straw man!
Just disgust with Boren’s immature emotional political response.
The constitution be dammed.
I fully expect a lawsuit against the university that will perpetuate the story rather than a quiet insignificant death.
I was referring to SamSooner’s response to your post…
I guess I need a lesson. Please clarify.
i think he’s simply saying that if you had changed it to “dig a hole in the sand so they can put their heads in” would be a little more precise
Gotcha. How’s it going today?
pretty good til the narrow minded showed up. you?…and that was a joke by the way
No worries. We’re always good. It’s funny how some people can call out Boren for taking swift action. I would not want to work for them. What must their work environment look like.
perfection, of course. you didn’t know king midas posted here?
I do now.
Can you please explain to me how he violated any of their constitutional rights? How do you feel he overreacted? He did not violate any first amendment rights! The first amendment allows you to say whatever you want without the government putting you in jail or killing you but it does not mean that you can say whatever you want without any consequence. Want proof? The same can be said when one announces in a movie theater or crowded there is a fire/bomb as a joke. While you may not understand, words can incite a riot or invoke an event that puts others in danger and that is against the law.
Freedom of speech does not include the right:
To incite actions that would harm others (e.g., “[S]hout[ing] ‘fire’ in a crowded theater.”).
Schenck v. United States, 249 U.S. 47 (1919).
Of students to make an obscene speech at a school-sponsored event.
Bethel School District #43 v. Fraser 478 U.S. 675 (1986)
JR, thanks!
This was in a private chartered bus to a social function.
Big Difference.
Nope: that bus is still in the USA. You can’t have sex in your car and that’s private. You get caught, you could get arrested.
Sam,
you are in the USA.
You have no Constitutional Rights?
I feel pretty safe. I can’t wait for those rights to kick in.
Probably makes it worse for them actually. This wasn’t a video of guys singing in a cab. The chartered bus ride was part of a formal event the frat was throwing. Since frats fall under the umbrella of student organizations, and have an official relationship with OU, the fact that this was going on at their event, means that it directly reflects upon the university and would strengthen OU’s argument that they have a legitimate and legal interest in disciplinary action. It’s the difference between doing something at a kegger, and doing something at prom.
Good citations, JR, but I hope you would agree that the actions of the SAE guys are very distinguishable from those cases.
yes thank you for posting these. this would be the kind of thing i would think, but cpearc is saying first amendment supersedes campus law. will be interested to see how it shakes out for these kids. maybe a good punishment would be to make them transfer to mississippi valley state or something and then become the minority and see how that goes
Yes.
Can you take the response?
“‘It’s time we matured about playing in the [sandbox] and recognize that we will always have [sand thrown in our face while playing] in [a sandbox.]'”
I agree!
Boren overreated.
and you are overreacting to Boren
Ke Sara Sara huh? I don’t think so… you don’t just sweep crap like this under the rug and hope society at large will take care of it.
Let’s shift this same incident to the workplace and see how well your proposed handling of the situation pans out; Are co-workers now tasked with policing themselves?
Let’s shift it to the Military… are armed persons now allowed to dole out justice as they see fit?
Society has laws, rules, regulations, policies and guidelines for very good reasons.
I would have been very disappointed had Boren not reacted at all and let whatever form(s) of self-appointed vigilantes carry out their “solution(s)”.
Another logical and well thought out response. I’m feeling better. You make some very good analysis.
I’m surprised that Gary Barnett didn’t get in more trouble than he did when he said “Not only is Katy a girl, she was terrible…”
I wouldn’t have taken issue with what Waters had to say had he scaled it down to, lets say, the family unit.
Our responsibilities here are to instill the right values and ideals in our children and grandchildren so that society isn’t left footing the bill.
That’s because you are a reasonable person who feels he has an obligation to others to behave well privately and publicly, to all citizens of the world.
The cat’s out of the bag, so we should take the lead on change, and not follow.
Please move on…Boren did what HE thought was best for the University and for his student athletes. Sorry you don’t like it but deal with it bc it’s already been said and done.
Unfortunately we can’t move on because this will become a highly publicized Court Case.
OU will be linked to racist behavior long after we have moved on.
Boren’s immaturity and emotional reaction will perpetuate a false image of OU.
What court case? If Boren doesn’t do anything then it looks like he doesn’t care about his student athletes. How do you think that effects OU in the future recruiting. think about it
If Boren doesn’t do anything, now, there’s your court case.
BOOM
“If Boren doesn’t do anything, ” exactly, riots, activist groups, etc. Rather see it hashed out in court than on the campus.
Boren was in a difficult position.
Had he not expelled the students or shut down the faternity
No Court Case.
No violation of student’s constitutional rights.
He handled a difficult situation poorly and OU’s image will suffer.
and how would you have handled it?
I have answered.
so do nothing
You would be more believable if not for the Boren agenda that’s coming across but still incredibly inaccurate.
No Agenda. Just disappointment and disrespect for Boren’s actions.
Doing nothing will leave someone feeling that they haven’t been supported. What would you say to black students if you did nothing? How would you respond?
I’ve read through your comments and still have no idea why you feel like you do. Certainly your choice but if some offended person did sue they’d have a zero % chance of winning plus looking even more stupid.
I will only add this to the conversation.
I understand everyone’s perspective on this. An action by a few idiots required a reaction by the University and the University is an agent of the government since it is a state university that receives federal/state funding.
Offensive speech is protected speech.
In the (paraphrased)words of William F. Buckley the most effective way to defeat offensive free speech isn’t with censorship, but with even more free speech.
From the ACLU:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/03/12/aclu-of-oklahoma-it-is-difficult-to-imagine-a-situation-in-which-a-court-would-side-with-the-university-of-oklahoma-on-this-matter/
Hatred and ignorance have demonstrated once again how resilient they are and we must resolve to continue to fight it while maintaining our dignity and honor.
So EasTex, if someone wanted to, for the sake of conversation, could they not ask a DA to file hate crime charges??
I’d rather not get into hypotheticals, not with this issue, but I will answer your question as no. Offensive speech, as vile as it can sometimes be, is free speech.
Correct-o-mundo
Yeah this is a very slippery slope. Not one I ever want to be on.
Like most things, answers begin at home- at a young age.
The impression I got about these parents doesn’t align with their kid’s behavior. Some kids just have a mean streak or somehow think they’re better. See it all the time. Humility isn’t far away though.
yes. sometimes it takes a rap on the beezer to learn ya
I’m really kind of pointing back to the origins of the chant, wherever it started and whoever started it… from there, if your kids are exposed to it, hopefully you’ve done your job right and they react appropriately.
As I mentioned to Sam earlier, the idiots that caused all this(and there is certainly more idiocy behind those caught on video) are missing something important in their character, self-respect.

Love Joe, Robert Palmer and the Staple Singers. Goooood music with a message.
how about the right of my fist touching their face. is that legal? If not I think it should.
hahaha…
Nossir, that would be a criminal act.
not if people look the other way
Okay, then.
As for me, I would never jeopardize my freedom or dignity for such poor examples of citizens for a moment of gratification.
hahaha, EasTex just giving you a hard time…I’m Hispanic and I was raised if somebody said things to me that were offensive in nature is to beat their ass and ask questions later. But times are different and people are sissies anymore. thin skinned
Was raised the same way and could get away with it when I was a kid.
Back then, courtesy was not only expected it was demanded.
Welcome to the post-modern era.
yep, it’s a damn shame too. And you had to respect your elders. no matter if they were wrong sometimes. You just went along with it. When did it change and why. It’s kind of sad
It is sad and I blame it on the 60’s and the many years of the tireless efforts by the Frankfurt School.
http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=8183
Hard for me to include the video we’ve all presumably seen as “Absent information…”
EasTex, while the expulsions fall into a grey area, it’s grey, not black and white; first there are the arguments that this falls under certain exceptions pursuant to the civil rights act of 1964; and there is growing case law that supports the notion that individuals can effectively give up first amendment protections, through contract or implied contract, in participating in voluntary activities; e.g. attending a university; attending a university is not a right; you apply for admission, are accepted, conditional upon signing a code of conduct (contract) and complying with said code; i.e. in exchange for being accepted into the university community, you have contractually signed away your right to free speech, and specified in the code; much like employers; this kind of speech would get you fired every day, in most organizations, and the terminated employee would not have any cause of action; It’s not black and white;
Which is why Boren made a carefully prepared explanation for expelling the two students.
I’ll refer you to a constitutional lawyer I have followed for many years, Eugene Volokh.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/volokh-conspiracy/wp/2015/03/10/no-a-public-university-may-not-expel-students-for-racist-speech/
What court case? Who do you suspect will sue? Not the two students as they probably lack standing since they both withdrew from school, not expelled.
so no court case if that is the situation.
I’m with Boomer here. I don’t see any litigation taking place.
And if there are legal challenges:
If by the two expelled students, OU’s position is strong enough to likely prevail in local courts, given the strong local perception of Boren’s actions; OU could certainly lose in the appellate system, after years of litigation;
And if by others, no strong cause of action exists; most cases would get thrown out, or result in nominal verdicts against OU, if any;
And at the end of the day, even if OU should lose, fighting the good fight, IMO, would do the exact opposite of what you portray, as OU will be perceived as a defender of all peoples rights, and a propagator of an enlightened community, which will be attractive to all but the bigoted populations; it will, IMO, attract the best and brightest to OUr university
Can’t and won’t are not the same. This country is linked to racist behavior. Is the action of the SAE student a false image of this country?
I’m pretty sure Risk Management looked at this very hard.
I just don’t see any litigation happening here.
Just some random thoughts here:
1) I’m not sure I see much in the way of causes of action on the part of the SAE chapter, in general here, excluding the two expelled students:
2) If, as represented in multiple reports, the University owns the house and grounds, then the SAE causes of action would be limited to terms and conditions of the lease agreement, i.e., were the residents given adequate notice, etc.
3) I don’t see a strong cause of action on any grounds of defamation; Boren’s comments regarding racism seemed to be clearly directed at those singing the song; only cause I see would be those in the video, re defamation, and not a strong cause;
4) As far as closing the chapter, OU and the national SAE both closed it; this probably weakens any cause directed at OU;
5) The only strong cause of action I see, would be relative to the expulsions, but neither the chapter, the ACLU, nor any other organization has a cause of action here, absent the participation of the two students expelled; and I haven’t heard of their participation, nor do I envision them desiring to prolong this in any way, in light of the parental statements, and those attributed to the students”
6) We’re not really even talking SAE here, but rather the local SAE chapter, which is now defunct and disassociated from the national organization; realistically, we’re talking about the local SAE alums, and based on some interviews on CNN and elsewhere, not even a preponderance of those perhaps;
So, in general, I guess I’m saying / asking what does SAE hope to gain here, and realistically how?
P.S., I also find it extremely interesting that the attorney chosen to direct whatever this initiative is, was the man who represented Timothy McVeigh; hows that going to play out in the court of public opinion, and before a jury, should it get that far?
Chant was taught… A place teaching those things at a Public University is okay? who are you to say what the proper reactions are?
I think you’re confused about what the first amendment protects when it comes to free speech. You’re allowed to voice any opinion you want (as long as you aren’t calling for violence) without going to jail. That’s it. It doesn’t mean that you can’t suffer any consequences for anything you say from anyone. Going to OU is a privilege, not a right, and the university has pretty broad latitude when comes to expulsion when it comes to bad behavior. So, if you and a bus full of your frat bros want to sing a little song that goes, “throw ’em in a river, hang ’em from a tree, but there will never be a n….r in SAE!”, then that’s your right. You won’t be arrested for it. It doesn’t mean that OU can’t expel your sorry racist ass, or that the frat where you learned that song can’t have their charter revoked.
That whole throwing and hanging claptrap is calling for violence…
So sorry if someone else has already thought of this. I read there was a rumor of an all black alt uni. The players are wearing all black to practice to make their statement. What if we did do that black uni to send a message on a national stage. The message would show everyone how the university of Oklahoma feels about racism. Thoughts…….
I am all for it, but am afraid of others feeling their First Amendment Rights would be violated since they may not agree with the message. They would then hire and attorney and the football team will disband. (dont mind my snarkyness)
Wait but that would violate their 1 st amendment rights while they were violating someone else’s 1st amendment rights, which in turn will violate……..I give up.
…
Lmao!! Who here has ever had a hangover and this is what you felt like???!!!
…
You know who’s missing from this dialogue the past few days? He-who-must-not-be-named. Meds?
Sam!! No no no!!! Shhhhhhhhhhhh
I’m sorry. In all the noise it was the noise I didn’t hear that got me thinking about him.
Nooooo my eyes just healed up from the last time I had to stab them!! 🙂
Looks like I owe you one. I tell you what’s been pleasing to me: there are a lot of decent people on this site. Take away the racism issue, most people are asking that everyone behave properly. Most people are saying this is not the something an intelligent person should have done. There’s not place for poor behavior.
EasTex, I gotta tell you bout this group I heard in San Antonio. You have to check them out. They play the Austin circuit alot. When I saw them, they had a female drummer who could stay with Ginger Baker.
http://roxyroca.com/
Interesting big band sound.
Sure hope she can stay with GB, he is going on 76. LOL!
Yup Buddy Rich, Neal Peart, pick one. They do some great big band funk/soul/rock/country. Really really good.
I see they will be in Dallas on 10 Apr. Not real fond of the part of town where they will be playing after dark, though.
Just pack the Glock. I will find these guys again from 300 miles away. They’re that good.
Uhh…don’t have anything to do with those things, prefer my Colt. It isn’t likely to blow up in my hand.
Not so much worried about personal safety as I am that my car will still be there/as I left it when I come out.
haha. scrip ran out
Coma?
nah. i wouldn’t wish that on him. i would want him awake and aware to feel any and all pain 🙂
hahahaha
Me likey.
Even though the all black unis were in the works long before this, it would now take on a deeper meaning/significance. Thought about that when I saw the team walking arm-in-arm all wearing black.
I understand what the team is doing, but the all-black outfits gave me the creeps. It made me think ISIS.
bahahaha, come on old man. think of Johnny Cash
He was but one man. LOL
As long as the team doesn’t carry any banners or weapons, I reckon.

And the award for best costumes in a comedy goes to…
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/dc/Academy_Award_trophy.jpg
Is that a new record for number of cowards in a single pic?
It’s a Guinness thing
why yes it. another example of radicals that don’t like people that are different.
And cling to their guns and korans.
not scared of those cowards. he who hides behind a mask is the one who runs away when his face is exposed
confucius?
no mighty grasshopper
Did the two guys up front get in trouble for forgetting their masks on picture day?
The lead duck is Abu Waheeb. He’s the Lebron James of their little crew, though rumors of his death have surfaced and resurfaced.
Because he forgot his mask lol.
Abu: Wait I dont have my mask on.
Photographer: Too late
Abu: Shoot!
Photographer: And I uploaded it to Instagram
Abu: WHAT?!
Photographer: …and I tagged you.
Abu: $&#^@*!($*!!!
hahaha
LOL! If only that were the case here. While most of these crazies wear masks to avoid detection and identification by foreign intel cells, Waheeb and other Islamo-celebs refuse in order to appear brazen before “crusading” kafir.
What you don’t see in this Glamour Shot moment is, one frame later they took a silly nonsense photo with frothy, sparkly bubbles rising from their muzzles.
Silly me, and all this time I thought they were at a “Job Fair.”
Gotta great deal buying bulk in black. Wish I had the Toyota franchise over there, too.
He shot a man in Reno………just to watch him die. 🙂
“‘Nam was a foot soldiers’ war. The man in the black pajamas, Dude. Worthy f’n adversary.”
That’s what is troubling me, historically the bad guys have always worn black outfits and the Sooners are not the bad guys.
I feel ya. Maybe it’s time for a little of that ‘outlaw edge’ to get into this team. As long as they don’t do drugs, beat women and children or sing racist songs.
If it builds team unity and the desire to fight for the guy next to them, I’m all for it.
I may not have much support on this, but I am more concerned for these young men as people, as citizens and not just for wins and losses. I do believe that being a “champion” first must be present in their hearts and minds before it can be exhibited on the field.
I got ya on that. Maybe it comes with ‘age’ but more important things than football out there. That’s one of the things I love about Stoops. He gets that. He’s trying to build character and his peers and a lot of the parents see that. Voted coach they would most like to have coach their own.
When these young men strap on the Crimson and Cream I’m their fan and wish them all the success they can possibly achieve…forever.
Or fire uzi’s in the dorm…
We could were them against Taco Tech and it could confuse their QB…
Ha…or Baylor.
Funny.
Whether or not it’s a good or bad idea probably depends a lot on how hot it gets the Saturday they decide to wear them.
Or if it’s a night game.
I think the black uni’s would look pretty cool. Especially with all the design ideas Nike has. It could be a special one time uni or something this season. Don’t want to give people the idea that OU is crimson cream AND black now.
Waters, let me give you a parallel of this issue of bad behavior and the 1st amendment. Go get on a plane and start a casual conversation about a bomb. You did nothing really wrong and didn’t threaten anyone but I can promise you that you’ll be in a holding cell in a heartbeat. Bad behavior is not protected by the 1st amendment.
Great analysis. I hope it works. But for what it’s worth, I gotcha.
Well I think this whole thing was a slam dunk by Boren. Punishment fit the crime. Moral of the story is if you can’t figure out how to behave like a decent human being, we have no use for you. Get TFO.
hear ya on that.
Agreed.
I don’t know why they would ever want to show up to Norman again, but if the kids were to actually push it, then they might have a 1st amendment case against the expulsion since OU is a public university. Saying awful things can’t be punished by the government. It’s different from your bomb scenario. That’s more like yelling “fire!” in a crowded theatre, in that public safety is at risk. It could be argued that, as terrible as the song was, the state can’t punish them for it. It’d still be a tough case though since the university has pretty wide latitude when it comes to enforcing the “code of conduct” policy that students agree to when they enroll. Singing about lynching probably falls under that; it’d be closer to your “bomb” scenario for that matter. Plus, when you take into account that this happened in the context of an official frat event, and frats are entities that are officially recognized by the university under the umbrella of student organizations (unlike a fantasy football league for instance), and thus directly reflect upon the university, then it’d be pretty tough to argue that the university doesn’t have a legitimate interest in disciplinary action. Like you said, freedom of speech isn’t the same as freedom from consequence. Ironically, if the students had just gathered in the student union to hold a rally for reinstating segregation, they’d probably have a lot stronger 1st amendment case.
Man, it sure is coming down outside…loven this rain
Ditto, we need this!!
We need every bit of it and more.

And then there’s this:
Former Vikings QB Christian Ponder expected to sign one-year deal with Raiders.

hahaha. wear it. better than jamarcus tho 🙂
I wanted them to pick up a player from the Vikings…THIS WAS THE WRONG VIKING.

FILM THAT OUT THE BACK OF YOUR HOUSE THERE, EASTX? ROTFLMAO. Immigrant song with gerbils or sumptin. Wow. Good job!
No, didn’t make it, it is an interweb classic. Viking Kittens!
Worth it.

Great face, legs…not so much.

^That skit is from his appearance on Arsenio Hall that got him banned for life on cable tv.

Good find, RB.
Just released today. I wish comments weren’t disabled, but I understand.
Oh comments aren’t disabled and they are bad, predictably
I went to utube for the video and it states comments disabled.
Also says that for me..
Maybe you have to log in to see/post???
Nope, I’m logged in. They disabled comments as they often do when it may be be a source of contention.
I viewed through Twitter on the OU page and college Gameday page but they may have disabled them afterwards because of the comments.
Aaah!
They probably should have done what they did at utube, disable comments from the gitgo.
Thanks for posting this. They ought to sell that black shirt coach is wearing, I want one. This incident ought to serve as a basis to go to an all black uniform as OU’s chief alternate look. This way it’ll serve two purposes: not only will it make for an exciting look for recruits and players, but it can also be marketed as an ongoing statement against racism at OU. This would be unique to OU.
I do not want to make a “statement” with the uniforms. I don’t mix politics with sports…major turn off even if it’s for a reason I support. Sports are my escape from the politics of daily life.
I abhor ignorant behavior and backwards attitudes like those demonstrated by the Sig Alphs. Keep a zero tolerance policy for racism, whether it’s displayed by whites, blacks, Asians, Native Americans, etc. Treat all offenders equally and as swiftly as possible take decisive action like the University has with this situation. But I neither need nor want any additional reminders of those racist turds when I look at the football team’s uniforms on the field. I just don’t feel that politics belong in sports. My own opinion…I know I don’t speak for everyone else here.
While I respect your view, sometimes escapism is really not that important when issues that go beyond “politics” are involved.
Sorry, it is a mistake. The entire world we live in is being politicized. It is a mistake. See NFL and the crap storm they have created.
GOOD POST! My son is a soldier. He has mentioned several times that during deployment, he and his fellow brothers looked so forward to being able to catch a game occasionally on Saturdays. He said they would all put the jobs aside, politics aside, moral issues aside and enjoy kicking back, digging out an old OU T-shirt or hat and spend a few hours just being a regular fan and watching a game.
I suspect this group will make a ‘statement’ this fall by losing more games than it wins…’Laying down” could become a byword for the team by December….
Problem is you have no rational basis for this statement. How about stopping with the emotional responses and give us something concrete. Bob Stoops at OU has never lost more than he’s won. Are you a Okie Lite fan?
I suspect they’ll win more than they lose and it wont even be close.
There are efforts underway to make the spring game a ‘black out’ game….encouraging all of the fans to wear black to support the team.
Sounds good. They need to focus on football and school afterwards as well.
Amen
This isnt related to anything from today’s open post but with OU going back to the 4 man front is DeBerry still gonna be in the Striker position or is he moving down to the DLine
IMO I think he will have his hand in the dirt. Because of his pass rush abilities and size. I think his coverage skills will be the lesser of his skills.
OU vs Texas in Helmet tournament poll.. Vote here! lol
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25105962/college-football-helmet-bracket-rockne-osborne—-round-of-32-vote
I went there, don’t quite understand what is going on with the poll, but voted for OU.
same here, lol.
Way, way, way, way early here but could the ship be sailing on Keyshawn Jr and the possibility of him being a Sooner? USC just offered him today.
You’re right, way early and you did suspect they’d offer, right?
I did suspect that, I only wondered if anybody else would have a shot at getting his commitment when they did. That I can say I honestly don’t know.
Shocked I tell you…..just shocked. 🙂
Seems like he doesn’t want jr to be set on usc. This road trip tells me he wants his son to have an open mind.
But I don’t like ou’s chances. Haven’t watched his film for that reason.
When I heard USC offered, the whole legacy aspect was what had me shutting off the optimist switch. But if his dad is taking him and his mates all around the country, you never know what could happen I guess. With Gundy at receiver recruiting, OU oughtta be just fine. This was just an interesting prospect that made me feel like posting a bit haha.
Since this open post anybody have a opinion on the lowa state game tonight we need to get back at this team for that last game two weeks ago hopefully they’ll be no bogus call like the Isaiah cousins call.
That last game against them was brutal. Man what a comeback they had. We need another OU game thread! I’m guessing its going to be tough goin at first, but we find a way to pull it out in second half..
If one doesn’t show, we could just use the one from last night.
They better not make me switch channels again, there isn’t anything else on worth watching and I’m having sketti with meat sauce.
I hear ya, and good night for sketti.
Thought about corned beef with cabbage and some corn bread, but sketti won me over.
We save the corned beef for St. Pat’s day.
Is that a thing?
Don’t do that event, not Irish and hate the color green unless it is on my plate or in my wallet. 🙂
Not sure about the history, I’m friends with a family that does it every year. It’s tradition to them and I like to eat so I don’t complain. 🙂
Get a free home cooked meal?
Who cares about the occasion.
Just made the same myself. Fresh sauce with vine ripened tomatoes, fresh basil, red pepper, and carrot. Parmesan and asiago. My wife has a green thumb. We’ve planted quite a bit this week.
Ooo000oooh, going for the Bolognese effect.
/nice
I love a spicy arrabiata but the wife only gets in on it if I add the carrot. She says she gets less heartburn. She’s from up north so her spice tolerance is no where near mine. So I compromise. Although, since we’ve been together I’ve gotten her into some pretty spicy foods, and she’s helped me appreciate the vegetable. There’s more than taters and beans, who knew?
Well, it’s true there is more than meat, taters and beans.
Still…

A snack straight from Heaven.
It’s the perfect food group rolled into one bite.
Only thing that’s missing maybe some cheese, peppers, and a rib steak.
Bacon wrapped dates are absolutley great. Now that’s the date like the sweet fruit not the kind you take to the prom..
Bacon wrapping the other kind of date sounds awesome, too.
/just sayin’
Well….it kinda does. Don’t tell sooner ray…..he might not survive just the thought of that!
Pulled pork sammich
Nice.
What you got to go with it?
Some cole slaw baked beans and of course Sooner Pride with a dirty Martini.
KU’s Oubre is an ornery hombre.
It appears Marcus Walker is a new grad assistant at OU.
Who dat?
Think pick six, should win against Boise. Then trick plays.

Okay, thanks guys.
The name rang a bell.
Was a corner back for OU back in like 07-11 I think it was.
Had to edit, had the years wrong.
It appears he never played a down in the NFL, wonder what he has been doing?
No idea, hadn’t heard his name in years.
If anyone’s watching OU/ISU come over to last nights BB thread I guess.
Hey everyone, I was gone the last week on a mission trip over spring break, and missed most of the going ons. I read the open posts, but I was wondering if someone could run things down in case I missed them? I didn’t have time for the comments.
One thing I did hear about was the Delance decommit over the incident. Is there any chance we get this guy back, or are we done with him? Thanks all.
Considering Delance committed to Bama within hours of his de-commit I would think anything is possible with a 17year old.
The short version of events is a few idiots exposed their idiocy for the whole world to see.
Did not know that, thanks. Has Brandon posted anything about being in touch with him?
He has. It is one of the open posts from a few days ago.
Guess I missed it. I’ll go back and check, thanks.
I didn’t think he committed. Just thought he pitched a tent after he got the offer.
Neither 247 Sports or rivals has him committed to Bama just that he recieved a offer on 3/13/15.
My bad, he got the offer hours after and has not committed.
https://twitter.com/JeanDelance74/status/575013298346700800/photo/1
Great start by ou lets hope we don’t have a have a repeat of the game in Ames Iowa.
Does anyone know definitively if OU will lose the practice days from this week that they didn’t practice, or will they be able to use those days after the originally scheduled date of the last practice?
34 days to get in 15 practices.
There is still time, but few days off.
Thank you, sir!
In case anyone is interested they are having The Opening in Dallas this Sunday.
Thanks…
http://247sports.com/Article/Unprecedented-talent-expected-at-The-Opening-Dallas-36157845
And Alex and I will be there
My sincere apologies. I totally f’d up. Had a game thread all ready to go then hit a happy hour and completely spaced it. Sorry.
We just picked it up on last nights thread…..no problem.
Cool, now I know where to go…
Been there, done that…
I’m still celebrating happy hour.
Hello all, have been following this site for a while now. Thought I would join and say thanks to the Brainiacs for an outstanding site, just incredible!
Welcome Greg.
Welcome to the big show. Best source of OU recruiting info.
Welcome! Sit back and enjoy the ride.
Name is Greg btw.
So without going through the whole thread, it seems to me the QB from Mustang is OU’s if they want him. I have to root for the hometown boys!!!
Not sure how the QB situation will work out but always pulling for the locals.
Me too. Our most recent Heisman winners were homegrown.
I really wish the Sooner coaching staff would recruit Ostin McPherson a running back from Mobile, Alabama. I coach him and I am biased but he has a motor that is uncoachable….
If you can post a link to some good film, some coaches here may see it.
Google him or check his hudl
He won us a 5A state Championship and was MVP
Dustin linked his film here now, just watched. Very impressive runner. Any idea what his interest would be in OU?
I am in his ear daily about OU, so if they showed interst, he is interested!
Any way he could make this?
http://www.oklahomafootballcamp.com/03_hs_camp.htm
The admins/contributors here are good at getting kids in the spotlight. Keep bringing him up here or use the contact tab at the top of the page. If you’re his coach, try networking until you find someone connected to the OU staff. Personally I would love for us to pull some good kids out of Bama.
Looks good to me. Kid has some serious quicks.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/383098/highlights/214455385/v2
You’re right on top of your game.
Ostin McPherson…stud
“I coach him and I am biased but he has a motor that is uncoachable….”
Then how did you coach him? (if he is uncoachable) LOL!! J/K
The kid looks really good.
He is on Hudl….
We also have another super star RB BJ Edmonds… His daddy played for the Seahawks. BJ is the Thunder to Ostins Lightning! I want them both to be Sooners!
Air raid 08: I know that some OU fans here are fearful of a Taco tech type air raid…but looking back, it is important to recall that even in 08 OU used multiple wideout sets and still ran the ball well. Against the Bearcats, the first set had 5 wideouts…then on second down, ran Murray from an I set…stop worrying, its really is annoying to OU fans that pay attention.
Gee Hunter — I haven’t gotten the impression that “many” fans are worried about the Air Raid. Quite the contrary, in fact. I think most of us are excited.
The only concern I’ve seen expressed is how LR is going to use Perine and the other awesome RBs we have. We’re fat at RB.
My first thought is that LR is too smart not to feature our RBs. Perine especially. And the other is that Bob won’t let him simply air out the ball. Rest easy. It’s going to be a thing of beauty.
Actually, there is a large part of the fan base that isn’t supporting the air raid and would be in favor or a more traditional offense that you see in many championship games. That said, there is a lot to be excited about here. I’m just ready to see them back on the field.
[Wakes up. Yawns. Scratches testicles. Flips on ESucksPN.].
Wait a minute? What am I doing?
[Turns off ESucksPN. Turns on laptop. Loads TFB Open Post.].
Better.
[Scratches testicles again. Looks over shoulder. Smells fingers.].
I can understand the need to scratch, but not smell the fingers afterward. But — to each his own. LOL.
It’s really big in Europe. They call it pube-pourri. High fashion.
Why scratch if not to smell ?
Why scratch?
LOL!
lmao…
Reminds me of this old video….
https://youtu.be/DzZqje04vLE
Shout out to Ryan Spangler. Keep your head up big guy, it’s all good.
Man that play sucked. I say DUNK the ball! Layups, psssh. Ouch is what that was, but yes, keep your head up Spangler, and next time, throw down the rock!!! lol
Inconistency has been the only consistency thru 32 games………..
No the the problem hasn’t been inconsistency it’s a lack of a bench.
I think I would have to argue you are both 100% correct.
My point is why after 4 years don’t we have a better bench lon now should have been able to build a team around this starting 5 we should have a better bench but we don’t.
Well, our bench wouldn’t be a problem if Hornbeak hadn’t transferred and McPeace hadn’t gotten injured in preseason and Buford hadn’t been declared ineligible. Kruger was able to replace Hornbeak with Walker, but I still think Hornbeak is the better player, and although McPeace and Buford are freshmen, both were regarded about as well as Lattin and could’ve provided nice minutes off the bench. Instead of being an 8-9 man rotation (9 if you included Bennett, who’s minutes have really tailed off), OU might’ve had a legitimate 10-11 man rotation.
Seems in slowmo, the ball was on the rim on Ryan’s last shot and was cleared from the cylinder by the ISU player. Should have been goal tending. https://twitter.com/bigez/status/576599227763052544
For Heaven’s Sake!
I missed that completely.
I was sort of grieving inside for Ryan when it happened live. To know that the game should have gone into OT, makes it me feel much better for Ryan. I hope he can see this vid some how. I know he was probably just devastated.
I’m sure he was.
I will say that from my perspective it appeared his legs were dead in the second half. Even his free throws were bouncing on the front of the rim.
I’m sure he was hammered. Up until that point he had only missed 1 shot from the field (3 of 4) 1 of 2 from the FT line. He didn’t score alot of points but battled all game long. He’s a load. I guess that’s why all of our opponents boards make fun of him, hate him up pretty bad.
Ryan had a heckuva game rebounding. I didn’t look up his stats but he was a warrior, I bet he had at least 12-15 rebounds. That’s where he left his legs, they were underneath the rim.
Hello
Hi. I still like that shirt in the pic.

Asi’ es la vida. Really liked his film but likely outcome on 98% of the Cali recruits…lastest stat from Deano. Just hoping to pull Kelly out of Cali.
UCLA, what a fine institution of higher learning.

Despite that, it really is a good school.
Always disconcerting to find instances where academic freedom is being stifled.
That was an interesting read Tex….thanks for posting.
Welcome.
Are both Alex and Brandon at the opening Dallas camp? If so any chance they have the numbers OU targets put up?
It would be nice to get some reports, there are something like 200 kids participating.
We will be at tomorrows regional were invites only and 400 kids, instead of 2k. As one of my reporter buddies said, “Today’s camp was more quantity than quality.” A post will be started and we will updated video and info in the comments section.
OUstanding!!!
Thanks yet again, Brandon.
Tomorrow looks to be a nicer day than today here in Dallas.
Paige Parker has another no-hitter going but it’s only the 3rd inning. OU up 9-0.
Is it on TV?
Whoops! Just saw. Game over. OU 11-0. Paige hurls another perfect game.
Correction. Paige pitched her 3rd perfect game of the year. Amazing. Kudos to her, the team, and Coach Gasso.
WOW!
That’s fantastic.
This ou women softball team is amazing they are without a I doubt the most talented team in the country the depth on this team is unmatched in college softball I also expect this team to win it all in for Laura Chamberlain to break the all-time NCAA record.
Agree. One weakness: any pitcher not named Paige Parker.
A thought occurred to me yesterday and I have been mulling it over. I finally have the time to fully express what it is I’ve been thinking concerning the proposal for OU to wear all black uniforms as a symbolic gesture.
First of all, I’ve stated this before now that I believe the all black outfits the football team is currently wearing and a proposed all black football uniform are not the best choice. I’m not quite certain why this particular color outfit is being worn. There could be many reasons, I will not speculate. I will say that historically groups that wear all black outfits have been enemies of this country, as enemy combatants or as terrorists. For that reason alone I am opposed to it, with the additional fact that black is not a part of the uniform colors at OU.
Also, the color black has traditionally been worn to symbolize being in mourning for the death of a person/s. I don’t believe mourning is the proper response to the existence of hatred and ignorance.
Next, I would also not be in favor of them wearing all white outfits/uniforms, either. White has traditionally symbolized innocence and purity, which perished long ago when it comes to hatred and ignorance.
What I propose is that if the team and fans believe a symbolic act needs to be expressed with outfits and uniforms, it should be all Crimson…helmet, jersey and pants. The colors white and black could be considered indicative of the racist expressions we would all like to end, but whether our skin is lily white or black as pitch or some where in between, the one thing we do have in common is when we bleed all of us bleed the same color and it appears as Crimson.
That is the basis for my outfit/uniform color preference, our skin is what covers us our blood runs through us and is typed which allows our blood to mix with any other human irrespective of the color of their skin.
Adding the nice graphic that appeared a few days ago “OUnited” as a jersey patch would be a nice touch, as well.
That’s quite a thought and bring up many good points I haven’t even thought of until now. I’m sure you know by now that I’m pretty player first and if players/recruits want something that contradicts some traditions I’d be in favor for it. Personally, I feel like an all-white uniform would look better than an all-black but I will say black is also considered to be fast, formidable, and can be quite intimidating. I guess it depends on the perception. Ultimately, if it is all-black, the presentation will go a long way on how it’s perceived, at least for me.
I like the ‘all crimson’ idea for a form of symbolic ‘protest’ instead of the all black. I am just not a fan of ‘neutral’ color ie: black or grey or white uniforms if that is not a part of your school colors. With Nebraska and the ‘Blackshirts’ tradition, an exception for that type of thing. OU Admin has chosen to go with the ‘popular’ rather than staying with traditional school colors by going with a black alternate. I did like the new white helmets and the crimson w/ white trim jersey combo. Just not ‘neutral’/non-school colors. The team apparently chose to go ‘all black’ in their silent protest. If they feel that best expresses their feelings…fine. Really like the ‘OUnited’ and think that should be a permanent helmet decal.
Just my idea if they are considering a symbolic uniform.
All I’ve heard about the all black uni is speculation, not that it was already being done. If the team feels the all black outfits express their feelings it’s fine with me.
It just feels too somber to me, it gives the idiots that instigated all this too much control if we can’t move this into a positive phase.
Wow. Very well said. I honestly hadn’t put that much thought into this (definitely not as much thought as you). I love it. I really can’t say it enough. Fantastic idea.
The idea was just a flash, it wasn’t something I had been fretting over.
We could use the “Bring the Wood” unis we already have in all Crimson.
Dang Tex that’s sharp! You didn’t fall off the turnip truck did you. Well thought out and eloquently expressed. Love the idea. It occurred to me that an all white outfit is the color of a historically racist group that likes to burn crosses. We want none of that. I Like an all white uni but not in a response to the idiots from SAE. Love the idea of all crimson as our response.
You just gave me another thought…turnip greens and cornbread. 🙂
Good post but I would love to see all white and all black.
Tex, very good read. Personally, I would say leave the politics out of it. If the players want to wear black uniforms I am good with it.
I’m on board with this. Isn’t all white w/ red helmets our road uni? All crimson with cream accents would be cool. Where in the heck did black with red accents come from? I’ve seen hats, jerseys etc. and I’m not a fan. Good post EasTex.
Technically, black is not a color, but the absence of color and light. Nerd alert aside, perhaps there’s a little too much being taken out of an alternate, third uniform with respect to colors and their meaning.
I’ve mentioned that I think the third uniform could be white with gold trim, perhaps some red. Or it could be a corn color with white or red. Yes, yellow. Just because it would look good and represent what the uniforms used to look like (i.e., leather and corn colors), not because of purity, royalty, wealth, or resistance to tarnishing across time. Perhaps OU should go with a color that isn’t crimson or cream/white/corn/whatever.
If we’re going to take meaning from colors, then why not from OU’s name? We’re technically cheaters.
If you really want to get technical, Black is the absence of color when talking about the color theory of light- if you want to talk color theory, you have to include pigment where black is the inclusion of all colors.
Not that this means diddly.
Thank you for the distinction. I didn’t make that or mention my frame of reference. Black is the absence of light and, therefore, color. If we want to extend this, then white isn’t exactly a color either. There is no wavelength for white or black.
From a color theory perspective, I guess, black has a hexadecimal code. Descriptively enough, it’s a string of zeros, no Red, Green, or Blue. White is max Red, Green, and Blue.
Actually, in light, white is all colors together 😉
i dont care if they wear pink, as long as they win.
Yellow? With all respect ……. Blyuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not sure I’d even watch that game.
This is a sound argument. However, the color of black has other meanings as well. The younger culture sees it as a cool color because it symbolizes authority and power. There is a reason why most of sports’ new teams have an element of black and why some traditional teams have added black (LA Kings, Hockey). The marketing appeal to kids and gangs. There is a reason the Chicago Bulls sell the most merchandise (Jordan’s long gone).
In addition, Priests were black as a sign of submission to God in service to Him. “Black is a color of power and strength, and to see all those players, with the captains linking their arms in front – it’s a powerful picture.” –Hayden Fry. Limousines are black, tuxedos are black.
If OU’s is going to an alternative uniform for marketing purposes it should be a black uniform. My thought is that it can symbolize this incident of racism and can be part of the statement that the university is not going to stand for this type of behavior.
I’m definitely not going to get into the symbolism of the uniforms colors. I doubt that’s really the point of them anyway. Alt uniforms are just something for the kids and fans to get excited about because they look cool. I could think of some that could, but I’m just not into the idea of “blackout” uniforms because they’d make us look like TT. They already wear red and black, so I don’t know why we would. Overall, alt unis don’t really do it for me at all for OU. If the kids really get into them, then I have no problem it, but I just don’t think that long-time powers, (like OU, UA, PSU, etc.) pull off the alt unis well. They come across as “fake cool”.
I agree, flashy unis seem to be a desperate attempt at gaining attention.
I only suggest this as my idea on the matter, if they are seeking to use a uniform in a symbolic gesture.
Kished
Better than being Jeffed.
We can’t take every player that we offer. By the end of the year we will have some awesome recruits committed to us like we do every year. So when you see guys commit elsewhere it’s not a big deal.
Hap-Hap-Happy Sunday to my fellow faniacs! To those attending worship, enjoy your church families.
Amen, erchou kurie iesou!
Yes, come…
Who is Sidney Murray? Why isn’t he committed? Lol

Doesn’t have an offer. Is an unranked lb I think. OU isn’t hurting as much as people think to get early commits. If he likes OU that much then he will be there at the end, assuming he doesn’t land any major offers.
So far he only has one offer, Appalachian St. It might be a battle to the end between them and us.
LOL!
He’s supposed to be at the opening in Dallas so if he’s worth an offer we will find out soon.

I have to admit that I kinda like the chutzpah of the kid to reach out to the staff like this. We always say that we’d rather have an under rated kid that bleeds crimson and cream, than a high rated prima dona that expects to be given everything. I hope he does well at the opening.
Anyone have something like these expectations? Need to go 13-0, 12-1, or 11-2 and get a top 15 or less recruiting class. Kish needs to close on some LBS, lost one mentioned above already. MS needs to keep Baylor and TCU under 30 points. Would this be good enough?
Or is it, no playoff=new coach?
10-2 regular season, and not be embarrassed in any games, would be good expectations. I think with new OC some slack will be given if D isn’t awful.
This to me is reasonable expectations. I think it’s very possible and even 11-1. But I think 9-3 is more likely than 11-1. And 9-3 wouldn’t be bad if one of those is to Tennessee by a small margin.
I honestly have a feeling OU is going to route Tennessee they are a talented team and got better as the season went on last year but I don’t see them being a legitimate threat to OU. The only thing that gives me pause is the fact that OU goes there. Also I’m expecting a 10-2 season but the only losses I see are TCU and Texas, with both being games OU can win but if they go 9-3 and it’s because of the Defense I am of the opinion that either Bob gets rid of Mike or they both need to go.
“not be embarrassed in any games” is the most critical for me. At least make it a game until well into the 4th Q and be within 6-10 pts. Still in therapy after watching the gutting by Clemson after the Baylor beating. Could see this team anywhere from 11-1 to 7-5 with most likely loss to Baylor. Baylor only needs to plug in another QB, something they have shown they are quite adept at doing. After that, any of or all of texass, UT, TCU and OKstate.
Now Stoops needs to make the playoffs or get fired? No way. 10-3 or 9-4 is more realistic next season considering our schedule. I can’t imagine if Vegas were to set odds today that we would be favored that we would be favored against Baylor, TCU, Texas, OSU, Tennessee and about a pick-em against KSU.
Totally disagree. While Baylor and TCU would be favored, I don’t think they other teams would be. As you know OU led TCU in 4th with a QB that was error prone. It is fair to expect a 10-2 season from this club. Baylor lost Petty remember?
I think it’s two parts. The first is that they need to get back to that 10 win mark again. Just as important though, is that they can’t be blown out. Getting spanked by Baylor at home, is just embarrassing. I don’t think it’d be fair to say playoffs or bust though.
Theo Howard committed to Oregon..
Are we recruiting Spring Westfield QB Dillon Sterling-Cole at all?

I’ve kinda tried to stay out of the discussion over the alternate uniforms idea, but I’ve decided to add my two cents…Hope I don’t get change back.
Any way I’m not a real fan of the all black uniforms idea I’ve seen in most posts talking about it. Honestly I’m not a big fan of alternate uniforms to begin with. I agree that it can have an impact on some recruits and let’s face it Oregon, Baylor and several others have really gone over board with alternate uniforms. To me this is “trendy” it’s what teams need to do to stay “hip”, but I see it as a little juvenile. We’re Oklahoma. We shouldn’t need to be “trendy” or “hip” we just need to be the best like we’ve always been. Hell we have only 12 losing seasons in our entire history as a team. How many other teams can boast that?
However like I said I’m going to throw in my two cents and see what people think of my ideas. Luckily I only have two, but they both have a similar style that I think symbolizes OU perfectly: History and Tradition. I know what some of you are thinking: we did that last year with the Wilkerson Era Alternates. I’m thinking of something a little different.
1. Military Tribute Uniforms.
I’ve seen a few schools do this but I honestly like the idea. We’re Oklahomans and we love our military. Why not have a uniform and day to show it. I’m thinking the urban camo I’ve seen of red (crimson), grey, white, and black for the pants and maybe the helmet decals with all black or white jerseys with the same camo on the numbers. Also instead of the players name have it say “Military”. Obviously the camo colors can be optional, but it would match our color scheme and give us a tribute to the troops that they can be proud of.
2. Indian Tribute Uniforms.
I saw a concept idea that I will post with this comment of the helmet for this. I really like this idea if we want another alternate uniform for OU. This would be a tribute to our history as Indian Territory. Like with our military, we Okies are proud of our native roots. I myself am a Cherokee and proud of it. This would be a great send up to out tradition and would really make us unique among a lot of colleges. I like the picture Idea for the helmet with a crimson and cream jersey design with maybe some native designs for numbers or on the jersey shoulders. I’d also suggest instead of player names have it read a tribes name from Oklahoma (Cherokee, Creek, Osage, Sac-Fox, etc.), I’m not just thinking of the 5 Civilized tribes either; maybe even have them written in the actual native language. As for the pants maybe match it to the jersey style. For some reason I’m thinking Denver Broncos style with a native motif.
Anyway those are my ideas. If anyone thinks they have merit then see if they can get it to the coaching staff. Lol.
Like the idea of an Indian Heritage tribute.
Loin cloths.
Togas!
It’s easily my favorite of the two, but I thought both are different from the trendy stuff I see damn near everywhere. This fits us better IMO.
I like the helmet…..alot.
Yeah I really enjoyed the helmet and it got me thinking of the idea.
To be honest, I hate this helmet. Not entirely sure why, but it just seems off to me. Like the ideas you mentioned though.
Sweet 16 lock
oooh or eww, depending on how full your glass is. tough matchup with providence and virginia, if we get that far. see what we’re made of
3 seed in the East region. Go Sooners!
So…can anyone explain to me how the #10 and #12 teams in the AP/Coaches polls end up as 5 and 7 seeds respectively? Why the hell do they even rank teams at this point? What a slight to the MVC. “Hey, we ranked you high, but your conference sucks so…” The MVC is the TCU of basketball…big rankings and gets PUNKED at seeding time. Wow.
when you’re in a bad conference its not difficult to rattle off a bunch of wins in a row, which means you will move up a really meaningless poll. if you’ve faired decent in ooc with an ok to slightly difficult ooc schedule, you’ll get an ok seed. if not, you’re murray st.
Wichita State and UNI are both top 15 in the RPI and in the BPI. There are no metrics available (that any in college hoops consider good measurables) to disprove them to be lower than 4 seeds. The only knocks on them are their conference and they aren’t sexy, household names.
that conference has been really good lately, but a little down this yr. i think when you have teams that are comparable and have a better showing in conf tourneys, that may push them down a little. i don’t know tho being as i’m not on the committee. no iowa is awesome and could possibly be a final four team. i don’t know much about wich st tho. just throwing out why teams make a run up the polls and don’t get as good a seed as their ranking would merit
These rankings weren’t by NCAA selection committee members, just writers and coach’s who only look at records.
“arizona’s playing a virtual home game, in portland.” you can tell gottleib went to little bro
BIG XII getting lots of respect from the tournament selection committee.
SMH…Texas and UCLA got in
Would have liked to have seen Tulsa get in..
Neither Texas nor UCLA deserved it
Any chance we could get some crimson and white smoke to run through when running on to the field instead of the inflatable wagon thing? Just a thought.
Also, there was some talk about Theo Howard at some point in the past, he committed to Oregon today.
I never thought before the first tip last year that we’d end up a 3 seed in the Dance. Would love to at least get to the sweet 16:-)
anyone heard when the game time will be announced…….

Hello
I wouldn’t mind these alternate, third uniforms. Green is complementary to red.
Riot!!!!!
Those are very, very different.
That’s the point. An alternate, third uniform should be different colors, IMO.
It almost has to be, there is only so much you can do with crimson or cream. I’m still in favor of a uniform completely crimson or white.
We had those ALL white Nike uniforms a few years back that we wore once. I dont remember which game tho
http://uniformcritics.com/football/college/oklahoma-sooners/2009-sooner-magic-nike-pro-combat/ is what i was thinking of. I guess not ALL white but its still pretty cool
Texass tech at their house. That may have been the game Bradford got knocked out or the next game there a few years later. It was a loss.
concur TT, a game to be forgotten
“It’s a Sooner Christmas, Charlie Brown!”
Crimson and Holly never hurt nobody.
Doesn’t quite rhyme, but give me a break it’s Sunday or something.
But the question remains: what complements burnt orange? I say, you know the poop you have after eating a box of Lucky Charms? That’s my guess.
Green is the “opposite” of red. Thus, winning is the opposite of burnt orange.
orange and black… imo…
I see what you did there. 🙂
Honestly, I gotta disagree. These look horrible.
I’d rather you lie to me.
Where did you see these? If they do ANY kind of color change its going to piss ALOT of people off and these really dont look good at all. Now if we were talking about the New OU football team out in Phily i would be all for it 😛
The pants are cool, for real. But the rest just makes no sense. Now maybe if top was Crimson and dropped all hints of green. I mean, green, really?
would be nice on christmas day.
Those are fugly!
uh…please no
Where did OUnited get seeded in the tourney?
3 seed in the East
Not…bad! Thx!
